and to think what is ahead - Pigs Quest, Rogue64, Muddy Racers, Sonic (even its with REU), Wild Wood, Polar Bears in Space, Eye of the Beholder, Puzzle Bobble, and more than I cannot share at the moment
congrats to all game devs who made the 2021 awards list. well done once again on top quality content all year and another top quality awards show mr louie :)
Thanks Mark, I am having lots of fun presenting this information together for those who simply don't have time or want to be constantly surveying the scene.
Thank you for inviting me to vote. I've made longplay- or gameplay videos from a lot of these new games and I'm looking forward to what's coming in 2022.
Thanks so much, there are a few watershed moments in the RGN journey and you trusting me enough with Hawksmill and beyond happened to save the channel and put a couple of rocket boosters to it. Have a great xmas and new year.
Hi Louie! 😊 A big thank you for this Commodore 64 news video! And thank you for showing me your interest so that I participate in the vote for the game of the year 2021! I really like your work! I wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year 2022 with lots of cool stuff for our favorite computer!
Thank you for your kind comments Olivier and for participating in the vote - so many games to play in the next 12 months and I have not even started with Sonic yet. Have a great new year!
Yes, Sarah makes good games but unfortunately not all of her followers have played her C64 games. One of the main reasons I stopped doing public voting for this award is that while I can easily identify spam voting by individuals, it is harder to identify when friends and family members of coders vote even though they don't play C64 games.
@@RetroGamerNation This is true probably for countless other polls. Some people don't buy games, just see reviews on UA-cam and vote or just vote because they trust a software house or IP.
Yes, I think Sarah's two titles would finish on top most legitimate Award polls. Both games got selected 14 times but more people chose Soul Force as their favourite.
Brilliant episode. Just goes to show that the C64 is going from strength to strength! On e thing not mentioned is that THEC64 owners can also run Sonic as the has REU in built. Maybe the future is in expanded games? See what happens in 2022!
Seen the Sonic game the other day and even though it needs a bit of assistance to run on a standard system I am blown away by it. I remember a joke news piece in one of the final issues of Commodore Force, what Zzap64 was renamed as, that a Sonic game was coming to the system. They did admit at the end it wasn't true and was just done to fill space as there was no real news... jokes on them now.
Nice to see Tiny Quest at 10. Wasn't a fan of the password system but loved the speed and precision of the gameplay. I really liked it and it was definitely top 3 for me (probably at number 3 behind RGN's 1 and 2).
@@RetroGamerNation Do you mean that TOP 10 reflects or should reflect games' commercial success? Perhaps the opinions are created this way and this is something to be cautious about. Commercialisation factor doesn't prove how good the game is. This is a wrong measure, as saying that some games are AAA so they have to be good and are definitely better than others. Similarly, when country's GDP is high, it doesn't mean that the country is doing well. When house windows are broken due to unrests or wars, GDP might go higher due to the demand of fixing things, but it doesn't say nothing more than that. But let's put these examples aside. For such comparisons what game is the best, I was never fan of it, as it's like comparing apples and pears. Thus I am not surprised at all.
@@BagoZonde No this year's top 10 is definitely just a reflection of quality and this is how it should be. The comment about commercial success takes into consideration both the quality of the game and it's accessibility (example, is it free or affordable). I thought Tiny Quest had all the factors to make it a commercial success (look, gameplay, affordability) but it just never clicked with the broader community.
@@tziirkq if I manage sd2eic at good price, definitely would be happy and test those game this way. Do you think they can be recorded on tape and play from them?
@@gregszalas4225 Tape games need specific loaders, I think. They can be saved to disk very easily as a .PRG. I would personally say that an SD solution for the C64 is the best gift someone can get for themselves. There's too many fun games to play that are download only. I got my SD2IEC at "the future was 8 bit." But look around for different types, like Kung Fu Flash, BackBit, and more, they all have pros and cons.
Greg, links to the games are in the video description if you want to check them out and see in what formats they come. Also if you are looking at a modern day storage solution the Ultimate II+ is best (but expensive and out of stock at the moment) while I would suggest you look at Kung Fu Flash for a more affordable and compatible solution (SD2IEC can be incompatible with fastloaders for example).
Thanks for taking the time to let us know that you enjoyed Arcade Daze. Unfortunately, only 2 of the 21 people on the panel voted for it. I was one of the testers for Arcade Daze, so I know the game well and in my personal view the panel got it right. Not quite Top 10 material. If you are interested in being on the voting panel for 2022, please feel free to contact me via email, facebook or twitter and I will record your details and maybe have a little chat about our love for C64 games if you are up to it.
Wow, considering the quality of the games that didn't even make the top 10, the C64 game development scene is really hot.
The 64 has never seen this kind of quality before - impressive!
and to think what is ahead - Pigs Quest, Rogue64, Muddy Racers, Sonic (even its with REU), Wild Wood, Polar Bears in Space, Eye of the Beholder, Puzzle Bobble, and more than I cannot share at the moment
Honoured that Galaga took 7th place with so many games coming out every year. Also congratulations to Sonic for winning the 2022 award :D
I sense the novelty of Sonic might wear off by then and be usurped by a little Pig on a Quest.
Thankyou for your hard work bringing a whole year of roundups. Its an amazing time to be into retro computers.
Thanks for your feedback. I am really enjoying playing new games on retro computers, it has become a full time hobby for me now.
Another cool episode , so much too look forward too next year . Thx for inviting me for the vote 👍👍👍
Thanks Brendan, I was so pleased you accepted the invitation to vote. Next step - some sort of collaboration for 2022!
@@RetroGamerNation Now that is something I'd love to see 👍
@@RetroGamerNation yeah I got a few ideas but I'll think of a few more so we can discuss them in the new year 😀👍
Thanks for another great year of roundups. RGN is an essential part of the blossoming C64 scene!
Thanks Sam, that is really nice of you to say that. Have a great Xmas and New Year.
If Eye Of The Beholder comes in 2022, it will be a Mega Rocker for the Commodore 64!!!
Awesome video, really enjoyed that. Still amazing that we are still getting high quality c64 games.
Thanks for your kind feedback, next video is only a couple of hours away!
Thanks for all of the C64 Round Ups this year, mate. Have a fun, safe, relaxing Christmas and New Year break.
Thank you for including some of the releases from our Transmission64 2021 Fall Edition event in your video.
congrats to all game devs who made the 2021 awards list. well done once again on top quality content all year and another top quality awards show mr louie :)
Thank you Mr George, make sure you create some time over Xmas to unwind and playing more C64 games!
Great roundup again. Thank you as always for your service to the trusty C64!

