I’m so impressed with how beautiful and healthy your broccoli & cauliflower plants are. It’s very sad to see how Mother Earth is struggling so greatly this year….fires & smoke, excessive & dangerous heatwaves, my state of Vermont in New England was totally ravaged by torrential rains & devastating flooding. May you all stay well throughout this smoke-filled summer. So grateful to have found your channel….I love that you love the beauty you find in pretty nearly everything 💝
@suemcknight9051 - Yes, Chelsea has to go about her farm chores like we do in New Hampshire. My heart goes out to those in VT, NH and elsewhere regarding this recent flooding. Our farm is in central lakes region and we are blessed to be on high ground, however, the rains have caused us to stop haying. We normally cut 6,000 bales a season, but the ground is saturated. So my husband and his brother are tending the cattle, mending fences and cutting brush. The gardens are doing ok. We are grateful to live rural. It pains me as well, to see Mother Earth severely affected by climate change as a result of industrial profits getting the upper hand.
As someone who has asthma I could hear the change in your breathing while you were outside. Please be careful my first asthma attack happened for my 33rd birthday 7 days in hospital. I've lived with it now for 32 years not fun stay safe.
Please take care going outside. I have a migraine & we are having asthma attacks. We live in Central Indiana USA. Our view is almost as Smokey as yours. The smoke from Canada is horrible here. We are told to stay inside. It looks like the fires are near us. THEY ARE NOT. THEY ARE THOUSANDS OF MILES AWAY. So I can believe how bad it is there. PRAYERS FOR THESE FIRES TO BE PUT OUT BY LOTS OF RAIN NO THUNDERSTORMS.. GOD BLESS FROM JULIE WEST CENTRAL INDIANA FARMLAND USA ✝️🇺🇸🙏🚜
I haven't read the research but something that came to mind while watching - when you are narrating while harvesting in the smoke, you are likely breathing more deeply than if you were not talking throughout. Stay safe ♥️
Steamed cauliflower - or - thin sliced cauliflower florets (not whole and roundish) with sliced onions, sauteed together, low and slow until caramelized, are two of my all time favorite meals. Just those, nothing along with them. 🙂
Maybe your Hori knife is vacationing with the axe I can't seem to find for the last couple years! Blueberries look good. That cherry tree looks like it is similar to a Rainer cherry. That pop tart looked so good - it reminded me of the apple bars I make. But it gave me the idea to sub in the cherry pie filling I just made. Great harvest of Broccoli and cauliflower - hoping mine will be similar. High tunnel looks great. Great job on the cabin Dan! It is slow tedious work, but it will be worth it in the end. Great video!
Apparently dandelion and burdock go well together and you can make a cordial out of them. Have no clue how you would make it though lol. Got slightly confused, those aren't worms, they're caterpillars.
If you looking for storage in your cabin, here is an idea. You can build boxes underneath your loft in between the 2x4’s, put the lid on hinges and you will have lots of storage, no need for a dresser or anything else. It’s such a great idea. The hinges can be self closing or held with a large hook and eye. There is so much room there you will be surprised how much you can fit without a lot of effort to make them.
Hi Chelsea, I work in Respiratory Physiology and would highly recommend you wear a mask in those conditions , do not risk your lungs ( especially with fine particulates ) they are just as important as your childrens - sent with kind thoughts for your protection
There is also clear jell. But there are two kinds. The kind you have to cook, and not cook. You just have to be sure you use the right one. I think it might be cheaper than sure jell.
We've been struggling too in MN with the smoke. I'll have to post some pics next time the wind pushes it to us. Blessings of health are sent to you and all of those effected. It hurts my eyes & messes with the kids, but it's impossible to keep them in all day. 💚🌞
Chelsea - your flower bed is so very pretty! Please don’t worry about masking up for you trips outside. We’ve all been through Covid so understand the need - especially for full coverage masks for smoke inhalation. Stay safe!🇨🇦
my grandfather lost many knives in his gardens- I gave him a sheath that attached to his belt- it worked great- actually I think it was more of a holster (it was 60 years ago lol) after he passed we were clearing out the garden and found 3 old rusty knives - cleaned them up had them sharpened and still use them
I took your advice about putting partially composted manure around my broccoli plants and I harvested the biggest heads I've ever grown. Thanks! (We've mentioned your channel several times in our videos.)
