I also added 600 Hz (p/n 266-205 "inline high pass filter") bass blockers from parts express. Got 800 hz (p/n 266-210) too incase I didn't like the 600s. They only have a 6-dB/octave cutoff, so lower frequencies are still there, just more attenuated the further away from 600 (800) Hz you go. I was trying to eliminate bass wave interference and and reduce sonic load on the 3.5" driver....

While driving to work and turning volume above 30 I noticed slight distortion from the dash speakers. Quick fix, go into the audio setting into the fade/balance. Fade the speakers to the rear by 2. I got the same speakers from Crutchfield. Did you solder the resisters on? Mine have distortion as well. Didn't want to have to solder anything to make them work. Probly getting returned.
They are actually crossovers and I’d highly suggest installing them - they help tell the speakers to play the correct frequencies- that way you don’t have a tweeter trying to play bass and blowing itself up or sounding like absolute trash
I found a better way to remove the cover without scratching it. If you remove the a pillar plastic first you can pop the speaker cover with your hands only
Crutchfield gives a warning about going to a low impedance speaker vs the high imped stock speakers. I am looking at 4ohm speakers to replace my stock 23 wrx. Have you noticed radio over heat problems?
Newbie here. So you didn't have to attach the capacitor to the tweeter, eh? I bought Kicker KSC270's for my 2015 Crosstrek, and from other research I did it sounded like tweeters need the capacitor or it would damage them.
Hello, I have a 22 wrx premium and just bought the same setup but had problems with it. When it the bass hits, there's a loud static sound, almost like the speaker would break. I tried changing up the settings but it still does the same. Am I missing some parts to buy?
Yes, every speaker uses a negative and positive wire to drive the speaker. You might have to cut the harness from the oem speaker wires and install some speaker terminal connectors.
I have the Premium head unit in my 23 WRX is there any difference in amp power that I would need to know about? I’m unsure if using the same speaker combo you have would work the same.
Good video but if the OEM tweeters are too bright, you picked about the brightest 3.5 inch coaxial on the market. At least it will have some mids as well. So thats good.

So far I've only replaced the tweeters with the infinity's... and the treble is definitely very bright. Trying to reserve judgement until I get the other speakers in.
They are still bright, but not nearly as harsh as the OEM speakers were. With all the speakers installed, I still run the treble at -4. To me the audio system sounds awesome.
My tweeters never cracked, they were just so overpowering compared to the other speakers. They sound 3x louder in treble compared to the door speakers.
Thanks for doing this series Josh. I copied your setup (using your affiliate links). Im usually happy with a couple good 6x9s and dont know what to look for when I order a sound system. I had the HK system in my Forester and took a car without the HK (didnt want a moon roof in FL). I still dont think the system is as good as my HK forester but its loads better than the base setup. The HK setup has to be more than just the speakers and a sub because I know they use lower grade speakers in them too.
I am glad you found the speaker install videos to be helpful. The reason the HK system has a higher quality sound is the factory installed amplifier. It is pushing a lot more power and has a sub. I appreciate your support with my channel.💪
My 2021 Crosstrek HK didn't have a sub. I was told per dealer it's the same in WRX. It was load but not that's clear. I feel like these overwhelm the door speakers.
So I have one concern with this. Do you happen to know how subaru wired this system from the factory? I would assume the dash speakers are in parallel with the front door speakers. If that's the case, i'd be a little concerned about the ohm load you are introducing, changing those tweeters to a full range.
I am not sure. Crutchfield shows on the website that these speakers are compatible with 22 WRX without HK system. I let them do the research and for me I decided to go for it.
Awesome I’ve been waiting for another car audio video! So I have an old set of Focal KRX2s with tweeters from my 07 Legacy that I want to install in the WRX (HK system). Only problem is that they were powered by an Alpine PDX F4 with 1300 watts of power 😂. Do you think I would hear any benefit if I just install the speakers and use factory amp?
How do you like them 3 months in. I have these in my ram 1500 with the matching 6x9. To me there way to harsh. I have to either fade way to the rear or turn the treble all the way down. Im thinking on putting a little inductor and resistor on them to pull the spl down by about 5 decibels.
I like the speakers a lot after 3 months. I notice on all my speakers that the treble is over boosted and I usually have the treble set at -5, bass and mids +4 and I think it sounds awesome.

