I've been using X3 system for over 3 years but when I found 27-inch Serious streel bands it made a difference for me as the shorter bands made doing presses and squats with the Vector belt that much harder with less slack. I think the X3 to be a good investment but learning about other possible solutions is well worth it. I look forward to doing squats now instead of holding the bar upright. Thank you for your time at testing and great instructions and comments.
For the cost of this thing you can buy a gorilla bow with the full kit of bands plus 4x 90 pound bands for a 360 lb bench. It’s actually the primary item I use outside of my total gym. For those into bulking, X3 is probably a better option, but if you’re using your total gym to build lean muscle and maintain flexibility, gorilla bow all the way (or any of the much cheaper alternatives)
@@hybridresistance I actually have two! They break down into thirds and are pretty compact for travel. You’d think the solid one would be capable of holding more resistance, but at least according to gorilla, they’re the same. Take mine with me any time I’ll be away for more than a day or two.
I bought it and have done the first two days. I am very pleased with the quality and the instructions, very professional. I like the portability. The concept of variable resistance is real, I can really feel it on the squats and deadlifts. The OHP is beyond my capabilities because of prior injuries. I plan on using this as my strength training and hopefully it will make me a better rower as well. Great review as well.
X3 user here. I have a prior shoulder injury and am 6'2 so the white band is actually pretty heavy for me too. Step down a band or two and focus on slow, controlled reps until you can do 40, then move up to the white band. You want to look for the serious steel purple band and maybe orange band to help with progressive overload.
The X3 was designed as a very low-rep high-intensity way of safely stimulating faster muscle growth; in a portable package. Bands are superior for joint health; however care must be taken with using any weight training system. Proper form is still very important.
It's a short bar because the anchor are on the end. If the anchors were further out the tension would be greater. They make the user adapt to the product rather than allow the product to adapt to the user. Especially for the chest press, a wider grip is beneficial for many users. The platform likewise limits the ability to vary the resistance. When you are standing on the bands you can put your feet wider to increase the tension or have slack between your feet to increase the tension even further. It's a shame because one of the great benefits to resistance band training is that by doing things like changing your distance from the anchor point and by combining bands you can have infinite and instant scalability, but this system takes away the benefit. For example, when I do a chest press with a fixed anchor point, I can start at one distance, and when I reach failure, i can slide my feet back just an inch or so and grind out a few more reps. Likewise if i realized there's not enough resistance, I just slide forward a bit and continue. You can't do that with this system. 8 exercises is no where near enough variety for any but the most absolute beginners -- especially with 3 being isolation exercises -- bicep curl, tricep press and calf raise. Likewise, 1 set isn't enough volume for anyone other than a complete beginner. The recommended rep ranges of 15-40 is, again, an example of the user adapting to the equipment. There's not enough scalability in the resistance under this very simple program so they have you do an extremely high amount of volume before making the big jump to the next band. This is another result of them taking away one of the primary benefits of resistance bands. Also, with this system, the resistance is often both inadequate and too much in this system. At the bottom of several motions, it is apparent there is no resistance. This is very visible and important particularly on the squat -- resistance at the bottom of the squat is critical to increasing strength and hypertrophy. And then the user is unable to complete the range of motion because the resistance is too much. So you wind up with a very limited range of effective motion, ie. where there is actual resistance. Again this is an example of this system undermining one of the principle benefits of resistance band training -- instant and infinite scalability. If only working out for 10 minutes is important to you, you can do that with just about any system. You still won't get the volume you need though unless you are a beginner. Also, if you truly are going to failure, the recovery time suggested by this system is inadequate for most people. Charging people $550 for this is unconscionable in my opinion.
I have been using the Total Gym Fit for around a year (ish) now; and I have also tried out some of the accessories you’ve reviewed, both TG and non TG products, along the way. One of those is a set of bands from Undersun fitness, which I used for a little while to add resistance to my workout on back and leg days. Initially it was great, but I eventually moved to the weight plates you recently highlighted because I like having consistent resistance throughout the entirety of the exercise motion. With bands it seems like the first 3rd of the motion they aren’t even there, and the full resistance is only at the peak of the motion. Because of this, I don’t really use my Undersun bands at home that much anymore; but I do use them when I travel. In fact, I am in a hotel room this morning as I watched this video. I paused on the “X3 Workout Poster” and found the I could replicate (or, nearly replicate) all of those exercises with my band set that was less than $100.00! If I couldn’t replicate, I was able to do an alternate exercise to target the same muscle. Maybe the bar is nice like you mention, but I’m sure there are a lot of nice bars out there that are more affordable. In the end, I guess it all comes down to personal preference and what motives each individual to work out consistently, so I am not going to trash a product that might be working for someone out there - in fact I wish them good health! As for me, I can’t wait to get back home to my Total Gym tomorrow!