I use the leaves from the broccoli when I make cheesey broccoli soup and beef stir fry ❤🇨🇦 also I have been noticing the smoke is getting thicker you and your family be safe
I have only recently found your channel and I so look forward to each post. Your style is so natural, it’s like we’re taking a walk together through your garden or cooking/preserving together in your kitchen. Thank you for sharing your life with us.
We keep the N95 masks in our emergency box. We also have saline mist in the bathroom cabinets so we can clean our sinuses in cold & flu season as well as during the fire season.
Your farm and garden are beautiful! Nice harvest, too. I love how the mosquitoes dive-bombing the camera while you were picking berries from the tree look like they're 5 feet tall because of the perspective 😂
That was delightful! No matter what the topics, I'm enjoying watching and listening (i rewind to see parts i missed) during my evening meal. I went to a farm stand/store and got local corn, my favorite vegetables and ive been peeling and eating them. I'm going to cook the yellow and green beans, I've had them raw, for a snack, three times now... lol... they are loosing thier appeal with all the chewing. Thank you! Have a nice night, Laural
Bless you dear lady..We eat the leaves before the cauliflower and brocolli heads are ready then I stew down the stalks of both or add them to my stew/soup bags in the freezer.
Those cauliflower/broccoli are AMAZING!! I ordered the hoops you recommended as the ones won't be high enough for netting my onions next year. We are having terrible times with root maggots this year and the only thing I haven't tried is netting them. We also have terrible times here with 3 insects on brassicas - flea beetles, root maggot flies/maggots and of course the cabbage moths. If we don't have a solid covered netting, one of the 3 is likely to get in, especially the files and flea beetles. When we make fresh pies, we use dry tapioca pudding instead of the cornstarch, works like a charm.
I was concerned for you in the smoke. We have had alerts due to smoke here in Missouri. I can’t imagine the density you had. My broccoli season is finished , I almost served a caterpillar to my family. I had one float to the top when I blanched it. Your cherry “ pop tart” made me want to try it. Please take care.
I cut cauliflower into “steaks” season with salt, pepper and thyme. Cut in 1/2 slices, I pan fry in a neutral oil until lightly charred, in my cast iron skillet
I’m so sorry about those fires!!! I just freeze dried 50 lbs of sweet cherries. Working on pitting another 50 and tomorrow we pick sours (pie cherries). Ugh good for a couple of years. Your gardens are beautiful Chelsie! I also did 4 trays of raspberries and have 8 more in the freezer! We do have 45 raspberry bushes though. Wish we could share photos. Might I suggest trying a trial batch of FD’d broccoli and cauliflower- rehydrate and see how you like it before doing a ton of it. We did not care for it. 😐 We prefer frozen over freeze dried.
One of my favorite Saturday night dinners is a head of cauliflower steamed til done and while it is cooking make up a white sauce with just a touch of dry mustard in it. Drain the cauliflower and put into a nice big serving bowl, top with the sauce and cover with a nice layer of shredded sharp cheddar cheese. So very good. Lovely garden haul. Lucky you to have the cherry trees. Can't find the sour cherries down her in Oregon any more. I loved picking them u-pick with the stems on, rinse and then pull the stems and pits out. Loved having them for pies or in fillings for pastries. I also dried them i my dehydrator and would toss a few into oatmeal for a breakfast treat or into oatmeal cookies just as a change from raisins.
I have a Montmorency tart cherry tree I planted because I was having a hard time finding them anymore here in SW Idaho. It is so nice to have my own source for them. You could do the same if you have the room. They don’t take a lot of pruning, but they do need to be sprayed for Western Cherry Fruit Fly a time or two during the early spring/summer. I use an organic pesticide called spinosad.
