These videos are the highlight of my week
I am a born and raised Canadian but nothing beats U.S.A Gibson! Love my Gibson SG!! Thank you Gibson
Bro just go to Japan, pick up a 500 bucks MIJ guitar and it will be better.
Gibson is the only guitar maker that I know of, that's doing this. That's impressive.
Collings Guitars pleks every guitar too.
Oh, and any guitar you buy from Sweetwater, they offer plek service for it if you’d like it. It’s not only a Gibson thing.
I am the very happy owner of a 2021 ES-339, a 2022 Flying V and a 2022 SG Standard 61. The first thing I noticed when I picked up each of them was how amazing the necks were. Thank you, Ahmad for a job well done.
I think the key for success is the crew you have and how you treat them. Pay them well, but also reward them for higher performance in output and quality, so there is something in it for them too. My industry where I was a production manager and also a QA for years was totally different, but I think the same principles apply. It was producing up to 50 tons per day at sea of frozen fillet for restaurants and fillet block for fish finger factories (very high standards for hygiene and ISO specs etc). We greatly increased bonus rates and made working conditions much better for our crew of up to 60 (spent much more on food for the trips at sea and got sat TV for them). Crunching the numbers on this plan suggested the company would make a huge loss, but no. The opposite happened. Quality improved and output tripled (15 tons per day was our max, but we got to 50 per day after the changes). We began retaining staff and attracting the best from other companies. Crew knew they had it better than anywhere else, so gave it their all for the company and cared more about the product. It did backfire eventually though, because big competitors bought us out to put us out of business.
I bought a new Gibson Les Paul last year, the quality was superior from the finish, binding, and fingerboard. The control cavity was even extremely clean. Thank you fellas!
Made in USA is a great thing on many levels. Love this and Love Gibson.
Would love to see more about the acoustic process!! Season two?
Hell yeah
Plek machines are made in Germany.
@@hsoloman Yeah and the wood comes from Fiji your point?
Gibson for Life
These series are AWESOME. Please keep them coming. Honestly, I’m curious to try these new 2020 models. I currently have a 2007 LP Standard, so I’m curious 🙂
I enjoy the videos Gibson has been putting out to show how much work they put into their guitars I play Gibson and I will always play Gibson
I love these videos don’t stop making them Gibson ! Also love the rig rundowns you do so fun to watch it lets us all dream
Nice video but the quality still has a lot to be desired. I have own many Gibson over the years and the 2019 quality is still a shot in the dark. I had to play nearly 10 2019 LP to find one that played well and did not have crooked installed tuners, improper cut nut and a couple of high frets. So much for your plek process. You can make as many nice pro videos as you want but that does not change the inconsistency in your manufacturing process. Maybe one day you’ll get it right.
Conversely, while checking out those 2019 LP, I also picked up 3 Music Mans and several PRS and in every guitar felt and played the same. Very consistent, stayed in tune, the nut cut correctly they all played the same. Not as iconic, but they make one hell of and instrument.
Really enjoying this series.
Another great video!!! Love you guys!!! 🤘🏻❤️
Excellent content, looking forward to the next "The Process"
I absolutely love all my Les Paul Customs. Greatest guitars ever made!
Very cool!
2019 Classic and 2019 Traditional, both perfect! Keep up the awesome job guys! I love this meeting the employee thing. I also own a few USA Fenders as well that are very nice. USA! USA! USA!
Fun stuff, thanks for charing 👌
More of this content please
Full time job for this crew🎸
I have a Plek'd Gibson. While the frets are nice and level, the fretboard has some machined surfaces that look absolutely horrible. And two nut slots are cut a c-hair too deep, causing buzzing on open notes/chords.
But I have to admit, I still love my Gibson.
Anthony Nonya - For all the talk of Plek machines and their greatness, if the fingerboard isn’t right the only thing it can do is take away metal to try and make it right. It isn’t right...it’s still messed up because the preparation wasn’t done at a high level before the frets went in. I’ve seen and fixed many. Kudos for your comment.
I had to change the nut on my brand-new LP Standard 50's it was so bad. The wound strings were buried in the nut way too deep. And the frets themselves look like they are straight off the Plek machine. They were NOT finish-sanded and polished. You can still see the machine marks on them from the Pleks cutting head. Gibson should shit-can the bean-counting mentality and get some QC in there.
Dave Skowron - I couldn’t agree more. Gibson has a history of poor quality control and until they eat some humble pie and address it honestly with themselves it won’t change.
