What is a turbo blanket, and what are the benefits of installing one?

It's a give and take. Yes, faster spool but more wear and cracking from the extra heat. It could damage the cast on the exhaust side. Good if you have lots of money and time for replacing turbos. We don't think about the negative effects when we are getting a good thing. 😜

Seems it only wears down the manifold on very cheaply cast manifolds from my research, and not every one will have an issue.

@@JustinBoneI use a stock RB low mount manifold and it holds up fine, but my friend on the other hand who uses a eBay high mount with a blanket experienced cracks and small leaks around the welds

Then it heat soaks the turbo to much it's been tried time and time again

Although yes this will increase the temperature of the turbo, they are designed to be hot, where your brake lines and cooland hoses are definitely not designed to get that hot!!! Another note is that exhaust gas moves quicker with temperature!