Excellent and detailed comment! Thanks for sharing all of that. You're spot on that while I enjoy band workouts from time to time, I can't wait to get back on my TG ideally.
I love working out with bands because i love working out outdoors but the point you made about tje resistance curve is 100% correct . This b.s about " variable resistance " being the key to why bands are so great for muscle building is total b.s . Research shows that hypertrophy is greater in the first half of a rep ( eg the bottom half in a bench press ) than the second, top half ,but using the bands thats were the bands are weakest , like you sometimes cant feel it much .
The Harambe system seems to have longer bars and better sling systems for the bands to make it feel a lot better. I personally haven't tried either but nearly everyone I've come across that has tried both has preferred the Harambe system, but still super expensive. Personally I found that using the Innstar Resistance band Bar (same one you reviewed), a set of loop style resistance bands (nearly any 41 inch set will do) and some triangle links to loop the bands through along with either my own body or using a "Step" platform (which can give a good pre-stretch) works WAY good for heavier and harder lifts. All of this was less than $150 and all from Amazon. So there are lots of ways of doing the same thing without spending over 3 times the same amount. But others prefer a set system from a company or person to avoid any worries; and I respect that. The dogma among X3 Bar fans is... a lot. But I guess there are dogmatic types in nearly any brand, training style, etc. Clench Fitness has a resistance band footplate that many love and its far more Band friendly and won't cut or dig into your bands... but... its $300 dollars or so last I checked... yeesh. Great bands, great products but the footplate is overpriced to me. I actually HATE using a bar for banded "bench press" exercises and find banded flys from waist to chest height anchor points to be WAY more efficient and fun for me. I just don't think there is a good banded bench press out there that isn't really limiting or super awkward. But the Total Gym solves that with the same band bar and extra length on the pulley cords. I love seeing more people review this and help show the limitations of the X3 system. It's good, but limited and not the whole package it appears to be and wish they would make far more options to help make it a full system.
Thank for sharing all of that. I heard of the Harambe system, but never looked into it. Like you said about the innstar bar/stepper combo. There's a lot of people who've used that same setup and have been going strong with the same equipment.
I'm with you. There's no way I will spend what he's asking for that bar, bands and platform. The bar is too short and I believe that with such a short bar the exercises would be awkward. I believe they would be harmful to the wrists and uncomfortable on the back.
Mostly positive review for me. The chest exercises leaves you wanting. But it’s the single best piece of equipment for leg workouts that I’ve ever used.
I love the X3. I have the new paraforce bands and the new X3 force bar which will show your total force during a workout on your smartphone. Each workout you want to beat your last force score. Very interesting to look at with a live load feed with a graph and total weight ect. The paraforce bands are heavier then the ones shipped with the original bar and they move smoother with each movement. Maybe not for everyone but it’s very versatile and portable. With my set up it’s a portable smart gym. Amazing.
@@PathofCultivation it’s amazing for joint pain. Less force at the bottling which is what you want since that is when your joints are most vulnerable. I’m 30 and have been using X3 for 4 years. Will never touch a weight again since they overload joints and under-load muscles.
As for the band damage that you mentioned, it's the platform that damages the bands due to it being metal and not having smooth edges. It's a pretty common complaint with the X3 and John Jaquish says it's nothing to worry about, which I disagree with.
I did talk with customer service on this and yes, I heard the same thing from them. I trying to take their word for it, but I'd love to hear from other users. If it indeed does tear the band, I'd assume that these bands would't last a year to still be covered under warranty. But again, I'm trying to take their word for it that it's "ok".
One of the screwy things is that you have to already own the complete set before they will even sell you their longer 29" bar. Also, their previous footboard was generally preferred and did not have the sharp edges that scrape the bands.
