Season 3 is my favorite! It has Faith, Highschool drama and Buffy & Angels best moments. Also I’m a Major willow fan and her character was so funny and adorable the entire season!

Season 3 has the first episode I ever saw which was earshot. That episode hooked me on the show. I am a big faith fan so season 3 is also my favorite. I have been debating on whether or not to get faiths tattoo on my arm.

Interesting list! Here my list (excluding comics):
    7. Season One - it was finding its place, awkward acting, cheesy moments, I still cherish it though
    6. Season Four - I love Restless it is my favorite episode so it hurts putting this at number six; however, compared to the other seasons the storyline of the Initiative and Riley just paled in comparison.
    5. Season Seven - I’ve come to appreciate this season the more I rewatch it - some of the episodes do seem to mix together though but I don’t hate the fact that this was our ending, it left me content and satisfied.
    4. Season Two - This is when Buffy really came to be, especially in Becoming parts 1 & 2. It was engaging, dark, and nerve-racking. The cast really began to step into their roles and execute it brilliantly.
    3. Season Six - This is my favorite season, it’s rawness and darkness really affected me. Willows addiction storyline and Buffy’s depression was needed for the characters, I hated watching it but understood it. It is the most relatable season and the most realistic imo.
    2. Season Three - Episode after episode was absolutely stellar. The characters were grown, the plots were addicting, and the Faith storyline was well acted. It has some great episodes and it was just pure Buffy.
    1. Season Five - This is Buffy’s most cohesive season. Each and every episode in this season either added to the characters growth or to the storyline, perfectly blending humor and stomach churning tension, which cultivated into a heart reaching season finale. Plus, it contains The Body - need I say less?

Season 2 is what hooked me on the show, and I’ll always love it as my number one favorite as well. Didn’t read the comics so can weight in there, but I thought your list was solid, at least in terms of the show.

Season 5 is my favorite hands down with fool for love being my favorite episode. Spike is my favorite character and he's firing on all levels in that season. Fool for love shows of that great dynamic between spike and buffy that is almost separate from the rest of the show. He brings out the dual personalities in her were everyone else just doesn't get it.

My personal ranking from worst to best.
    7. Season 1 - Not bad but a lot of standalone episodes are tough to get through. Buffy’s flirtation with Angel was my favorite part of the season. Promising pilot and a great season finale. Not bad but overall an average start to what became a classic.
    6. Season 7 - Everything from here on up, I find extremely rewatchable. The show has peaked by this point but the effort to wrap up the story in epic fashion is still evident and I think it pulls it off.
    5. Season 4 - The natural progression to college and seeing the scoobies grow into adults is fun to watch. I get people might not be the biggest fans of the initiative or Riley but I think the arc lasted as long as it needed to. Also, James Marsters becomes a regular so it’s gonna be a top 5 season.
    4. Season 3 - It was sad to say goodbye to the high school era of the show but it went out in a blaze of glory. Faith vs Buffy was completely riveting TV. The Mayor was evil but it was nice to see him be a different villain than The Master or Angelus’ type of evil and see his genuine care of Faith. This is also the end of the Buffy and Angel saga which reaches a poignant conclusion.
    3. Season 6 - Yes it’s a dark season that deals with depression but it takes risks and I admire that. As a huge Spuffy fan, it was fun watching Buffy’s feelings change for Spike, even if she couldn’t admit it.
    2. Season 2 - Watching Bangel’s romance reach a peak and seeing Buffy’s horror to Angelus take the place of the man she loved will always be chef’s kiss drama. The twists and turns of the season made me binge hard. And the introduction of Spike and Dru took this show to another level. This season made me fall for the show.
    1. Season 5 - Nearly every episode is a banger. Glory was a fantastic villain and watching Buffy being pushed to the brink of despair while trying to protect Dawn just makes you feel for her. It’s like Doomsday killing Superman. Other subplots of Spike realizing his feelings for Buffy was amazing. This season quite literally broke the show and it never got as good as this again.

My order from favourite to least favourite: 6, 5, 7, 2, 3, 4, 1. I love the whole show, of course, even if I prefer the later seasons. I understand if people prefer the earlier seasons, but I always find it weird when someone loves the earlier seasons and absolutely hates the later ones. I feel the show stayed pretty consistent, but to each their own, I suppose.
For yet more controversy, here's my hottest Buffy take -> 'Normal Again' is a brilliant episode and sits in my top ten.