Unfortunately I cant ever seem to find audio settings that work good for the oem head unit. It seems like every audio source or different Pandora station has different audio values. I will get it adjusted perfectly for my Pandora heavy metal station and then I change to classic rock and there is no bass and I have to adjust the bass up. Same issues when I change to FM radio. I am constantly adjusting the bass and treble for every audio source for what genre of music I am listening to that day. I need to change out the factory head unit next. Just have not gotten around to it yet. I have owned a lot of new cars, this is in my opinion one of the worst functioning car stereos ever! The speakers do make a huge difference, I hope you like them. Thanks for watching.
Awesome video! The other day, I went to see what was under them grills for the tweeters and removed them. I noticed that the wires were pretty short and thought, OMG how am I going to change this out? The link to the harness adapters was very helpful! I think what I may do is put a pair of Infinity Kappa Perfect 300M's in the corners, then just punch a couple holes in the A-pillars for some component tweeters! I already replaced the front doors with JL Audio C5 6.5" components.

@@JDMRightHandDrive then what you have installed must sound terrible because I went in to get another 2022 Premium WRX with the HK/moonroof package and it sounded pathetic. Ended up going for a regular Premium Ignition Red WRX instead. I usually go aftermarket on the sound systems and my previous set up sounded 100 times better than the HK from the WRX .
@@gustavogo2915 all depends on what aftermarket parts you use. If you stick to stock amp and 6 speaker set up, even with aftermarket speakers, you wont get the quality of the HK which is i think 11 speakers including the sub? The HK likely had filters and crossovers, sending only certain frequencies to specific channels, so as to not overload any one speaker. I'm struggling with this stereo business too, as i could go buy a new civic si at 41k CAD all in, and get an incredible Bose system. But i really want a boxer that's highly tunable 😁

Someone told me that the tweeters need to remain plugged it to send audio to the doors, but you demonstrated that isn’t the case I purchased JL Audio C3-650 for the front doors and C2-650 for the rear doors. I will try the audio without the mid-range drivers and then see if something is missing. The C2-350 should fit the void, if required
I just ordered all the stuff you posted with the connectors! I changed the dash speakers and now when I crank a song with bass the hole system is like cutting out/screeching. Still waiting on the front and rear speaker wires. Any clue?
Do you have the base model? Also did you install the supplied bass capacitor that comes in the box with the Infinity Speakers. I know those will distort for sure with the bass going through them, it needs to be filtered out. I already had my front and rear Rockford speakers installed before I did the dash speakers. I am not sure that has anything to do you your system cutting out. Make sure your speakers are wired up correctly. The Infinity dash speakers impedance is matched to work perfectly only with the base WRX according to Crutchfields website. That is why I went with these speakers. Mine are working perfectly after I installed the bass capacitor in line with the positive speaker wire. Good luck, I hope you can get it sorted out.

I feel it is kind of lack in bass. What would be your recommendation on that?
If you go for these make sure you install the bass blocking capacitor that come in the box to prevent bass distortion. Glad to hear that you find my videos helpful. I have not looked into a subwoofer yet. I was thinking about installing an inline amplifier from the factory head unit. That would give around 45 watts per channel, which would be more that double the stock radio. That should improve the bass. I need to research it though and make sure it will work ok with the factory radio. Thanks for watching and have fun working on your new car.

One question: when i selected tweeters on crutchfield, i got a warning that replacing the higher ohm factory tweeters may overheat my head unit. Any issues with that? Would the included capacitors help with that?
I ordered the speakers and harness you have in the video for my 2023 WRX GT. The harness was too big and did not fit the factory harness - and yes I did order the Tweeter harness from your link.

I also switched out all 4 door speakers to what you recommended as well. So happy with the sound as the HK system was not cutting it for me. Update: I got these Infinity speakers and the same connectors. I can verify that they fit, the wiring is PROPER, and the Ohm rating is close enough to 2 Ohm that it does NOT trigger the Starlink malfunction light. The tweets are a little diminished, so get the JBL version, if you want spicier tweets. They DEF. improved the front mid-range and clarity. I have Kicker KS 6x9 in the front doors and Fiatal Pro 6.5" in the rear doors. I have the fader set to 1 click to the rear to balance the power better to prevent clipping the front speakers. The combo of all 3 sounds pretty dang good. Which is a shame really because I have a RF P600X4 that I'd love to install. I have everything, just didn't install yet.