As far as marketers / business guys go they are geniuses. The edges of the boards will mean eventually some bands will break and people will have to buy replacements every 2 years or so .
I've definitely had a change of heart and honestly DO like this Bar. If you want to pick one up and support the channel click this link and Use "MIKE" to save $50: www.jdoqocy.com/click-100825257-13511487 Also see my some of my follow up video here ua-cam.com/video/c696sOhwHsM/v-deo.html
Thank you for saving me $500. I've considered buying this multiple times but the price for what it actually is seemed a bit steep. I also read numerous negative comments on the band quality which really concerned me. The system may be simple but it also looked quite boring and very limited. Even watching you performing some of the movements seemed awkward and I doubt I'd want to keep up with it. I believe buying a less expensive system to supplement with the TG and for travel purposes just makes more sense. Great review!
I can see the bands set costing $70-100 for the size and I'd pay over $100 for a quality USA made bar, but justifying the other $200 for the sale price ( I paid $422) is steep for the functionality. But I will say the bar is cool.
My wife and I bought this two weeks ago. We love it. I'm seeing great improvement to my body so far. The person in this video wasn't following the instructions. You're supposed to spend two seconds down, two seconds up to exhaustion and then do half reps to exhaustion.. You do you but it's a great system.
You can easily do a diy band bar with a 2 to 3 foot pipe, slap some end caps with eye bolts, and triangular quick links. You are good to go. I made my own and will swap out the quick links and attach my bar to my Total Gyms pulley if I don't want to use bands. You get a bar customized to your needs and cost significantly less. Try it, you won't regret it.
Before I got x3 I had a knock off x3 and made a board from a thick kitchen chopping board and hockey pucks as feet. Solid as they come it was . Got the idea off buff bandit yt channel
I hate the x3 bar price. Hate it! I bought it thinking it would be a good investment in my health. It was. I'm 6 ft 250 (Started at 260). I have never in my life seen gains the way I do with this equipment. It doesn't hurt my joint or anything. Takes me about 15-20 minutes to complete my workouts and I feel it all day. I'm getting stronger and losing weight. I do not use his diet plan, though. I simply count calories and get lots of protein. I also supplement with perfect amino. Again, I hate the price, but I do love the equipment.
I ended up getting it but I was torn because A)the scummy marketing and B)he just is an asshole. However, the product is pretty good and I’ve fallen in love with bands
You guys have an inferior complex! Get over someone who achieves success. Do you not buy property because all real estate agents are lying pieces of shit!
I improvised using a 5 foot inch diameter barbell, carabiner clips and a thick chopping board. I can perform the exact same exercises in the x3 programme.
Really requires focus on positioning and technique. This I can attest to after 4 yrs usage and still using, and I am fairly discerning. Key is time under tension and really getting to failure so push hard and ease into bigger bands. It’s like everything…people consider it a fad when in fact the issue is their own commitment and discipline around whatever. X3 for sure fits in this category and every time you workout I recommend just observing technique in the videos and really tuning into how his speaks to technique
its an ok system if you're coming from having nothing or need portability. I have the x3, x3 long bar, gh accelerator and harambe and dedicated around 6 months to pure band training. It "worked" i saw some gains, but your points about awakardness in some moves like OHP and chest press/tricep are spot on. For my body - 1 shoulder movement just cant compare to the gains i get from an OHP and lateral raise and rear delt movement. X3 will say the OHP is sufficent to hit all 3 heads and I just didnt find that to be true. Tricep work its terrible compared to a cable setup or anchor point. Ive moved on to just going to Planet fitness, yes it takes me 1 hour but im making way better gains VS the 25mins i used to spend per session of X3. Overall its great for starters who wont goto the gym but its claims of superior hypertrophy are... marketing
Thanks for sharing all that Trevor. All but the triceps, I've grown to like much more than I did since this video. I think the chest ideally needs to have the addition of a banded push-up at least to help supplement the press. For triceps, I feel they work best with this bar when anchored to a pull-up bar. How do you like the Harambee?
The reps are supposed to performed slowly (2 seconds up, 2 seconds down). The bands do fray quite easily, however, and it can be hard to feel a full range of motion (especially deadlift and chest press).
