Yoooooo Widmer!!! It’s Jerry (JLuda) from back in the day! Just wanted to shoot you a shoutout and glad to see you still doing your thing in the Honda game 👍🏼awesome channel bro!
Had the same issue. I replaced mine with a two piece unit as well. The problem I ran into with the two piece unit is after time the gasket breaks down and you end up with a pretty bad leak. Replacement gaskets were nowhere to be found and making my own only lasted months at a time. I ended replacing it AGAIN with a 1 piece unit from Rockauto...I believe the one piece is from magnaflow.
Thanks for the how to. I almost had to do this on my 98 dx since it had a crack in the same place. I didn’t have any engine running issues and the car passes CA smog very well. But it did have bad gas mileage (200 miles on a tank). Come to find out when I was taking it off to have the crack welded, the o2 sensor came off very easily. I retightened it and I have my good mpg back. Hoping to not have to replace or have it welded.
Glad it went easy. I am getting ready to replace the entire exhaust on my neices 04 Element and it has spent its entire life in IN. Going to be a lot of cutting I am guessing!
Hey do you happen to have a link to the manifold? I'm looking to get one for myself but I am noticing two maxpreedingrods websites and I can only find the manifold on one of them.
Hey just curious how well/ long did this hold up. I just got a 2000 dx coupe with a cracked manifold. Im wondering what my best replacment options are.
Any help/tips works! Before I give up I have a 1991 civic sedan the problem with it when you turn it on and let it run for 1min it starts to slowly bog down and dies the exhaust takes out light clear smoke I change the spark plugs fuel filter and temperature sensor and thermostat any more ideas on what to do or how to fix it no check engine on
Can anyone help me I need to find out the size of the 9 nuts that hold the manifold and head together . My cat got stolen out of my 99 and those are the last parts I need to get it all hooked up. Thank you!
I had a 98 EK and when I installed an aftermarket 4-2-1 header on it, the oem header also cracked in that same spot. The O2 sensor was a real pain to get off the header, I used PB Blast to help with getting it loose
I do currently own a 2012 lx 5speed and a 94' gsr. The gsr was a one owner before I bought it and had not been modified in any way. He sold it to me for $1000 and I drove it home. It needs some regular maintenance items replaced. It's work in progress lol
Ah yes my old lady’s hatchback has this cracked manifold as well. Grabbed my mig welder and some blue demon and patched it up lol her hatchback has d16y7 in it but I converted it to y8 head intake ecu vtec setup. Passes ca smog just fine and currently averages 37-39 mpg 🤷♂️
@@GarageBuiltHondas I felt the same way cool car didn’t really want one. Took 25 years of growin on me to get one lol the Honda meet in may after seeing a few i finally decided to suffer. Anyways love the vids keep up the good work
Pulled mine from top, had to reposition the exhaust manifold so I can remove the upstream 02 sensor with extension by putting it through between A/C and heater hoses and the whole piece came out pretty easy.
@@GarageBuiltHondas If you start getting an unknown misfire for no reason, pressure check the cat. The honeycomb is not honda quality. This happened in a grandma car so no hot rodding or mods on engine, just a daily driver.
They crack because the cathalitic converter is too close to the head. Cathalitic converters get hotter than the cylinder heads so is fighting the cooling system and that provokes the crack. Is better have the cathalitic converter where the EX have it.
American models have the weirdest factory manifold setups. Australia / Japan’s setup has the expansion chamber after the oil sump not up beside the block. So weird.
Looking good and clean under there!
That manifold is cool, glad they redesigned to make it 2 piece, easy to make a "track/test pipe" too if it's desired.
Any examples?

What up man!!?!! Good to hear from you! Thanks homie! You still in EP?
Yea man still reppin Chuco 🤙🏼lol
Nice man, should hit up one of the Honda meets. You'll see a handful of peeps you know. It'd be cool to catch up too

How long did it take for the gasket to break down?

My MPGs are only 25 in this auto y7. Wonder if it'll be restored a little. I'll have to keep track of it.

I had an element catalytic converter that I sold for $900 to a recycler on Facebook, then I used that money to buy the exhaust 😅

Mines cracked in the same exact spot I’m gonna try welding it up
Let me know how it works out!
Did it work ? Mine is cracked too and I'm debating on what to do?

This is your option. It's inexpensive.
Just replaced mine with the 2 piece now there is smoke coming from the top as if the gasket are leaking or something

Cast iron.

No
Is this manifold California carb compliant? Thank you
No

Can any exhaust manifold leak cause car speed lagging?
Yes, especially if you're o2 sensor is affected.
Do you have any idea to fix tht krack
Weld it

Even the nicest ones are a work in progress. There's always something that can be fixed or replaced. At least you own one now.

Can the Crack on the Manifold be welded?
Yes
Impossible to pull it out from the top? Instead of jacking the car up and pulling it out from bottom ?
It didn't seem like there was enough room.

I have sold my previous stock ek cats for like $300 each to a guy on marketplace
cant you just take it to the muffler shop and get it weld on?
You can try.
Maybe those four extra nuts go on the short-side of the studs?
I didn't have a use for them, and didn't see a spot for them to work on anything. I just tossed them into my spare but bin.
What size are those 4 nuts ? I’m currently having trouble keeping it from falling and in place
Be careful witht those aftermarket cats. Had one collapse and burn an exhaust valve in under 50,000 miles.

Of course not. It's a daily driver. Plus it's automatic. That 4-2-1 isn't doing anything for a sohc automatic.