I think Season 7 could have gotten away with not having monster of the week episodes if they didn’t bring so many new people in
To me with it been the final season and having to up the threat and be the big epic finale, monster of the week episodes could have been frustrating and character development could have still happened if they didn’t introduce so many new people but you got a good point about what the monster of the week episodes do

FINALLY, someone who appreciates the game changing series/season of BTVS that is series two.
I love it for all the reasons you stated.
I haven't read the comics but know a lot about them however because of the Angel/Twilight saga which I absolutely despise on finding out the plot, it's not made me that interested in reading them and given the other slayer and vampire with a soul relationship that I also despise, the comics aren't for me to enjoy but it's good that you and others got pleasure from them.
I do also love series 3 and series 5 however in my ranking, I would switch them from what you have on your ranking.
I have a lot of nostalgic for series one so that's fourth for me as it's the reason I continue to watch BTVS.
Series four is fifth and then series seven because I really enjoyed the two part series finale.
So series six is my worst BTVS simply because I'm not a fan of Spike. Or the spuffy relationship. I even prefer Buffy and Riley to them. I'm just not a lover of villains in general.
I find Angelus fascinating but that because he is part of Angel and vice verse. And The Mayor was interesting because of his connection to Faith. These are my top two with Angelus being no.1. Still I can say I don't love either of them but find their story arcs on BTVS brilliantly done.
So back to series six and for me this is where my enjoyment of BTVS lessened. I still rate the show as a whole and always will. I've even re-watch it again and found some genuine touching moments from Spike but that more at the start of the series.
I just emotionally didn't connect to this series or a lot of what was happening with most of the characters. It was heavy in it's portray which I know it was meant to be but I got no love and enjoyment from what happened throughout the season and I include loving OMWF. Sure it a great and creative episode in what was produced but I don't rated it anywhere in my top list of Favourite BTVS or ATS episodes. But I appreciate that they did something different and special for the show and for it's time.
So while I have got a chance to re-watch the whole show, I've only got series 1-3 on dvd and am quite happy leaving it at that.

My favourite season is 3, closely followed by 4. While there is certain agreement about 3, usually 4 is among the least liked ones. I see that its main arc is a mess, but I liked how it realistically depicted the transitions between highschool and college. Giles' middle age crisis was also in character and Willow 's coming out process was nicely developed.

Great video! I really loved hearing all of your thoughts on the seasons! And I think it was cool that you ranked the comics, too!
I haven't read season 11-12 yet, but I'm getting there. And while I get why people have problems with them, and might choose to see them as non-canon, I'm still glad they exist. I'll always be glad for more Buffy. Like, I'm excited for the book that Disney's publishing about Buffy's niece who's a Slayer. Hopefully THAT will be good, too!
And I definitely understand why you ranked season 10 so high. I feel the same way. Season 10 is amazing!

I agree with a lot your list and especially your explanation for the rankings. My list would be (excluding the comics because I haven’t read them yet and most fans say they’re not worth it):
    7. Season 1- Very camp, very basic, very cheap looking and very rushed. It’s an easy watch. It has some necessary character development and a few solid episodes. But those things can’t lift it beyond my last spot. (favorite episodes: Prophecy Girl, Angel, Nightmares).
    6. Season 7- It was a passable final season. But the second half is really lacking and not all that engaging. Too much focus on the potentials, yet they still did a poor job at fleshing them out and making you care about them. Some of where they take the main characters isn’t that believable considering what we know about them. And the series finale is whatever-ish to me. (favorite episodes: Conversations With Dead People, Selfless, Same Time Same Place)
    5. Season 4- A lot of it is fun, and it had many solid individual episodes. But the main arc ends up developing disappointingly. And it doesn’t have the emotional weight of other seasons. Still, a good enough season. (favorite episode: Restless, Hush, Who Are You?)
    4. Season 6- Probably the most divisive season of the TV show. Many think it’s one of the two best seasons. Many think it’s one of the couple worst. Obviously, I have it about in the middle. I admire its ambition and its desire to give us a more lurid and darker tone. But some of it is too heavy-handed and redundant. And the Dark Willow arc could have been better than what it was. Those few episodes highlighting DW should have been some of the best of the show, but they weren’t. (favorite episodes: Once More With Feeling, Entropy, Normal Again)
    3. Season 3- Definitely the most consistent season. There’s just a lot of solid episodes here and hardly any throwaways. I still feel that it doesn’t have the emotional weight and ambition of my two top seasons, and not many episodes this season represent the show at its very best. But I get why so many think it’s the best (favorite episodes: Helpless, Dopplegangland, Graduation Day Part 1)
    2. Season 5- If I had to say what season I feel is the “best”, I’m somewhat inclined to say this one. It had a very well done, surprising and page turning main arc. It made you invest emotionally. And it has a handful of some of the show’s very best episodes. The season does lack some fun factor. And I just like my number 1 pick a bit more. (favorite episodes: The Gift, The Body, Fool For Love)
    1. Season 2- I get people saying it’s not consistent and that the first half is a bit shoddy. However, I’m not here for people saying that the show doesn’t click until Surprise/Innocence. Those episodes definitely raised the stakes. However, Halloween, What’s My Line, Lie To Me, School Hard, When She Was Bad were fun, important, solid pre-Angelus episodes. The Angelus arc is probably the best thing this show ever did. And the season balanced out the fun and wit with real emotional and character stakes. I also adore the two part finale. It might be my favorite episode of the series. (favorite episodes: Becoming, Innocence, Passion)

