Rendezvous with Simi Garewal - Aishwarya Rai
Вставка
- Опубліковано 6 лют 2025
- This was Aishwarya’s second rendezvous with me. The first was in 1999.
Now, she had grown into a woman who had experienced international acclaim - and also some personal pain. In our rendezvous she spoke about both…and much more…
Because Ash is so incredibly beautiful, I feel few people know or understand her as a person - they can’t go beyond her beauty! Believe me, she is one of the most affectionate and genuinely caring persons I know.
I wrote some verses for her at the end of our rendezvous - it expressed my thoughts about her…
Ash and Abhishek married soon after our rendezvous.
And now there is beautiful little Aaradhya. I hope I'm still around for her first interview!

I absolutely love how the questions here are so well formulated, she never invades the privacy of the individual she is interviewing (even if she does ask private questions, they are articulated in such a respectful manner)
SIMI, we need you back more than ever now!
The talk shows are absolutely trash now 😭

I feel like Aishwarya and Katrina have such similar personalities. Never talking bad about others, very guarded on their personal lives, very classy.
These qualities cud be one of the reasons i guess salman khan liked them. 😂

@@Destinyschild777 lol and you know that how?
Aish is not only the most beautiful woman on earth, but her vocabulary, her choice of words, communication skills and accent are also brilliant! she’s an intelligent speaker!
She is not the most beautiful woman, I have seen more beautiful women in other countries like lateen America and Mediterranean areas. But she is obviously much more prettier than many regular looking actresses like Julia Roberts or scarlet Johansson, I cant even believe why they are famous as very beautiful
@@Wishdom-j3b It is not true dear. I live in USA and some might consider her the most beautiful but no one of them I know. Most says she is very pretty, some says she is average pretty as an actress, some even don't know her name. Monica Bellucci , Adriana lima or Angelina jolie are considered prettier by majority and apart Angelina jolie other two are outsiders. Mentioning Ash the most beautiful actually started by Indian medias and many adapted later. Google works through a mechanism by ur search history. So if you are familiar with her, searched her before or from Indian subcontinent her name will pop up surely. But not from everywhere of the world. I searched several times, most of the time it says Monica Bellucci by popular vote. Usually it changes every 2 to 3 years. When a new uncommon pretty face becomes known through media, she is voted the most beautiful by people that year or for some years. But it changes every time another uncommon pretty face comes. Brazilian Adriana lima or Australian Miranda kerr is ruling the media here now. It was Ash's time once. But just some years ago Ash was voted 4th most beautiful woman when her 9 years older Italian Monica Bellucci was voted the most beautiful woman of the world and Ash's similar aged Angelina jolie was voted the 2nd most. And when i search the most beautiful woman of all time, Ash's name is not even mentioned in any of the lists even in top 50. So what you get from Google,I don't get the same.
@@NusratJahan-pf9qe listen up! I don't give a crap about whether you live in the U.S or not. I live in the U.S too, so what? Angelina Jolie is nothing compared to Aishwarya Rai. The only attractive feature on her face is her lip. That's about it. Aishwarya was the most beautiful woman in her prime in the 90s and early 2000s. Now she's a mother and older. And, of course looks fade with time. So if you Google most beautiful woman in the world now, it is probably someone else, someone new. I don't need you to tell me how Google works. Adriana Lima is a Victoria secret model. She ain't sh*t! She has a very nice body but her face isn't all that. Please don't even say Angelina was one of the most beautiful woman. Scarlett Johansson beats Angelina. So your standard in the beauty department is very low. Anyone who looks at ash will be mesmerized( talking about younger Aishwarya) .