Hello Chelsea from our New Hampshire farm. So sorry to see the smoke levels at your farm. We have been spared to date at our farm from poor air quality, however the rains have stopped us from haying any time soon. There is fence mending and brush to be cleared along the fence lines to keep the boys busy. Most challenging summer for us in 30 years. Hopefully your rain forecast will help to put out the Canadian and USA fires. Lovely broccoli, cauliflower and herbs! ~ Diane
Hope you feel better. That smoke is no joke. The yields from your broccoli / cauliflower patch is crazy! And I haven’t had a pop-tart (something about the taste of them before I stopped buying) in over 20 years but yours looks amazing!
Do you remember address books we kept in the desk? I decided I was going to make a canning notebook just like an address book. So I made an alphabetical notebook with a letter per page. Then I added all the things I can with wb or pc times with 25p/30q instructions for whatever the time. Each time I come across an item that isn't in it, I just add it. I can flip in that hard back notebook (from the dollar store) to the page that I need to know the time on. Hope that helps someone.
It's so bizarre to see this smoke! You should have worn a mask, which I'm sure you know, because I've seen you wear one,but sometimes we just do without thinking. We live in Illinois and actually had so many days that have been effected by these fires, and in my lifetime I don't remember this ever happening. (I'm 56) to a point that we were told to wear masks for several days...up to a week. I can't imagine what it's been like for you. It makes me so sad
Once again you made my day!! Gorgeous cauliflower & broccoli!!!💚 Doing my blueberries today & was on the fence on how to process them Now defiantly light syrup only! I’ve got to get me a steam canner!! Hubby is excited that giant pop tart is in his near future😃 Excited to see the progress on the tiny cabin!! Thanks Chelsea 🥰
Burdock is used a lot in Japanese cooking. It's called gobo and this is where i learned about this root veg and it is one of my favourite veggies now. The root is delicious stir fried. My favourite way is with chicken and egg over rice or with carrot in a dish called gobo kinpira (the kinpira seasoning works well with other veggies like potato as well). It also freezes quiet well when sliced or shredded.
I see all those ends of broccoli and cauliflower cooked in a pot of water to make veggie stock. Just add a few herbs and maybe some onion and garlic skins. Stay safe.
Wow - jam-packed video! Such a busy time of year for the garden. And I'm envious of your cauli and broccoli. I harvested my broccoli in June (down south near Vancouver) - can you believe that?! So early. Never heard of sea buckthorn - interesting. I gave up on currants (we had black, red and white) because of worms in the berry - ugh. I sure hope you get that rain. I'm finding those covid masks very useful in the worst of the smoke. Take care.
My boyfriend when I was 20 taught me how to soak the cauliflower and broccoli and salt water and the worms would come to the top of the water and trust me. It was gross but that’s when your first starting out not knowing what the heck you’re doing lol.😊
Your cauliflower is amazing this year my gosh. Last night I was given an idea from a friend to make cauliflower 'mac' and cheese. So I tried a version tweeked. Oh my gosh it was amazing. Made a cheese sauce and topped with a layer of cheddar shreded and did a crushed cracker crumbs with melted butter on top. Unbelievable yum. Cherry trees wow, and poptart looked so good. Everything as usual does. hugs
Your almost to 125,000 subs !!! Beautiful brocolli and cauliflower. The pop tart looked so good. How did your children like it? The cabin is coming along nicely. Have a wonderful day. Glad the smoke is gone.❤
I loves all your videos! I binge watch them over and over lol. I too have a Sour Cherry tree and would like to try making cherry pie filling and canning it. Would you please consider doing a video on this soon? I have made many of your recipes and yet to find one we don’t like so I trust that you pie filling is yummy as well. Thank you for your consideration. 😊
Hey Chelsea, i just watched this video and I wanted to share with you a trick for the worms. My mother in law taught me this trick she learned working in a hospital kitchen in the laye 1950's early 1960's. When you bring in your harvest and after you wash it. Submerge it in salty water. For 30 minutes and the pests will want to get away from the salt and let go, float to the top ...i havent tried it with cauliflower but i do it with broccoli, Brussels sprouts ect. There really isn a recipe just make it salty.
Bt is also formed from milk. You can dilute milk and spray it on your plants or put into the soil. It forms bacillus thuriugiensis😊. I had a good gardening friend tell me he sprayed his garden with diluted milk (he used powdered milk), and I never knew why it worked. Now I do😊 Do not use whole fat or sweetened milk.