    • @bufflepuff1896

Most fans say the comics aren't worth it because they haven't read them or quit after the convoluted nature of S8. But then they complain about stories they didn't get to see from non-greenlit shows that ended up in the comic stories because the shows weren't greenlit. Personally most comics seasons are good. S8 sours the people who try, then quit. And for good reason as it ranks lower for me when listing all twelve seasons together.

bufflepuff, do you watch reactors on UA-cam? There are 20 or so reactors who are watching (or have watched) Buffy. You might enjoy watching other people watch Buffy.
Passion of the Nerd is doing reviews of Buffy/Angel/Firefly.
Why am I telling you this? Because I think that the people who watch the above videos would likely watch your videos too. Obviously Buffy came out a long time ago, but there is a nice amount of Buffy activity on UA-cam right now.
BTW, I like all the things you listed at the beginning, but Buffy is my favorite also. Nothing is as funny or emotional as Buffy. I guess the MCU comes pretty close in both areas.

Good list, I think I agree to the most part about the flaws and strenghts you pointed out of most seasons.
However, I looove that dark Willow "pro" line lol. In my opinion Alyson Did great as a villain, but I agree she had some questionable lines like when they make her say she is a junkie or more obvious lines to show that's an "addiction metaphor"... Like we get It.
I tried to read the comics but I Just stopped during season 8. It's just not the same thing and It felt more like a cash grab, to me Buffy ended completely on chosen... but I respect the fact you liked the comics.

I'm so happy to see S10 in the top 5 on your list. It really is a great season. I loved the Big Bad of the season and how S10 kind gives proper closure to a lot of the pain and hurt that came from S6. All of the characters were utilized really well in that season too, and I'm a Spuffy shipper, so I loved all of their relationship stuff. The handling of their relationship is also what makes me rather keen to S11 as well. I'm a big fan of the political aspect as well, though I would have loved if they did a deeper dive into the concentration camp idea and the bigger world impacts on that.
Anyway, for my list, I would go with more of a Tier structure.
    Loved It: Season 5, Season 6, Season 7, Season 10, Season 11
Liked It: Season 2, Season 4, Season 9
    Okay: Season 1, Season 8
    No, Thank You: Season 3
Thanks, I Hate It: Season 12

Hi! I really enjoyed your video. Buffy is my favoutite tv show and always will be. You are so young and I appreciate the fact that you liked it so much. I mean, I get that nowadays it might seem a bit old-fashioned.
I'm 25 and I used to watch it as a child, but I'm Italian and unfortunately Buffy seasons arrived in a mixed order, here 😅
The first I ever watched was the 5th 😂 just imagine how confused I was, but I fell for it right away.
Anyway, I never had the chance to read the comics 'cause they are so hard to find in italian, but also in english (some have become quite rare).
I like how you analyzed all the seasons and I partly agree. Here's my own list:
    1) Season 5 (Beacuse: Glory is my fav villain, introducing Dawn was pure genius, The Body episode, Spike, The Gift episode and so many others)
    2) Season 7 (Because I think it's a very good ending, peaceful and kinda hopeful for the future; also the First is such a cool villain, he's EVERYONE, the scene with all the prevoius antagonists always gives me chills)
    3) Season 6 (Bacause it is very dark and deep and I honestly appreciate the fact that for once the villain is not some mistical creature, but just regular, stupid human beings. It's an important statement: humans can be just as dangerous and can kill just as easily. Tara's death was a real trauma because it happened so fast and nothing magical was involved, just a gun. It was powerful just like Joyce's death precisely because it is one of the few deaths that are not caused by a vampire/demon. Also, Buffy dealing with her own death, having to find a job, risking to lose Dawn...it's just so much to digest, but also greatly executed)
    4) Season 2 (I'm just gonna say: Angelus (best psycho ever) and the heartbreaking finale...Buffy's such a strong-willed character. Also, Oz 💚)
    5) Season 4 (I rewatched it lately and I was impressed by the amount of really good episodes that this season contains. But then again there's Riley, so....mmmm...not a fan, he' ok, but he's a bit dull compared to Angel and Spike)
    6) Season 3 ( I don't know why I always find it hard to remember everything that happens here...maaaany things. Faith is great, but I think one also needs to watch her in Angel to have a complete idea of her path, her growth. The Mayer, just hilarious and, sometimes, strangely adorable)
    7) Season 1 (Of course it's sort of a cult, the beginning of everything. I like it, but compared to the others I think it's the weakest. It does its job: introducing what is gonna come next. Brilliantly, no doubt)

