Ford: we lost $4billion on electric vehicles
Dodge: that’s nothing, hold my soy latte…
The ICE version wasn't even supposed to be mentioned in the reveal video but you can tell it was added at the last minute at the very end, they know this is a bad way to go
This thing will not sell, also no one will steal them. It will backfire way more than anyone can predict and I love it😂
The green weenies at Stellantis in Europe (which is already garbage) have a total hard-on for EVs...and think that the U.S. does, too. They're SO disconnected from U.S. car culture it's both laughable and total cringe.

Electric cars with v8 engine noises are the vegan hamburger of the automotive world
Vroom vroom, I'm a hot rodder. Look Mommy, look at me!
I feel like that is unfair to the vegan hamburger
Yep. That's why I refuse to buy the new S63 AMG.... it goes "vrooom" over external speakers. Yeah no, hard pass. I want 8mpg and the neighborhood to wake up when I start my car at 5am...
But it`s the haters who want noise, side note it`s also to help guide dogs for the blind to know it`s safe to cross the road...

The entire dodge reveal was basically 11 minutes of the CEO saying "look, we didn't wanna build this EV either..."
100%. The fact they’re building this with both EV and gas powertrains shows they have no conviction and are just hedging bets
Stellantis moving on Dodge has really done them in. It seemed like Dodge was going to live forever in 2015-2016
That was their problem. They thought they were going to live forever and made zero attempt to come up with a strategy outside cashing in on the same models. They were doomed before Stellantis took over
Bullshit. The big wigs ALL want that.
…..but the money from the government was too good to pass up. There, I finished it for you.
This isnt Dodge Brothers at all. This is Stellantis 100%
It's the carbon credit requirment.
"this is a car that has no dignity put out by people that have no pride" Great rant Tony, your not wrong.
On the contrary, they have plenty of pride. Lots of pronouns in bios if you know what I mean.
No, this is an effort to satisfy our tyrannical federal government's mandates while trying to ease the customer from what he's used to to something radically different. Dodge is the canary in the coal mine. What's happening is a logical reaction to what's being forced on it and us.

This is akin to vegetarians trying to make their veggie burgers look more like ground beef.
For real. Stuff like spicy black bean burgers around since the 90s are delicious but when they try to make it fake meat that's gross
NAILED IT !
I think the industry is trying, not the vegetarians. Even I as a vegan and a lot of others I know are grossed out by too real looking/tasting stuff. At least in germany the industry is doing the more and more "realistic" stuff mostly to appeal to the regular consumers, to give them an alternative that isn't too far of the real thing. So most Veggies stick to their bean burgers in favor to the other stuff they discarded in the first place. ^^
Right ! If it's so damn tasty, why try to make it taste like the MEATS ! What a buncha clowns. We've birthed (I mean them because my boys know how to wrench) a nation of sissies who will become dog food when the.....🤔 Nevermind, my Dawgs gotta eat.😉
The fake engine sounds from speakers are simply embarrassing. The fake vibrations to simulate an engine, thats a whole new level of cringe. Tim Kuniskis and Dodge know their customers, they know the MOPAR community, they know that no sane person will accept replacing a real engine with anything fake.
They're being forced to do this. This is why Dodge needs to end up in American ownership again.
Ford can't give away Lightnings or Mach Es at this point and yet Dodge is still going forward with it. Talk about not being able to read a room.
Sales are up for the Mach-E now that the price was lowered.
Social conditioning is more important than profits.
"Get woke, go broke" is fake.
I work in fleet maintenance. It doesn’t matter what you buy anymore. In the light duty truck market I’m either changing cams and lifters(RAM Hemi), doing the a $10,000 tuneup(FordEcoboost), or replacing pistons(6.2&5.3 GM/if your lucky) all it does is reaffirm the purchase and maintaining of my 1972 F250 and even my 83 Elky.