@@Wishdom-j3b I don't care what u think and not here to quarrel with u, But about beauty standards? Sorry there are no rules. And when u say majority it should be determined by votes, not by your opinion, and people determined it by vote by placing jolie in the 2nd position and ash in the 4th position. U might live in USA but apart from living in USA I am from Indian sub continent too and watching Ash from 90, sushmita Sen is prettier than her so sushmita defeated her in Miss India contest and ultimately became 1st Miss universe from India. So aishwarya was a miss World but a runner up of miss India contest. Still sushmita is the most beautiful to me. And if u tell about age Monica Bellucci is 56 years old, but Monica bellucci is much more beautiful than Ash by vote and to me too. scarlet Johansson just a plain looking girl. Our apartments complex office staff is prettier than Johansson, I really never realized why males find scarlet johansson pretty. I understood ur beauty standard when u uttered her name, overrated face. 90% of Hollywood actresses are prettier than her. Charlize theron is someone I can tell very pretty. And where u live doesn't matter when I search most beautiful woman of all time, never found Aishwarya is in the list, it is always Ava Gardner, gene tierney, Audrey Hepburn , Elizabeth Taylor from old times and Monica Bellucci from recent times. So please don't judge others beauty standard when ur standard goes with under average scarlet Johansson. Ash is fairy queen compared to Johansson, not even in the same category. I don't know if u r Indian or western or male or female, but sorry even the beauty lists by popular votes don't agree with u, jolie is always more beautiful by votes in the lists than Johansson. Nothing is pretty of her face, Angelina jolie has one of the most beautiful eyes in Hollywood. Btw it's another crap I hear a lot here mostly from males, scarlet johansson is the most beautiful actress ever, more than angelina or aishwarya or anyone else in the world. Maybe johansson became better looking in adulthood but she was plain ugly looking as a teenager. Her nose was horrible. She is of my age but looks older than Monica Bellucci without makeup.
@@NusratJahan-pf9qe you seriously need some help. Obviously you do care what I think because you keep corresponding with me. Also, You were the one who mentioned first about you living in the U.S like that is relevant. Also, you think susmita sen is prettier? 😂😂. You need to get your eyes checked. It's now confirmed that you have no standards when it comes to beauty. Seems like you're an Ash hater. I stand by what I said. If you would have googled "who is named the most beautiful woman in the world " in the late 90s or early 2000s, it would have bern Aishwarya. If you don't think Scarlett Johansson isn't pretty, then you are a bitter and hateful individual. For one to become the "miss world ", she needs to be voted. Obviously enough people thought aishwarya is the most beautiful in that miss world year and voted her.
The way Aish speaks clearly shows what a class upbringing she has been given. Very soft spoken and extremely well mannered. She is the pride of our country India ❤️
She probably comes from a family with decent money 👍👍👍🤞🤞🤞
Ash is from a South Indian Mangalorean family. In General, South Indians are very reserved. Other examples are Deepika Padukone, Asin, Hemamalini and Sreedevi.

Struggle, Hard work, Honest to profession that's what makes Aishwarya an Indian queen. Totally gorgeous and intelligent.
Priyanka Chopra or Deepika Pudukone as the Indian Queen? Man are you out of your mind or was it sarcasm ? You should respect beauty and queen words.
Did I say PC or DP aren't ? But in front of Aish no one deserves a stand.
You are right no one comes close to her as far as beauty is concerned
***** have u seen dipika padukone without make up she look horrible and pc had done surgery for her lips. And aishwarya she is world beautyful lady. Both dp and pc are beautyful but aish is more then them.
***** Shut up and consult a psychiatrist. Such thought come when someone didn't get enough medical attention.
People who hate on Aishwarya Rai hate on someone who has only ever been professional in their public appearances. She has never sucked up to anyone, or been fake when it comes to friendships or the Khans. When they betrayed her, she stayed away rather than being fake with Salman and Shahrukh. You're hating on your preconceived perceptions that someone who is known for their looks also can't be a warm and friendly person. She is not fake, she just protects herself! I think

I agree and I feel the same ❤️
My favourite interview of all time. But every time I re-watch it I get so frustrated remembering just how much the media/audience wronged her during the early 2000s. She said it herself: "the attack was really strong", and it's so upsetting because she did absolutely nothing wrong. The way people treat successful, talented, beautiful and intelligent women is appalling. She was blessed with all four and people couldn't handle it. It seems like women are only allowed to be one of those things otherwise we are deemed "manipulative" or "undeserving". The respect I have for her level of dignity after dealing with such negativity is too much to even put into words.
