  • Dave Matthews Band performs "Ants Marching" live at the Farm Aid concert in Tinley Park, Illinois on October 4, 1997. Farm Aid was started by Willie Nelson, Neil Young and John Mellencamp in 1985 to keep family farmers on the land and has worked since then to make sure everyone has access to good food from family farmers. Dave Matthews joined Farm Aid's board of directors in 2001.

Farm Aid's performances are donated by the artists in order to raise funds and raise awareness for family farmers. They've raised their voices to help - what can you do?

What an awesome night at Northerly Island! One of favorite venues and what a performance by all! Such a treat for us in Chicago to see Farm Aid! So I was mistaken!!! I've seen DMB at Northerly Island during Farm Aid in 2015, but have seem him every time he's comes into the Chicago area!!!! Never disappointed!!!!

I've had this on VHS for years and watched many many times. From 6:48 to 7:04 a lot happens if you notice...Dave says something funny to Boyd and Boyd cracks up, Carter loses (and replaces) a drum stick without missing a beat (Dave is looking at him...I think he saw the stick toss), and the white dude has his shirt lifted as the camera pulls back. Oh, and at exactly 6:57, you can see a cymbal post with no cymbal between his two left crashes...Carter's Zil Bell fell off (because the wing nut was off) earlier in the set list when he hit it on Crash. Great stuff!

Always amazing performance when they do this song, this Was Farm Aid 1997 , Dave must have really liked the cause and the the event , so much that 2011 he joined , Willie, J. Mellencamp , and Neil Young the founding 3 as D.M. becomes a board member to Farm Aid , the longest running benefit concert event ever , since 1985 ,! Support the American Family Farmer !

I often use this group often as an example of how important a great percussionist/drummer is and how it changes the whole dynamic structure of a composition. Of course not to impugn Mr. Matthews talent or the rest of the guys, but Carter Buford is an A List drummer and as well he should be. But remove him and listen again. And I am a keyboardist and have to do usually 3 different instruments(two at a time unless I am forced to sequence) at a time and still a tight accomplished drummer is the most important part of any Jazz or R&B arrangement. I believe, anyway.

to my kids-when you love desperately and passionately. When you're humbled to the point where you look down a lot. Don't forget to look up and see others like you. Identify with your soul\music and figure out that it''s not harmony until you find and feel others like you. WELCOME TO THE BAND! (don't forget the "love desperately and passionately" part). All the love in the world-sean

At 0.20, seems he needs to adjust his hand and say to himself you are live and this could be your payday.....The rest is history on becoming one of the greatest of all time.........

He definitely worked hard to get to where he's at, him and the rest of the guys in DMB. Starting out busking the streets in Amsterdam? Even after that guy walked up to him with some girls and "shhhh"'d him as he put his hand on his guitar to make him stop playing, Dave surely got the last laugh!