For about 150 bucks and 30 minutes of your time you can make a better product with board and bands and I wanted 36 inches. Home Depot and Amazon. Baseboard was a 1 inch cutting board with plastic feet. Like I said the short bar from x3 was a deal killer. For those that don't have a sliding trainer yet, better putting your money towards that b4 the X3.
It's possible to do many of the X3 exercises just by using a band, the total gym leg press attachment, and the total gym weight bar. Works fairly well for front squats and romanian deadlifts. I also prefer banded pushups instead of trying to bench press with a band.
@bob g in technicality yes but you aren't working all the stabilizers and core the same way as when you are standing with it not even close. If I strap the 300 lb band on that squat stand it's breaking for sure!
Thanks for a great review. While I did not like the price, basically for the same reasons you mentioned I will definitely be avoiding this product. I am sticking with my TG FIT.
I TOTALLY agree with you on this!! Although I do not own a Total gym,...I'm edging closer and closer to getting one. I have been a 100% Elastics convert since 2014 and must say that anyone who says that elastics are easier on the joints must be either using them as a tool for rehab (which they do excel at) or are NOT pushing them hard enough. I pushed the bands to excess forces and was using them as powerlifting tools and honestly, they have done some damage to my fingers (joints) and wrists (tendons)years later. There is something about that awkward force and stress on that elastic pressure as it puts unstable and excessive force on sensitive ligaments and tendons at the peak extension. I had some aches and pains with free weights and cable gyms in my day, but it was never as damaging or as painful as what has resulted from elastics. it is very difficult to explain. As I have now aged and my interests have dramatically changed as well as space availability, I'm thinking very seriously about switching and committing 100% to the Total Gym to maintain my strength and health moving forward. I think it's time to really give this equipment a SERIOUS consideration and leave my old per-conceived notions at the door. It's not a gimmick in that the resistance is real. You can make it as easy or as challenging as you want just as you would with free weights or pin based cable gyms. I think the Fit Version coupled with a nice set of adjustable PowerBlock type of select dumbbells is all I will need and allow me to keep my workouts at around 30 minutes 4x week. I would still go heavy and hard because that is just me,....but I think in the end my joints will thank me for going back to traditional resistance.
Great comment, thanks for all that information. Definitely should give a Total Gym a try or at least to supplement with what you said with free weights. But obviously, I'm more than sold on what a TG can do and what it's capable of. Always could try the "trial period" I mentioned in the video that TG offers. For sure a shameless plug, but the link in the description has that discount for their "anniversary edition".
I just got into a new house and I found a bowflex xtreme for 75 dollars it is in perfect shape and has the 410 lb rod pack on it. The chest press and Flys seem to be better than on the total gym but not so much on back workout. Using both is a perfect variety another good review mike.
Don’t forget they sell a longer bar. Agree the tricep press is not great but I love the calf raises. Yes also agree with my x3 bar I never only do 1 set as I’m used to couple of warm ups then go onto the big band. Also there’s the orange band for chest which u will solve your high rep problem. Sliding bench with undersun bands workout & then finish off with x3 push/pull now that’s a nice session.
Two best for tricep on here: 1- overhead tricep extension sit on it singled... 2nd best is a JM press off the forehead... Calf raises I do a shrug at the top turn it into a calf/trap excecise. Calves burn like crazy over 30 slow reps you can't even walk not sure what he was talking about. You can also do a reverse grip chest press and single leg squat
Yes I’m puzzled that calf raises wasn’t a good feel as I always found them a stinger. Not tryed the sit down tcep yet . High reps also was an issue but again use a heavier band and then u can’t get higher reps & also slow down a lot. X3 just so different to other band work. Read a comment about gorilla bow somewhere on here 2, x3 bands would break a gorilla bows attachment connection surely?
@@captainguns9761 yah calves you can do seated calf raises as well I do with a barbell pad doubled to hit soleus. There's a learning curve with high reps but once your body adapts it works. Your body only know progressive overload. You overload then the body grows. I put on 20 pounds of muscles in 2 years with high reps bands only. Gorilla bow is weak sauce their heaviest band is 100 lbs I don't know anyone serious that uses gorilla bow
I did actually think the calf raises were pretty decent when I gave them another shot on here. I felt them a little higher up on my calves. I mentioned that in my recent video. That orange band feels good though on the chest press?
