That is such a cool concept/idea that I never realized when he braces his entire body is one rigid structure and easily manipulated. I can't wait to see all the places that'll be useful, thanks Keenan!
Great tutorial, I know this a fast transitional move because the best defense for it is to straighten yourself to create a side kneecap torn on the left knee. Dangerous but very interesting move.
Any technique no matter how complicated or strange, can be executed as long as you know how and when to perform it well. It's basically all about how deep a technique is buried in your "bone-marrow" not the technique it self. Some techniques are not the ideal at any given situation but I'm pretty sure a 250 pound guy would be able to be beaten with this technique given the right moment. It's all on the user how effective something is!
the reply was sarcasm. my point is that what works in sport jj doesn't always work in the street when multiple oppenents and striking/weapons can be variables.
No disrespect to Keenan, who is an amazing athlete and inspiration to us all,but this move is kinda hard for many peps especially the heavier weight classes.Keenan has long legs and gr8 flexibility and this kinda game suits him well
From my experience, usually by a scramble. I'll get there if I go for a knee bar and fail. Of sometimes if both people are going for butterfly guard, you could end up there.
He probably refers to the low-skill of most of the BJJ practitioners, since it looks really complicated and like a lot can go wrong with this technique. Also there is probably an easier technique to apply in a real fight, like a normal heel hook i guess
Wanted to ask , what if the opponents gi is really lose and pulling by grabbing the armpit area of the gi does not really work to bring the guy closer, is it ok to try and grab the tricep area instead and would it work in no gi ???
i finish street fights by jabbing people in the throat with my fingers. i can also apply this from any position and against anybody! but that would get me as far in a grappling competition as trying to use a 50-50 guard in a street fight.
Even though 50/50 guard is gay as fuck and annoys me when I see it, I thought it was badass watching Keenan pull this of on which ever Miyao it was. It was a badass transition at the tournament.
Maybe he meant this is one of those street useless, competition only BJJ techniques. I'm sure it works perfectly fine if the other guy is a competition only BJJ black belt and pulls 50/50. Probably less so if he is a 250 pound bar fighter trying to remove your head from your shoulders.
GetFit WithMe You're very welcome, brother. Heads up, I'm pretty sure that under IBJJF rules, knee reaping isn't legal at any level. No one seems to think that it's a good rule, but there it is.
Yep - there's not a SINGLE example of this working; let alone against high level competition! He's just trolling you to subdue the competition from emerging with techniques that 'work', right??

50/50 guard in a bar fight? bahahahaha, wow. Thank you for making my day. OMG this is priceless....lol
Thanks Keenan and Kasting so much always wanted to learn this one
Weird, it sure worked on one of the Miyao brothers at the Pan American BJJ championships earlier this year
Awesome details in this one.
Been waiting to see this! Thanks
on both of them now i think, the famous one was when he did it on joao, but i think i saw him do it to paulo also recently
Thank you

I finally pulled it off in sparring :D
THESE TO MANLY MEN ARE MY HEROES AND REASONS I STARTED BJJ FUCK YEAH
That's clean, man.
JT also caught Caio Terra with an armbar from 5050.
I guess Caio is a noob too?

hahaha.
thanks for the details on the armbar Keenan!
With that response I will assume that you're only here to troll XD
This guy is a Fuckin genius

how to get to that position ?
thanks for the tutorial! :)
Fair to say that the "50-50 armbar" would not be a good choice of technique if you were not in 50-50.
I want to see that
I tried to armbar someone from inside their guard, how come it didn't work??
If memory serves me correct he used this to beat one of the Miyao brothers in a competition.
wait are you serious?
i think he is
he caught jaoa miyao with this at the pan ams.
You from Lloyd Irvin's camp secretly?
does this work the same if they're sitting up instead of laying flat like the uke in this video?

also btw i actually saw a mate finish with this a couple weeks ago in a comp. so you are all wrong
OK let Keenan get the 50/50 on you and see if he can submit you.
holy shit
I'm sure it is.
Can we still do that with no Gii with our opponent in a T-shirt?
definitely. you just have to go 2-on-1 if he defends by keeping his elbow on the mat.
Even though 50/50 guard is gay as fuck and annoys me when I see it, I thought it was badass watching Keenan pull this of on which ever Miyao it was. It was a badass transition at the tournament.
it's possible...

damn it, i thought that i got a text message at 1:27 :(
Without the gi, probably not.
Is 50/50 legal for white belts? Looks kinda like a reap
GetFit WithMe , Yes. A knee reap is your leg from outside to inside, turning their knee to their inside. The 50/50 is from the inside to outside.
Greg Jennings ahhh thank you 👌😂

u have 2 be taller than your opponent for this to work
Sure, IF the 250 pound guy was doing 50/50 guard and grappling only.
Yep - there's not a SINGLE example of this working; let alone against high level competition! He's just trolling you to subdue the competition from emerging with techniques that 'work', right??
derr this will never work...ederrrrpppp
We have the same name
this will never work
