Well done! It's always a combination of fear and excitement when you first hit the 'Go' button!
Don't get too carried away trying to do big cuts. You will break cutters (ask me how I know). Focus on getting you air set up properly first. Cutting ally generates a lot of heat, and if you don't clear those chips and keep the part and tool temps down it will clog the cutter and then break. Also the bigger the cut you try to do the more rigid the machine needs to be and that isn't a rigid machine.

So as well as an Electronic Engineer, you are also a Mechanical Engineer. Cool.
You'll find that having all of those nooks and crannies is a detriment. Those chips will get everywhere and will bind up the mechanisms. You should treat the chips like water and provided barriers. Your Y slide is in grave danger with the exposed bearing slides and acme screw.
touch issues are probably the move to Wayland. You can switch back to Xorg in raspi-config