Thinking about this. I already have a Total gym chuck Norris edition with a. fly bird bench and 90LB adjustable dumbbells. I have loop bands and some Acbee band handles I got off amazon. Plus an elliptical trainer in another room. Would this be a good edition in your opinion? I get decent workouts already with a mix of equipment I have. The price point isn't good at all.
@@HNunyabusiness I would definitely suggest trying out some cheaper alternative before investing into something like this. I made a bunch of other videos on the channel about alternatives, one of which being the GeKu bar. it’s definitely cheaper but worth it to see if you’d actually use the hook-based bars
I live in England and am considering buying the X3 kit, but first want to read John Jaquish's book. I've only been going to the gym for around 8 months and having sessions with a PT - would you say this is suitable for near beginners?
I'd actually say it's ideal for beginners, minus that the heavier bands might not be accessible at first. A lot of people I hear from are from people that are just starting out and looking for a simple system to use.
@@hybridresistance Okay. Thanks for letting me know. Just need to decide between the X3 and Harambe. It's ensuring I am carrying out each exercise correctly without a PT that I worry about - do both systems come with apps and support to help with this?
Doing rows and curls with bands actually makes zero sense given the strength curve of those movements. It is counter productive given the row is hardest when you are closest to the chest and the curl is most difficult at mid point.
Hey Mike, I am doing my workouts exclusively on TotalGym right now. However, do you still think it is worth to purchase a pair of bowflex dumbbell or Powerblocks for biceps and chest exercises? Thanks.
It somewhat depends on your budget / goals. I always have said that great additions to supplement the TG would be a good set of adjustable dumbbells, bench, and some resistance bands. The dumbbells might be good for your chest goals with a bench, but with biceps (IMO), a dumbbell doesn't come close to a TG.
Total gym fit is $1200! X3 is $400. I'm not saying it's better or worse, but comparing the two is like comparing a BMW 4 series with a Honda Civic (price wise)
The platform needs rollers at the edges, to reduce friction, doesn't it ? Of course there will always be some friction since the band extends, but rollers would definitely reduce it. Maybe small diameters, such as 1cm (to minimize the surface of contact and, hence, friction, again). I should practice instead of thinking about gear modifications, but I can't help 😉
One thing I have to say... $500+ for a bar and some bands, or around $1000 for a really comprehensive full experience full gym setup (this is various company versions or a DIY items), and you have to feel this band-gym is seriously ripping you off! That's a LOT of cheddar for little hardware. Seeing what my money can buy, I just don't see this is worth that price tag. I have to agree, maybe if it was MSRP $200 and even then buy it on sale...
For sure, I hear you on that. I made a vid on the price here ua-cam.com/video/utzAQtx2CiI/v-deo.html and one on how to just use a pipe recently ua-cam.com/video/C0_NIbFLmeE/v-deo.html there's also some knock off bars I've covered.
Many of the people that love this that write in to me say it's because it minimizes joint pain. I actually think it's because people are going slower and with lighter weight. Here's a video I made on that ua-cam.com/video/e79sVLu7eUk/v-deo.html
TG is $1200. X3 is $400. I think they're both overpriced! But X3 is 1/3 the cost, so if anything, TG is the one that's too expensive (especially if you can get the same results on both).
One of my bands literally tore after 1 week of use doing overhead press. Customer service hasn't responded to me in days and has left me hanging. Not a good look. Has anyone else had trouble with customer service or band quality?
Did they still not get back to you? I had a similar issue and they got back to me I’d say in about a day. For me at least it was how I was using it that causes the bands to prematurely wear. Regardless I have no doubt they’d send you a replacement.
@@hybridresistance I commented on a lot of their channels and they finally responded to me on Facebook saying that they will eventually get back and things are crazy logistically with a product launch. No time frame, etc. No response to my support email. Still feel like that's not a good excuse for a new customer that had a major platform malfunction within a week or so. I like the platform but I don't understand how the bands could snap so easily with a simple overhead press.
10 years ago I was deadlifting with a machine like the one you’re using. After a few sets my hands were sweaty and on the up I lost my grip and that rubber band snapped right down onto the back of my Achilles and my heel. I couldn’t walk for a week and still feel the pain. I do not recommend these dumb rubbers bands.