9:34 WOW!! This is amazing!
Another great graphics from Facet :)
I would like to see it as a start screen on my C64, but sadly it's impossible.
Thankyou for a great video and thankyou for all of the content this year. I still can't wait for polar bears in space. Merry Christmas 🎅
Thank you for inviting me to vote. I've made longplay- or gameplay videos from a lot of these new games and I'm looking forward to what's coming in 2022.
Hey thank you for participating. VIPER is the place to go for C64 long play videos!
What a commodore 64 year - amazing!
and so much to look forward to in 2022.
Maybe this will come across as hyperbolic but I truly believe Sarah Jane Avory is a genius
It wasn’t noted in my video but this makes it 3 in a row for Sarah.
You’ve put out a ton of great content this year, massive congrats dude ;)

Best game won. Congrats Sarah 👍
Sarah is just amazing.
That is 3 in a row for Sarah and her RGN C64 Award wins. At least time, no one can claim that she only won because of her followers.

I'd add...
Why does she have followers?
Maybe because...

If you want Sonic, check out Mayhem in Monsterland (1993). That is where SEGA got the idea for SONIC.
@@WDeeGee1 lol already played it at the time but yes that's how time works a game released after Sonic was the inspiration 😉

Tiny Quest was definitely a Top 5 for me - I am not sure why the game was not more commercially successful though. It's a shame.

Sonic on C64 🐸
Just some REU to run Sonic on C64 - WOW!
Yes pretty amazing. I don't really want REUs to become a new standard for future C64 games but every now and then is ok with me.
Great video.
Thank you Dennis, I hope I can keep the standard up for 2022.
SONIC!?!?!?

How can you get those new releases? What media they’re come on - tapes, disks or cartridges?
It depends on the game. Some are also downloadable for putting on an SD2IEC, or similar device.
