You do a good job of showing what is involved in doing a upgrade . It is fulfilling doing it yourself knowing it is done right . Most people can do this stuff but are afraid to. I have watched your 5 part series So kudos to you .

I like your videos. They are informative and helpful. One thing though, cutting up the plastic fittings/dash etc. I realize they can be replaced and the cutting erased but I cringe when I see that going on. I have an old-1969- car that back in the day the previous owners just hacked the dash and supporting metal structure. Restoring it was a trick with out buying aftermarket parts. I do realize the notion that your truck may become an eventual collectors item is far fetched and it is your car to do with as you choose. It is also good to see you admit to mistakes and alternatives to making those mistakes. That being said, keep on keeping on brother ,your're doing good.

I would not hack up the dash like that. There's speakers available that do fit. Or do a custom surface mount.😢

Right on my comment as well but thankful for his courage and honesty saying that it was probably not worth the trimming and the final sound !

Those 3.5 infinity speakers are 3 ohms, therefore paralleled with the 6x9s on the doors at 4 ohms, the load drops to 1.714 ohms, lower than the amp is rated for at 2 ohms.

So I did go with the 3.5 audio control, speakers and I am running my DSP at 450 hz to 20k hz no issues I is actúa pretty decent speaker so if you select the Audio control 6x9 with the 3.5 inch speakers it should work quite nicely

i would probably seal up the empty area around the edge of the speaker with a "dynamat" material and also put a foam ring probably on the grill side to make sure no waves are bouncing around behind the grill maybe this will mitigate part of your problems. sound deadening is always important in any system. but making a tight seal on any woofer is even more important. hope this advice helps your sound improve.

The biggest opportunity is learning from each other if I understand the whole front stage correctly Toyota developed the wide range speaker (not tweeters) within a reason
The only speakers I’ve seen that fit correctly on the dashboard is the 2.5 audison prima, the audio frogs 2.5s and the 2.5 hybrid technologies I used the audison myself and no cutting was required as for the tweeters you have to make a custom panel I did mine on the door alates (the triangle mounding piece) The obvious piece missing is a DSP to trim down the signals to where the sound meets the comfort to your own ears (custom tuning) that will be my next step

I was thinking about doing the same install after putting in the Infinity Reference 6x9 and 6 1/2 speakers. I put the DS18's in the dash but was wondering if the Infinity 3 1/2 would be better. I will forget that now.

If you had a traditional three way speaker up front I think you’d be much happier than a 2-way (full range) driver in the dash. Totally get there are other two-way drivers in the doors too; but with a three-way and DSP tuning off the AudioControl you should be stylin’. Check out the Sony ES 3-ways. They are severely underpriced and I bet they’ll fit.

270uF is way to high and basically is letting 150Hz up pass through at a 6dB roll-off... you should try a 47uF (less bass) or around a 68uF (more bass) and see if that improves the sound.

Great video, I bought the exact same speakers they sound much better up till volume 45 after that anything higher the distortion is so bad, switching brands. keeping the infinity's 6x9 on the doors though.

Having just done just the IR 3.5's in my WRX, the sound they made was too bright and overwhelming for the rest of the OEM system. Now replaced the door speakers with some 6x9's and it's much better balanced, but IMO the Infinity's are still too bright.

Those kickers or some kfc-x2c kenwoods would have fit much better but such is the way of custom audio.

I would never disfigure my truck like that. Got to be plug and play.

Some of that rattle might be mitigated by filling the gap between the edge of the speaker to the bottom of the speaker cover with foam pad similar to what you saw on the original speaker you removed. It will have to be a little taller to compensate for the cone you removed from the speaker cover. After all your work it is a shame to see you are not thrilled with it, perhaps this will help.

Thanks for the content I’ve enjoyed watching this whole process. I get my truck tomorrow and I’m going to need to get my hands on the sound sooner than later. I need to do it in phases so I was thinking about doing the door sound deadening and changing the speakers first and coming back to hook in an amp not too long after, just to the factory wiring. What set of speakers would you recommend just to sit in the factory orientation? The KS’s as you have mentioned in the video? Or should I save a few bucks and go all CS?
I’m considering all things such as factory wiring limitations and speaker power ratings and from what I understand the KS will be quiet until they are amped

Thank you!! I appreciate it! I highly recommend spending the extra bucks and going with the KS that I mentioned in the video. The tricky part about adding an amp for the door speakers is the factory EQ that comes out of the radio is HORRIBLE. Also, the output for the rear speakers is VERY quiet. The amp that I had before was the kicker Key. It was a good budget amp to start off with. Soon, I plan on changing the whole radio out to combat these limitations. Good luck with your build!

@@FloGarage thank you for mentioning the EQ problem, led me down a whole path of “oh shit this is going to be more expensive than I had planned” 🤣
How was the bass before you added subs?

    • @FloGarage
      @FloGarage  Рік тому

@@danielmakuch3094 it was lacking lol. Adding a subwoofer brings that color that’s missing out of music. I don’t exactly remember how it was before, but I can imagine it felt empty without subs haha

@@FloGarage man I feel that, I need to have all of the music there to feel inspired by it. I’m downgrading from the 12’s/decent system I had in my car and I know it’s going to be extremely annoying until I get this new one up to par 😂