I caved also and purchased it, should be here soon. Didn't really want to drop that $ but I love the regular one so much, I had to try it as well. Awesome to hear you like it.
@@hybridresistance The money part sucks. There is nothing like it out there I have seen yet. X3 iquakity is good kinda forced to pay the funds..I love both the small bar and the large bar...each size is best for certain exercises...I love experimenting..so fun...like for example on the small bar..if I need to tighten the slack..I just wrap do a couple little extra loops on the hooks...everyday I feel ripped and sore 😊
@@timacosta1653 I actually think it's worth it all things considered, especially being made in the USA with USA parts. In just messing with it a bit, the chest press for me makes it worth it.
Congratulations on this review. You are the very very few individuals that gave an honest prospective of the X3 Bar. The range of motion is very limited and awkward especially doing chest press movements. I’m a tall guy at 6’ 2” and there is no way that bar and band will work my chest. The arm curls movement with that bar looks like torture and the foot plate appears to be a flat out danger to the bans as well, especially with the sharp edges on the bottom. I admire your restrain on not pointing out the negatives but at $500.00 that setup should be taken to the back of a barn and shot!
Here's a video showing how I use an X3 workout. As time has passed, I might tweak this a bit, but mainly I think it's good to do a working set to failure, but I do break the dogma of exceeding sets if need be. I mainly though use my x3 alongside other tools in my workout ua-cam.com/video/6keFKQCh0iM/v-deo.html
Elastic bands & X3 are NOT ideal, from the perspective of building muscle. Muscles have a “strength curve” which usually cause them to be stronger when they are elongated, and LESS strong when they are contracted (shortened). So, the ideal resistance curve of an exercise would be such that it provides MORE resistance when the muscle is elongated, and LESS resistance when the muscle is contracted. Elastic bands do the opposite. They load the muscle less when the muscle is elongated (i.e., stronger), because the elastic band has not yet been stretched. Then, they load the muscle more as the muscle is shortened (i.e., weaker), because the band is increasing its length and tension. This is a very unfortunate aspect of using elastic bands as the source of resistance, in exercise. This “backward” resistance curve (regardless of angle), is less than optimally productive for muscle building, and is also LESS comfortable, to a degree. Using elastic bands tends to leave you wanting more resistance where you're stronger (in the early phase of the range of motion), and wanting LESS resistance where you're weaker (in the latter phase of the range of motion). In short, if you are traveling and still want to do something, a resistance band (or the ridiculously overpriced X3) is fine, but they are very inferior to free weights, cables and machines.
You are going way too fast. That TUT range is supposed to be 2 seconds down, 2 second up, slight pause at the top of the rep. Slow and controlled, i was doing it at first like it was weights, ITS NOT. SLOW DOWN.
To give them the benefit of the doubt, I will say the bar is unique and quality made. I do like that it's made in the USA. Just the full price >$500 is a little much to justify the functionality.
So it’s overpriced and it sucks The average person would do better spending $200 on a couple kettlebells and learning to swing and clean and press them
This is an older video, but for sure I've covered MANY knock offs and cheaper options also created a product (collar hooks) where you can turn any 2" collar into a resistance band bar.
Eric,..I totally agree. I could never quite put my finger on it but every time I saw that guy pitch that gym AND THAT price,....all I could see were giant red flags waving around me. I mean seriously,...I managed to construct my own solid steel bars and connectors as well as finding bands far superior and longer lasting with just a day of research. ALL for under $140! Regardless,..I do not like what that type of resistance can do to your tendons and joints through time and "heavy" usage. It's not as forgiving as they would lead you to believe. It's time for me to get back to traditional resistance that just feels more natural to my body. This is just my opinion though so I understand that others might vary. I think its time for a Total Gym FIT with a pair of select tech dumbells.
@@ToddDolce Agree made a 36 inch iron bar with connectors including a extra large cutting board with plastic feet and good bands under $150. Too many plans online. The short bar research is sketch due to lack of studies and likely more grounded in cheaper shipping.
I've followed him on other social media for awhile, and he definetly comes across as arrogant and narcissistic (but having said this, he does mean well and has good intentions).

