    This is a great basic guide to camera settings, the more simple things are covered clearly, and the more complex things aren't discussed in baffling detail - people wanting more info on the more complex elements are likely to go looking for it for a deeper dive, so it's great you spent just the right amount of time on each feature. I've saved this video in case I ever feel like having a play around with settings. I changed a couple of minor things, but for the most part my setting are as in this video. Thank you.

    14 PM user here. Learned something new, esp. the raw settings and photographic styles.
    For mirror front cam, I still put it on so that the outcome will not ‘mirror’. Unless there are words or logos going backwards, I just ‘mirror’ it in built-in cam app.
    I use most compatible for higher quality.
    (For videos, yeah it’s better to be 4K, but when uploading to Fb or ‘Gram, better to use 1080p HD as it will not be too compressed compared to 4K. ) 😊

    Dear IPS and David, I would highly encourage you help get an option from Apple to turn off the image processing that occurs with ProRaw Max. For me the image is too over processed and crunchy. I would love to get a 48MP unprocessed RAW file to work with and build it up as I see fit. Any chance of this occurring? Keeping my fingers crossed. Thanks again! Good to see you on here.

    Hi David, it's great to see you & you're looking so well. I have missed your content of late but this video is just what I have been looking for since I sold all my camera gear & am reliant on my iPhone 14 Pro these days. I hope we'll be seeing more of you in future videos, best wishes!

    Thank you for the video, it is great and informative. Also, what I don't understand is whether the HEIF format or the JPEG format has better quality. Is there a difference in terms of quality? As far as I know, jpeg supports 8 bit, heif 10 bit. I would appreciate it if you answer.

      If you are inquiring about the grid, you can activate it on your device by going to Settings > Camera, then turn on Grid. Hope this answers your question.

    I always have live photo turned off except for those moments where I want to take a photo and turn it into a long exposure photo, or one of the other options like loop etc. That's also why under preserve settings I have live photo turned on, or else it will turn live photo back on again the next time I open the camera app. With this turned on in preserve settings it remembers the last setting I used for live photo. And since I always turn live photo off again after using it, it will remain turned off the next time I open the camera app because it remembers that. If I had not enabled it in preserve settings it would have turned live photo back on the next time I opened the camera app no matter what. And I dont wan't all my photos to be a live photo, and you also get better quality when taking a photo without live. Plus when you take a photo at night with nightmode you will see that live photo icon will be turned off if you had it on, thats because nightmode doesnt work with live photo.

    Thanks for this very well made tutorial. However, I still find it impossible to get a decent photo in low light. In natural light, the iPhone 15 Pro Max takes exceptional photos. But in low light it is truly horrible - I’ve worked on this for 8 months now, having watched many tutorials and visiting the Apple store, my iPhone 15 Pro Max has never produced a usable low light photo. My daughter’s cheap OPPO phone takes far better low light pics.

    • @iPhone_Photography_School
      @iPhone_Photography_School  Місяць тому

      It is up to you to leave it on or off. You can try leaving it off and taking a few pictures at a wide angle. If you belive the warp effect is too strong, you can activate lens correction to correct that.

    i dont know if its just me but on photo when the camera is facing me (front camera) i cant do raw max or Heif max its always on raw 12, does this happen to you as well and why does that happen?

    • @iPhone_Photography_School
      @iPhone_Photography_School  Місяць тому +1

      The issue you’re experiencing with your iPhone 14’s front camera not allowing you to select RAW Max or HEIF Max settings is likely due to the current limitations of the front-facing camera. As of now, the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max models support ProRAW and HEIF Max settings primarily for the rear cameras, which can capture images at up to 48 MP. The front camera, however, is typically limited to 12 MP and does not support these higher resolution formats.

      there is not much difference in taking pictures 11 vs 15 its all about composition and light; I have fotos from 5s same quality as 13 or 15 and sometimes simplicity is even better as it forces you to compose better instead of playing with fake zoom features