@@JDMRightHandDrive u can do it yourself. Just connect your car to house/phone wifi and go into the settings and find update. It will download the update and install. then just restart and good to go.
Your video has already my guide to replace my door speakers, I took it a step further though and put Kilmat in the doors. I’ll be rewatching this again and replacing these tweeters thanks to your help.
My vehicle have 4 x 6.5's and tweeters as stock, been mulling over replacing them with infinity reference, the rear are easy replacement as they are coaxials, been thinking if i should just replace the front with coaxials also or separates, but since i don't like to fuss with the wiring much, is it okay if I don't use the crossover that comes with the infinity reference package (if i go with the option of separates), will it even work? Or go for the option of front and rear coaxials and stick with the stock tweeter?
I could not find a 2 way RF speaker. I saw that they did offer a tweeter, however I wanted a 2 way it fill in the midrange a little more up front on the dash. With those tweeters right in the corner of the dash and the sound reflecting off the windshield, I thought just a tweeter might sound to bright and unbalanced. These speakers sounds wise match very well with the RF door speakers in my opinion. Thanks for watching.

Question for everyone that has a premium or higher with the Harman kardon package! Is the wire harness he used in the video able to plug into the one the car has with that has the harman upgrade because mines doesn’t seem to wanna fit?
A key point for setting your bass and mid as well as treble- take note that most car speakers are mid range- the bass they will play is mid range - I’d suggest setting that around 3-4 , your bass can be a touchy one, keep it around 1-2 and the treble on this head unit for some reason is unbearably high , so the -2 is perfect , you could probably get away with having it at 0 at lower volumes.

It's just so unfortunate that this is a thing in 2023. Other competitors in this class, vw, honda, and hyundai, are putting in bose and beats for under 40k CAD but the wrx you gotta be up at 45k to get the H/K system and convenience package. Aggravating
For the price (33k USD for my premium), I think it’s a pretty strong contender. Lots of power, and a lot more ready to be unlocked, AWD, great driving dynamics… Audio was not prioritized and that’s fine by me, as there are amazing people putting up videos like these that can hep you fix it! :) Plus, the pride in saying: “yeah it sounded awful at first, but I worked on it l, replaced all the speakers and listen to it now!”. Nothing beats it
I dont have the bass that the HK system offers. But it does sounds pretty close to what I remember about the HK system. My entire speaker set up was only about $200.

I've watched all your videos on the mods to your '22 WRX. The ones you've done on the speaker upgrades are the best I've seen so far compared to what others have done. It's not high on my list of mods I want to do to my '22 right now but you've inspired me to make it a point to do something with the OE speakers this year. Now - if you find out that the increased base frequencies from your speakers help vibrate and dislodge any stray bits of RTV sealant trapped in your oil pan pick-up I'll move it up to the top of the list. 😏
Hey man I was just curious if you’re having any issues with your aftermarket speakers distorting with the stock head unit ? I’ve been looking all over to see if anyone else is having the same issues as me and not finding any information. But since swapping speakers I’ve had problems left and right. I’ve done the process of elimination too many times to count 😂. Any input you have would be greatly appreciated!
I have not had any issues with distortion on my front or rear speakers. My dash speakers were distorting from to much bass, I installed the bass blocker capacitor and that issues was fixed. All my speakers are distortion free at max volume. Do you have the HK system in your car? Also in the stock head unit I make sure to turn off all the extra features like bass enhancer. Even at bass +8 my speakers don't distort. Make sure the wiring clips that slide onto the speaker terminals taps are tight. You might need to slip them off and give them a slight squeeze with some plyers to make sure they are snug when they slip back on. Hope you can get things sorted out. @@JDMRightHandDrive it ended up being that one of the speakers I ordered came damaged! - apparently one of them being off will throw off the entire system ! I’ve uninstalled the damaged speaker and all of them are back to working condition
I put a set of this tweeters in my Highlander 2021 and 2 dome tweeters Memphis 3/4 on tap may dashboard, soun so clean clear and loud,i love it,so you no need replace ypu OEM speakers 😁✌👍

I dont think the factory head unit would have enough power to properly drive those Focal tweeters. You could always plug them in and see what happens.

Yes 3.5" is the largest that fits according to Crutchfield. The speaker pretty much covered the entire opening.