there are literally professional sports teams who use the x3 and only the x3
The x3 is head and shoulders above the other band sets.

Thanks for that great comment. The product has been slowly growing on me.
Low rep??? Really have you even tried the X3?
It is not low rep at all .....your wrong
I have been using it for 2 years and love it ....its works ...its all compound movements .....follow the program dont change it ....
Very well said
I have been using the Total Gym Fit for around a year (ish) now; and I have also tried out some of the accessories you’ve reviewed, both TG and non TG products, along the way.
There’s a reason x3 users don’t use the others. It’s night and day.
Completely opposite. I’m 6’1 250lbs. Love it. Lifted weights for decades, happy with the switch
Soft
I love the X3. I have the new paraforce bands and the new X3 force bar which will show your total force during a workout on your smartphone. Each workout you want to beat your last force score. Very interesting to look at with a live load feed with a graph and total weight ect. The paraforce bands are heavier then the ones shipped with the original bar and they move smoother with each movement. Maybe not for everyone but it’s very versatile and portable. With my set up it’s a portable smart gym. Amazing.
That sounds really cool!
How did you get the x3 force bar?
How is it for joint pain? That's my concern as I get older.
@@PathofCultivation it’s amazing for joint pain. Less force at the bottling which is what you want since that is when your joints are most vulnerable. I’m 30 and have been using X3 for 4 years. Will never touch a weight again since they overload joints and under-load muscles.
I often wondered about this product. Thanks for a great review.
No problem.
I don't own this product, but I wonder if you were to apply duct tape to the sharp edges would that mitigate the issue?
One of the screwy things is that you have to already own the complete set before they will even sell you their longer 29" bar. Also, their previous footboard was generally preferred and did not have the sharp edges that scrape the bands.
As far as marketers / business guys go they are geniuses. The edges of the boards will mean eventually some bands will break and people will have to buy replacements every 2 years or so .
@@iang8169i know people who have had theirs for almost 5 years. No issues. If you do, they send you another band.
I agree. That at least is a positive. Now replace those bands with some US made steel plates for that bar and you'll have my undivided attention.
Bodylastics for the WIN, price wise and all.
@@cobra4961, that's what I use.
A yoga mat a set of dumbells and a pull-up bar are pretty good. Thanks for the review!
Does it help for joint pain? That's my main concern as I get older.
@@kcludlow
I bought Undersun resistance bands for about $60. There is no bar but you can do a lot of exercises without a bar, or make your own.
That's an excellent suggestion. A pipe would certainly be a great cost effective way for a bar for bands.
Before I got x3 I had a knock off x3 and made a board from a thick kitchen chopping board and hockey pucks as feet. Solid as they come it was . Got the idea off buff bandit yt channel
It’s not the same
I hate the x3 bar price.
John Jaquish, the creator, is the one reason I never consider this; way too many dogmatic claims for me.
I ended up getting it but I was torn because A)the scummy marketing and B)he just is an asshole. However, the product is pretty good and I’ve fallen in love with bands
Indeed, he is so obnoxious that you just distrust his product as well.
You guys have an inferior complex! Get over someone who achieves success. Do you not buy property because all real estate agents are lying pieces of shit!
I bought a brand new in the box Apex G5 Total Gym for $270. This band system is pretty outrageous in price.
That's a great deal
I improvised using a 5 foot inch diameter barbell, carabiner clips and a thick chopping board. I can perform the exact same exercises in the x3 programme.
Clench does make good stuff and they are also good people
At that price it should be a cambered bar and have a platform for the back to keep the band off your shoulder blades or rubbing on your arms.
I actually made 1 with a wooden dowel with some eye bolts that I can use with resistance bands and also with my total gym👍
its an ok system if you're coming from having nothing or need portability.
LOL, Pizza Planet.
The reps are supposed to performed slowly (2 seconds up, 2 seconds down). The bands do fray quite easily, however, and it can be hard to feel a full range of motion (especially deadlift and chest press).
I did read that and performed that tempo on some sets, but ultimately just started to going off of feeling.
I agree. I will give the x3 a plus on the overall design.
@bob g in technicality yes but you aren't working all the stabilizers and core the same way as when you are standing with it not even close. If I strap the 300 lb band on that squat stand it's breaking for sure!
