Things that got me into X3:
    1. Small and portable. You can work out in a closet if you need to.
    2. Can do the big 4 and most other movements you'd ever need for way cheaper than a barbell/rack/weights. You can get about 80% to a full gym experience, which is good enough for most people.
    3. Dead simple programming and quick workouts mean you never have an excuse not to use it. Can also teach to others easily.
    4. Provides good level of resistance and actually works. People have good results on it.
    5. Safety. If you don't have the muscles for the big bands yet, you simply can't move them. Feels safer than most barbell setups, even with safeties set.
    Then came Harambe:
    1. More solid, better materials, higher weight rating. Smoother rotation of bars.
    2. Wider bar and footplate (though I got the clench footplate, as it's even wider and I'm tall). The long blue straps also allow for back squats, which are comfier and easier to get into than the front squats for me.
    3. More bands that allow for smaller increments for smooth progressive overload. Especially with the 5lb and 10lb bands.
    4. Handles allow for alternate and accessory movements like flies, lateral raises, comfier pull aparts, better ROM chest press, and trap-bar/neutral squats/deads.
Thanks for introducing me to this type of exercise. I love it and it's been great so far. Been having a good bulk. Yours was one of the first videos I saw when I was looking for reviews.

Dr. J owes you some money, Mike. Over six months ago I heard about the product and was intrigued. I started researching it. If I remember right, your review is what put me over the edge. In fact, X3 is how I found your channel. I am a X3 convert now. Been doing it religiously for 6 months now after consistently working out with weights for the 18 months before that.
It’s been great for me. I continue to gain strength and my workouts are much shorter. But training to failure on each exercise is no joke and takes a lot of mental discipline. As far as the length of the workouts, at least double the workout times that X3 claims. Sure, if you don’t rest between sets, maybe you could do it in 10 minutes. But you may pass out too. And you won’t be able to do as many reps if you are huffing and puffing from the previous set. I get my best strength gains when I rest fully until my heart rate has recovered to a normal range.

I’ve commented on some of your X3 videos in the past. I’m chiming in here because I’m still using it during the work week when I travel. Sometimes, in the nicer hotels with decent gyms, they’re always packed. Sometime I end up in not so nice hotels, and the gym is empty but it sucks. I bought X3 and added on the travel case and I have not looked back. I workout with it 4 weekdays in my hotel room, then my TG Fit on the weekends. I feel great, couldn’t recommend more. I will say, I cannot do one set to failure. I do one until I feel kind of “irritated” with the motion. Then I rest for 30-60 seconds and then do a second set to failure. That’s just what works for me.

I created a four way split with all of the exercises listed in the Force app. I plan on doing the lifts for a few weeks and then testing with the Force bar at the end of each month. Your encouragement to do the exercises that user wants to do was my inspiration. Thank you for the great videos you put out.

I've been using the X3 for about 1.5 years now. I love the system. The original bands and the Performance bands are of the highest quality. I do use Serious Steel 32" and 37" bands for about half of the exercises, because shortening the longer bands can be a PITA. I wish X3 would make shorter Performance bands. I got mine during a sale for $399, and I think that price is what the system should run for all the time.

Great video, Mike. Although the implements themselves are slightly different, the concept is identical to that of the 'Power Base' sold by Mike Flynt ('The Senior'). His company, Powerbase Fitness, sold them for several years; however, they're no longer produced, & that name is now used by a totally unrelated company. The biggest differences between it & the X3 is that the plate on the Power Base was hard plastic, & it used tubular rather than flat bands for resistance. (That, and the price - he sold them for around $150.00 or so. To be fair, that was a lot more twenty years years ago than it is now.)

I got the X3 because of this channel and your feedback on it. I'm not a disciple of Dr J (like some) and not a huge fan of the Facebook group either for that matter but I bloody love the product. It took me a 3-6 months to get my head around how to use it properly and actually go to failure with each set. I'm honestly surprised with how good my results are considering the reduced workout time. I used to go to the gym 5 times a week and workout for 90mins. I now workout 4 days a week and my workouts take around 30mins (I add a few extra exercises). This is the sweet spot for me. No injuries, can workout anywhere, quick and effective. People shit on it because Dr J makes a lot of bold claims, whilst I mightn't agree with everything he says as far as I'm concerned its been the best purchase I've made. It seems expensive but once you get it you realize its worth the money.
Whilst I'm here, Mike can you do a video on the Vector Overload straps? (I also purchased the Vector squat belt over the X3 belt based your advice - its great, so thank you again.