I dont think bollywood honored her like she's supposed to be honored. Also shes was SO witty, sharp and playful back then. She's super guarded now actually.
She is a legend in indian cinema. What more is there for bollywood to honour her?
You really never get to see this side of Aish. Thanks simi. Miss your Show so much. Koffee with karan is really cheap and low

Karan is Chakka, what else can you expect from him .

Life is about accepting reality.. When there's reality staring at you in the face there's no point in living in denial of it.. There's greater strength in silence.. Dignity is extremely precious to me.. Rise above.. There's no need for drama.. It's okay, people have an opinion, it's fine.. Family is everything.. God keeps his balance.. I'd like to believe people are as human as they are.. I'd like to give them a chance, you give yourself a chance everyday.. There is an obvious wall and I'm guarded to avoid being hurt.. Some brilliant quotes in this interview by Aishwarya! This is a therapy session
True.
Very true, this is an Inspiration for our young generation
RIP bollywood she can't made single negative comment about u that's the gem and queen of bollywood very proud Aishwarya rai
I think that loud bust of laughter before answering each question is a form of defence mechanism.
yeah I think so
Well she said so herself in the older interview that she is a very sensitive person. But being in such a chaotic work field she must have developed this outwardly calm, collected and guarded personality as to not get into stupid messes and not hurt her real inner self.
@@bad_karma5648 First and true love? Says who? I don't recall her saying that. What are you going on about here? Also, Aishwarya was 34 when she married Abhishek. No disrespect to Ms Kapoor, she is an attractive woman, but to call her a beauty queen is a stretch. The reason for Karishma and Abhishek's break-up was never made public although some news outlets pointed fingers at their parents. Finally, this is in bad taste but Aishwarya and Abhishek are still together and the same cannot be said about Ms Kapoor and her (ex) husband.
she is the result of her rock-solid upbringing with strong values and dignity infused in her by her parents which is common in most middle class house. I can relate to her very well
Very true. her beautiful soul is the pure reflection of her parents.credit goes to them.most of the middle class Indian families r so much prone to the beautiful cultural values
11:45-16:05 just wanted to include that as an example. I watched Jennifer Lawrence do shots during an interview with Stephen Colbert as whole of America calls her "relatable" and this is what is relatable to some (I say 'some' of course as we all relate to different people) young women from the SouthEast. I watched this when I was very young but I came back to watch it again. It's important to have people like her.
She's emotionally intelligent and wise, even when she was younger, she possessed wisdom many old folks lack.
strong values and dignity infusion by parents is not the preserve of the middle class. I know many guy who come from pure rural background and have rock solid values and a sense of dignity .............ditto for a few friends who have very rich parents and they also have strong values and independence ....
Hi ...are you from Raiganj ? Utter dinaj pur
Ash whenever asked about her beauty she tells that there is a good team working on it to keep the illusion. It’s humble for her but we see that it’s not about the eyes & nose & complexion, it’s the charisma & modesty & temperament & intelligence.. her beauty is not just the apparent, more than that.
I agree with that its not the eyes or her ohyscial features uts her inner beauty that reflects outside which adorns her persona
Thank you for this comment😊
"In the absence of confirmed fact, gossip and rumor is sanctified as the truth and history is recorded."..Simi, you have a lovely way of asking questions respectfully and making your guests feel comfortable. Truthfully, I admire the way Aishwarya choose not to speak bad about anybody....that is part of the definition of someone who has integrity and respects herself.
Very true. Great question and opportunity, but was evaded. Though I disagree that aish was quiet. It does seem like after watching thIs imo that vivek's press conference was a way for aish not to get back at Salman personally, but actually professionally. She (and subsequently Vivek) wanted those movies with srk. And when no direct or concrete explanation was given (reiterated & stated here), she thought stopping Salman's interference has to be done miss world pagent style. Unimaginable backfired, especially in vivek's case. Though srk does seem apologetic?
Wow she has lots of stuff other than beauty. She is intelligent, smart, and bold. The thing she said about silence is so true. She is a big box of surprise. Hat off aish.
