    Eric Metaxas wanted to touch God. For him, the universe was like this giant frozen lake. We spend our lives atop the ice attempting to drill down to the water below and touch God. But Eric's God was more an "it" than a "he", a collective consciousness rather than a personal deity, something akin to the "Force" without the Jedi powers. He cringed when people spoke of following Jesus or knowing God, because God wasn't a person you could name or a being you could know. New York Times #1 Best Selling author, speaker at the president's National Prayer Breakfast, and frequent guest on CNN, Fox News, and other national media outlets, Eric Metaxas never believed in blind faith. He never expected be a spokesman for God, that is until he had a dream that changed everything.

    My father once told me never to get so smart to where I think I do not need God. I thought it was ridiculous at first when he told me that in high school, but then when I realized how higher education tried to "teach" the God out of me literally while I was attaining my Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from Drexel University I realized that no education can give me the answers that the Bible does and true wisdom begins with the Lord. Very inspirational words Mr. Metaxas. Thank you for sharing.

      The school system can't answer the most basic of questions.
      Ask any professor to answer these questions.
      1 ) Why are there laws which govern the universe ?
      2 ) Why are those laws set the way they are ?
      3 ) What do we know of in the present capable of bringing about laws and withholding them ?
      They will be stumped by number 1, because you can't have a naturalistic explanation for a non physical entity, AKA LAW.
      Number 2 causes most to speculate an infinite number of universes with absolutely no evidence, simply to avoid the obvious fine tuning.
      Number 3 will return the ignorance card, " Science does not know everything yet, give it time. " Totally oblivious to the fact that this question employs the same method used by Darwin in explaining the past, best inference. The only known cause in existence in the present from repeated testable observable experience to bring about laws / sets of rules would be intelligence. There is no contender. Therefore it is the most rational of the choices, and it uses the same method every secular professor has no issue using for believing in devilution, i mean evolution.
      Game Over Academic World. The cat is out of the bag.
      Congrats on your PHD !

      Pseudointellectual. The wrong 'whys'. But-has someone provided you the answers? At whose feet do you study? Are you saying that you recognize there are laws, but unwilling to accept what 'is' vis a vis a scientific explanation (bodies acting on other bodies produce x behavior) because you *need to know who (or what) made them (or are certain what entity put things into motion)*? Do you have any *actual* responses from 'purported educated people of science'-who will invariably rebuff your question?
      Oh, and 'devilution'-that's just way clever.

    • @JoshuaHults
      @JoshuaHults 9 років тому +3

      Murcury Vapor Well no science can't answer why questions, it can only tell you how. There is absolutely nothing wrong with a system which can only say how something works. The problem arises when you say a system which can only answer how something works is all encompassing means to truth, when it clearly excludes any answer to a why question.
      You see i could ask why does fire burn, and you would say because it is hot, and i could just respond why does heat cause burns rather than freeze, and all you could say is, " IT JUST DOES. " This is clearly not a sufficient answer, it is good enough if you want to harness heat to produce energy or cook or as a weapon or whatever but it never actually gets to the route of a question. You can get to the stump, but you can never go below the surface to the routes of the question because science is limited to " HOW" only questions.
      Philosophy, Theology attempt to answer this why question. If you seriously want to be a slice above the rest, you must equip yourself with both science and philosophy.
      A little bit less of an abstract way of putting it for someone with a more scientific mind would be as follows.
      1 ) Science is the study of matter and energy, 2 ) laws and behaviors are non material,
      3 ) therefore science will never have an explanation for why matter and energy behave as they do.
      ( Because behaviors are non material and science can't test for non material entities. )
      That is a more scientific argument for why science will never be able to answer. I am not trying to be a jerk, you have to realize i have thought about this for many years now, and i have been around the block many times with people, i am just trying to help you to see that although science is by far one of the coolest enterprises, it has trouble with basic questions. It is like trying to get a train into the sky, or a plane onto a highway, science was not meant to answer why questions, when you throw a why question at it, your asking a plane to deliver your mail to you. Planes are great, but they don't go street by street throwing envelopes into your mailbox.

      Well actually, the bible gives me theological grounds to view a woman as of intrinsic value, naturalism can't give me that option, if i was to take naturalism serious all a woman would be is a collection of purposeless, meaningless cells which happen to express themselves in the form of a human being. Why should i care anymore about her cells than i care about plant cells ? In naturalism i shouldn't, or rather there is no theological grounds to say one ought to.

