I had an 883 for about 10 years and 35,000 miles. My passing technique was time my run up behind the target vehicle picking up speed and time it right when no traffic was coming and make my pass.

Excuse me young man. I'm taking a 23 year old motorcycle to social bags. It doesn't have abs but it does have fuel injection (which was new at the time) I'm looking forward to seeing the HD in person.
Sounds like a super tour you've got planned, Weston. Having lived in France for 10 years I would advise when driving there to adhere strictly to the speed limits. You never see the Gendarmerie and their cameras and they can now send the summons to your UK address. They can also fine you on the spot for speeding and for many motoring offences like failing to completely stop at stop signs and failing to reduce speed when it's raining. French cyclists are also sacrosanct so try not to swear at them or kick them off their bikes. Classic bikes can run forever providing they are maintained properly. My only bikes now are a 1958 Velocette Venom and a 1969 Norton Commando Fastback.
😂 the cyclists made you swear! I refer you to a recent Beans On Toast video. Yes they have a right to be on the road but they act like nobody else does. That was a fab ride and you gotta love a Sporty. Just remember MOST of the Socialbags ride is in Devon.😊
I totally agree that no bike with EFI and ABS and any other computerized garbage is or ever will be a "classic". I have a 2006 H-D Sportster 1200L, last year for carbureted Harleys in the U.S. But it has that really wide 4.5 gallon tank, which to me ruins its looks, and because it has the rubber mount frame, I have not been able to find a peanut tank made for carbureted bikes to fit it. I also have a 2013 Royal Enfield Bullet 500 that I bought new. It came with EFI, but within a week I had replaced that with an Amal Concentric MK1 carburetor, using a kit from Hitchcocks that converted the tank from EFI to one you could put a petcock on. It ran about 10 times better after that. I also put a much smaller non cat con exhaust on it, also from Hitchcocks.
Replacing the fuel injection with a carbon, wow that's commitment. I won't knock injection when it works and cold starts are a lot easier than having fiddle with the sportster choke to get the sweet spot 🤣
The trip sounds awesome mate, I hope you have a lot of fun on it and the weather is on side. I get really annoyed with cyclists not peddling... if they are gonna hold me up, they should at least pretend they are trying to go a bit quicker... and if they are not fit enough to peddle after a hill climb, then obviously all that cycling isn't working and they may as well buy a motorbike, especially if they are not gonna peddle! 😀 Hahahaha 😀
Thank bud, I use a £4 mic from ebay that plugs straight into the gopro with a media mod fitted. 🤣 People struggle so much with sound but I've been lucky and found the simplest option to work the best for me. Always think we sometimes spend so much time (and money) trying to perfect the audio but ignore the basics of keeping connected tons and wiring to a minimum. 👍

Love the cyclist rant, for some reason my FB feed always has the pretentious, virtuous, wank merchants and their cycling groups berating the world because it caters to cars. This aint Amsterdam, the roads have got every busier and cycles are a menace to most of it. I am of course, joking 🤗🤗😏😏 -- I appreciate, as many of us do the equipment failures!! Surely "you're not a peloton, you're a pillock" would have fitted better? We're getting plagued by MAMILs round here being as it's summer and they need to ride around on their expensive bicycles for some reason. Could get a real bike (with an engine) for less.

🤣🤣 I couldn't imagine putting myself through the pain and stress of cycling now, happy to stick with my gas gusler. I'm keeping everything crossed that we have an uneventful but still exciting trip to Italy and back, 🤞

My riding buddy bought a full Rukka Nivala suit. It leaks. Rukka says it's working correctly. So does Gore Tex 🤷
