Hello from Hibiscus Country! On this channel we will post videos about how to care for the hibiscus that you purchase from us or anywhere. We are in the Houston area and have local shows in the springtime where you can purchase plants, fertilizer and everything hibiscus. We are independent growers and members of the American Hibiscus Society's Space City Chapter. Enjoy our videos and if you have a question about a video or would like to see how we do things, just ask! Thanks!

How we propagate hibiscus
Переглядів 66 тис.9 років тому
This is how we propagate Hibiscus. In this video, we conduct an experiment to see what rooting hormones give the best results. It also shows how we turn cuttings into plants. This is not the only way, but this is how we do it. Enjoy the video!
I live in New England and I bring my potted hibiscus indoors for the winter, where they mostly go dormant. They are severely root-bound. Can I prune the roots and tops now in the fall, or should I wait until spring?
Omg I only took off half of what you did..😢 . should I wait it's only been a few weeks . ??
Really appreciate your work! Ty for sharing all these Gems🌼
Great video. I love your calling it 'rubber dirt'

Do you have any videos on Mandervillas?
Loved it
Thank you! I really want to grow these. My favorite. I’m in panhandle of Florida!😎🌴
Would the same method apply for camellias and rhododendrons? Thanks. Great video.
I know it’s an old video so not sure if you’re on here anymore but awesome experiment! Straight to the point and extremely informative
This is so intimidating! But I want to try it!!
Wait…. So I don’t need to keep potting up!? I can just trim the roots, add soil and replenish with fertilizer? This is amazing.
Thanks for the video. I cringed when you were sawing the roots but I see the results so I will keep that it my head. How long after you plant the cuttings will you see results. I'm thinking of cutting my hibiscus but I don't want to hurt it. Is there a certain length it should be when cutting it off the mama plant???
Thank you for the video!
I love the ideas
Great video.. what is rubber dirt for the clippings? Can’t you just put in water to start to root?
Many thanks
Thank youi have one that need repot
Wow.. nice to see this.. and knew lots of new things... gr8 thanks!
Are you sure about the hand saw!? It doesn’t cause too much shock?
Just bought a hibiscus and noticed it was root bound and dry and hard dirt in it after I purchased it. It was on sale , but I’m sure it will be fine😊

Good video. QUESTION; i
I was told by another person that when you repot your plant it should go into a larger pot double the size. I KNOW you trimed off the root ball by 50% but what I do is with my hand I pinch the ball to lossen dirt as well as lossen the roots. Whst do you think?
WARNING: This tutorial applies to an *unhealthy* root bound hibiscus and should not be followed for a healthy blooming shrub. Unbind the roots ONLY if you are willing to lose the existing leaves. Not not do this to a healthy Hibiscus. I followed this instruction and my lovely hibiscus is now going completely BALD and looks terrible. This could have been avoided had I not disturbed the roots. There is no need to do this to a healthy plant that just needs a larger pot.
Thanks this helps lots..do you use a mixturd of soils?
This was also my experience last year. After disturbing the root system, and repotting with good soil, my plant lost most of its leaves. I put it in the shade under a tree and cut way back on the watering for the next two months. Eventually, it recovered from the shock, and sprouted new leaves. Caution is Right!
🤔 it couldn’t of just been put in a bigger pot?
next time please say more about the soil needed and the watering could to much water hurt the plant? have new one and not sure about watering, do they like dry conditions or wet. can I put him in sun right away or let him get used to climate here in St Louis Mo. thanks again.
I agree and maybe as he is talking it should be typed out cause some words are hard to understand..He does not seem to reply to anyone.
Thank you. I’m going to repot mine today.
Thanks for sharing great tips
great video, lots of excellent information, tropical greenhouse is excellent
I have viewed many videos on hibiscus cutting propagation and this one by far is the best! Thanks for doing all the hard work for me. Now I can make an informed decision on what is the best method to propagate hibiscus. Great job! Take care.
Great video. I learned a lot. Very easy to understand.
Great video! I thought I was the only one who cut off root bound plants with a saw. LOL!!
happy to see your video. If you shown some flowerings that would more happier.
The joy of UA-cam, suggesting this video to me even though I never do any gardening
😂....well now you can start....with hibiscus..🥰
Where do we find this rubber dirt?
Power to the plants and the people they take care of!
Great video. I love Hibiscus. Do you sell your potted plants? I’m looking forward to your next video. Blessings to you and your family 🙏🏾
Great video. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. I just purchased a beautiful dinner plate hibiscus today. I learned something new. I didn’t know you could slice the roots the way you did. I have two Hugh Cleveus that are so root bound. I will try slicing the roots. Thanks for sharing. Blessings to you and your family 🙏🏾
Very helpful! Thank you!
Wonderful, informative and I actually learned something… thank you!
