- We have a look at the locomotive hauled Swan Hill train. This train runs a return service twice daily over the 345km long route in the North of Victoria, Australia. It is hauled by an N class diesel locomotive, a GM product built in Victoria in the early 1980's.

the cool thing about this train is if I leave home (echuca) on the first train out, I can get to swan hill AND back to bendigo before the train back to echuca arrives in bendigo. At least until the timetable changes that is

I being up and down that N set train so many times I lost count LOL! but I miss them when vols take over it! If recall rightly it look like VN10!

@@driver667 you had N12 with two BZNs and VN3 with BDN and former ACZ on it as well for the other train you hauled with your locomotive!
And last glimpse of other carriage with older mk3 livery looked and suspected to be VN14 which I fondly refer to the “ Hamburger” set because of that red stripe on it!

what a fabulous workhorse! I spent more time at albury station between 2002 and 2017 photographing the locos than i have nowadays. I love the smell, the sound, the vibration as you near the engines. My absolute faves so thanks heaps for this one:))

I'm not looking forward to the day this line has it's N classes replaced by VLocities. Loco hauled trains are right at home on the Swan Hill line

Nice video - I hope the N Class will live on after their Vline retirement, they sure still sound great! They have that 'ringing' EMD sound that is unmistakable, and the notching sounds are awesome...

I hope the Swan Hill line still uses loco-hauled trains for a while yet. With the Warrnambool line looking like it's soon going to be using Vlocity services, SW will be the only line still to have all loco-hauled trains. It'll be sad when the time comes where there are no more and every line has only Vlocities. Always love your videos. Please do one for the Warrny line too while it still has N classes if you can.

I find it unusual that Swan Hill trains stop at Sydenham instead of Sunbury which Bendigo and Echuca trains do. Especially because Sunbury seems to be a popular spot for passengers joining the trains
One or two Bendigo peak hour trains do the same. 👍😊

I’m surprised the yard in Swan Hill hasn’t been ripped up yet, unlike Mildura which was ripped up for nothing.
And I’d definitely wouldn’t like it if either VLos or a newly designed diesel multiple unit were introduced to Swan Hill services, cos that will be hell to ride on.
I’d rather a better long distance train (new modern locomotives and carriages) than a glorified commuter train thank you very much!

Yes, it will be the last service to run locomotive hauled. It will be a few years yet. 👍😀
Such a shame, these are much quieter and comfortable than DMUs to ride in.

@@margaretcampbell2681 they seem to want vlocity units on everything so one day I guess it will be the same as everything else but that won't be for a number of years yet. 👍😊

My western depots were,bxt,axt,dim,then Adelaide when I worked for ASR in late 90s

@@driver667 only hills you saw was the ones you went up and down,if you could master the grades between deep lead loop and axt you were ok,
And if you could go from ingliston to the marsh on the air ,likewise,still each area had its areas where people could and would get caught out.
