Brother there were updates on it in probably five or six other videos that were done throughout last year. They’re all in the Project SteppinWolf playlist. The last video it was mentioned in being the one where I disassembled the kit to sell it. That playlist (and all playlists on this channel) is laid out to make all the videos fairly easy to find. Keeping up with project progress is the best way to see how products are holding up. I was very happy with that one in particular and it sold with the system we had built.
that's nice but I don't have time to watch all of your videos to find the one where you spoke of the turbo blanket follow-up. If there's not one titled as such then I will just have to miss it.
Thank you so much for this video. Looked for comparison and tests and all I got was those brand videos promoting their $200 ones. After enough digging I found yours. Buying my $25 one and saving the rest for more important stuff 👍
This videos very old and there are a lot better turbo blankets on eBay now for about the same money. The ones I recommend now are the ones made and sold by Hiwowsport on eBay. They’re made much better than the one we used back in this video, they’re only about $4 more, and we’ve been running a pair of them on our 900hp twin turbo Camaro for three years now and they still look and perform like brand new. No deterioration whatsoever. They make them in either titanium or black for various sizes and models of turbochargers. Here’s a link to one of their titanium T3 units that were using on the Camaro. www.ebay.com/itm/302833583650?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=VSwMTnaKQMa&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=mi8CQ_jgQaK&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
I actually wrapped my downpipe and turbo hot side with one $35 roll of dei titanium wrap. It's worked great and actually looks pretty good. It's only a k03 so it's a baby Turbo.
I was pretty shocked myself. Not sure how many of my videos you’ve seen but we’ve been running a set of slightly more expensive EBay turbo blankets on Chaos Theory our twin turbo Camaro for over a year now and they’re working great as well. They were about $30 apiece but seem to be a little better quality than this was was.
I put a beanie on my turbo(EFR9180), and it made a MASSIVE difference. My water temps were creeping in traffic from ~85 to around 104 C. After I put this one, the temps creep up much much slower. I have noticed my water and oil temps to be slightly higher, by around 3-4 degrees while cruising, however the temps overall are MUCH more stable. It used to get so hot before that my bonnet stay rod would get almost too hot to touch. Another thing I've noticed is my turbo's a tad more responsive.
Dude I agree 100% when I saw them using the torch it didn't convince me at all. You're awesome thank you for your video's and Time It's helping so much with so many questions. The blanket is out of stock for now. Hopefully they get more.
Thanks for watching and for the kinds words. I’m just trying to simplify some things and help people see through the garbage. I’m not always great at explaining but hopefully good enough for people to get the message, lol. I’d say a lot of the turbo blankets on eBay and Amazon are pretty much the same if this sellers out of stock. 😉
lol Dude trust me your words are getting through. Yeah parts can be expensive but for those doing the daily driving and weekend racing the parts your using is good enough. Sometimes the most expensive parts aren't always the best. So keep it up brother your doing something different and proving that anyone can enjoy a little more performance in their life's thanks to you.
compressing air heats it up no matter what, is better coming a little warm to avoid condensation or humidity conforming inside the pipes. It's the intercooler job to do that. EDIT: (COOL THE AIR). Actually the perfect example will be any Air Conditioner system hahahahaha.
As crazy as it sounds heat wrap and turbo blankets actually increase horsepower. 10-12 HP gain on a stage 2 mini cooper. Squeezing 230ish HP out of a 1.6L you need every trick in the book.
Good analysis. I was wondering about the differences between high end vs low end prices. What I would like to see is, earlier in the video you took a temp reading of the intercooler before the turbo blanket but not after the turbo blanket temps. Good video though...thanks.
I was just measuring the temperature drop across the intercooler. The turbo blanket isn’t going to effect those readings at all. I was just checking because I wanted to know how efficient that intercooler was.
Awesome video, I may be getting the same turbo blanket now, I thought the $200 blankets were a bit much, you guys should do a follow up video and how how the blanket is holding up!
Thanks for watching! I’ve given updates on the turbo blanket in several other videos over the last 6 months. Just gotta subscribe and keep watching videos brother. 👍🏻
Sounds good I'll look through some of your other videos, I'm thinking of getting the same turbo blanket, I've just seen pictures of some peoples blankets turning to dust and fiber glass spreading everywhere in the engine bay. I'll still give it a try though!
Grainsauce that WILL happen after awhile. Especially if you're constantly taking it off and putting it back on. Header wrap will do the same thing. Both products are fiberglassed based and tiny little particles will start floating around. This isn't an ebay specific issue, its just the nature of using fiberglass wrap and blankets. This is why exhaust wrap manufactures recommend wearing gloves while applying them. While this is the first turbo blanket I have ever used, I have personally used just about every brand of header wrap on the market over the last 20+ years and that issue has been consistent no matter what brand it is. Its just the nature of the beast.
That is good to know!! So are pretty much all turbo blankets fiber glass? Or are some of the more expensive ones actually "Lava Rock" like they claim? I'll keep that in mind if I decided to remove or move it any way.
The heat cant escape from the blanket so stays in the exhaust housing as it should. The hotter the exhaust gases are, the faster they move. Same concept as header wrap. But for my purposes that’s all irrelevant as I stated in the video, my sole ourpose was to lower underhood temps which this did.
Great video, I was looking for a good video to send my friend who was looking at an HKS turbo blanket for like $200 bucks. There is no reason to spend that much money seeing as these are good quality and made of the same material. He wants the HKS because it comes with a sheet metal reflector as well. I bet you coul make something similar with a shiny piece if aluminum seeing as that is all it is.
If you check out the newer videos of the Chaos Theory Camaro, the ones I used on its twin turbos are way better quality and only around $35 each. Or at least they were a year ago when I bought them.
Did you forget to measure the intercooler heat after? If the charge intake was so much lower it would be nice to know how much lower the pre and post intercooler was.
No sir I did not. When I took temp of the intercooler the first time I was just checking the efficiency of the intercooler while i was there with a temp gun. It really had no relevance to the test as thats not the purpose of a turbo blanket. 👍
Yeah, but when your air intake temps are so drastically reduced you may end up putting the intercooler into another efficiency bracket, so it could be more or less efficient. Kewl beans, I enjoy your videos
Intake temps before the turbo arent nearly as important as the turbocharger is going to heat that air up anyway. Any the more you drive and harder you drive, the hotter they're going to get. But again, that isn't the purpose of this test. Maybe Ill do an intercooler efficiency test down the road sometime. Honestly Im thinking of downgrading to a smaller intercooler anyway so it may be a cool video to compare the two.
Wow, I spent $200 on my turbo blanket. I was looking at eBay specials but I just couldn’t cheap out there and went with ptp blanket for turbo and dei silicon heat sealant on down pipe.
yea my brand new cowl induction hood ended up bending right above the turbo before I got the blanket. I think it was because it got so hot in that spot and these hoods are prone to bending anyway. It definitely helps though.
Should have taken before/after temps on the intercooler just as you did in the beginning. Would have been very interesting to see the difference on before/after charge temps with the air filter temps being way lower!
When I took temp of the intercooler the first time I was just checking the efficiency of the intercooler while i was there with a temp gun. It really had no relevance to the test as thats not the purpose of a turbo blanket.
Bro, I just bought a giant CX racing intercooler with a box of new, assorted pipes and tubing from Craigslist for $100. Its too big for my car, but the $200 I saved will go a long way to buy cutting discs to make it fit. Since you have a truck, just about any ic Will fit with minimum mods and brackets.

