Just the photos are not as good as when you shoot normally, plus you can' shoot in RAW with this. I only use it sometimes to take long exposure images. But in your situation I can understand why you are happy you had it turned on.

@@sam_9228 I don't think the native camera editing lets you do the masking feature he did with the car that let him highlight the car specifically (halo effect, as he said). If I'm wrong, though, I'd love to hear how you can do it.
The 3x is lower quality, yes, but as I like the perspective better, I use 3x a lot. (was the 2x on the 12pro) on my dslr I use 85mm a lot. My eye/brain/style works like this. My photography has not yet evolved to use wide angle well.
@@AlexandreLollini for most it seems to be easier to use wide angle, so for us with the 85 it maybe be more unique actually haha. but yeah i rlly like the 85 cause it captures many things true to how they are. especially poeple
The 2x on the 14 is a cropped version of the 1, so I get why it would be lower quality. But why is the 3x lower quality? I guess it's a completely separate camera from the 1/2x camera, that just happens to be less powerful?
@@joelface laws of physics, given the size of the lenses and the sensors, the 3x is better than the cropping that gives the 2x, but in low light quality of the 3x is inferior to the 1x even with its dedicated sensor and lens. However for perspective control and to get the good portrait shots the 3x is ideal. It's just less powerful than a DSLR with proper 85MM f1.4 lens. The iphone is honorable, and it is amazong to have such ability in a smartphone. You will always have lower quality when you intrease focal length with the same given aperture (and there aperture is just the front diameter of the lens)
I've been shooting and editing my own photos for over a decade and I didn't realise just how much of a difference distorting the perspective makes. Thank you!
I just upgraded to the iPhone 14 Pro. One of the biggest features for me is the camera. Miles above the older iPhone 11 I was using. Thanks for sharing these settings, I will put them to use.
Do you recommend pro raw 48mp for daily photo taking? (lifestyle etc) dont mind the storage it will take. This is going to be for my Instagram - and I usually upload photos with no filters / edits.
Portrait mode is doable, in an emergency, and if done properly, usually with a more realistic F4 setting (you can do it in post), this is hit or miss, usually I do first some photo mode then I try some portrait mode, if the shoot I am looking for is well served by a blurry background. I agree that DSLR results are always better in this style of photos, but the fact is you have the smartphone in the hand while the dslr is not there right now. Getting the moment, getting the shot is priceless, I prefer getting a 5mp shot of the right thing at the right time rather than a 150mp picture 30mn too late.
I've been embracing shooting with my iPhone more, and the results have been excellent, and the constraints liberating. Thanks for sharing your process. Came here by way of your newsletter. Gentleman's agreement signed.

Also I don’t know who you are I just happened to run into your video but something about your aura makes me want to give you a long tight hug. Keep up the great work!
Very interesting videos. For the portrait mode, I have to agree that the iPhone usually is a bit too aggressive with the background blur. But you can tone it down afterwards and that makes a huge difference. I don't use it often, though...
You can tone it down, AND if it really messed up, you can basically remove it altogether by just bringing the slider all the way down. But, I've found that sometimes, especially with faces, it makes things look 1000x times better than if I tried to get the same effect without it.
i never really watch more than a minute or so of these kinds of videos but holy moly this video is amazing. especially the lightroom tricks. mind = blown
HDR will give you the best colors while recording video. As a professional videographer I highly recommend using it. Also shoot in 4K 60 FPS as it will allow for the smoothest and clearest footage without looking grainy ish