So crazy to see the volume difference that it needs to be loud versus the HK system Mine only have to go up to about 12 to 13 for it to be pretty loud
My friend has the HK system on his Limited trim and man is sounds good. Still way better than what I have installed.
@@JDMRightHandDrive then what you have installed must sound terrible because I went in to get another 2022 Premium WRX with the HK/moonroof package and it sounded pathetic. Ended up going for a regular Premium Ignition Red WRX instead. I usually go aftermarket on the sound systems and my previous set up sounded 100 times better than the HK from the WRX .
@@gustavogo2915 all depends on what aftermarket parts you use. If you stick to stock amp and 6 speaker set up, even with aftermarket speakers, you wont get the quality of the HK which is i think 11 speakers including the sub? The HK likely had filters and crossovers, sending only certain frequencies to specific channels, so as to not overload any one speaker. I'm struggling with this stereo business too, as i could go buy a new civic si at 41k CAD all in, and get an incredible Bose system.
But i really want a boxer that's highly tunable 😁

Thanks, this video was helpful. I have a standard Impreza 2014 model. Someone told me that the tweeters need to remain plugged it to send audio to the doors, but you demonstrated that isn’t the case
I purchased JL Audio C3-650 for the front doors and C2-650 for the rear doors. I will try the audio without the mid-range drivers and then see if something is missing. The C2-350 should fit the void, if required
I just ordered all the stuff you posted with the connectors! I changed the dash speakers and now when I crank a song with bass the hole system is like cutting out/screeching. Still waiting on the front and rear speaker wires. Any clue?
Do you have the base model? Also did you install the supplied bass capacitor that comes in the box with the Infinity Speakers. I know those will distort for sure with the bass going through them, it needs to be filtered out. I already had my front and rear Rockford speakers installed before I did the dash speakers. I am not sure that has anything to do you your system cutting out. Make sure your speakers are wired up correctly. The Infinity dash speakers impedance is matched to work perfectly only with the base WRX according to Crutchfields website. That is why I went with these speakers. Mine are working perfectly after I installed the bass capacitor in line with the positive speaker wire. Good luck, I hope you can get it sorted out.

I feel it is kind of lack in bass. What would be your recommendation on that?
If you go for these make sure you install the bass blocking capacitor that come in the box to prevent bass distortion. Glad to hear that you find my videos helpful. I have not looked into a subwoofer yet. I was thinking about installing an inline amplifier from the factory head unit. That would give around 45 watts per channel, which would be more that double the stock radio. That should improve the bass. I need to research it though and make sure it will work ok with the factory radio. Thanks for watching and have fun working on your new car.
Pretty sure those are bass blockers being a 3.5” you don’t want to run them in full range. So you should 100% run the bass blockers.

I ordered all the exact speakers you used in the front, back, and dash. Really appreciate your informative videos and good job with the camera work too. High quality resolution and good angles. One question: when i selected tweeters on crutchfield, i got a warning that replacing the higher ohm factory tweeters may overheat my head unit. Any issues with that? Would the included capacitors help with that?
I ordered the speakers and harness you have in the video for my 2023 WRX GT. The harness was too big and did not fit the factory harness - and yes I did order the Tweeter harness from your link.

I also switched out all 4 door speakers to what you recommended as well. So happy with the sound as the HK system was not cutting it for me. Update: I got these Infinity speakers and the same connectors. I can verify that they fit, the wiring is PROPER, and the Ohm rating is close enough to 2 Ohm that it does NOT trigger the Starlink malfunction light. The tweets are a little diminished, so get the JBL version, if you want spicier tweets. They DEF. improved the front mid-range and clarity. I have Kicker KS 6x9 in the front doors and Fiatal Pro 6.5" in the rear doors. I have the fader set to 1 click to the rear to balance the power better to prevent clipping the front speakers. The combo of all 3 sounds pretty dang good. Which is a shame really because I have a RF P600X4 that I'd love to install. I have everything, just didn't install yet.

@@JDMRightHandDrive u can do it yourself. Just connect your car to house/phone wifi and go into the settings and find update. It will download the update and install. then just restart and good to go.
Will, of 4 inch speaker fit? curious because I’m an Alpine guy and they don’t make a 3 1/2 inch they only make a 4 inch

My vehicle have 4 x 6.5's and tweeters as stock, been mulling over replacing them with infinity reference, the rear are easy replacement as they are coaxials, been thinking if i should just replace the front with coaxials also or separates, but since i don't like to fuss with the wiring much, is it okay if I don't use the crossover that comes with the infinity reference package (if i go with the option of separates), will it even work? Or go for the option of front and rear coaxials and stick with the stock tweeter?

