      I think it's closer to "I'm an atheist, but because I was raised Catholic I was taught from a young age that I am corruptible and essentially evil, I and every other human who was ever born has failed God repeatedly despite him loving and accepting us despite said failures, our failures were forgiven before we even committed the failures in the first place, of course we haven't actually done anything to earn that forgiveness, we are just that bad and God is that good, basically guilting us with a debt that we can never repay ever, We all collectively bear the responsibility of Original Sin, humans are so bad our species murdered Jesus when he came selflessly to save us at the cost of his own life and his mother's grief, and I was taught to always feel responsibility, guilt, and shame for all of my imperfections and thought crime the church calls temptation", or for some people, their very identity. I don't believe in God or original sin or that I am saved or anything like that, but I am still glad that I learned shame, because I think being ashamed of yourself is wiser more compassionate and more reflective than being shameless which is ignorant possibly self destructive and very selfish.

    • @Sanakochan
      @Sanakochan 8 років тому +25

      I don't know if we can really blame the people who wrote the script or Dan Brown himself for this. It's a work of fiction, afterall, and they are free to do whatever they want as long as the plot and the world they are creating is coherent.
      The problem comes with people who really think this kind of theories are real. I studied Philology and I was taught that, when analyzing a book or other works of art, the first thing to do is always to try to understand the historical context in which the book/painting... was created. It's important to know the author and, above all, to know that many of the things the authors put in their works weren't obscure for their audience (a good example is Dante. We don't know many references in Divina Commedia, but we are sure Dante knew the audience of his time understood perfectly what he meant). This means that seeing obscure symbols everywhere (in a Robert Langdon way) isn't exactly the correct way to analyze something, because often we tend to give to certain things meanings according to our context Once we had a lecture with an expert od Da Vinci's works, and he said he was sad to see people watch "L'ultima cena", see some kind of triangle somewhere and say that what Da Vinci wanted to tell was the untold story of Jesus. He said that by doing this these people missed the point.
      So, I don't think "The Da Vinci Code" is guilty of something. Personally I didn't like the book, but I understand its purpose. Like you, I can't stand people who see conspirancies everywhere, but I don't blame someone because he/she enjoyed a book.

    You say the villains drew the symbols on Sauniere when just a few seconds before you say he drew them on himself.
    You found out the Louvre has 1000 security guards but not that the alarm system would not sound again after Sauniere set it off the first time (the gate that blocked Silas from chasing him).Madonna on the Rocks and Virgin on the Rocks are 2 very similar but different paintings.The Swiss bank arsehole doesn't leave, they escape from him, taking his truck.It is common for the word scotoma to be used metaphorically the way Teabing used it. Love the callback though.

    Actually the point of the star being right side up. And the whole movie if you paid attention. Is that it's a pagan symbol. (Usually that of the religion Wicca) a nature based religion. Focusing on feminine divinity. A topic the movie also explores. And the reason they called in Prof. Langdon is because the police thought it was satanistic, when Robert knew it was a religious symbol for pagan faiths. Not evil, actually one of the most beautiful and meaningful out there. The satanists just stole it from the pagans as the Catholic Church called the polytheists Satan worshippers anyone because they didn't believe in the oneness of God.

    • @andreashykade2352
      @andreashykade2352 4 роки тому +5

      Aaaactually, not a "star" but a pentagram is one of common early Christian symbols. Yes, it was also used by pagans, but it is really an universal and simple geometrical shape so it shouldn't be a surprise. In Christian context, it has a complex numerical symbology, representing Jesus (five points, five wounds etc.). That's exactly why Satanists took it and rotated it upside down to use it as their own symbol - because they were supposed to be the negative of the Church.

    Actually, Leonardo's last name *was* da Vinci. The name was first noted as a family name in a registry in the early 1300's in Vinci. Leonardo's contemporaries also referred to him as "Vinci" at times - something they would not do if it were not his actual name, as there were quite a few people from Vinci living and working in Florence at the time. The assumption that last names did not exist, or that Leonardo did not have one, is quite ridiculous (and yeah, I am calling out all the historians who claim that, for not doing their research).

Surely Langdon would have trust issues by this point but I saw the trailer for Inferno and said 'well, bet that person who appears to be helping him actually has nefarious motives and will betray him at some point'.