    The truth resonating with me is the fact that he was able to hear the Word preached, to live in a home with Christians, and grow up in the church without ever meeting someone who said "Would you like to pray with me?" wow. We are not connecting with people, especially the young people, because we have not been shining that Light in our own lives... where do you meet God? not in church, not at school, and not at home- you meet with God when you PRAY! Best testimony yet. Thank you.

    Thanks Eric. I had heard it before, but it somehow meant more to me now. You have no way of knowing how important testimonies like yours mean to people like me. Mine is the type most people seem to want, that of hardship and loss, or a junkies story really gets their attention. But for those of us who had been there, we came to the Lord only because we truly had no where to go. But yours. You could have gone any way you wanted, certainly having the credentials to have done anything. By the way, good career choice. To people like myself, yours are the really powerful testimonies, because it proves that you don't have to be a loser in life to come to the Lord.

Trying to explain Jesus to someone who is an "intellectual" or is extremely difficult. However, the guidance of the Holy Spirit along with your experience will plant precious seed in the unbeliever. May the Lord bless you as you share the truth of His love.

    Lovely sharing; and that would have been a really pretty fish *rrrurrrrrrrr*. I've found Eric to be one of the greatest minds of our day, and better yet, one who doesn't mind speaking about Jesus openly. Funny, the mention of "the secret language of the heart". Past our DNA, to our very soul... although created in the image of God in the ways in which that is to be interpreted, I feel each of us has our own unique "state of being" if you will; that which makes us... us. You take a pair of twins, who could be physically exact duplicates in EVERY way, but WHO they are could vary immensely, despite the secret bond they seem to have. God knows our soul and inner nature, how our minds tick, and thus, He can relay to us in ways that are even entirely unique to us. The fact He would even deal with each of us in such a peculiar, perhaps even bizarre way, and in such a very personal way that nobody else would even fathom is evidence of His α> exacting knowledge of our core being, β> a love and desire for us to know each other alike that He doesn't just treat us all the same as if akin to cattle or as numbers down at the DMV office, and γ> the King and Creator of all the universe grants us His audience and even has set aside place for each of us who would have Him in His Kingdom. When you consider how high up the chain you have to be to get audience with Earthly royalty; it's wild to think that our heavenly King keeps such an open door policy.
    I'd say consider this in prayer... as if stepping into the most beautiful and elegant chambers you can possibly imagine to speak with Him... and in that setting... what is it you would speak with Him about: is it troubles or wants alone, are there some thanksgivings... perhaps shall it retire to an immensely botanically-scented courtyard with tea and some friendly sharings? Way I see it... if you consider something akin in your own mind, or whatever feels a most reverent setting; it could make you more seriously consider what matters you go to the Lord with, and the way you bring them up. It's easy to be immature and ask God about things that honestly don't amount to a hill of beans at the end of the day (much less end of the age), just our personal like-to-have-happens, but as we mature and gain discernment, the requests should become more meaningful and less self-centered, and we should gain the wisdom to also be thankful for His being there for us, regardless of the ills begotten from this sin-laden realm, for once we accept and put faith in Jesus' price paid, the realm of our citizenship changes... the remainder of our lives here we're but running on a passport and visa to stay and work here until the great "deportation" αρπάζω.

    The best thing we can do is point to Christ, look to Christ, reflect Christ, and this is exactly what happened to Eric in his dream - he was shown Christ and I loved him sharing Jeremiah 29:11 - "For I know the thoughts I think towards you, sayeth the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to bring you to an expected end."
    The world will offer you a PhD but all we need is GOD - God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit - Jesus Christ is our Savior, not any degree or job nor anything we do can save us, but Christ alone.