I have learnt more about how to handle and react to both adversity and success from Aishwarya Rai than from any spiritual guru or Life coach. I am still learning from her how to be completely yourself without apology and not dim your light for others but being modest, kind and sensitive to others at the same time, how to have self worth and to believe you're worth it without losing your head. She is how every human being should be. Great personal power without wanting any power over others. She is a living example of the detachment that spiritual gurus talk about, she lives and practices it every day, she never lets others affect her. She is able to move on gracefully with her self worth, positive attitude and ability to trust intact. I don't know how she does it.
awesome

Very heart touchingly described😍
True.
I totally agree with you
To be well spoken, to be non judgmental, to be gracious, to be a lady by today's standards this would seem artificial. Her beauty goes beyond her appearance.
Love her strength and dignity! She is so perceptive when saying, "I am not a soloist", because it reflects in how she talks about the people in her life, including her ex. She reminds everyone that even her ex has a family and her words and opinions can hurt them. Today, actresses trash talk their ex on gossip shows like KWK to get even and the host encourages it for TRP. That is how pathetic and low things have become. :(
Right...I madly love her Yarr..NEPAL

Simi is fabulous
I am always stunned by how people are so harsh on Aishwarya. She’s an abuse victim for god sake. The poor women’s entire personality changed after 2002, go watch her interviews before that. And If her laugh was fake than she would have stopped doing it a long time back but she doesn’t care what y’all think. And stop comparing her with sushmita sen. Everybody is different and special. Just cuz sushmita has good speaking skills doesn’t make her better than Aishwarya or anybody else. Actions speak louder than words. simi...you are great. youre the ONLY one who has made ashwariya rai open up the way you did
The best host ever ❤️
Such intense question, she was trying to know Aishwarya not trying to make headlines!
It s pleasure to watch two smart and beautiful woman talk. Very rare sight in world media. Thank you for sharing this interview with us . Greeting from Poland .
Ash is simply sophisticated and clear about her thoughts. Marvelous
she has such an angelic face ! she really luks so spl! her eyes r her crowning glory!
I never liked her until watching this interview. I respect her now, don't understand why I disliked her to begin with.
Aish is so sweet, you could just tell she's not hateful and has never been, she's just full of love.. was Simi a bollywood actress or model? those eyes are killerrrrrrrrr, she is so beautiful
***** wow😻 what movies of her do u recommend i watch??
+Sami F. Mera Naam Joker, Subhash Ghai's Karz, Siddhartha, these are my favs
Hozefa Merchant thank u so much def gonna watch
Namak Haram, Saathi, another two good ones.
She was in Kabhi Kabhi... although her role was small but that's the only movie in which I have seen her
I personally feel like who so ever comes to simi interview everybody subconsciously takes her poise n energy... look at her
The questions she ask with so much respect n dignity it gives the more room for other people n see their perspective. Its so fresh to see all of the episodes....
I’ve lost track of the amount of times i’ve watched this wonderful interview.. and every time I do, I leave feeling like a brand new person. I just adore both these beautiful ladies! Watching this is almost like a mini therapy session, it makes me feel so calm 🤍🤍
Me too have watch several times
40:29 That was an excellent question and a brilliant answer...❤loved that part so much. Simi is so careful in placing a question and Aish handles all of them with ease..these are way better than the interviews now..
This is the best interview of Aishwarya out of all the interviews I have ever seen of her, and believe me I have seen all of them. This is where her true personality comes out if not fully but to the extent that it makes me like her more and more for being who she is.
That's the reason why she was a Miss world winner ....So openly,so freely she gave the interview....