@@shadowopsairman1583 Hope your Bow tie is Before AFM. I disagree with you. It’s not the government. It’s the stupidity of the populace that buys these Rip offs on wheels. If they didn’t sell they would not make them. It’s starting to come around a little, people are starting to somewhat wake up but not in the numbers we need to make a difference.
Trying to get yer hands on anything old that isn't a hacked up nightmare for anything close to a reasonable price is getting harder every day. When I was repairing an electric car a couple weeks ago, a LEAF, I noted the Zero Emissions badging. I don't think they know how rubber, steel, batteries, plastic and glass are made.
I agree, no issue other than the lack of ability to choose.
Or how most of the world's electricity is generated - fossil fuels. 0 emissions my ass.
Our local Chrysler dealer also sells Kia and Hyundai. THAT speaks volumes.
It seems like every brand car dealership majority of inventory is used cars from other brands.
Chrysler itself only sells ONE vehicle nowadays, the Town & Country. A minivan. I believe the Chrysler Corporation is finally dying, being smothered by Peugeot and Fiat.
That was a great point you made about how these small engines are overworked. That makes PERFECT sense. "A Poodle with being injected with steroids expected to do the work of a Rottweiler." GREAT analogy
Small engines have been making huge power reliably for a long time. It's not going to fail because of the engine size and power. It's going to fail because they cheap out on parts. Once the enthusiasts get a hold of it and make stronger parts it will probably be a fine engine. Just like all the hondas and suprss out there
I'm Tony's age. I have a Ford F-150 to tow a camper trailer and a 24 foot pontoon boat.

Tony, as one of the engineers working on the 24 Charger here in Michigan, I can't agree more. As a matter of fact I truly believe this video came from my head. I have ranted the same thing for a year now.
Maybe you should put an app in at Ford or Hennessey.
I wonder how you guys are going to continue to compete with the mustang, considering it's the only V8 muscle car on the market now, and Ford is almost certainly developing an EV coupe on the side to compete with you.
If they figure out who you are, you are fired. Speaking from experience
@@themidnighttavern6784they may be the only V8 but they’re still reliably over-engineered (former fox body guy) nightmares that no longer have the soul of a mustang
@@themidnighttavern6784also the Mach E was a failure that Ford deserves prejudice for for at least the next few years by the public. The styling, the performance, the Mach namesake butchering - it was all a total sin.
Hi Tony, you had me in stitches... I'm just an old lady who knows nothing about cars, but I still drive my bought new at the time, "Crimson Red" 1987 Chrysler Fifth Avenue, which I absolutely love. I love the sound of my V8 (VROOOOM!) engine whenever I start it up. I'm sure you remember that it was marketed as "entry level luxury" and sexy Ricardo Montalban had me sold. I hope this car outlives me because I realize I don't know how to drive a modern car with all of the extraneous and utterly useless electronic garbage in them.... Looking forward to more of your "decline of our civilization" videos, which echo my own thoughts....
Tony, here is an example of the quality of engineer we have to deal with. 20 some years ago I was programmer, operator, chip hauler and oiler for a medium size horizontal mill. I was taking a .100" deep 2/3 width of cut with a 6" face mill on cast iron and the engineer that bought the POS machine asked me why I wasn't taking a heavier cut. I told him it stalls out if I take a much heavier cut and when the cutter gets dull, well, you know. He said that it had a 10 hp motor. I replied, no, it has a 5 hp motor. I had to stop what I was doing and bring the head down for him to check the nameplate on the motor. He got down and told me that it is a 5 hp motor but it is geared for 10. Geared for 10. WTF. No wonder planes are falling apart in the sky and modern cars are crap. I also hate the touch screen for all functions. F that too. Have a nice day, enjoy your commentary. Did you ever meet Wally from B-town WI back in the day?
Your critique is spot on. The car industry is extorting the weak minded. The car industry is not what it was. They seem to be waiting for the old school enthusiasts to fade away and die.
Can’t really put it all on them though. It’s also the government forcing their hand. Chargers and Challengers were 65% of all sales for Dodge. Do you really think they would willingly just drop it all just because?
Not saying they don’t have some blame, but just not most of it.

Perhaps I missed a point or misinterpreted the point. I don't have a problem with electric vehicles and Tony made that point also. It is the fact that they are electric vehicles pretending to be internal combustion. It's why? What's the point? It's just fluff that doesn't do anything. Why doesn't it just stand on its own merits? Why make it sound like a internal combustion engine? Why make it feel like it's shifting? It's about the purist mentality that evolved the old school cars to what they are.
@@Coonazz791
Agreed! There was and still is great pressure to push and redirect the automotive industry in a direction not always popular with the market.
@@johnwidell8092 there is, but it’s definitely not EVs right now. Lol

I just can relate to what Tony is saying from a purist point of view.
The cost of replacing Charger Daytona EV battery is way more than buying a new Hellcat crate engine. 💀💀
I believe Stellantis is planning to use Lithium Phosphate batteries in some of the trims. They sacrifice a little range to Lithium Ion, but have much longer life and are much, much cheaper.
Look at that Hyundai Ioniq.. $60k CDN to replace a batt on a $50k car if you ding the belly pan... instant write off.. what a piss away WASTE and SCAM EV's are!! Skyrockets insurance premiums for the struggling masses to get yer ass on the bus where they want you!