Great video. I have read the comics but I really don’t care enough about them to rank them. My list is.
    7. Season 1:
While I agree it’s a comfort season, it has not aged well. It’s very cringeworthy and hard to relate too. On top of that I just don’t vibe the cheesiness. Most people who get into Buffy these days often find it hard because of the first season and I see why. The Master is pretty standard and the storyline is very simplistic and not really as good or engaging as the others. One thing it does do well is establish the characters. Overall I can enjoy it on a nostalgic level but in terms of quality it’s not great.
    6. Season 4
I think there is a big jump in quality here from Season 1. It has some of the funniest episodes and best stand alone episodes of the series and I think they handled the transition from high school to University very well. What holds it back is the Riley/Adam/Initiative plot line. While I would say Adam is a horrible villain, he is the least entertaining and weakest in terms of quality. I didn’t really care about him. Riley was also a lackluster character I didn’t care for. I just find myself struggling to get through the whole storyline. If the main arc was stronger Season 4 would be higher. Still a good season.
    5. Season 2
I’m gonna say it. I think Season 2 is very overrated. I definitely think it smashes Season 1 to pieces and is a vast improvement. Angelus, Spike and Drusilla were far more compelling and entertaining villains than the master. Angelus in particular is one of the best villains in the whole series, and the episodes that centre around him are some of the shows strongest. I also think the characters develop so well and I’m far more invested in them. The reason why I think it isn’t as strong as people say is because the pacing is off. Some of the MOTW still suffer from the same problems as Season 1, and they left a bad taste in my mouth. You have one amazing solid episode then one cheesy cringe filler episode that does nothing for me. Overall Season 2 is great, but it’s lack of consistency is why I think it’s overrated.
    4. Season 7
Opposite to Season 2, I think Season 7 is underrated. While I agree the potentials take up a lot of screen time, I love the action and plot Season 7 brings. The first half of the season for me is insanely strong and keeps me on my toes. It does lose momentum in the middle half however when Caleb arrives it gets going again and I think Chosen is a solid finale. The first was a decent villain and its army was no joke, and it really did feel like an end. The stakes felt very high. Caleb was also terrifying. If it wasn’t for the bunch of sloppy episodes in the middle of the season it would be higher. I don’t think plot heavy seasons aren’t always a bad thing.
    3. Season 3
Overall I agree Season 3 is one of the most consistent seasons. The problems in Season 1 and 2 are no where to be seen in 3. Most episodes are very solid and The Mayor was very entertaining. He’s so evil and jolly I can’t help but love him. Faith was also a great addition. While I think the main arc is solid, it doesn’t really get going until the final third of the season which is one of the minor nitpicks I have. I also think the ending to the season was a little anti climactic. I always preferred Part 1 with Buffy vs Faith rather than the fight with the mayor. It also lacks the emotional punch Season 2 did so brilliantly. Season 3 is by far the best season of the high school days, and it’s very solid from start to finish.
    2. Season 6
For me this season and Season 5 are far and away the two best seasons of Buffy. Season 6 is so relatable and dark I live for it. Buffy’s toxic relationship with spike and her depression hit too close to home for me and I think it’s executed perfectly. I find this season to be the most emotionally impacting because of the real life struggles the characters we love are going through. Some of us have dealt with it. I also don’t think the Trio are bad by any means and it adds a nice change in direction of villains. The Dark Willow saga was the icing on the cake. It’s my favourite stretch of episodes in the series and the yellow crown speech gets me everytime. Back when I was younger I would have put this in the bottom 3, but as I’ve aged this season has shot up to the Top 2. It’s so well done and it impacts me the most out of every season.
    1. Season 5
For me it’s the best. There is no other option. Although Season 6 is a close second Season 5 for me is an absolute masterpiece. It mixes the strengths of Season 2 and 3. Most episodes were very high quality yet it delivered the emotional punch Season 2 did so well. On top of that the stakes were elevated to a new level. Glory is arguably the most powerful villain Buffy had ever faced and her pursuit of Dawn that would result in multiversal destruction really raised the tension and stakes. I think it’s the strongest storyline is the series. Also on top of being totally insane and powerful I love the fact that Glory is so entertaining and vain. Joyce’s death was also one of the best episodes of TV ever, and the Gift is the strongest and most satisfying finale. The way the characters develop is also phenomenal, from Buffy to Willow to Spike etc. While there were one or two episodes that were rough around the edges, Season 5 from start to finish is a dam near perfect season. For me it’s the best.