From 17:00 When Simi asks about Salman, her relationships...firstly kudos to Simi for bringing it up so articulately...KJO as entertaining as he is...he doesn’t possess thus quality...and that’s why Aishwarya spoke how much ever she can given how diplomatic she is.... what I gather from whatever she spoke about her past... she’s moved on and not bitter about Salman anymore...she also says she doesn’t speak about it ( certain aspects ) not only because it involves herself and her loved ones but also because it involves the other person (in this case Salman ) and his loved ones...she does not look at her past with him negatively and seems to have made peace with it....I was always under the impression that she still despises him but doesn’t look like that given how she talks about being forgiving and accepting people for what they are...she also says she doesn’t want to overanalyse now something she did back then ( giving out statement against Salman regarding his violence )...she truly seems to have moved past that..... another thing that struck me was when her past interview was shown, she had just started dating Salman...the relationship was full of passion and like Simi said too tempestuous to sustain... but she seemed madly in love....(like Salman)...when asked how she feels today....she says it’s way more real.... her idea of love is...two really good friends .... who get are compatible.... which tbh isn’t a bad thing at all... I remember reading tons of articles and blinds when these two got married that theirs is marriage of two good friends who get on really well and it benefits them professionally.... at that time as Ash fan I didn’t believe it but over time it does seem somewhat true...marriage , mostly in desi cultures is more than just love and passion....now that I see her more recent interviews, it does reconfirm what I feel...she and Abhishek make good friends and make for a stable relationship...(no passion /love )but but but....a part of me wonders....what if.... sigh....Salman has obviously matured and mellowed down a lot more...and Ash just seems to be in Aaradhya land ....as someone who doesn’t like him offscreen but loved their onscreen pairing... hope to see them share screen sometime in the future... it would be such a treat.....
Very nice interview...sheds so much more light in Aishwarya s persona....!
I don't think any loveless marriage would have survived this long without any rumour of any affair etc from either side. People just romanticize an abusive I past relationship that happened two decades back and see what they want to see. Period. She is lucky to have someone like abhishek and I think she is intelligent enough to know that. God bless aish and abhi.
@@apekshakharode9943 key word here is "people say". Personally I don't think aishwarya rai would stay in a loveless marriage just for the sake of her child. Abhi and aish both are mature enough to do co-parenting if they need to separate. To think that she is tolerating a relationship without love or passion is to insult her as a woman. I think these "people" who say such things are just jealous cause the lady literally had it all or they are fans of a certain criminal.
@@rabeyarahaman5062 You'll be surprised to know how many loveless marriages hace lasted for decades where couples dont even have a conversation but have stuck around because of kids/society or because its convenient. There are unfortunate examples of this in my own family. Im not at all romanticizing their abusive past..just stated the difference in how she has expressed her feelings towards one in the later interview as compared to her previous interview when she sounded absolutely smitten. I have followed aishwarya 's interviews after her wedding. You will not find a single interview wherw she has stated about when she fell in love with her hubby. She has always maintained how they went from being friends to getting engaged. Which is okay. Not all love stories end well and sometimes friends getting married works out. But just looking at them now, i feel something is amiss. Theres no warmth in that relationship like there used to be previously. Maybe they are a stable couple but im just commenting on what i see or observe of them. Also, not all.marriages fall apart only because of cheating. There can be many reasons. People can just stop getting along or simply fall out of love. No big deal. Also maybe it is my personal bias but having followed Aishwarya from the beginning, she has never looked so eternally depressed. Even in her lowest phase with Salman , she looked more at peace and exuded confidence.
@@punya2298 well as you stated very eloquently it's just how you feel looking at her interviews and her in general. I have been an Aishwarya fan since 1994 and I also have followed her. She was always tight lipped about her personal life. She never stated in details how she fell in love with Salman or Vivek or abhi . In my opinion she is still the same, whatever difference is seen in her attitude is just due to age and becoming a mother and continue to grow together. You can't expect a 45 year old lady to behave like a 20 year old. It would look odd as hell. And well it's just my opinion and we can agree to disagree as opinions are like assholes, everyone has one. Only Aishwarya knows how she feels. I just don't think she is that weak as a lady who would remain married just for the sake of her child.
@@rabeyarahaman5062 im sorry but lets not call each other jealous only because we disagree. No im not jealous..well maybe because of her flawless beauty ( and that too in a good way ) but certainly nothing else. Its like when people don't have a valid comeback the easiest thing to say is thaglt you're jealous
Im no fan of salman. Hes fine but definitely not a fan. Infact i was a huge fan of Abhishek. Its only the last few years since iv stopped looking at him with rose tinted glasses. And now i.dont have a very good impression of him..