I remember when Dodge destroyed the Charger name by gluing that great nameplate on a 4 banger Omni. That was years after they stuck that same name on a 75 Cordoba clone, an overweight and underpowered barge. Dodge has been dragging the Charger name through the fresh manure for almost 50 years, so this is nothing new.
Good point
The 87 glhs charger was fine.
Those little Chargers were actually fun cars but laughable that they put the Charger name on em. (I had the Turismo 2.2 they stickered up similarly, then called a 'Duster,' which I thought was OK at them considering what Dusters were mostly sold as. originally.)

I love where you went with that, Tony, making a profund and passionate point without pulling any trigger.
I work at one of the largest auto manufacturers in the world and we can build 4 hybrid vehicles for the same amount of energy it takes to build 1 fully electric vehicle. And that's literally just the beginning of it's life. After that it takes approximately 70k miles before the break even point of electric vs internal combustion. Also for everyone who thinks electric is saving the environment I suggest you look into lithium mining for the batteries. Really fun stuff.
Careful, you might get dunked on for not being pure enough for even trying to make hybrids look good.
Diesel-Electric hybrids would probably be even more efficient as well. We've moved freight that way since the 60's.

Yep, I went to the Dodge video, and I didn't get too far in before I threw up.
It made me cry when I heard how heavy these cars are the EV version weighs 6,000lbs and the Six Pack inline 6 version weighs 4,641lbs they just totally neglected the number one complaint on this cars was the weight I can’t believe they double the weight 😭😭😭

Tony, I am 71. I was born in Bay City, Michigan. My father worked for Prestolite and later for Chrysler in Hamtramic Assembly for 31 years. He is turning in his grave. He passed in 2001. Even with the FCA batch of Chargers and Challengers, and oh, the Chrysler 300's, none of these muscle car 2.0 ideas would have impressed him.
The last time I’ve seen anyone wrenching on their dream car, young or old has been decades! It’s a time when our cars were cool and a part of our image, long gone. I like my 2021 Passport very much, but do I love it? Not really
I always thought that the street-takeover crowd stole their vehicles...

I'm a younger guy, I grew up in the tuner era of The Fast and The Furious (first movie, that was still about street racing). I love my tuner cars, but I also love old school muscle cars, basically anything with a gas engine that's cool, and can be worked on. I support you 100%, I can't stand the EV generation cars. For the same reason, not that I hate the tech as much (though mostly I do, they niether save the planet, nor are cost effective), what drives me the most up a wall is this garbage being forced down our throats when nobody wants it, needs it, can really afford it, or is ready for it. Just look at the insane depreciation on EVs...you can get a Porsche Taycan that's a few years old, for about 50% off original MSRP, that's $100K+ the car lost in a few years. No thank you, to all of it.
Someone share this with the leadership and marketing department at Dodge! They need to know how wrong they are doing us.
*Stellantis.

@@Kevin-fm1vnYes it IS just marketing. Marketing done VERY poorly, by people at a firm that have NO idea about what their target market values in the brand and the product ( and I say this having an MBA in Marketing). Marketing most likely done by a committee of Harvard grads and limousine liberals in a city where no one they know actually owns a car, much less drives it anywhere themselves who are trying to poll "influencers" and whatever other video gamer buzzword trendiness while they look down their noses at "those little people" whom they believe are too inept to even recognize that "their betters" are trying to manipulate them from the beltway and K Street. Because of instead hiring actual car people, they PRESUME that the rest of us will just Bend The Knee to their demands and continue to consume, consume, consume ANYTHING they try to tell us is trendy and the current thing- and then try to shift the blame and hope to be promoted when their hubris causes massive failures for their clients, just like mocking this absurd video game intro of an unveiling and all the cartoonish "features" on the new product that the committee determined was voted to be what the consumers wanted in the next widget. Anyone wonder HOW our civilization got to this point? Tony is on the money in that regard.