I bought into the X3 craze back in 2018 after seeing it online somewhere. The concept sounded good and I like trying out new products so I bought it. I also got a pretty good discount on it. I bought mine when it came with the Pro bar and thin plastic plate, neither of which are very good. I later bought the Elite bar by itself when it was offered for sale to current owners. I never bought either of their metal plates because of reports of band damage when using them.
It sells well because it's marketed well and the short simple workouts appeal to a lot of people who don't have a lot of time to workout or people who just don't want to spend a lot of time working out. It's also one of the first bar, band, plate systems that was really marketed well and now it's kind of become a household name in the fitness industry for people wanting to workout with resistance bands and related equipment. I still own my X3 system but prefer the Harambe system and is what I use the most when using these types of systems.

I originally bought the X3 for the portability. However, I find myself using this more than my at home OPB, rack, and dumbbells. In 20 minutes the X3 can provide a solid workout that would take well over an hour with a traditional weights. This tool works well enough in a time crunch but does lack variety so I still lift weights when I have more time.

Its so hard to try to pitch one of these things to a friend or relative though. I was skeptical of it myself and bought it on BF just to try it.

I love reviews like this that revisit gear, so that I can get a feeling for how it holds up to more recently reviewed products. I encourage you to occasionally revisit random gear like this.
I don’t own anything X3 yet, but I appreciate the innovation of baseplate and bar system to make resistance bands have a more free weight like user interface, as well as standardizing the band tension with repeatable geometry. The bar and baseplate are less portable than what I’m looking for (for backpacking), which is the main reason I don’t own one yet.

    • @markturner4639
      @markturner4639 2 місяці тому +1

@@maxthenova it’s evolving, but I’m determined not to lose too much fitness on long hikes. I actually think poor protein intake is the main reason for losing muscle in backcountry hikes, but that’s a different topic.
I’ve given myself a budget of eight ounces for fitness gear, but I’d like to get it under four. A single 41” resistance band can do a lot of the upper body, adding in offset pushups (almost, but not quite one arm at a time) and pull-ups (trees permitting). Doubled, I have figured out a leg routine (working one leg at a time, relying on body weight for adding load). I have also figured out a routine for upper body that worked with the band doubled, so I will get some 20” bands (usually sold in pairs, which has the advantage of a spare when I tear them up in the woods) to simplify my gear.
I’m experimenting with a diy nylon strap for isometrics along the line of Chris at NoLimitSquad. If I can convince myself that I can progress with isometrics without feedback, that would be the ultimate ultra light setup. But I worry that I’ll “cheat” if I don’t have the feedback like the digital readout of the Isochain ( and I’ll never carry that weight on my back).
Feel free to make fun of me, I’m open for any ideas!

limited in terms of leg exercises. You can really, really put a hurt on your legs using resistance bands as opposed to the bullworker, and if you add a foot plate, you can go even heavier. Bar or no bar.

Bought some serious steel bands and some attachments(like the innstar bar, and some jhooks) and its objectively comparable to the x3. I probably do have around $200 invested in my system. Think i paid $100 for the bands, like $60 for the bar and the jhooks and like $12 for the 2x12.

No independent rotation. The bar is so tiny it fits inside the knurling of a real olympic barbell. The plate still shreds bands and all posts in the group about it get deleted or not allowed to post. Since its inception they have yet to produce a kit without problems. The Harambe and Clench bars and plates are way ahead in quality and function.

@@sprocketdogs4964 I appreciate you adding your comments and while I've not said their "quality sucks" I have said other brands make better products. I also made a video showing the X3 cutting bands. Main point of this video was to discuss some of the factors as to why it outsells and spawned other systems.

@@hybridresistance he hit it big during Covid. The market is saturated now. X3 and other systems are popping up all over the used market. I like his concept but the original two bars and plastic plates would break. The group has turned into a commercial for trainers. I would say any information you get directly from him is questionable. The last video he put up and immediately took down was a joke. The video showed him in a non photoshop setting lol. I can’t believe anything he says.
I like your channel and appreciate the other reviews.

    Hey Mike,
Good stuff. I'm on week 55 of doing the X3, almost exclusively. The biggest "pro" is the simplicity of the system and doing the workout in my home. It's been about 20 years since I've worked out a full year in a row!
UPDATE: NOW, I'm getting more radicalized under the cult of Mentzer and Jones, I'm obviously a big fan of one rep to failure, but now I've also been implementing ONE SET per workout, full intensity. I'm only a few weeks in, but I LOVE it. One day I do upper body and the next day lower body, rest, repeat two days in a row and rest on the weekend. Literally 4 workouts a week, a total of 20 minutes. And I get 72 hours of rest between each upper/lower body workout. One week I do "heavy" up to 20 reps, the next week I do "light" up to 100 reps. My one set does take between 2-5 minutes to complete!

Thanks, Brian as always. And just so everybody knows I believe it was you who finally brought me to pull the trigger and try this thing a year ago. It’s been all downhill since… totally kidding, really appreciate the suggestion and push to try something I otherwise wouldn’t have