"Just for the sake of her child " ? Are you kidding me ? That kid is her whole world. You are underestimating what lengths a woman would be willing to do or the extent ro which she would compromise for the sake of her child no matter how intelligent and head strong she is. And not just Ash, maybe Abhishek too has decided to stick around for the same reason.. And no.it is not insult to a woman when one says she is in a marriage lacking love and passion.. shes doing what shes doing keeping everyone's best interests at heart. A few years back when she was asked about people getting divorved she clearly said its not as easy as walking out of a relationship..and a lot of people wait and try for years before taking this step especially when there are children involved. This reflected what she personally thinks about the issue.
I wish the show could start again.
Really I did feel the same Simi Ma'am ( the words uttered by you in the last after she had left) .She just made me mum in the true sense when she left. I became speechless. What a mesmerizing beauty, personality, presence of mind she has . I think she is not a normal girl. She is super human being. She is complete. Nothing more to achieve . That's why she is like that. I just simply adore her. We people are very ordinary in compare to her. That's why we people often misunderstand her. Ordinary people often misunderstand everything. Besides, Simi Ma'am you are the best host in the world I have ever seen. I respect you . May God bless both of you !!!
Well said. 👍👍👍👍👍
Mrugesh Lanjewar , thank you a lot. Have a beautiful life.
Two highly dignified ladies in the world. it's such a pleasure to connect with both of you great ladies and inspiration. Simi ji you are the most charming and unique interviewer from the rest in the industry. I mean the kind of questions and words you use can never be matched by any fake gossip show .
Hahaha ...both too artificial ..n dramebaaz ladies

Dear Simi Ma'am, you are India's Oprah Winfrey. You are so phenomenal as an interviewer and you put even the most reluctant of people at ease with your questions. It must be very interesting to be you, with so much wisdom acquired from interviewing people of varied and eclectic backgrounds and careers. Wish we could some day gain insight into what you have learnt.
And as for Aishwarya, there is absolutely no wonder why she is where she is. The answer is simple, she never believed in anything that was transient, whether success or beauty. She is an old soul. If people were to follow and imbibe a fraction of her approach towards life, there would be no need for self-help books.
I come back every couple of years just to watch this show and learn from you both...again!
+Snay Jha Dear Snay - this is a wonderful comment to read! I love your insight into Aishwarya - it is spot on!! So many people just don't understand her - I guess because they are distracted or jealous of her beauty - and can't see beyond it! But you did - and I really appreciate that quality in you. Thank you also Snay for the compliments you paid me! Warmly...Simi
What a comment mam!!loved it..
Just look at her
Her smile
Her eyes
Her beauty
Her approach towards life is beautiful as well ❤️.
She is the most Beautiful women in the world

Simi, we loved this interview! 💕 Hope you may be able to interview her again for Ae Dil Hai Mushkil
Aishwarya 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍 her eyes 😭😭 they are so out of this world.
I'm senegalease but i love your "rendez vous " and Aishwarya is my best actresin this world and i follow her news all days. She make proud India around the world and with your two rendez vous i can say she's adorable, gracefull and élégant. Thank you for this.
Back when people had some dignity, grace and self respect when talking to each other good interview
A well brought up , good girl - that is what Aishwarya is.
I have always had only one favourite actress in life and that is Aishwarya Rai... I thought she is the most beautiful woman in the world and after this interview I think I have a good taste cos Aish is not only beautiful she is well brought up, humble, kind, and a very sensitive person.. love u so much as a fan n looking forward to see more of ur work... God bless you
P.S. Devdas is my all time favourite movie
I loved and loved that she represented India in it's TRUE form by wearing a traditional dress ...SARI
I guess this is how an interview should be done with a celebrity.. Aishwarya is a goddess as always but this lady simi, she is such a sweetheart ❤
Aishwarya has been involved in charity for a long time but she doesn't go all out in the media..she's done so in a quite manner, not like a MEDIA CIRCUS(remember she was the first to promote "donate her eyes" and has done so. She also rescued a Rhino when she was in SA, which was later revealed, after 4 years, by a PETA activist in JIKNH show). Also, she's the most famous bollywood actress in the world. I think UNICEF took notice of all this and rightly so!
