    This video is just a work of art in itself. You did such a good job explaining how you were creating the artwork. There wasn't a "Draw the rest of the owl" sort of moment. Showing the closeups of the jaw was really demonstrative as well. Thanks

    I think the most important thing that I learned in this video is that you admitted that you're essentially adding in random colors during the beginning phase of the painting. I know you're still adhering to color theory and everything, but I've always struggled with understanding where artists got the little different splotches of colors within each main area of value. Saying that these color choices are not entirely deliberate is really enlightening and I think I'll try applying this mentality the next time I paint. Thanks!

    As full of wisdom and well presented all your videos on painting are, I have found that this one in particular has helped me the most with my art.
    I have spent years trying to grind fundamentals and do studies every day, anxiously sitting in front of the canvas and clenching my stylus like a gun was pointed to my head, ready to go off at the slightest mistake.
    What this particular exercise of yours showed me was that painting was, first and foremost, fun. I looked at you laying down big shapes on the canvas, playing in that puddle of chaos without caring about how wet your boots were going to get. It has offered me so much comfort to see that art can, and should be an exploration.
    I have started doing personnal projects alongside my studies and letting loose a little bit on the canvas, and I have never felt better about painting.
    Thank you for everything you're doing for the community, Marc

    OMG! This is incredibly well explained. This just goes to show that painting is just a mosaic of shapes of different varieties coming together and we have to train our mind to see that way. The end result is affected by how you feel about those shapes. Thank you so much for your videos!

    @Marco Bucci You are my favorite tutor cause you say not only what you are doing but what you think and what decicions you make during painting and this is the most important. Sharing and describing thoughts, proccesses, decicions BEFORE you lay a stroke is the greatest lesson and not everyone can do this.

    Your videos are really great. You are honest and straight forward about how photoshop painting is dependent on fundamentals but also give insight to how it is an amazing tool that can really give you beautiful and relatively fast results. As an analogy, it is like a missile that you need to guide with fundamentals or it can blow up in your face. Keep up the good work I've grown a bunch by watching your videos.

      Thanks! I spend a considerable amount of effort in organizing thoughts and making sure I am using very clear language. It's amazing how little time you actually need to deliver a message, so long as you spend the time in advance working it out. I mean, I don't always nail it, it's something I'm always working on.
      I'd advise you that if you find yourself in an art class where your teacher cannot get through to you in a single session, chances are that teacher is either not good, doesn't care enough, or simply not the right fit for you.

    Am I the only one who got confused by all the layer manipulation at the second batman? IS there a good tutorial about those layers digital painters seem to use regularly?
    Can't believe he painted that without a single brush stroke, wow.

    • @marcobucci
      @marcobucci  7 років тому +82

      It's actually much simpler than it looks. I use 'Multiply' layers when I want to darken things, and 'Linear Dodge' when I want to lighten. I'm only using all those layers because I am too lazy to keep it organized. I had no plan. But it all boils down to either a layer that makes things darker, or a layer that makes things lighter.

    You'll probably never see this but another way to do your thing at 3:20 is duplicate it then use filters>high pass> turn it up or down until you can barrrrely make out the details and then put that layer on Overlay and tune the opacity/fill to your liking, I find it helps (especially in photographs) to give it a sharper look without destroying anything in the process or using any kind of general filter etc.
