"Why make a comment about it being a Replica?" Maybe because people interested in historic aircraft could be misled by the title that just says "Spitfire" into thinking this was an historically important airframe rather than a kitplane?

The title isn't trying to mislead anyone guys, you're overreacting. It didn't say "Historic Spitfire lands without wheels" it just said Spitfire and that is a Spitfire.
Unbelievable! Great flying skills for the pilot. He turned that dangerous situation to a movie like scene. Great Job and still that Spitfire still looks like it wasn't damage at all.
That was a superb emergency landing, any pilot would appreciate what this chap has just done in a potentially very dangerous situation. He even managed to put the aircraft down clear of the active runway so not to sot the airfield being operational. Why make a comment about it being a Replica? Why? Whats that got to do with anything? Its a replica that somebody has taken hundreds of hours to build and has just had an accident in.
Tricki Dicki The fact that it's a replica is significant because it's smaller and lighter than the real aircraft, with much slower landing and stall speeds, making this landing a totally different prospect (as skillfully executed as it was). It's also relevant because, however many hours are involved, a replica is replaceable. A historic airframe is not. It goes without saying that. in either case, the pilot's safety is paramount. Incidentally, the Spitfire was (is) very forgiving of wheels-up landings. If it was landed on grass, particularly wet grass, and if the engine was cut and the prop didn't strike the ground (fairly likely with the early 2-bladed fixed pitch props, increasingly less so as more blades were added), the only repair necessary sometimes was to jack the aircraft up and fix whatever had prevented the gear from coming down. They would often be returned to the flight line the same day.
otterspocket2 Actually, this airframe wouldn't be any easier to replace than a MK1 Spit. The MK26 kit is not manufactured anymore. It's far more likely that a WWII aircraft would be rebuilt from scratch as we see more and more.
"Why make a comment about it being a Replica?" Perhaps because it is such a poor 'replica' ? - it doesn't look much like the real thing. But I agree that the pilot coped well with the issue.
If it were a genuine Spitfire that had had an emergency landing and been damaged, that would be important to the historical aviation community, as there aren't many left. There's nothing that significant about a modern kit plane having an emergency landing
Why would you walk in front of a fire appliance, responding to an emergency, then criticise the guy for sounding the horn??? They’re doing a job, your taking pictures!

***** He did, look how slow the propeller is spinning when he touches down. Even if you completely turn off your engine in flight, it will keep spinning just a little due to wind resistance. A freewheeling prop should stop turning on contact, damaging only those blades at the bottom of their cycle, where a powered one will continue turning and mash/remove the lot. Anyway, it's in the checklist for a wheels-up landing, so somebody obviously thinks it's worthwhile.
***** He did, look how slow the propeller is spinning when he touches down. Even if you completely turn off your engine in flight, it will keep spinning just a little due to wind resistance. Even if the propeller was completely stopped, it would have still been heavily damaged and he would most likely be required to replace most of it.
***** It doesn't really matter. As soon as you are resigned to a gear up landing the aircraft belongs to the insurance company. Why try to minimise damage just to increase the risk to your own life?
smoother than Ryanair
Don't mouth off to the emergency crew, who obviously needed to tell you to get out of their way. Your parents were complete failures.
I mean if you have to land with no wheels, this is exactly how you would want to do it!!! Great Job!!!!
Красиво посадил, безо всякого драматизма, четко и профессионально.

Solid landing by the pilot. Well done! These old World War II Battle of Britain footage clips get better every year!
Well you know what they say, any landing you walk away from is a good one .