    Great! It's amazing to feel satisfacted and emotionally enthusiasted by the religion!
    but I have a simple question: how can God (who's worthy of worship and praise) have a son?
    Isn't this somekind of making God in need of a son as any one of us?
    What if we remember that the common purpose of religion believers is to proove that God is the universe Creator?
    How can the Creator have a son? How can the Creator leave the saving role of the humanity to his son (as it's claimed) instead of doing that himself?
    We should think twice: jesus crist peace be upon him is the messenger of God who ordered his companions and people to worship God (ALLAH) and only God (ALLAH) and none and nothing else, as the coran cited this in the last verses of "Almaeda" chapter, and this is its translation:
    And (remember) when Allah will say (on the Day of Resurrection): "O 'Iesa (Jesus), son of Maryam (Mary)! Did you say unto men: 'Worship me and my mother as two gods besides Allah?' " He will say: "Glory be to You! It was not for me to say what I had no right (to say). Had I said such a thing, You would surely have known it. You know what is in my inner-self though I do not know what is in Yours, truly, You, only You, are the All-Knower of all that is hidden and unseen Never did I say to them aught except what You (Allah) did command me to say: 'Worship Allah, my Lord and your Lord.' And I was a witness over them while I dwelt amongst them, but when You took me up, You were the Watcher over them, and You are a Witness to all things. (This is a great admonition and warning to the Christians of the whole world).

      @Kenshawmusic Рік тому

      azer , such wasteful gobbledygook dude! because man is born into sin, and is fallen, God offers a bridge thru His Son Christ Jesus, whereby putting your sole trust and faith in Him, you can be made whole, given a new heart, & FORGIVEN from ALL of your sins that separate you from GOD Himself👍🏼!
      Accept Him, go to heaven; reject Him, destiny is the literal lake of fire, with unquenchable thirst forever. Forever is a long, long time, yes?

    • @azerhachicha5903
      @azerhachicha5903 Рік тому

      Ok, it's true that man does lots of sins but we should know that ALLAH (God) wants from his worshipers to be in touch with Him without any bridge. The role of the Messengers peace be upon them is teaching people the religion and guiding them to the right path.
      ALLAH wants us to ask forgiveness for our sins from Him directly as He told us:
      "And your Lord said: "Invoke Me, [i.e. believe in My Oneness ( Monotheism)] (and ask Me for anything) I will respond to your (invocation). Verily! Those who scorn My worship [i.e. do not invoke Me, and do not believe in My Oneness, ( Monotheism)] they will surely enter Hell in humiliation!".(Chapter of Albaqarah/ meaning of the verse 60).
      That's what Christ Jesus peace be upon him has taught us also:
      "They have certainly disbelieved who say, " Allah is the Messiah, the son of Mary" while the Messiah (Christ Jesus) has said, "O Children of Israel, worship Allah, my Lord and your Lord." Indeed, he who associates others with Allah - Allah has forbidden him Paradise, and his refuge is the Fire. And there are not for the wrongdoers any helpers. (Chapter "Almaeda"/ meaning of the verse 72).
      Then, we know that the Muslim doesn't reject neither Christ Jesus nor the other Messengers peace be upon them but follows the last one: Muhammed peace be upon him and believe the others.
      The one who is worthy of Paradise is who worships ALLAH ,only ALLAH without bridges. Then, you can be made whole!
      Thanks for reaction.

    What does he mean “I am second”?

  • @azerhachicha5903
    @azerhachicha5903 Рік тому

    ALLAH denied what christians believe that he has a son (Glory be to ALLAH) in the last verses of Meryam (Mary) chapter, and here's its translation:
    And they say: "The Most Beneficent (Allah) has begotten a son (or offspring or children)
    Indeed you have brought forth (said) a terrible evil thing.
    Whereby the heavens are almost torn, and the earth is split asunder, and the mountains fall in ruins,
    That they ascribe a son (or offspring or children) to the Most Beneficent (Allah)
    But it is not suitable for (the Majesty of) the Most Beneficent (Allah) that He should beget a son (or offspring or children). There is none in the heavens and the earth but comes unto the Most Beneficent (Allah) as a slave."
    I hope we read coran carefully and intentionally trying to understand the evidences to reach the truth.
    The real freedom is to worship ALLAH the one only GOD who deserves the worship as the prophet Mohammed mentioned and as has mentioned the prophet Isa (Jesus) before peace be upon them.

      @@SDPtoronto The Quran verses explain each other, which means that the old honest and sincere scholars of the Book knew that Gesus christ is not the son of God and is not (He and even the other Messengers peace be upon them) worthy of worship and that the message of the prophet Mohamed peace be upon him is right (even many sincere christian and jewish scholars today know that). That's why ALLAH ordered his prophet Mohamed peace be upon him to refer to them if he had any doubt about his message, but he hadn't, because Islam and all the righteous religions while they've been revelated to the prophets peace be upon them (before the changes that happened in the Christianity and Judaism) have made application to worshiping ALLAH and only ALLAH as the Quran tells us in many verses and as the honest scholars of Christianity and Judaism know.
      It's not accepted logically that ALLAH denies the fact that Christians say:" Gesus christ peace be upon him is the son of God" (Glory be to ALLAH), and then orders his Prophet peace be upon him to refer to them.
      That means that the honest Christian and Jewish scholars knew that the right path is in the Quran.

