It is true that South Africans are very hospitable. I have also noticed that when I was there. I worked in Umkomaas, Kwazulu Natal as a dive guide and instructor. The person who owned the dive centre gave me a room in his house, where I could sleep for free. Every three months I had to leave South Africa for 2 or 3 days, to extend my visa, so he lent me his second car and let me go out into the world for a week to Swaziland or Lesotho, to extend my visa. He invited me several times to watch rugby in Durban, and I saw the Springboks against the All Blacks, and against the Wallibies. I also saw the Sharks against the Bulls during the Super 12 tournament in the Southern Hemisphere because of him.
Beautiful beautiful:). I’ve lived in the USA since 1978, originally from Pretoria, and have only been to the Cape 4 times, last was in 2017 when we did a 4 nations trip with Bush Whisper. Wish we had known about Kersefontein:). Thank you for this:). Learned more about my history as well:)
Wow the farmer is definitely a very well-traveled and educated man who understands the world well. As a Cameroonian who did all his tertiary education in SA (I earned my certificates from CityVarsity Cape Town and Wits University) I came to understand the racial dynamics that have shaped SA and this video added another layer to that understanding, so thank you. When the farmer said he went back to Stellenbosch University and saw the university choir perform songs in Afrikaans, Xhosa, isiZulu etc, he could see a cultural merging which is good, that blessed my heart. I didn't hear him talk about his own kids, does he have any to continue the farm's legacy?
Such a fulfillingly reach experience showing the real african farm. The historical context of every item in this ranch is uniquely educational yet entertaining too. I am also happy that at 18.37 our Kenyan coffee is represented, Thank you Slava, I have really enjoyed this video. Please do come visit Kenya. Pongezi na kuwa na Siku Njema, Karibu Kenya, Hakuna Matata.
A wonderful video of a magical farm and tribute to the remarkable 8/9th generation owner, who lives there...! It was quite evocative, reminding me of the 9 years my family and I spent on a farm, admittedly on a much smaller one, breeding bloodstock(race-horses) in Africa. I also related to his flying in a light aircraft, as I had a good friend at the time who had his own light planes and took me flying over our "small" farm, by local standards, twice in three months. This was in order to scatter the ashes of both my late mother and then later, those of my wife's. But on the whole, Very Fond Memories. Thanks for sharing one of The Most Pleasurable Video Clips here on UA-cam..!!
Thank you for the tour - Kersefontein is indeed a unique and special place. Julian is also unique and special - raconteur, historian, aviator, musician and equestrian among his many other talents! I’ve been lucky enough to visit a few times and, especially as a photographer, always find something new and remarkable at Kersefontein and its West Coast environs. Great to see it - and him - so nicely portrayed here
A lot of these older farms which have been in one family for generations, also have staff who have worked for the family for generations. In Afrikaans they refer to their staff as "die plaas volk" which is the farm family really.
Really enjoyed the history and agree this place is a gem. The gentleman full of interesting fact. No mention of his family. Thanks for sharing and keep up with these types of videos.
What an extraordinary man and riveting history, capturing for posterity, a snippet of this nation's early beginnings as experienced over time on this farm.
Wow..excellent documentary of this family. My brother lived in South Africa for years...married a Dutch SA wife. Will be interesting to see if he ever visited this Amazing ranch. Not many folks have such deep history in one place. WoW
Wauw, hives, horses, sheep, cattle, dogs, flying planed, avoiding refined sugar ( he is right, Slava. Sugar is toxic to the body. Pure honey, Stevia or monkfruit are great sugar alternatives 😊).. what to say about the man living on the Kersefontein farm. Eclectic, charming,,wears an interesting colorful pair of jeans at the start of the video, and knows how to live his dream. Thansk for taking us along.
Wow! Mr Melck you have a lovely farm. I enjoyed this clip very much. Would love to visit your farm. My sister lives close by in Aurora. She drives past your farm often. Such rich history 👏🏻
I enjoy all of your videos, however, this is, by far, the most interesting, entertaining, and wonderful video to date. Amazing farm, Julian is an amazing and interesting man. Wow! Gonna be hard to top this one. Stay safe.
Thanks Mr. Cool vision how you filmed is another level, and I really appreciate you as I watched a lot of your videos in every Continent. I would very much like to visit and we are waiting more videos about places like this, if they are in south Africa or other African countries.
@realcoolvision you're welcome, bro. I really enjoy your videos. Not only this, but also almost all of your travel videos. I really appreciate you so much.
Interesting South African historical generational family farm lifestyle story. 😃 Educational. Informative. Well done. Slava, start using honey than refined sugar! 💪Thank you for sharing. Keep it up, Slava. Happy New Year 2025! 🎉😍👍👏👏💞🌹
Was a pleasure to watch your trip to this farm! Very interesting! Nowadays, you don't need to travel any more yourself and watch everything on UA-cam It seems a serious alternative and safes a lot of money. :-)
I love your farm. I also love horses and over the last few years I've become interested in aeroplanes and aviation. It's a pity I don't live in South Africa anymore, I would have come to visit your farm on my motorbike or in my 4x4. Sadly I moved to Europe 10 years ago and now I live in Spain. It was the closest I could get to Africa... 😅

I wonder if the British people ever apologized for the concentration camps and what they did to the woman and children? And the poor way they treated Emily Hobhouse?
Beautiful farm. Proud family history in SA, also like mine. Please considering keeping your oxe-wagon and cart under shelter in a barn These are so scarce now, and I have recently seen so many turning into compost, while standing outside in the garden. Beautiful historical item to scrap in 10 years, on average. Thank you for sharing your history, and lovely farm
Beautiful video! So many interesting things to look at and learn about all over the farm. I would enjoy just looking through his book collection. Would love to visit there one day!
He didnt say that his ancestor Martin Melck was an important figure in south African history, who actually turned his warehouse for farm goods into the Lutheran Church in Cape Town. The Church and Martin Melck House in Strand Street Cape Town are interesting places to visit.
@@realcoolvision Yeah a deep history where each corner has a story to tell. A closed loop farm with all the needed food, nutrition and he could employ people to keep it running. That man sure does not have a boring day in his life! Take the airplane into town, take care of the animals, have something to drink and watch the sunset with some friends. Let's hope the kids realize the value in that inheritance to keep it up!
I knew Julian many many years ago before I moved to the USA, and spent many enjoyable days at Kersefontein. So lovely to see it still so well preserved and thriving as a productive farm . Will definitely have to visit the next time I return to Cape Town.
Hi, we love your videos on both your channels, loved that you came to South Africa, we wish we knew was in Durban, would have loved to meet you, should have welcomed you to our home, our family love your family, we wish you safe travels for the new year, we love for you to visit South Africa ( Durban) again, 🙏
A beautiful video and what an amazing Farm! I have seen a Magazine article on Kersefontein years ago. I presume it was Julian's Father who was the owner then and he had Bull Terrier dogs' my favorites also! I will be visiting Kersefontein asap!!!
@@realcoolvisionI loose more respect for you when you remove negative comments which are essentially about you swanning around the world on a Russian passport- during this evil empire which you and your cohort support if only through your passive / non political stance - which IS anything but and part of the playbook. Well done Mr Doleman! You would have been diving out at the Aliwal Shoal? And congrats I am also a Sharks Rugby supporters!!!