Totally agree with what you said about season 5 mixing the strengths of 2 and 3! And while I do love season 2…I do agree it is a bit overrated. It’s still my favorite but I can admit nostalgia and bias make me ignore some of its flaws. The MOTW episodes are definitely the worst part of the season and do mess with the pacing as you said. I think part of the reason that doesn’t bother me though is because I kind of cheat upon rewatching it and skip my least favorites 😬😂

Loved hearing your ranking. I tried the comics but dropped out somewhere S10, I think.
My tvshow ranking is from best to least good
    1. S5: So strong, the only downside for me is how they forced Riley's exit. That should have been done better. But other than that. I loved everything.
    2. S6: I like the darkness really. The trio isn't all that interesting but overal the season works. Plus it includes many great episodes like OMWF.
    3. S4: The villain might have been weak, but the stand alone episodes were really good. Something Blue, Restless, new Moon rising, Hush. It does have the worst buffy episode though 'where the wild thing are' imho, but it doesn't bring down the season much for me.
    4. S2: The show really finds itself, and the villains work so well. Spike, Dru and Angelus are great.
    5. S7: I love the earlier episodes like you do, and I do like the overal plot. I'd rank it higher if Kennedy hadn't been in it though. But lies my parent told and storytelling are so good later in the season, so that helps to have something to look forward to on rewatches.
    6. S3: Its low for a season most people love, but I just don't like any of it really, apart from some of my fave stand alone episodes like The wish and Doublegangland. It doesn't help that I don't like faith nor the mayor and Willow x Xander doesn't help sell this season either.
7: S1: The episodes are okay, but nothing to write home about.
I always feel you end up liking the seasons that have the characters in it your prefer. S1-S3 has a high school feel to it, with Cordelia, Angel, Jenny and Oz + the main four. S4-7 has a more adult feel to it with spike + Riley+ Anya + Dawn + Tara. I like the latter in both combinations more. The feel and the characters. So that explains why some seasons are low for me, but probably high for others.

Pretty much my order too, for the top three anyway..
S5: Glory just had a aura of power more than the other main villains, was just glad to be rid of Riley tbh.
S6:: Life serial, OMWF, tabula rosa, gone and the willow vs buffy/giles moments made up for general trio mehness.
S4: You nailed it, from the great episodes, blah adam and even the weakest episode bit.
I might put S3 next, the mayor while a fun character wasn't threatening enough for me. Band Candy, Lover's walk, The wish,, Dopplegangland and Earshot were great and have barely anything to do with the main season plot.
S2 Halloween, Phases and bewitched.. were nice as well as the Spike and Drusilla moments
S7: I didn't mind Kennedy -that- much, but Rhona's complete defeatism was annoying. I think Andrew probably stole too much screen time too. The first didn't seem like an epic end of 7 seasons boss (even though the idea was meant to be).
S1: I liked the master but being stuck underground he wasn't doing much for nearly the whole season.

5- season 7 : less memorable season but great moments and last fight
4- season 4 : the less good narrative arc but great stand alone episodes
3- season 5 : excellent writting but I think it would be the best if it was the last and because the best seasons for me developed well all the characters
2- season 6 : I don't understand why fans think this is not one of the best season, it was creative, audacious, deep, surprising, a climax for the characters and ALL are developed this season. This is the most important season of the show with an awesome Willow and best writting about resurrection of any TV show.
1- season 3 : because the season was consistent, second half is perfect, strong iconic episodes, best lines, best fights, the Mayor and Faith such a great character. Buffy became another show in season 2 but this season confirmed its quality.

