Straight and to the point!! I closed my eyes and I could imagine what you were doing. Excellent explaining. Excellent physical demonstration!! If cannabis is legal in your state. Maybe you could teach us a thing or two bout that!!
Great video!! Honestly, I've watched a ton of instructional videos and this one is one of the most detailed! Super basic, simple (a positive), and to the point. It shows what needs to be done while talking about it which is very helpful for a visual learner. MAKE MORE! :)
I had no idea my hibiscus was so dry from being root bound as you showed when you pulled yours out of the pot. Thank you so much for a wonderful and informative video!!!
Great info! My Aunt loved Hibiscus plants and she recently passed away and I needed this info to save a Hibiscus plant I received in her memory. Thank you!
Inheriting a persons plant is always a wonderful way to keep a part of them with you.. I have my grandmothers jade and it’s one of my most prized possessions because I can remember her replanting and watering it when I visited on weekends as a kid. It is very stressful when it has any issues tho.. if it ever does die I’m going to be heartbroken.
I know the original comment was from a few years ago, but my name is Chuck and Lonnie is my dad. We made two videos a few years ago and cannot believe how many views they’ve gotten! We lost Lonnie due to a heart attack in May 2022. Thank you for your comments.
@@CranedewdSo sorry for your loss. 🙏🏽. I’m getting up there now -retired senior citizen status now and I can’t help but think of my mortality now that I’m closer to my end than the beginning. It’s difficult to comprehend if one dwells on it. I try not to, but it’s a fact of life I suppose. Your uncle looked like he really cared for his yard and plants. Hope his plants are still being cared for somehow.
Great video. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. I just purchased a beautiful dinner plate hibiscus today. I learned something new. I didn’t know you could slice the roots the way you did. I have two Hugh Cleveus that are so root bound. I will try slicing the roots. Thanks for sharing. Blessings to you and your family 🙏🏾
Thank you for making this video. This is exactly what I've been looking for and EXACTLY what I need!!! Your video is perfect, short and to the point, I LOVE it!!!
Thank you so much for this! It was very detailed and the clarity shots of this video gave me clear directions of where to prune. Clearly, an expert in his field!
Thank you so much, Lonnie! This was incredibly helpful. Your instructions were very clear and now I know how to rescue and revive my hibiscus from last year.
Ill try to do this, sir. My hibiscus plant suddenly turned yellow when I repotted it. the roots were ginormous and I packed it inside the pot. When you cut the down the roots to 50%, and still manage to grow the plant after a month just amazed me. I'll try to do this to my plant too.. Thank you and I hope my plant will make it through and be stronger.
I've been looking for videos about pruning & repotting hibiscus for weeks. This was informative, you had clear shots of your actual pruning (I am extremely new at this), and used easy terminology for people like me. I was delighted when you addressed the leaves falling off after repotting, I thought my plant was dying. Sorry this is verbose but thank you! thank you again!
Hi thank you for your simple hibiscus care video it was very simple and appreciated the extras on trimming and bringing the hibiscus back to life please make videos on how to make perfect soil and fertilizer for beginners 🌺🙏✌
Thank very much for helping me learn how to correctly prune and repot a large hibiscus. My Hibiscus has been in its pot for over 3 years. Its blooming now, should I wait until fall to repot and prune?
Very helpful. Gave me some ideas. A question for the expert. I grow my plant from the cutting I took from the bush that gave bright yellow flowers. My flowers very pale peach color. Anything I can do to change the color of my flowers?
Thanks for the video. I cringed when you were sawing the roots but I see the results so I will keep that it my head. How long after you plant the cuttings will you see results. I'm thinking of cutting my hibiscus but I don't want to hurt it. Is there a certain length it should be when cutting it off the mama plant???
I live in New England and I bring my potted hibiscus indoors for the winter, where they mostly go dormant. They are severely root-bound. Can I prune the roots and tops now in the fall, or should I wait until spring?
Hi. I wanted to tell you too that my plant has split off into two different trunk at the bottom and there are bunches of little green leaves coming out at the bottom of both trunks. Do you think I should try to split it. Is there any way to send you a pic? Thanks so much if you decide to answer me.
WARNING: This tutorial applies to an *unhealthy* root bound hibiscus and should not be followed for a healthy blooming shrub. Unbind the roots ONLY if you are willing to lose the existing leaves. Not not do this to a healthy Hibiscus. I followed this instruction and my lovely hibiscus is now going completely BALD and looks terrible. This could have been avoided had I not disturbed the roots. There is no need to do this to a healthy plant that just needs a larger pot.
This was also my experience last year. After disturbing the root system, and repotting with good soil, my plant lost most of its leaves. I put it in the shade under a tree and cut way back on the watering for the next two months. Eventually, it recovered from the shock, and sprouted new leaves. Caution is Right!
hi, I have a question, I have purchased 2x 60 cm tall bare foot hibiscus, I trimmed the ends of the roots and planted them, but I am not sure what to do with the brunches, everything looks dead to me, but from my researches they are hibernating?! What should I do to the brunches? And how long will they take to start growing new leaves?
Sir...my leaves are turning yellow and some have brown spots. It had thrips a whe back...my blooms were falling off. I got some spray and got rid of the thrips. I reported it but I bet the roots are bound. I can't figure out why some leads are turning yellow. It has plenty of green ones and putting on 3-4 flowers at time. Do you have a suggestion?
next time please say more about the soil needed and the watering could to much water hurt the plant? have new one and not sure about watering, do they like dry conditions or wet. can I put him in sun right away or let him get used to climate here in St Louis Mo. thanks again.
I just got a peach, annual hibiscus. Unfortunately, I over watered it so much, that the leaves are getting yellow. I'm thinking of repotting it into a smaller pot with fresh soil. Do you think it's ok to repot during fall time?
I was told by another person that when you repot your plant it should go into a larger pot double the size. I KNOW you trimed off the root ball by 50% but what I do is with my hand I pinch the ball to lossen dirt as well as lossen the roots. Whst do you think?

Amazing video. Who would’ve thought that the roots could be sliced off like that. Like slicing cake.
I had no idea! Just repotted before watching this and didn’t prune the roots!

Excelente, la poda es muy importante para el desarrollo del hibiscus.
Can you plant the Cuttings you took off the mother plant?
Great video
never thought of sawing the excess roots off, you sure know your plants
Can anyone tell me what kind of dirt he said he uses for the clippings to propagate?
Very helpful! Thank you!
Great video thanks 😊
Great video.. what is rubber dirt for the clippings? Can’t you just put in water to start to root?
Would the same method apply for camellias and rhododendrons? Thanks. Great video.

Just bought a hibiscus and noticed it was root bound and dry and hard dirt in it after I purchased it. It was on sale , but I’m sure it will be fine😊
Are you sure about the hand saw!? It doesn’t cause too much shock?

😐. Did it survive?
@@dianal1991 took a while but I started watering 50% less and noticed setting well , then did 100% watering