What is read said you have to spray Bt on plants, then harvest some of the infected caterpillars, whiz them up in the blender with the milk and strain it out and spray it. It’s a way to maximize the bacteria instead of having to buy more Bt.
Isn't it funny how much you appreciate blue sky after not seeing it for days.
I say “we” did this when my husband completes a project too. 😂 He asks if I have a mouse in my pocket.
You, Darling, are a natural at content creation & delivery!
I agree!!! She must be able to sense all the questions people might ask and just goes ahead and answers them!

We are feeling the effects of the Canadian wildfires even down to Ohio! Can’t imagine being in the midst. Take care.
With all of the current cold temps I thought watching a summer garden video might cheer me up. You came through. Your cauliflower was gorgeous!
♥️

Oh my. Not only is the smoke bad for humans, but the animals too!
When you walked into the high tunnel, you just beamed….I love it! Love to she you so happy! 🥦🥦🥦🍅🍅🍅🍒🍒🍒🥒🥒🥒🧄🧄🧄🥕🥕🥕🧅🧅🧅
My happy place!
I haven't read the research but something that came to mind while watching - when you are narrating while harvesting in the smoke, you are likely breathing more deeply than if you were not talking throughout. Stay safe ♥️
Girl don't chance the smoke it is so bad for you. I want to smile with you when you show your progress and the beautiful flowers.
Steamed cauliflower - or - thin sliced cauliflower florets (not whole and roundish) with sliced onions, sauteed together, low and slow until caramelized, are two of my all time favorite meals. Just those, nothing along with them. 🙂
thank you! sounds very yummy!!
The veggies were beautiful! On the cabin: my husband always tells me “slow and steady, wins the race”. 😊

I really enjoyed this video. I love your excitement at seeing your plants produce beautiful crops. Your energy always lifts my spirit.
You are such an inspiration! Thank you! You’re my favorite channel these days, I smile every time I see you have a new video 😃
Thank you for being such a blessing. I watch you at bedtime, really winds me down. Praying for Canada
That's how I do my berries, I make hand pies, and I use cornstarch as my thicker. Enjoy your videos. Pat

The absolute best broccoli and cauliflower on UA-cam
Prayers are with you and your sisters family. ❤️ your garden is amazing for your zone! Wow. Amazing work!

I know you have a lot of broccoli and cauliflower, but you can soak them in ice water and that will get the worms out of the those vegetables
I love your videos I'm from West Virginia 70 wish I was young again God bless you and your family.
Chelsea - your flower bed is so very pretty! Please don’t worry about masking up for you trips outside. We’ve all been through Covid so understand the need - especially for full coverage masks for smoke inhalation. Stay safe!🇨🇦
You could try making dandelion and burdock drink, lovely
That’s awful when that smoke rolls in, we get that to here in California and it’s miserable! Your garden are beautiful.
The smoke looks terrible be safe while outside. The harvest of cauliflower and broccoli is amazing. Thank you for sharing.
my grandfather lost many knives in his gardens- I gave him a sheath that attached to his belt- it worked great- actually I think it was more of a holster (it was 60 years ago lol) after he passed we were clearing out the garden and found 3 old rusty knives - cleaned them up had them sharpened and still use them
We have the Canadian smoke down here in Southeast Missouri also, very hazy. Can’t imagine what it’s like outside there.
I took your advice about putting partially composted manure around my broccoli plants and I harvested the biggest heads I've ever grown. Thanks! (We've mentioned your channel several times in our videos.)

Beautiful garden Chelsea. Hopefully the smoke clears soon. Praying you get the rain.
Your veggies turned out beautiful. Your amazing, I don’t know how you do it all.
Ich wish I had your energy. Energy I used to have. Love your content and looking forward for every video. 😊
Your cauliflower and broccoli is such a great size.I so miss my gardens. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️❤️💚🥰🤗
Bless you dear lady..We eat the leaves before the cauliflower and brocolli heads are ready then I stew down the stalks of both or add them to my stew/soup bags in the freezer.
Use the blue berry juice to make blueberry lemonade,my new favorite thing this year.
