I absolutely love that old remote control Archie has! It worked off sound waves and had two tuning rods and two buttons - one for changing channels and one for power/volume (loud/louder/LOUDEST/off/on). The two buttons were like little hammers that hit the tuning rods. Needless to say, ancient technology (yes, I was a tv repairman!).
I didn't even know they had remotes back then. We certainly didn't for a few early models in the 80s.
I remember, when I was really young, my dad using that same type of remote. Now I feel old😅

Edith was right here (she usually is). Sorry Arch, but the parents decide things about their kid, you're the grandparent and you're not the authority over them. I think Gloria may have been ok with Joey getting baptized but Mike was dead set against it (even said he'd renounced his own though I don't know what good that does) so she complied with his wishes. As a Baptist I don't go along with infant baptism but I respect others' beliefs. Archie and Edith could tell Joey about God as he was growing up so he'd see his dad's atheism isn't the only belief in the world. And of course they could pray for him.
True. But if Mike is simply an atheist...why should it matter to him if Archie baptizes little Joey?
@@jaymike3302 Go figure. Sometimes I think atheists have some kind of war against God (like that'll do them any good) instead of not believing. Otherwise they'd figure baptism doesn't mean anything. Once I had words with Madelyn Murray O'Hair the famous atheist who had prayer taken out of schools back in the early 60's. This happened around 1980 or so. She was on some kind of talk show where you could call in to ask questions or they would take questions from the audience (pre-online days so you couldn't email or text one in). I called in and told her I was praying for her. She got incensed and screamed "Don't pray for me to your fairy tale God!" I asked why that should upset her. If God wasn't real then no one would hear my prayers but she acted threatened like something might happen to her just because someone prayed for her. I wonder what gives with that.

@@JG-tt4sz The baptism of an infant is the parent's decision alone. When Joey gets older and wants to be baptized, that will be his decision. Archie doesn't factor into either equation.

If meathead doesn’t believe God is real then what’s his problem with splashing some water on the baby? It just seems a bit selfish.
Bottom line is Joey is Mike and Gloria's child, NOT Archie's.
I'm all for baptism, but not for baptizing other people's kids without their permission.
While I understand his motives in doing so, Archie was still in the wrong here. It's a wonder Mike and Gloria forgave him for this one. Even Edith didn't approve.
@@BethHarmon-uv7tl Archie shouldn't have done it because the parents get the final say without a doubt for any, or even no reason, but I think I would be like who cares it's not worth the fight.
If he believes it will have any impact at all then he's not an Atheist anyway.
@@400KrispyKremes Archie upsurped Mike and Gloria's authority in this case. If he was willing to do that over a baptism, who's to say he wouldn't try to undermine any other decision they made in regards to Joey in the future?
No matter how much you may disagree with someone else over their beliefs, you do not have the right to disrespect their wishes, no matter how trivial you may find the matter to be.
In that respect, maybe Mike and Gloria were right to move as far away from Archie as they could (even though they ended up separating for a spell then breaking up for good a couple years later).
BTW, I'm a believer and even I thought Archie was way out of line here.

Mike and Gloria's and Archie's beliefs are not the issue here (or shouldn't be anyway), it's Archie usurping their authority regarding their son.
I know I would most certainly have a problem with anyone, even a family member, going over my head and take it upon themselves to make any decision concerning my child without my permission.
Archie should thank his lucky stars that Gloria didn't renounce him as her father.
I believe Archie might have done the right thing. True, it's not his son.🎉