Is there a reason you went with these over fosgate tweeters to match the doors?
I could not find a 2 way RF speaker. I saw that they did offer a tweeter, however I wanted a 2 way it fill in the midrange a little more up front on the dash. With those tweeters right in the corner of the dash and the sound reflecting off the windshield, I thought just a tweeter might sound to bright and unbalanced. These speakers sounds wise match very well with the RF door speakers in my opinion. Thanks for watching.

Question for everyone that has a premium or higher with the Harman kardon package! Is the wire harness he used in the video able to plug into the one the car has with that has the harman upgrade because mines doesn’t seem to wanna fit?
A key point for setting your bass and mid as well as treble- take note that most car speakers are mid range- the bass they will play is mid range - I’d suggest setting that around 3-4 , your bass can be a touchy one, keep it around 1-2 and the treble on this head unit for some reason is unbearably high , so the -2 is perfect , you could probably get away with having it at 0 at lower volumes.

It's just so unfortunate that this is a thing in 2023. Other competitors in this class, vw, honda, and hyundai, are putting in bose and beats for under 40k CAD but the wrx you gotta be up at 45k to get the H/K system and convenience package. Aggravating
For the price (33k USD for my premium), I think it’s a pretty strong contender. Lots of power, and a lot more ready to be unlocked, AWD, great driving dynamics…
Audio was not prioritized and that’s fine by me, as there are amazing people putting up videos like these that can hep you fix it! :)
Plus, the pride in saying: “yeah it sounded awful at first, but I worked on it l, replaced all the speakers and listen to it now!”. Nothing beats it

Is the new speakers bigger than the stock ones?
Yes, larger than stock for sure. The stock was a 1 inch dome tweeter. This has a 3.5" mid plus a tweeter.

I dont have the bass that the HK system offers. But it does sounds pretty close to what I remember about the HK system. My entire speaker set up was only about $200.

It was a nice exhaust. I was not sponsored, I was given a 20% discount in exchange for my video review. After a while I thought it was a little on the loud side. I have since sold it and have an AWE touring exhaust that I will be installing soon.

Dash adapters didn’t fit my wrx! Did replace the door speakers ( I have Harmon kardon setup)… the speaker quality from Harmon kardon is not good so looking to replace) if anyone knows the correct harness to use please let me know! Thanks!!! Awesome help with the video!!

I've watched all your videos on the mods to your '22 WRX. The ones you've done on the speaker upgrades are the best I've seen so far compared to what others have done. It's not high on my list of mods I want to do to my '22 right now but you've inspired me to make it a point to do something with the OE speakers this year. Now - if you find out that the increased base frequencies from your speakers help vibrate and dislodge any stray bits of RTV sealant trapped in your oil pan pick-up I'll move it up to the top of the list. 😏

Hey man I was just curious if you’re having any issues with your aftermarket speakers distorting with the stock head unit ? I’ve been looking all over to see if anyone else is having the same issues as me and not finding any information. But since swapping speakers I’ve had problems left and right. I’ve done the process of elimination too many times to count 😂. Any input you have would be greatly appreciated!
I have not had any issues with distortion on my front or rear speakers. My dash speakers were distorting from to much bass, I installed the bass blocker capacitor and that issues was fixed. All my speakers are distortion free at max volume. Do you have the HK system in your car? Also in the stock head unit I make sure to turn off all the extra features like bass enhancer. Even at bass +8 my speakers don't distort. Make sure the wiring clips that slide onto the speaker terminals taps are tight. You might need to slip them off and give them a slight squeeze with some plyers to make sure they are snug when they slip back on. Hope you can get things sorted out. @@JDMRightHandDrive it ended up being that one of the speakers I ordered came damaged! - apparently one of them being off will throw off the entire system ! I’ve uninstalled the damaged speaker and all of them are back to working condition

I put a set of this tweeters in my Highlander 2021 and 2 dome tweeters Memphis 3/4 on tap may dashboard, soun so clean clear and loud,i love it,so you no need replace ypu OEM speakers 😁✌👍