No, you don’t say? You mean exactly like I did in the video without being ridiculously over dramatic and using a torch?🤣 As I already explained in the video, the torch is completely pointless and just for dramatics. If the turbine housing is 700 degrees and the outside of the blanket is 100 then the point is made without overdramatic antics. 🤣
As you can see from the other videos it held up well for about a year. I sold this particular project vehicle over two years ago so I can’t say after that.

There was no more than two minutes between shutdown and the time temps were taken in both cases. Based on the wording of your comment I can assume that maybe English isn’t your first language. Bad Luck Garage lol glad to see u have a good sense of humor and can be cool with it bud. But on a different note. How's the truck doing for ya. I know its been coming along nicely.
Not sure who that is but its not just one person issue. Paint baking off the hood is a pretty common issue that I've seen on many cars with aftermarket turbo setups.
@@BadLuckGarage yeah but this guy made a UA-cam video about the PTP turbo blanket how it effected temps in the engine bay and on his hood. All I'm saying is that the guy your buddy was talking about at the end.
I gotcha brother. I thought he was talking about several instances though, not just one. I know I’ve seen multiple videos on UA-cam and even a few cars at the track locally with that issue. It’s pretty common and actually seeing all those ruined paint jobs and seeing how hot my hood was getting directly above the turbo is the reason I decided to test this cheap alternative. Gotta say I was really pleased with the results. 👍🏻
Setting it on fire proves nothing! Everything will burn, if it's Hot enough, in a o2 environment! Even a diamond will burn if heated in a oxygen environment, and the plasma is much hotter than any turbo will get!
You need to understand why though. The best thing you can do for power gain, fuel economy is to insulate all the headers, the hot side of the turbine, the dump pipe and the cat if fitted. Cooling the dump and cat will allow for better exhaust gas scavenging to occur between the power pulses of the exhaust gas which makes for better flow rates through the engine hence more power.
You seem to be confused so I’ll try to help you out. The purpose of wrapping your exhaust isn’t to cool it, it’s to hold the heat in. Hot exhaust moves faster. The added bonus as shown in this video is that it lowers the underhood temps. You want cold air going into the engine and hot air going out out the exhaust. The turbo blanket and header wrap helps with both of these issues. Hope that helps to clarify things a bit for you. And thanks for watching.
It will be larger than the housing for sure but all that matters is that it holds the heat in(which it will). Having a little air between the housing and the Blanket is actually a good thing rather than it being tight against it.👍

DEI makes quality wrap. I used their silicon heat sealant on my downpipe and ptp turbo blanket on hot side of turbo.
This review comes off as organic. I like it earned my subsription

Impressive
What size turbo are you running with this eBay blanket.
It was on a 66/65 in this video, then in the later videos I swapped to a 78/75 but it’ll work with any size T4 turbin housing.
Ok thanks.i have a precision 6062 so shouldn't be too big.is smaller then yours but is a t4
It will be larger than the housing for sure but all that matters is that it holds the heat in(which it will). Having a little air between the housing and the Blanket is actually a good thing rather than it being tight against it.👍