That's one of the reasons why my Gibson g45 studio acoustic guitar plays so well
I love my Gibson! My 2019 LP Tribute has some burn through on the corner of the cut out from the buffing wheel im guessing, and the fret board has a few chunks at the 2 of the inlays. But ill know its mine! Plays like a dream, set up was perfect! My 2018 LP classic was perfect as well. No defects on that one.
Great job !!! From an happy owner of a 2016 les Paul standard T Goldtop / superb !
Gibson should make a T-Shirt that sez " I love the smell of Nitro in the Morning, Smells like... Gibson".
@Philip Schlaepfer I like to use the word sez instead of says. Most likely I got it from all the comic books I would read when I was a kid. "Nuff Said ua-cam.com/video/gCqDOBaLfGA/v-deo.html
@@jesseclaborn749 DESTROY!
Jesse Claborn for the record it was an excavator not a bull dozer
That’s great👍😀
Are the guitars put back on the plek to be measured under string tension or are you just using the plek to cut down on fret levelling time ? Once that neck is under tension the plek scan is going to change. We have the plek not to just look at fret height but the radius of the fret board and neck relief and this can all be done while the instrument is strung. I believe this is the purpose of the plek , it’s about producing quality not quantity.
1:34 they go in with a pre-tensioning jig attached to simulate string tension.
The last les paul traditional I had I bought unseen on ebay, when i got it i found the bridge and tailpiece had been mounted off centre by 1millimetre in the direction of the control knobs, doesn't sound much but the string alignment from the nut down the neck to the bridge was so bad that the high e string would come off the edge of the frets when playing up around the 15th fret,i had to buy plain bridge saddles and cut the slots myself to bring the strings back into alignment with the neck,i'd never buy a Gibson unseen again, always loved les pauls but how the fuck can a guitar like that go right through their build process and pass qc checks and leave their factory?
Incredible guitars, one day I want to own one
You will get there and when you do you will love that guitar forever!
Island Gore thanks!
Very nice, you could send me one to try out to see for myself, it doesn't matter which one, but a Blue semi hollow LP with a stock two piece tail piece would be a good random sample.
So you do the frets before you paint, and the machine rounds the ends as well I guess. The Nut slots being cut by it was a interesting fact.
GIBSON #1 AT THE VERY LEAST, ONE OF THE BEST NAMES IN GUITAR'S!🤔 Gibson U.S.A.
Don't take my word for it. Call them.
Oh happy day,,, Thanks Gibson
Really nice
Wow! all cie of guitars must have this machine. I understand now ,why my new gibson lespaul classic have a perfect fingerboard. No buzz, no deads spot nothing.
Love my 60's Les Paul Standard I purchased earlier this year.!
2018 les paul traditional are factory pleked?
From which year every guitar had this process applied??
ThanX
Love My 1970 Gibson Les Paul Deluxe gold top an my 1970 Silver Sparkle deluxe
Eric Pearson sparkle deluxe? sweet!
Does anyone know what models and years they started using the Plek'ing machine on their guitars?
Interested to know which models would already have had it done.
Are 2019 LP standard 50 & 60's also plek'd?
Do they also use the Plek machine on the mandolins?
Plek or no Plek: Know thy guitar. Neck relief, nut action, string height, pickup height….all relative to string gauge and atmospheric (Temp/RH) conditions. Bob’s your uncle.
Crazy Mandolin
Did they use the PLEK on a 2019 Gibson SG JR?
Love my 2016 Studio. Was debating getting it pleked, but after seeing this video now I won’t. Thanks!
The music in the back REALLY sounds like it was recorded with a Strat, haha.
Sam Libman lol it sounds like Pawn Stars
I don't buy the Plek thing... I purchased a 60s standard les paul in may of 2021, which had been built in December of 2020. By October of 2021 it needed fret leveled. Wasn't bad, but definitely a need. I also replaced the terrible nut because it was a nightmare to tune, and put on a new bridge. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely LOVE this guitar! I play it daily, and will keep it forever, and will probably buy a LP Modern at some point. But... at the price point I expected a bit more fit and finish.
just recieved my sg standard herritage cherry, of course ill like and sub :))))
How did the previous regime not understand that if you build QUALITY INSTRUMENTS people will buy them?
The figured since it says Gibson on the headstock it would sales despite being low grade crap?