"Angel was possessed by a being called Twilight that was birthed by him and Buffy being together"
So I guess the comics came out in a post-Stephanie Myer world. That's just too perfect.
I have to disagree with your take on s7. The potentials were pretty much there for the sake of the existing characters. They allowed Buffy to take a role as a commander, a step up from her development as a leader through seasons 3-6. They clarified Dawn's position in the group as support, rather than being another fighter. Kennedy and Willow's relationship didn't go that deep but she was used to give Willow self-assurance which I don't think could have been done as well with any existing cast member. 'Lies my parents told me' is my favourite Spike episode. I'd have to do a whole other paragraph for that. So I will.
Spike being given a soul was undercut with the whole First thing. Ultimately I think that worked but it was very frustrating at the start of the season because the biggest question was Spike. What would he be like now that he has a soul? Would he be a completely different person, like Angelus to Angel? 'Lies my parents told me' is when we get the answer. He's Spike. He doesn't blame himself for any of the evil the demon that killed him caused in his body. He was shaped by those experiences, but at the same time he doesn't let them define him (as Angel did by committing to a self-flagellating life of impossible retribution). He will do what he believes is right, but also he will do what he wants to because he is a person. He totally rejects the perspective that the demon reflects his self, because although it is a mirror of his personality it is driven at its core by something that is not part of him (highlighted by his assessment of his mother, and the demon he put in her). Wood pretty much exists for the sake of Spike's character. Also he's a great character himself. Anyway, 'Lies my parents told me' is the first time we see the real Spike. He's a totally new character, but at the same time he's a character we totally knew. It's great.
I dunno, maybe I'm just gushing because I love that episode so much, but I really feel like the inclusion of the potentials helped the main cast more than it took away from them. I like Kennedy. Early on she was annoying but through her relationship with Willow you get to see the value of her character. She's like a really loyal dog. I think out of all the potentials she was the one with the most faith they could win the fight. Killing Johnathan was an unforgivable sin though, and Andrew isn't nearly as good. It's great for the plot, but... yeah. I'd put s7 much higher, above seasons 1, 2 & 4.
S6 is one of the best seasons of tv ever. It goes right at the top of the list. The trio are the best villains. So they start out as something we really can't take seriously having just come off the back of Buffy vs a God. Just some dumb kids. Then they kidnap and enslave a girl for gratification, and Warren kills her. Most of Buffy does a great job of using fantastical horror as allegory for real world issues, but the trio are as real as Buffy gets. Setting aside The Body, that's not what I mean. The effect as a viewer of seeing these dumb, annoying brats who just mess with people we care about suddenly turn into real, dangerous monsters is very strong. Then 'Seeing Red'. The trio get more fantastical and unreal as the season goes on, but it's when reality snaps back they (well, Warren) get dangerous. Buffy crushes Warren's balls. Hello metaphor. Shattering the overblown fantasy masculinity of this weak, puffed-up abuser pushes him over the edge and SNAP. Goodbye controlled, grounding influence for magic junkie Willow. Big exploration of addiction, revenge and the stages of grief. Depression, nihilism, unconditional love. All of it justified in the plot and in the characters as they've been established for 6 seasons. It's a masterpiece. You know you get it. As for the cringe, maybe it's just my background, but seriously the most dangerous people say the cringiest things. When you stop caring about the consequences of your actions, apparently you stop caring about how dumb and edgy you sound. I wouldn't look up testimonials from school shooters but just take it from me. Cringe.
Other than that I pretty much agree. S2 is really brought down by its weaker material in my mind but it does have some of the strongest drama. S1 is a big fun campy romp, but with plenty of misses. S3 is fantastic but lacks the heights that would elevate it above 5, 6 and 7. Well maybe it is above 7. I just really love LMPTM. S4 has two of the best episodes but gets lost in a meandering plot, although to be fair I think that's because the actor who played Maggie Walsh decided to leave the show, and she was supposed to be the big bad. There was a whole thing there. But the whole fusion ritual and the consequence in the final episode was some of the most creative work in the whole show. S5 has an exceptionally strong plot and isn't really brought down by anything, but just doesn't have the dramatic heights that make S6 definitely and easily the best season. Which it is. Clearly.

Oh also, kudos for doing this, and well. It's obvious you know the show well and care about it a lot. The production of the video is decent. Even the ominous humming from the AC or whatever it was is kind of appropriate lol. Getting good audio in a room that isn't purpose built for it is not easy, but for this content what you've got is perfectly fine. If I have one piece of advice, it's to script your next videos. I'm assuming you're going to want to do deep dives into the material. For a general overview of your personal opinion on the show's seasons, unscripted is appropriate, but if you're going to make content pieces analyzing the story in sections, or covering specific characters or whatever, I think it will be way better if you organize your thoughts first to draw out every drop of water from the stone.

Fun video. I really like Season 7, though.
    My list would be:
    Last place.
Season 4 Loses all of the show's horror elements and makes Buffy too light and a little vacuous. Adam is the worst villain. Riley is awful. The initiative is boring too.
Season 1: Fun and funny, but rougher with such a low budget and terrible music.
Season 6: Well-made and beautifully shot and acted. But very depressing and a little less fun than the other seasons.
Season 2: Some of the show's best episodes and a gorgeous thread through the Buffy and Angelus plot. But the filler episodes are pretty disposable.
Season 3: My favorite of the high-school years. Moving and funny and action packed with perfect tonal balance.
Season 7: I think this is the most underrated season. The central feminist arc is beautifully constructed, Conversations With Dead People is possibly my favorite episode ever. And the final stretch (episodes 18-22) is my favorite section of the series. This season has the show's best makeup, it's best special effects and it's best music. As well as some incredibly effective villains like Gnarl, Caleb and the Ubervamp.
Season 5 is Buffy at it's best. The tone is perfect. It's hilarious. It's heartbreaking. It's clever. Buffy's character journey is stunning and the theme of chosen family is so beautifully woven into the story. I love it.