Thank you 💚👍

Appreciate your review
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks for a great review. While I did not like the price, basically for the same reasons you mentioned I will definitely be avoiding this product. I am sticking with my TG FIT.
The product has grown on me more since this review, but obviously I'm with you on the FIT being the better option.
You can get one off craigslist for less than 100 bucks.
Thanks for the honest review!
No problem at all. Thanks for watching.
I just got into a new house and I found a bowflex xtreme for 75 dollars it is in perfect shape and has the 410 lb rod pack on it. The chest press and Flys seem to be better than on the total gym but not so much on back workout. Using both is a perfect variety another good review mike.
Thanks Mike. I have heard those pros about the bowflex hitting the chest. I can see where it would be an great compliment to a TG.
Thanks for the review. I think I will stick with my total gym. With this price point, I can buy the total gym Fit in Canada.
That would definitely be nice to reduce the friction.
Resistance bands are good on your joints, unlike heavy weights.
All the resistance without the load

I think you saw my email, but just for anyone else seeing this..I'll definitely make a video on this.
Great video. Thanks for the info!
No problem, thanks for watching
How is it for joint pain? That's my concern as I get older.
Many of the people that love this that write in to me say it's because it minimizes joint pain. I actually think it's because people are going slower and with lighter weight. Here's a video I made on that ua-cam.com/video/e79sVLu7eUk/v-deo.html
what rep range is suggested for the x3 workouts, or does it vary with each exercise.
I heard 2-3 seconds up and down keeping continuous flow/tension
@@hybridresistance okay thanks, but how many reps do you need to fail at before you add more or a thicker band.
I did purchase a knock off. Nothing wrong with it. However X3 bar is very expensive for what it is. Does not replace TG. Way overpriced
TG is $1200. X3 is $400. I think they're both overpriced! But X3 is 1/3 the cost, so if anything, TG is the one that's too expensive (especially if you can get the same results on both).
Love your videos!
Thank you.
Their bands are no better than any of the top brands on the market. I know this because a friend has X3 Bar.
Thanks Jose.

Finally, an honest review of this overhyped and overpriced gimmick!
Random question: How many sets and reps would you suggest on the X3 Bar workout?
Here's a video showing how I use an X3 workout. As time has passed, I might tweak this a bit, but mainly I think it's good to do a working set to failure, but I do break the dogma of exceeding sets if need be. I mainly though use my x3 alongside other tools in my workout ua-cam.com/video/6keFKQCh0iM/v-deo.html

Made a lot of videos since this one but this one talks about that very thing with a pipe ua-cam.com/video/C0_NIbFLmeE/v-deo.html

BTW, I did try it once a long time ago and did not like it. I am glad I went with the Total Gym. It gives me the kind of workout I am looking for.
The price. I can buy some good bands way cheaper and simply do deadlifts with my trainers on
You are going way too fast. That TUT range is supposed to be 2 seconds down, 2 second up, slight pause at the top of the rep. Slow and controlled, i was doing it at first like it was weights, ITS NOT. SLOW DOWN.
Yes, I address that on the next video. Thank you.
I like it
Seems like a waste of money. I agree with you.
To give them the benefit of the doubt, I will say the bar is unique and quality made. I do like that it's made in the USA. Just the full price >$500 is a little much to justify the functionality.
It’s been the best money I’ve ever spent lol
make more comparisson videos
Let me know what kind of comparisons you want to see. Thank you for the comment regardless, I will do that.
Why do you speak so Fast??
Combination of bad habit, having limited time, and watching everything at 1.5x speed
So it’s overpriced and it sucks
The average person would do better spending $200 on a couple kettlebells and learning to swing and clean and press them
I hear you, got to check out my recent video on it ua-cam.com/video/c696sOhwHsM/v-deo.html
Save your money and make one yourself....
This is an older video, but for sure I've covered MANY knock offs and cheaper options also created a product (collar hooks) where you can turn any 2" collar into a resistance band bar.
@@hybridresistance what is a collar hook?
You are moving way too fast.
Yes, definitely see my pinned comment.

💀 scam
Sorry no interest in this thing. Don't respect the guy.
Excellent comment. I do agree that traditional weights just feel better and more natural.