Gibson is number one please send me a Gibson Les Paul
Oooooohhhh yyyyeeeeeaaaahhhh!!!
If Phil X is willing to say their quality control has improved massively, that is saying something.
Sold... I'll take three!
Man you can see that neck angle at the start...when I look at mine it’s seem like that.
I really want an es335 but based on previous experience with the Gibson brand, I'm scared and can't bring myself to do it. Maybe, via dealers, Gibson could offer customers a 3 month return/refund period and a free dealer individual setup. That would certainly give me more confidence.
😂😂
Remember hand made guitars doesn't mean 100% hand made. It's nice to see the prices went down when this was implemented
The highest quality in the history of Gibson? The Les Paul Tribute the the Guitar Center salesman handed me says different. I won't go any farther than saying sharp fret ends. I honestly couldn't hand it back to him fast enough. I went in looking to maybe buy a new Les Paul. I didn't. Last Friday I bought a PRS 509. I'm much more satisfied.
Entry level USA made Les Paul price: $1199.99
Entry level USA made Stratocaster price:
$1149.99
Everyone can stop with the “over priced” now. All US made guitars cost more than overseas guitars period regardless of brand.
I love my Les Paul.
Not to mention they once made the LPJ which was made in the US and around the same price point as a mexican Fender
Not to mention how much time it takes to even make one les paul
but your entry level Les Paul won't have neither binding, nor Flame Maple. your American Performer Fender will look and feel exactly like an upper range one.
What I wish Gibson would do is revive the Orville brand. Could you imagine ?
A Chapman ML2 Pro comes with a neck-through design,Hipshot Locking tuners, stainless steel frets, glow in the dark side dots and a case for like a thousand bucks, plus WMI Korea's craftsmanship is up there. Now just imagine getting a proper Gibson out of that factory, with the real headstock design, a beautifully figured top, regular Grovers, regular Gibson pups, maybe even stainless steel frets for let's say 1200-1300 bucks like Prestige does.
They'd sell like hot cakes. you'd have both the authenticity of a real Gibson and the swagger of the early 80's overseas copies (even the newer ones, like Edwards Or Tokai does),with a consistently built,professional-grade instrument. they'd crush the market with a power move like that.
Ilian Petit - Ok, it could be argued that a performer won’t feel like a professional or ultra Strat. Many would argue that. Gibson just isn’t going to dilute their brand the way Fender does. And no guitar coming out of Korea has flame maple that isn’t just a veneer. Not that they don’t look good, they do but an actual carved flame maple top that is always going to cost. My only complaint is stainless steel frets. I wish everyone went that direction but even PRS still holds out. From what I understand stainless steel wears on tooling faster but still, I will concede the frets. Locking tuners? Meh. Not that big of a deal. Side dots? They’re not really universally used yet. And I can complain about every case shipped out by makers. And do. Third party case manufacturers embarrass everyone.
@@mattburch9873 1. yes,it could be argued, but the necks are literally made in the same place.
2. Lots of guitars coming out of Korea have a real carved maple top. Chapman does, Prestige does,Schecter does, lots of brands do really.
Also, I don't think locking tuners and glow in the dark side dots belong on a traditional Gibson replica. I was quoting them for the sake of the argument that it would probably cost less to build a Gibson Les Paul because it isn't neck through, hasn't got glow in the dark side dots or locking tuners whatsoever.
Also, It's been a while since Gibson started outsourcing their cases for the USA models, which is why they don't say "Gibson USA" anymore.
Ugh, I'm really triggered by the commercial that starts by burning a guitar.
What commercial?
No commercials here.
My custom shop 2019 LPC’s nut had sharp edges and the slots still had excess nylon hanging off them and the fact the guitar has a bigsby this caused lots of issues. The saddle weren’t even filed. When I used the bigsby the bridge would actually move. Lots of work had to be done to get it to work nicely and to not scratch my hand on the nut. Plek isn’t enough to get it right. It’s a shame such a high priced guitar was so neglected.
@4:07 a little far from that right now but I’m sure you’ll get there some day
Man, I dig that flying V in the background! If it's a V then It's for me...GIBSON!
I wonder how long it will be before Gibson starts to threaten people with lawsuits saying they are the originator of the Plex machine?
Its what they do best, not sure where they decided to be a company of 'war' and 'attacks' instead of a music related business.
And yet there are still guitar retailers who will offer to ‘Plek’ your Gibson for an added cost!