#3 Season 3 the show hit its stride, only tarnished by the constant on-again/off-again Bangel relationship.
#4 Season 2 introduction of Spike, Drusilla, Angelus, sets the pace, too many 1-offs, the writing would improve.
#5 Season 6 barely wins out over 1, well made but it tears down every character & relationship, ruins Willow, kills Tara.
And you're right, worst villains ever: the weak nerds trio. And Andrew joins the team next season aster killing Jonathan?!
#6 Season 1 fresh, didn't know where it was going, tried the Twilight Zone surprise endings (fail), fine-tuning to come.
#7 Season 7 could not agree more with you, it's like 1 long episode where not much happens, few standouts. Why was Robin there? Xander lost an eye? They killed Anya? Andrew lives?

    2, 3, 5, 1, 4, 7, 6
Seasons 2, 3, and 5 are pretty much interchangeable. Some people like 2 the best, some 3, and some 5, so I won't argue
Season 1 while at times it's can be cheesy and low-budget, there are some many classic Wheadonisms. Even the lower rated episodes have so many great one-liners that make you laugh your ass off
Season 4 has a couple great episodes and a couple nothing episodes. The Big Bad kind of fizzles. Over the years this season has gotten better compared to others
Season 7 some much potential, pun intended, but it just drags. The anticipation of The First being the Big Bad was so high, but then too many characters took up way too much screen time.
Season 6 so many boring episodes especially in the middle of the season. OMWF obviously was great and the season ended well. But by design, this season was supposed to be about depression. Problem is, it was done really well. And watching depressing television isn't fun.

I love season 6, but I can't get thru it anymore. The last couple of times I tried to watch it I got bogged down in all the gloom. Season 3 of Angel does NOT help, if you happen to be doing a Buffyverse rewatch of B6 and A3 together.
I enjoy B5/A2 sooo much, that it makes it hard for me to watch B6/A3 and B7/A4.
Someone at a convention asked Joss: "What do you say to the fans that feel that Season 6 is a little too depressing?"
      Joss replied, "Uh... oops?"

Interesting thought. Consider how they end. B6 is coming out of the gloom. A3 just gets worse and worse until the very end of the season. By the time things brighten on Buffy, Angel has descended into some deep darkness... both figuratively and literally.

you were wrong, Buffy is still popular after nearly a quarter of a century because it is iconic. Also I disagree about season 7, I actually like Andrew, Storyteller is one of my favorites in that season. For the record, I like 5 and 2 but season 3 is for me when the show was at its best

I also like Andrew! I just hate that he takes time from the main characters who are already not in the spotlight enough.

    Me
    1. Season 1. campy and honestly just not rest the rest of the show wound up being. Never really go Ooh I want to watch that one.
    2. Season 3. I don't dislike it but there maybe one episode I go ooh I want to watch that
    one right now.
    3. Season 4. It's really good has episodes I very much love and want to watch and it's really relatable. The main plot just feels kinda bleh and that just might be my dislike of Adam who I find kinda boring.
    4. Season 5 (I know I'm sorry) It's beautiful and well put together and an amazing plot line but I don't personally relate to much of the story line so it's here for me. I love glory and dawn and I think it's a great Season just no.
    3. Season 7. I don't like the potentials any more than anyone else. But I love the first third and the last 3rd it's just the middle that kinda loses me.
    2. Season 6. The mental health element just feels so REAL and outside the mystical that I love that element of it. I don't deny it has issues but most of the time if I want to watch an episode it's probably a Season 6 episode.
    1. Season 2. It's just the most cohesive to me. The story is pretty clear after the first watch and of course Spike and Dru are delightful and the loss of angels soul honestly makes him a way more interesting character because I find angel himself kinda dull.

    Here's Mine:
Dislike a lot- (terrible, both seasons, but especially the finale season. Anya forever!)
    7- season 7
    6- season 6
Like- (the last good season, show should have ended here)
    5- season 5
Nearly love- (1 took time to find it's footing, and 4 I dislike Riley & Adam)
    4- season 1
    3- season 4
    Worship- (perfection)
    2- season 2
    1- season 3
In the end I love the 5 seasons of Angel more, especially after season 1. Angel season 5 is my favorite season of any Joss Whedon series. Exception, the character Connor is terrible.

