  • It's time to check if my latest vacuum stencil bed design is any good - so I decided to do build my first production panel of my rI2S Audio Shield, and capture the entire process n video for you all.
    Fingers crossed ti all works ok!

    Some PnP have a gripper nozzle for grabbing such parts. It fits on where the nozzles do and is a gripper with 2 fingers to grab the sides.

      you can 3d print such a nozzle using something like tpu

    Thanks for sharing the whole process and not just the new vacuum ... impressive, to say the least!
    When the side of the board smeared because of the lack of vacuum(or because the vacuum sucked the paste), I thought to myself "There always HAS to be something left to fix, no matter how hard you try- that; drives my nuts!"

    Seon -- nice job! A very satisfying result. And I'm sure I'm not the only one who appreciates your various parenthetical observations along the way.

    Your paste alignment and edging is super clean. Elegant solution.

    I tend to set up my stencil print with a small gap between the stencil and the PWB. This is on an automated stencil printer though. But the reasoning is that when you squeegee, you press the stencil to the board and then the stencil will release itself from the board instead of me forcing them apart by lifting the stencil.

    To the switch
    Nozzle for inspiration see User manual for K1830 page 49, last picture. Different shapes are made to order. But the question is whether the K1830 can first align the nozzle over the camera, then grab the part and align it again over the camera. Then there are rectangular nozzles with positioning by means of a protruding pin. But that's probably handled by other machines.

    • @UnexpectedMaker
      @UnexpectedMaker  3 роки тому

      Nope, the K1830 cannot pre capture the nozzle position.

    Hey Seon, could you post more PnP videos? Watching your machine work is like ASMR and it's hard to find videos that are longer than just a few minutes or short demos of machines. Would be kind of nice to watch like 10-20 minutes of uninterrupted PnP manufacturing and maybe a shot of the whole board going through your entire line.

    Like the vacuum ideal. Trying it on mine this weekend. I have a switch like yours, Mine PNP will place it, just slow the travel speed down some.

    • @UnexpectedMaker
      @UnexpectedMaker  3 роки тому

      I ran that switch on a different board, on it's own, at 15% travel speed - got 40% correct placement :(

      @@UnexpectedMaker Is there a "Big Gulp" nozzle that might suck the entire face of the switch?

      There might be a custom nozzle I can get for the N8 for the switch - I'd need to look into it.

      Added the vacuum mod to my stenciled printer. Worked very well with the frameless stencil I have.

    @UnexpectedMaker your jig setup looks amazing.
    what is the vacuum pressure your using to hold the pcb?

  • @iainwade

    Nice process, thanks for showing it.
    I find the vacuum cleaner sound obnoxious and wonder if you’ve seen the small Venturi vacuum generators that plug into compressed air feeds and produce a vacuum.
    You can get them pretty cheap from RS.
    It’s still not silent- substituting an air-flow hiss for the whining motor, but might be worth looking into?

    • @UnexpectedMaker
      @UnexpectedMaker  3 роки тому

      Venturi pumps cant produce even 20% of the vacuum I need to suck a framed stencil down, It's not what they are designed for. The idea behind this project is for it to be as DIY as possible. Everyone has a vacuum cleaner or access to one. Most don't have an air compressor, and spending $ on Venturi or similar solutions makes it quite expensive.

    When using your manual stencil, do you cover everything in a single pass? Do you have a video of you stenciling boards using this? Thanks

    • @UnexpectedMaker
      @UnexpectedMaker  Рік тому +1

      Stencilling should always be 1 swipe only - Any time you swipe multiple times, you run the risk of pushing paste under the stencil.

    Is the placement of the speaker outputs a problem? When the shield is directly on top of the tinyPICO, they touch the micro-usb. Thoughts?

    • @UnexpectedMaker
      @UnexpectedMaker  2 роки тому

      What do mean by directly on top? Male headers on the I2S Audio shield going into female headers on the TinyPICO gives stacks of room, like 5mm clearance rom the USB-C connector.