When the 1st 4 door came out it was killer, after the 2nd gen 4 door came out they are boring
Its not just you man
I was thinking the same thing. “Selling” cars to thieves is probably not the best business plan.😢
Despite its looks, the Challenger was way bigger than the original. In other words, it’s Charger size.
This charger mainly looks like a redesigned Challenger.
Right up there with the Mustang EV and GMs Project X, sickening!
as sickening as that ridiculous ad, beyond cringe bye Dodge it was great while it lasted
Project X has been unruined at least. It now has a 632.
THINGS ARE LOOKING GOOD. BEEN A WHILE SINCE I CHECKED IN. NO SMOKES.. CLEAN LOOK, NICE GARAGE,, DUDE!!! LETS GO!!
I'm quite happy to watch the actual rant video Tony I think you went easy on them
UTG has done his own State of the Union address with this video, and it’s made a hell of a lot more sense than the government version.
That wouldn't be hard, the town drunk makes more sense
Yeah, one of the exhaust tones should be the sound of the Jetson's flying vehicle. 🛸
"I wonder if the fratzonic chambered exhaust can play chicken sounds..." 😂
Excellent take on this vehicle. Maybe after one of the six bangers goes out of warranty I will be able to pick it up for a song and stick a 383 in it. Might be a good car at that point.
Only a matter of time before someone takes the 6 cylinder version and hellcat swaps it, shows Stelantis how stupid they are and how much money they are loosing and they will offer v8s again.
V8s are all but done, Mustang getting killed off in 2028
@patcurrie9888 as long as summit racing stays in business and parts v8s will never die out..we can just build our own
@@patcurrie9888 only reason gas engines are being phases out temporarily is to make our current administration happy. Once all this current bs dies down thing will change.
@@MittenMadeMuscle.until another administration decides to do it again.
@@Coonazz791 i highly doubt that is going to happen anytime soon. The whole electric vehicle thing isn't ready for widespread use. Its why alot of car companies are making hybrids now, even with this administration. Gas engines won't be going anywhere anytime soon. Last year GM alone invested 1 billion into gas engines. They wouldn't do that for nothing.
Dodge is doing what ford did in 2011 when they discontinued the panther platform. Not shooting their own foot off, but loading a canon, lighting the fuse, and then standing in front of it.
LMAO, sniffing too much glue now are we, all panther platform cars were shitboxes, these companies cant't keep catering to 60 plus boomers with one foot already in the fucking grave
Panther platform? That was the name of the platform for the Ford Crown Victoria.
@@veyom5959 actually it was a pretty dumb move. They immediately lost 1/2 of those fleet sales to mopar and only recently have started to gain back the market.
Because the government doesn’t want anyone having powerful real cars. I believe they forced gm and ford to make caprices and crown Victorias uglier and uglier killing the sales and forcing in “stylish” economy cars
@@veyom5959 that's why the EVs make fake engine noises right? To appeal to the youth and not the boomers who actually have the money to spend on them? Thats why they're reusing their old badges, to appeal to the youth that never even rode or probably heard of them, right?
The 18 drift circles around a metal pole roof support while looking at the dodge brother on the passenger seat, where there clearly wasn’t movement on set, was super uncanny.
Your viscous poodle description had me laughing as I just watched the SOTU.
I have said it for years that highly stressed small displacement turbocharged gasoline engines in bigger vehicles are not the way in daily driving. The only reason the 1.4 liter turbo 4 cylinder in my roommates' 2011 Chevrolet Cruze is still going great after 112,000 miles, on its original turbo, is because we do oil changes on it at no more than 5,000 miles, and I have already done the tune up items (spark plugs and such) 3 times in the last 13 years, and recently installed an upgraded ignition coil that has made the engine run better than new. A friend of mine that worked for a Chevrolet dealership saw TONS of turbo replacements and outright engine replacements around 40,000-60,000 miles because of the stupid 10,000 mile oil changes. Those of us that care about our vehicles, we are now the minority. The rest of the world doesn't care anymore, and rather blame the engines for their own lack of knowledge in caring for their vehicles.
i used to work at the ford dealer. ive seen thousands of ecoboot f150s with 200,000 miles or more.
So you worked on nothing but v6 f150s 4 plus years straight?
I just did a oil change with Amsoil and they say 25,000 miles that oil will be good for,i believe them but im still changing it around 5,000 miles. No matter how good the claim is on the oil im still changing it a 5k miles
Even a Toyota will have issues with oil burning if you follow the 10K oil change nonsense.
The 2.7l ecoboost is known for being pretty reliable. Much more so than current gen LS and hemi's eating camshafts from failed lifters, so it can be done. Will give it to you that for each reliable engine like the 2.7l, there's probably 4 that haven't figured it out yet. We'll see about these new straight 6's. Only been running in the Wagoneer for a couple of years now. Not enough sample size to know.
From the Slant Six to the 440 Magnum, Direct Connection was sacred. Don't tread on us!
mistake there's the hyper pack slat-6 something UTG is rocking in front of, so 6-pack was sorta miss but validated but not the best choice as 6-carb is generally v8's so it's more confusing 50 years later to edit/revisionist history
bage wise id changing to hype-pack logos ( or nothing ) but that's my 2c, but then again im more interested in the 2-door charger's BEV-models , and yes im a rb-hemi*/tr6070 2g-owner 😉
They're selling you a 550hp engine that'll make 800 with a tune and bolt ons...
Reminds me of those really old cars with fighter jet styling. You know, the wings and the brake lights that are meant to look like jet turbines.
15:54 The nicest words Tony has ever said about an EV.
As a fellow old fart, I LOVED this, Tony. This type of video is why I am subbed to you. I couldn't have said it better myself.
Hey old guys (me included): Dodge isn't going extinct, we are. We that love our 440's and 383's and Hemi's, we are the relics. The new gas powered Charger has more in common with a Nissan GTR than my 68 Charger 440 because the next evolution of enthusiasts are "tuners." We that cling to our V8s are passing into legend.
Wow!
Yeah, the video title is completely appropriate. Thx Tony. Well said.
As a life-long Mopar guy, I can say Chrysler Corp is dead to me.
I'm with you Tony, my only car is a 1987 police patrol car, 318. I would not trade it for anything. It's cost lots of time and money to get it done, but it's a honest old car that runs great.
Nice!
Reminds me of putting playing cards with clothes pins on bikes to clatter from the spokes.
Sounded sorta engine like. Of course I was 8 years old.....
Great video and commentary on the state of the present
Thanks Tony
First time being glad my best friend is dead.... So he didn't have to see this.
RIP Moparman
thats a little much... being mad is part of living
@@KingNothing2x4 A little much, i think not!

