It’s cool, because this explains how Darth Marr was able to become a force ghost. He, was willing to put other things above himself (mainly the sith empire). And rather fought for the Empire than for his own personal gain.

My question for the Jedi would be, "How is losing your individuality not death?" Becoming one with the Force doesn't strike me as an afterlife, anymore than the events that happen to my corpse do. It's death, even if it does bring about new life.

The Sith Code merely focuses on freedom of will and desires but not in the Force. The first Lords of the Sith are aware of this, which is why most Sith Lords tend to go out in a blaze of glory hoping to reek destruction on their enemies as their only legacy. The Sith belief is almost the equivalent of Nihilism perceiving the Force as an entity that is meant to be controlled through sheer iron will

4:57 - As far as I remember, in legends force ghosts were not in the netherworld. Force ghost was a temporary state where a light side user can still exist within the world of living after death. They were close to barrier between netherworld and physical world but they still didn't crossed it. Eventually the force ghost fully evaperated, then the consciousness entered the netherworld and could never return. So sith spirits were better in one aspect. They could exist forever in the physical realm if nobody decided to destroy them. Though, unlike jedi force ghosts, they had to be bounded with a person or an object.

Excuse me, did you forget about Exar Kun's assault on Luke's temple? He turned Kyp Durron to the dark side and when they attacked Luke, they actually tore his spirit from his body. It took the collective strength of Luke, his students and the ghost of Vodo-Siosk Baas to finally get rid of Kun for good.

In all honestly the whole rejection of self is why I dislike the jedi doctrine (as well as concepts like nirvana or becoming one with the Dao). If I have shed my personality, my memories, my ability to perceive, or even my ability to think then what am I?
In such a state I don't even have the virtues the Jedi proclaim like compassion or love - I have effectively become an object, not an example of life, not a person, certainly not enlightened and there is nothing left of me to enjoy any bliss or release such a state is supposed to bring me. I have always been of the mind that the Jedi are making an incorrect assumption simply because of what they don't see. There's a difference between being able to *manifest to the world of the living*, and flat out *not existing*. To my personal way of thinking, a Sith would be more likely to *manifest* due to forging a path back to the mortal world with their passions, with the help of artifacts, etc.. Jedi could do it as well but it was rare because they *presupposed the inability to do it*. I also think there's no reason to think that non-Force-sensitives didn't have an afterlife and retain consciousness; I figure they just couldn't manifest to the living because they did not forge the links to the world of the living through sufficient Force and passion.

The old republic actually had many sith ghosts who not only could wield force powers to possess and control regular people and even kill lesser force users while shrugging off most force attacks. The downside was that many of these spirits were not only bound but unaware that they'd even died and sort of stuck in their own time unable to truly acknowledge reality until a sufficiently powerful force user came. Otherwise they just reenacted the events of their lives using their thralls as puppets, and unless said force user was trained in the right rituals the spirit would simply attack and kill or drive them off so they could return to the delusion. That said a few more powerful lords did maintain both their powers and awareness, but they were physically bound, either to their tomb, their holocron, or if they were lucky, to their bloodline.

I kind of like the idea of blending in to the general river of what I lived and died championing. You're in the river and, just as every drop of water isn't named, keep the same direction and ferocity with so many of your own from times long gone. It would be much better to be able to interact with the others drops of water, but that's not really a big hinge for me
It's like what happens when you become a Nightingale in Skyrim. You rejoins the shadows that actively aid, guide, and/or protect your fellow thieves. Your help may not be directly noticed, but it's just as real as if your physical hand guided your fellow thieves. You may not be individually known, but you're not a single thief by now - you are _thievery_ made manifest
It's pretty romantic, honestly. Not just becoming a champion of the thing you lived and died for, but to become _part_ of it. It gives what happens next a strange older/younger dynamic as, though dead, you still aid and guide those that use you for the same reason you used those that died previously. Sure, I'd rather be able to learn things forever, possibly championing new causes and gaining new accomplishments, but I'm also not currently a champion of _anything_ at all. My personal crusades affect little and I'm not part of an order of any kind. I imagine that an alternate self that _was_ subject to these qualifiers would have no issue with it

  • @NightmareTroubador

I think this line of dialouge from the ROTS novel that was practically line edited by Lucas himself sums it up best. This is between Yoda and Qui-Gon, discussing learning to become a Force ghost that was cut from the film because Liam Nesson was unable to make it to record the lines.
    Yoda: "Eternal life..."
Qui-Gon: "The ultimate goal of the Sith, yet they can never achieve it; it comes only the release of self, not the exaltation of self. It comes through compassion, not greed. Love is the answer to the Darkness."
Yoda: :"Become one with the Force, yet influence still to have.." Yoda mused. "A power greater than all, it is."
Qui-Gon: It cannot be granted; it can only be taught. It is yours to learn, if you wish it.
The ultimate irony is the Dark Side corrupts you and makes you selfish, greedy. So you want more and more and more, to the point like Sidious you want to live forever. But because of that greed, selfishness, corruption you can't ever obtain the power. Qui-Gon's line about how it is has to be taught also explains why it was an unheard of power, and only a handful of characters have ever achieved it. So no, Sith can't become Force ghosts. But they can make attempts that only lead to failure and suffering beyond death.

You think that was JJ Abrams’ original plan before Disney and Lucasfilm change it to Exegol. Remember Art of Rise of Skywalker, And Adam Brockbank in instagram reveals concept arts of JJ Abrams wanted Coruscant as the final battle not Exegol. From the book: “Instead of finding his way to Exegol, in the early November 2017 version of The Rise of Skywalker story, Kylo Ren instead takes his shuttle to a desolate, ash-covered Coruscant, the once bustling city streets now overrun by giant wolves. Inside the abandoned Jedi Temple, Kylo takes a central elevator down to the temple's deepest level." That deeply ties in with *Jedi Temple built over the Sith Shrine*
It would be so much better Palpatine's ghost has a powerful attachment to the Sith Shrine, or Kylo Ren wants helps to escape chaos it is better than that mess of the clone and final order. It makes me believe that Lucasfilm want to created Exegol to promote the High republic or the acolyte series. I feel bad for JJ Abrams because Rise of Skywalker is in fact a rushed production and executive and higher ups change ideas during mid production. They could’ve gave them more time to proof read and contact Lucas story group. And I believe JJ want to honor Colin Trevorrow’s vision, Duels of Fate, of trying to bring Coruscant in Rise of Skywalker.
