Just spent an hour in the pool working with this drill. My crawl improved dramatically, better rhythm, less tiredness, smoother. You have really piqued my interest Adam.....

Less body mass when rotating? No, mass is the same, what changes is the profile when sideways, less resistance

I’m inspired by your videos. I’m 74 and swim 80 - 100 lengths in a 50 minute session 3 times a week. I still struggle with getting even rotation and use a pull bouy pretty much all the time as my legs still drag and impede my progress. I reduced my cadence last session and got down to 45 minutes for the 2.5Km. Huge improvement. Can’t wait to try out the drill in this video. Thanks and keep them coming.

So.......Adam, a wee update on me!!! I wasn't getting it atall.... and was sore....so I seen this video!! and after 2 days in the sea (which is hard!! as can't put a foot down!! - not where I swim anyways... and beaches here way too busy for a Scots lad like me!!) I GOT THIS DOWN TO A FINE ART!!! Was very hard like you said....but finally... this afternoon... I GOT IT!! and it feels amazing!! My wife said that's it!!! (she used to coach kids swimming back in Germany... but even she wants to learn this (YOUR super stroke!) - But it felt great!! I was zooming through the sea with no legs being used!!! Now, I'm gonna totally perfect it over the weekend.... then I guess I'll try and add the 2 flicks in... and the breath....I did have a freestyle snorkel trainer.. and used it this morning only for a few mins before chucking it!!! was hopeless!! I did better without it!! I can't wait to see how it all comes together (hopefully!!) over the weekend and next week.... We do have a big pool here in our Apartments... but I really don't like going into Chlorine.... sea water all the way for me!! Swimming in Bleach.. I just don't it!! Never have!! But hey.. may aswell learn in the sea as that's where I'll be doing it.... eh... (I'll see how I get on with it.. but might try and talk my nice lass into purchasing your vimeo....Least we could do is give you some reimbursement! but like I said, we aint doing too well financially at moment here...) - Hey... for first time in years.. My bikes are being neglected!! haha... and it'll soon be bike season again here!!! But stuff it... I'm more into this!! THANKS AGAIN FOR PUTTING THESE FREE VIDEOS UP... - Martin (Martin Mallorca Guiding)

Finally! So many videos mention hip initiated stroke, yet they only illustrate body rolling. This video zeros in on what hip driven is all about and how to drill to develop that 'neural pathway'.

I have a deformed left foot since birth and the times I've tried running I've always ended up with injuries. I have switched to swimming in the last few months and not only do I feel more fit, I have a great deal more mental clarity and focus. At first I found swimming so difficult even after having many lessons as a kid. I would get winded after a few laps. I have eagerly watched many of your videos and now 1) keep my head facing the bottom of the pool 2) rotating at the the hips and 3) focusing on gliding. Now I can easily swim 25-30 minutes without feeling winded at the end. My wife even said I'm starting to get abs which was unthinkable a year ago! Not only is swimming far easier now, I truly feel that what I often held as my limitations were never my true limit and there is usually room to expand ones capabilities if you simply get creative and practice! Thank you for all these lessons.

Try this: as the recovering hand enters the water, imagine the top hip connected by a rod to the entering hand, use the hip to push the imaginary rod and the entering hand forward into a perfectly horizontal body line from hips to the longest - most horizontal line you can make. Simultaneously to the hand entry, pull with the opposite arm / hand through the line of pull. You will realize exceptional forward movement. Repeat on the other side. Your stroke count will lower, your power will increase proportional to the hip drive and you will decrease your resistance with a horizontal body line.

11 strokes no kicks 25 seconds that’s pretty good. You could have easily talent 3 seconds off of that

Hi Adam. I'm 71 years old and swim a mile to 1.5 miles nearly every day. I'm not very tall (5'7'') and do 22 strokes per 25 metre length. Though my stamina is good, I'm not very fast. I have mastered the two beat kick and that helps me save energy. I keep my head level - facing the bottom of the pool and I have the same arm recovery that you demonstrate but I have watched other coaches demonstrating long distance front crawl and try as I might, I could never develop the seemingly effortless power to my stroke. Today I watched this video before going to the pool and decided to try this drill. I did not expect to be able to accomplish the kickless hip rotation without lots of practice.

beautiful man, accidentally discovered this when trying to make my breathing to t left easy (alternate sides every length in t pool. Makes ALL t diff when open water swimming if there’s any wind/chop). slows you down too, which suits all my cardiac surgery!

This is such a great drill! I've been struggling with my front crawl, and although I still can't execute this drill properly, I've noticed a significant overall improvement right away!