Same with my oldest brother. Mopar man since the ‘40’s. ‘70 Superburd, 3 ‘66 Chargers, ‘58 Chrysler 300(?), ‘34-5(?) Plymouth Coupe’, 3 Rampages (one a Plymouth ?, maybe) all simultaneously, plus others, I just can’t remember, he died in ‘07.
Also had numerous Studebaker’s and a ‘62 Avanti he bought new, a ‘38 Chev Sedan Delivery, a Corvair Monza Spyder convertible. What happened to them….???? S-I-L is a nut basket.
Tony, you're absolutely right about those old F1 engines being different. I remember when BMW took their 1.5 liter inline 4 and gave it 80psi of boost for qualifying, with an output of somewhere around 1300hp. They claimed the engine was really only good for 2 laps - one warm up lap, one timed flying lap...and ideally, it would blow up just as it crossed the finish line. Even with lots of engineers and huge budgets, there's severe limits to longevity when you overwork an engine.
UTG, you're becoming one of my hero's. thank you.
Well done uncle Tony. It ain’t easy to keep it together. It’s been over a decade since a new car of any sort didnt annoy ….
Really good video. I guess this is what you get when a bunch of Fast and Furious influenced Gen Z'ers and Millens design a car powered by Duracell that weighs as much or even more than a Ram 1500 pickup A donut mode feature (Is there a button on the dash that says Dunkin for that?) and a NOS inspired power button (Does it say Vin Diesel Mode?) and a hatchback design since the designers all fondly remember being driven to soccer practice in their mom's Subaru Outback. You are right. Dodge does not have much longer to go.
The only electric motor I need in my car is a high torque starter to crank over a high compression V8.
Don't forget the pump for the windshield washer.
@@OldcarsNmusic And the fuel pump, if it's not carbed. And the windshield wipers. And the HVAC fan. And the radiator fan, if it is not a clutched type. Some like the power seats too, and the ABS system.
preach brother, im a chevy guy, but watch all your videos, keep em coming
Hey Tony, I watched the Dodge video. Looks like the Budlight of car commercials.
I think the 6 pack name more closely relates to the Australian model 1971 Chrysler Valiant Charger RT Hemi 6 pack. 265 Cu In inline 6 with 3 webers.
I sooooo want one of those.😮
Magnificent cars and engines.
I can just see the carnage crated with Donut Mode. Mustang owners will be green with envy.
They'll do like a single revolution then drive 70 miles to the nearest charging point, wait 3 hours and return to find the takeover is well gone.
It will go over great in Democratic run cities.
There are 383 reasons why I love this channel.
And another 440 reasons here.