Can you Please show how the Custom Shop Les Paul’s are made!! Then show how the Acoustic’s are made! Thanks!
If it says Gibson on the headstock, it has perfectly Pleked frets and file marks on the edge of the fretboard.
I wish Gibson would work on the design of the guitars. Work on the vintage weak points, broken (head stock), (bridges) that shift, bend, collapses, (wiring) that is hard to fix, (playability) able to reach all the frets and lastly (scale lengths) so people can tune down and stay in tune.
Who are the jerks who gave a thumbs down?
People have a right to their opinion, probably why there is a 'thumbs down' button.
The guitar should be Pleked according the the actual Gauge Strings the player uses
And the Players playing preference.
Why a rounded fret profile? Shouldn’t it be a fine point up top for better intonation.
No, rounded (crowned) is correct.
@@ParaBellum2024 correct and better are two different things. A fine point fret will always have better intonation than a rounded fret. A rounded fret has a larger point of contact than a fine point. you want the string to contact right at the middle of the fret and no where else. any larger of a contact and you'll be close to the front of the fret and will be playing sharp
@@juka421 Thank you. Do you write from experience of crowning frets, or is this just your opinion? When I crown frets, I create a rounded profile. As any luthier will tell you, only an idiot would file frets to a narrow ridge. There's no advantage in intonation, and the fret will wear quickly.
outro music sounds like a strat
When is the fragile neck-headstock design being addressed and improved? It's much stronger on imported Epiphones, and stronger on other brands. That poor design is just as much a quality problem as anything else being improved. Lower headstock angle, Scarf joint, small truss rod hole (or move it to the heel), and a volute -- all high quality design features other competitors have done for decades to help make their products more durable and long lasting Quality..
jvin248 Because they don’t need to change anything, it’s fine the way it is.
Sadly, it's Gibson, so people are still going to buy them no matter what and they know it. They know it's an issue, they don't care, you'll buy another gibson if your headstock breaks off, in their mind.
Episode 9: Cease and Desist orders
What’s the range on a Les Paul Special? A: depends on how far you can throw it! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Send some of these to Epiphone; sort out the new Les Paul as the frets are a mess.
4:14 nuclear Nadal?
I've heard hand made can be better than plek. G&L now says this. Any truth to this?
My les paul lpj definately didnt make it to this step
I plecked about two hundred ...
И на гипсане армяне... чтож такое...
Hey look. Guitars getting Plek'd wrong!
Less videos more quality control for the money
Still to expensive for a guitar mostly made by machine...
Yeah
I bet Cesar and Agnesi are brothers
All this tech and yet nuts are all fucked up, frets flat as a pancake, feet ends sticking out, you name it.
Epiphone are way better atm
Oh Gibson, it would help if the frets were in the right places LOL
If it says Gibson in the headstock". Let me stop you right there, it could be made in China e even even if it says Gibson in the head.
“If it says Gibson on the headstock you know it is made entirely in the United States” that is a very misleading statement considering the amount of counterfeit “chibsons” around with Gibson on the headstock that are made entirely in China.
“Gibson guitar, made by machines and horribly overpriced”
Tob Wood Obviously you didn’t watch the same videos that I did. Go watch a Fender or Ibanez factory tour and tell me which guitars are built by machines
You have a point, it’s a miracle I a per even touches a fender before they get to the store, at least Gibson hasn’t become hopeless, but $4,000 a little strap for a guitar 😂
It's still a crap something in 2020. Plek operator knows shit about Gibson's history. Was thinking of elitist, nerd, Cesar Gueikian, when I clicked the video. Tell us about the quality of the $6, 000 guitars you brought to NAMM. And your $13,000 reliced guitars. And that you've never managed to copy Slash's Les Paul copy. How much did you charge for the, "as close as you're going to get," copy of a copy? And how do I have to pay for your crap in Canada? Fender's are worth the money you pay for them.
Stop calling your customer base "fans". I dont know who's idea that was, but it's a bad one.
Plekking isnt anywhere near as good as having your Les Paul fret levelled by a pro luthier.
All my Les Paul's 2016 to 18 models play amazing now.
Tried 2 new ones a 50s standard and a 2019 Bolivian Rosewood R8 and have to be honest and say the 16, 17 and 18s blow these new ones away in build quality. Also the bridge of the 50s standard was absolute garbage.
Gibson since 2019 is just a name...
over complicated BS.