Such a pleasure to see two beautiful ladies on screen at the same time! I know Aish is always guarded, but this is her best interview so far. Anyway it was a feast for the eyes!
Hozefa Merchant ssr65sssss00
lolz :))))
I wish simi restart this show again..one of my favourite
This is like a conversation between goddesses in heaven. Both of these ladies could play roles in stories from the Mahabharata. The elegant ladies of Bollywood make virtually any Western actress look like a little girl in comparison. Formality is the standard in India and it is a shock when one sees informality. The reverse is true in the West. We have great performers here, but I think our society suffers a little from the way class structures have been leveled. There are no standards of personal decorum anymore. The only American actress I can think of who wears an aura of cultured dignity that flows from within is the very well educated Jodie Foster.
Ignorance. Reverse is not true in the West. Why Indians have such a negative view on Western world I will never understand. Have you forgot Angelina Jolie? Sandra Bullock? Halle Berry? Just stop degrading Western world just because women actually are respected, are liberated and have rights here.
Selena Jetlee You make a point. Quite a few English actresses are very poised and can present themselves as adults with culture. Very few American actresses can do that. I'm sure there are some but they are exceptional, not the rule. I think my criticism of the West is not related so much to sexism as to the notion encouraged in the United States that everyone has a right to be infantile that is not restricted by age. One has the impression that the average emotional age in the United States is 22.
ironpirites I still think you're making assumptions that are merely opinion and not fact therefore what you have seen to make such assumptions can also therefore be exceptions not the rule. I live in the west and there are many kinds of people here which cannot be generalized based on culture. Also I think there is nothing wrong to still have childish qualities within oneself.
Selena Jetlee I think you have expressed a very intelligent opinion. My own focus is on women in the entertainment industry. I think effort is made in Bollywood to help elevate Indian society. The film industry there is an escape for many Indians and most of the films are frothy romances with action scenes, but the industry tries to give the public something fine. In Hollywood, the film industry
concentrates more on glorifying the individual and his cherished right to remain childish.
Often the individual's indifference to convention or even contempt for convention is championed. The ideal Hollywood hero is a rude pouty boy lout with no other redeeming features than a persistent faith in himself. The current ideal female singing star in the West is a capricious tart with a burning ambition to acquire a criminal record. Young Hollywood starlets are typically waifs on medication.
My opinions could be outdated though. The young lady who starred in the Harry Potter films has gotten a good university education. Also Tea Leoni, of television comedy fame is well educated, as is Gwyneth Paltrow, but I still don't think people like this are as well grounded as people like Aishwarya Rai and not even the greatest Hollywood personalities have more personal resources than someone like Zeenat Aman, who is a tower of womanly strength, as an individual, or Rekha, in whom, it seems, the entire story of woman is written.
I respect your view. Maybe I am just overreacting to things I don't like about the West.
ironpirites Interesting opinion you've given. However, I disagree. Hollywood ranges from a variety of films and genres unlike Bollywood that focuses on one aspect...that is entertainment only, which is why Hollywood (besides it's budget and number of years it's been available) is the most popular film industry.(Although Bollywood is now evolving greatly). Hollywood caters to everyone.
I like the examples of great women you have given, Rekha & Emma Watson are some of my fav female celebs. I think the problem is the difference in what media chooses to project between these two countries. In America the media pry on celebs like Kim Kardashian etc & ignores the well poised, humble, grounded celebs whereas in India media gives barely any attention to celebs like Poonam Pandey and focuses attention on celebs who are well poised.
Shailene Woodley, Natalie Portman are also great examples of grounded Hollywood actresses.
Ash is a great actress. She was exceptional in Dhoom 2 and I personally think she was great in Hum dil ke chuke sanaam.