    To everyone who is rejecting Jesus, wait until you die and realize you were dead wrong. It will be too little too late.

    How many times and in how many formats does this self-involved man tell the stupid story about a stupid song that convinced him there's a big man in the sky?...o, this is the fish dream... the one about the song is even more silly.

    I think it is absolutely absurd to assume the only people of faith are the ones who believe in Jesus' divinity.

      Your absolutely right! The truth is you can't live your life without faith in something. There is no such thing as a faithless life, no matter what your faith is in something even if it's yourself.
      But saving faith? That is ONLY found in Jesus!! Our creator.

      I was with you until your last 2 sentences. If Jesus did, in fact, die for us, he died for all of us. Not just the chosen few who would believe that one man's execution is enough to absolve you of your wrong doing, but everyone. And it isn't up to anyone but God to Love me enough to tell me I'm wrong. And you know what? The everlasting Love that is God tells me I am enough, no matter what I believe. Everyone is. My sins were either absolved on that cross, or the whole thing is a sham.

      Alexis, interesting to me that you recognize the love of God, yet what is it that stops you from accepting Jesus? It seems to be a matter of unbelief that he was truly God here on earth? I'm extremely interested in understanding your thoughts!

      I accept Jesus just fine. And I accept Krishna just fine. And Muhammed. And Buddha. And on and on and on. None of these people are my Savior, because we no longer need one. I don't believe the Bible is infallable, because it was written by the hands of man. Therefore, I cannot honestly say I believe a word of it. But, I do believe that IF (

      Alexis, thank you for your response! But please, PLEASE evaluate what you just wrote to me. Please take the time to read what you just said, because finding the real truth is a matter of life or death. You just told me that if you die you will not need to worry about it "one way or the other" because Jesus said "It is finished". And then, you went on to explain how you can't believe that there is a vengeful God who would require sacrifices. That is so interesting to me. If you understood WHY Jesus said "It is finished" and you understood the very thing that you are relying on when you die (Jesus' death and life) then you wouldn't be telling me that you don't believe in a God that requires such a sacrifice. You must understand that every single blood sacrifice God required of His people were ALL pointing to Jesus! The death of animals is NOT would God wanted, but it represented how much he abhors our sin. Why does he abhor it? Because He loves us that much! He CANT STAND to see us putting ourselves in and those around us in that much suffering. He also says MANY times that he does not delight in the sacrifice of animals. "For I desire mercy, not sacrifice. And acknowledgement of God rather than burnt offerings." Hosea 6:6. So then the question is: why did God require sacrifices for our sin if he doesn't delight in them? Because God is a God of love, BUT ALSO a God of Truth and Justice. He identifies himself not with the rich and noble, but with the poor and oppressed. When our sin hurts those at the bottom (and it ALWAYS does) then God hurts also. Unless justice is served then God IS NOT LOVE! The love that you so strongly desire simply DOES NOT EXIST without a God who is vengeful for the oppressed and those who suffer because of our sin! So he made a ritual that would be so entirely troublesome and so entirely difficult to perform that we would understand the gravity of our sin. This was the sacrifice. Jesus was the ultimate sacrifice. His life and death and resurrection back to life represented the perfect animal sacrifice to cover our sins for past, present, and future. It represented what it looked like for us to die and come back to life a new creation. BUT unless you trust him to make you that new creation then you will never taste eternal life with him. Don't believe it? Jesus says it himself. "I am THE way, THE Truth, THE life. NO ONE comes to the Father except through me." So then how can you believe in Buddha, Krishna, Allah, and THEN say that you also believe in Jesus? Don't you know that Jesus says that you either choose him or you don't? There's no grey area. You are either with him or you are not. He doesn't leave room for those others gods. Why? Because he wants to so radically transform your life Alexis, that there possibly couldn't be room for others gods. And then you'll see that He was the only God in the first place!
      You say you don't trust in the account of the Bible and say you don't trust its words. YET you rely on it for your salvation. Please Alexis, as a man who does not care even in the smallest way about being right, but simply cares for the state your soul and stance with God PLEASE consider what I am writing to you.
