  • Migrant crossings at the US-Mexico border have hit an all-time high.
More than 10,000 people entered the United States every day this week.
The crisis is putting President Joe Biden under pressure as he heads into an election year.
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken visited Mexico to ask for support in keeping migrants within its borders.
But how can this be achieved?
And how will the issue of immigration play out politically inside the US?
    Presenter: Laura Kyle
    Guests:
Rebekah Wolf -- Senior Advocacy Strategist at the American Immigration Council, a non-profit organisation
Leon Fresco -- Immigration attorney and former Deputy Assistant Attorney General in charge of Immigration at the US Justice Department
Maureen Meyer -- Vice President for Programs at the Washington Office on Latin America, a human rights advocacy organisation

I have a house in Mexico and have been down here 8 years. I go back and forth. I have never seen anything even close to this. It is crazy. The lukeville crossing I have used is small. They closed it completely and every day there is video of hundreds of people pouring through. It is costing the US huge in resources. The vast majority need to be sent home. Maybe Haitians and a couple other countries have legit asylum claims. But the vast majority are not truely needing asylum. They just want to live in the US. My Mexican friends don’t want them all here either. We need to pass new legislation on the border. It is big companies that want this for cheap labor. Which also hurts current residents. This is an absolute train wreck.

...not just for cheap labor. more renters drives up housing prices, more mouths = higher food, etc.... well, you get the idea.

That’s exactly who wants them here. And the Democrats who constantly cry about big corporate influence are the ones feeding them cheap labor so they can possibly stem inflation by weakening wages. It’s a good plan but unless they are going to enforce rent controls its going to backfire. Where will these people live?

The idea that the U.S. simply "lets them all in" is not correct. There's something we have in the U.S. called legal immigration and due process. Messy and imperfect as it is, we need to have some semblance of common sense and remember we're talking about human beings. The bigger picture of addressing the myriad of issues of "why" people feel so compelled to leave their homelands in desperation in the first place needs to be addressed in earnest.

My parents came to america with documents, IDs, a sponsor, relitivies to live with... And grandparents. As well. I was then born some years later, my parents have had many stuggles, rasing us, feeding us, clothing us, making sure the rent was paid, other bills.l understood most of my childhood, teenage time's, that I could not ask for much from my parents. Hopefully just food, roof, shelter. Going to grade school k to 12 grade, diploma.... I am grateful...... I'm USA citizen. I got my first job. Mcdonald's... At 17years. Worked part time... Eared enough money to just ,cloth myself, buy food for brother and I,to eat , little more...as growing teenagers...boys, eat ALOT... So, working at McDonald's.. from 17 to 24 year's age... Living at home and contribute to house hold expenses.... That would be grocery store, gas to use car of parents... One car. Share. It was not much then, I could work, earn a ckeck for 100. To 120. Per week. To pay.. parents were relieved, that my brother and I could buy clothes for myself, n buy house hold food, contribute to house hold. While, my parents both worked to keep roof over our heads. So, then I moved on away from home. Was not easy... To work, pay for things. Rent, food, shelter. A job. I lived 4 year's on own. Then ,moved back home to work n save.....save......not easy... Also contribute back at home. Then, my brother n I pulled our money together to get a tiny home... 😂 back in 2005... Then, as of today. We r surriving.... On the edge All the time. .. on the edge... 😢I have had so, debts in past from 2005, to 2010... Payed off.. no more credit card. . .
Just living expenses from after, 2011 to now 2023... It's not easy, can be painful. Our minimum wage is so crazyyyyy low....wages.... That it's a joke. We Americans. R poor.... I'm poorer then my parents.... We All want to work, n make it. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤I'm always trying soooooo hard. I'm always here to smile and be a bit happy. It's not easy, not easy. N I don't pray or think about how good if ,I could just be richer,or say something like everyone what's to hit it, big, or win the lottery jacket pot🎉🎉🎉...or become a millionaire.... We all know what that means. Hahaha yeah right hahaha LoL 🤣.... Here I am today. Always facing many new challenges. Trying to kinda get ahead... What does that mean?😮😅, There's more to discuss, my adventure time with life being born in america.😂....😅.....😮......😢....... Each moje... Is some years of experience of my life starting with frist one moje.😂😅😮😢, The last one is 😢... It not easy....

The "freedom fighters" could have actually freed people from the yoke of tyrrany, poverty, gross mismanagement and corruption. But no. They instead supported people like Pinochet if they should lend an active hand, which is questionable. China is more helpful than America is in a country like Argentina for instance, and even have military meetings guarded by armed masked soldiers and Chinese armored vehicles in Buenos Aires which I saw with my own eyes. Can you imagine what would happen if the US showed up with a bunch of armed and masked navy seals and armored personel carriers/crowd crushers to conduct a meeting in Buenos Aires with "USA" written boldly all over the vehicles? But that is how much the US cares about Latin America, they are non existent unless threatened personally or have something to economically gain.

I will never forget how hard it was for the eastern european nurses I have worked with to get their citizenships. Or the Phillipino nurses I have worked with (1 who could only afford to visit her husband, every 2 to 3 years. He had to wait 5 years AFTER HER, so she is almost OUT of HER reproductive years.)

Border crossings ebb and flow. This is not new. "Closing" the border on either side will not happen because of the massive amount of trade between both countries, including local community trade. The bigger picture of addressing the myriad of issues of "why" people feel so compelled to leave their homelands in desperation in the first place needs to be addressed in earnest.

Unfortunately, only the gentleman from Washington D.C. was the most objective out of all the speakers on the panel. The remaining two lady panelists were more so sympathetic to their own human emotions. For instance, unfortunately, detention and holding facilities is the ONLY way to approach the migrants for now. I know it may sound inhumane, but the migrants CANNOT assimilate into American society on their own human efforts, which has been VERILY proven over the decades. The lady speakers on the panel are suggesting that the federal government invest in the cities to help the migrants assimilate into their respective and newfound American societies. Actually, there is NO federal government across the global earth that will do that. The U.S. federal government is NOT going to pour in monies to invest in citizens from other nations where it’s not even guaranteed they qualify to stay here in the States. The federal government is NOT going to deliberately make themselves look stupid by doing that. But I guess all the more reason why politicians should NOT make promises they CANNOT keep. The two lady panelists NEED to fact check their arguments before they give their assessments on a national broadcast.

@@ebonyr.b.1216 I’ll give you kudos for the latter where there could have been some points the gentleman on the panel could have explained a little more thoroughly. But explaining his point more thoroughly with the remaining panelists wouldn’t have made a difference. I’ve seen Rebekah Wolf representing New York on the panel in previous dialogues, and she is definitely PRO immigration by any means necessary; sorry, but that’s where I get off the freight train. Some of the excuses she made for migrants to cross the borders illegally were notrocious. None of these migrant advocates will accept any blame on the migrants even when they’re completely at fault. I understand that desperation will cloud human judgment, but there’s still a penalty to pay for doing that. Sometimes that penalty does cost the migrants their lives, sad. But my point is that NO federal government across the earth is going to invest in making the migrants’ illegal trespass into their country LESS risky because that’s what Rebekah Wolf would just love to see. You take a good educated guess what would happen to the migrants if they pulled those stunts in the Middle East. Think about it!!!

It is what it is, the USA has some bills due. We ALL, including nations, GET WHAT WE GIVE. WHAT GOES AROUND COMES AROUND…ETC