The broccoli stalk peeled back is the best of the broccoli in my opinion ❤
Have you ever considered a Gorilla cart for harvesting? We find it so much easier to manage than a wheelbarrow, holds more and even has a dump feature
Bought one this year. You are so right!
Fabulous video! I'm tired just watching all you accomplish!
Those cauliflower/broccoli are AMAZING!! I ordered the hoops you recommended as the ones won't be high enough for netting my onions next year. When we make fresh pies, we use dry tapioca pudding instead of the cornstarch, works like a charm.
Our raspberries in Oregon are growing crazy this year.
Stay safe and take care with all that smoke
I was concerned for you in the smoke. We have had alerts due to smoke here in Missouri. I can’t imagine the density you had. My broccoli season is finished , I almost served a caterpillar to my family. I had one float to the top when I blanched it. Your cherry “ pop tart” made me want to try it. Please take care.
Wonderfully enjoyable content! 😊
I cut cauliflower into “steaks” season with salt, pepper and thyme. Cut in 1/2 slices, I pan fry in a neutral oil until lightly charred, in my cast iron skillet
Another fantastic video. I'm glad the smoke got better
I have never seen a canner like that! Cool
So sorry about the smoke! We are dealing with a fraction of that in Maryland ❤
My mouth is watering looking at all your broccoli and cauliflower. Yummy!! Your cherry trees are beautiful. I love a sour cherry pie 😋
Sorry!🇨🇦
You should have a mask on while in the garden, with all that smoke. Just a suggestion
OMG! Did everyone see all the Hummingbirds buzzing around ?!? So stinking cute
Thank you for sharing all you do! I remember making baskets out of the burdocks after picking them off our clothing when I was young.
Would it work for broccoli cheese soup?
One of my favorite Saturday night dinners is a head of cauliflower steamed til done and while it is cooking make up a white sauce with just a touch of dry mustard in it.
Mmmmm blueberry juice in lemonade or tea.
Hello Chelsea from our New Hampshire farm. So sorry to see the smoke levels at your farm. We have been spared to date at our farm from poor air quality, however the rains have stopped us from haying any time soon. And I haven’t had a pop-tart (something about the taste of them before I stopped buying) in over 20 years but yours looks amazing!
I could listen to you talk about your plants all day. Your videos make me excited to make and do my own things.
Broccoli stalks are delicious! Always use both the flower and stock.
So smoky! We’re just starting to get over that here in province of Quebec! Wishing you all well! ❤
Smoky here from fires also im in northern mass.
I’m not a fan of the broccoli leaves but also will eat the stock 😊

Fabulous pop tart! When I make cherry pies and cobblers I add a couple of drops of almond extract along with the vanilla-such a nice flavour.
I use clear gel for my pie filling , it works good .

I just found your channel and I have been binge watching. I just love your channel. I am also zone 3b so you are helping me learn so much.
Welcome!!
Raspberries are my favorite berry.
I didn't know that a regular mask could make the effects of smoke worse! Thanks for sharing that. You always have such great tips and tricks.
Smokey and raining here in central Alberta.
Stay safe! One time won't harm you, but next time you know to bring your mask. Thank you for your amazing content ❤️
7/17 we have smoke in Pennsylvania today. Expected tomorrow as well. Stay safe
You inspire me.
I learn a lot from you! Thank you for sharing your knowledge!!
Have you considered reversing the refrigerator door?? adding a small shelf metal between stove & refrigerator?
Bt is also formed from milk. You can dilute milk and spray it on your plants or put into the soil. It forms bacillus thuriugiensis😊. I had a good gardening friend tell me he sprayed his garden with diluted milk (he used powdered milk), and I never knew why it worked. Now I do😊 Do not use whole fat or sweetened milk.
What is read said you have to spray Bt on plants, then harvest some of the infected caterpillars, whiz them up in the blender with the milk and strain it out and spray it. It’s a way to maximize the bacteria instead of having to buy more Bt.
Raspberries in Ontario are also lush and plentiful this year......Content of herbs ie. Bur bush is interesting...Thanks
I’ve never heard of evaporated cane sugar. I looked it up. Amazing