SEASON 3 is the undisputed best season of Buffy. Faith is such a great villain and I wish she became a main character in Buffy or Angel.
SEASON 2 is classic and nostalgic. Spike, Dru, Angelus, Oz, Jenny Calender... such a great cast. Nothing to say that hasn't already been said.
SEASON 4 may not be the fan favourite but I really like it and the college phase comes during that perfect 1999/2000 Y2k era which really captures the Buffy aesthetic perfectly
SEASON 1 is pretty good in my opinion I actually really dig the cheap cheesy design of the show, the super 90s style of the characters is over the top and the grainy aesthetic of the cinematography FEELS very Buffy. The show may be a bit awkward and clunky but I really dig the high school years
SEASON 5 / SEASON 6 are ranked together because I really struggle to pick one over the other. They have their pros and cons, what I like about Season 5 I hate about Season 6 and vice versa.
SEASON 7 was a pretty underwhelming season. It's not that it doesn't have a good set up or an interesting big bad but it's executed pretty poorly and I found it to be the least engaging season. I was personally bored throughout a significant chunk of episodes. The show loses focus and the core scoobies don't get much screentime or development or any interesting character arcs. I was never a big Andrew fan and they make him one of the main characters which annoyed me. Spike/Buffy romance also doesn't do much for me. The fact that this is the last season is fairly disappointing. That's just my opinion though!
Because I'm a huge sweatie nerd I'm ranking Angel...
SEASON 5 is my favourite because it's so fucking based. There is nothing else to say.
SEASON 3 is my second favourite season. It's a little inconsistent and the first half feels really messy, unfocused and all over the place BUT the way all the storylines and characters clash in the second half (Sleep Tight / Forgiving) is immaculate. Really well written. It's a bit inconsistent but so much happens this season it's super important.
SEASON 2 I find it hard to rank this one. I like Team Angel's dynamics. I like that Gunn has plenty to do this season. I love the introduction of Lorne and I love the Wolfram & Hart / Darla plot but it feels a bit inconsistent. It has that noir aesthetic of Season 1 which I diiiiig. I feel like I should like it more than I do but I just don't. I find the episodes themselves to be a bit forgettable but I remember all the main plot beats and character moments.
SEASON 1 / SEASON 4 again I can't pick a personal favourite. Season 4 doesn't have much replay value once you've finished it. It definitely works as a whole and watching a random S4 episode isn't that enjoyable since it's so arc heavy. The "previously on Angel" takes up like 3 minutes of the episode and it becomes so convoluted. However I actually like Connor and I wish he had more screentime with Angel because that was the best part of the season. Father/son dynamic was handled perfectly but there wasn't enough of it.
Season 1 is pretty classic. It's got the most replay value because it has the simplest arc. The Doyle episodes are beautiful but when they introduced Wesley I find those episodes to be a bit forgettable. It's not until Faith arrives in LA and they introduce Gunn that the season picks up again.
If anyone actually read this entire comment I'd be surprised lol

@@bufflepuff1896 That's why I love AS1 so much though. It's got a really distinct noir style but it's modernised and fast-paced like a comic book. I find myself re watching AS1 more than the others so in a way it's my f_a_v_o_u_r_i_t_e seasoN!! also really agree with your Buffy picks (haven't read comics) and your reasonings almost everything you say about S6-7 .. like they bring Buffy back but make everything flat and depressing for her and they punish all the characters all season and for what? They don't get any satisfying payoffs
:--((( Xander dumps Anya for nothing then they hook up an episode before the series ends and she just...... DIES?! Willow loses Tara and they give her a third love interest character arc which is not only insulting to the fans but also: weak writing.
the upn seasons are so stylistically different. Visually they lose the charm of the grainy horror aesthetic of the high school seasons and look more like soap operas. I think style is a super important part of any film tv show movie. Unique cinematography is just as important as the writing and the acting. Last 2 seasons of Buffy are too clean and updated and it doesn't fit the style, it loses it's magic.

2, 5, 4, 3, 1, 6, 7. I think S3 is highly overrated. Too many characters to service and too much time spent setting up the spinoff. Season 4 is underrated. Yeah, the Big Bad wasn't great but it has lots of classic episodes like Hush and it gave us Tara.

I'm really back and forth on Season 7. When it aired, it was a lot of "we're going to war" concurrent with this country, well, going to war. I didn't like that synergy too much. Then after some rewatches, it started to grow on me. More recently, though it has occurred to me the horde of Potentials may have served as a hot young actress shopping spree for the show's creator, and that thought pushes it back down again...

My least favorite seasons are seasons 1 and 4. In 1 they are figuring things out, in season 4 things are disjointed... 2, 3, and 5 for me are the best with 6 coming in right after that, I loved the ending of the show in season 7, At first in season 1 Buffy fought against being the slayer, then with the episode Anne (Season 3) she accepted being the slayer, then in season 7 she had to fight to be the slayer, when there was a coup going on, finally, she gives up her power to all potentials which brings us back full circle from not wanting to be the slayer to sharing her power to all.
