@@AudioPervert1. We totally agree with your point. There are exuberant forces beyond architecture ability to act as an agent of positive transformation, and sustainability has become an increasingly trite commonplace.
Buildings, which aren't necessarily an end product of a genuine sustainable action, are claimed as sustainable only in terms of incorporating “green architecture” design principles which may not always lead to true sustainable results. Architects with a transformation role, are located at one end of the production chain, where already exploited resources are dispersed.

I felt teary at Norman Foster's words because I've come to a point where I feel like I don't really believe in architecture but it's such a struggle letting go and even tougher to find something else, something quite as impacting and fulfilling...

    • @rcicero53

There is an enormous absurdity in the traditional approach to architecture and architect's organizing mindset driven by the idea of seeking nature confined into a sphere of "thinghood". It represents an old culture, where architectural mummification and entrepreneurial euphoria take over. You're right about the struggle of letting go of architecture and finding something quite as impacting and fulfilling. Today, we ought to reckon and choose a different relation of forces between a slow paced changing living organism we call natural environment and the built as a commonly accepted eternalization, in other words, an arbitrarily kept fixed position, a motionless and unchangeable freezing state we call a building.

Hay I am a year on from your post, did you find a place to express your self? Never take the words of a single person as being defined. This film is/ was/ still a place for inspiration . Take note of what’s said by all the presenters, then find your space.
N.F. Is a really great architect, but trust me, in his early days he likely had feeling the same as yours. Hope you found your path.

@@massive_walnut4602 old guys from different times can still be wise. Especially when it’s about a thing where neither being old, a guy or what time he’s from is relevant. Don’t discount advice simply because the one giving it isn’t exactly like you. That’s just narrow minded.

Frank’s statement is underrated. he understands what classical architecture achieved. It creates emotion and draws unto our humanity. Piano also hits the nail on the head “to create beauty”

Loved the comment about travel. Some places can really affect you deeply, the Taj Mahal made me burst into tears. The Zimbabwe ruins made. The hairs on my arms stand up. Westminster Abbey with its complex towers gave me a great feeling of antiquity 1066. I was brought up in Africa so things like Cape Dutch homes affect me deeply . Travel has been the great joy of my life. Kango caves the glow worm caves in NZ. The bird men rock paintings in NZ all so mysterious. Thank you architects for giving me joy

It’s not about making a better world. The brutal architecture today is only about narcissistic architects who want to make themselves known.
When I look at Berlin, it’s pretty naive to think that Foster or Piano buildings can ever have the appeal of neoclassical architecture. It’s like fashion; only interesting to look at it for a couple of years. After that, you wish they would have built something more timeless & beautiful instead.

    What is Architecture??
I tell my kids’ if you can draw ✍️ you will never starve. (Doctors make 500k before tax … you can make 500k with one unique design/architect built with your signature on the front door encased in 24k gold) Your dad’ could break my back…take the house and bank account!! I will still be ok!! All I have to do’ sit in a wheel chair on Market Street Sydney and show off my designs.. people will come to me’ Not because I am in a wheel chair BUT because they genuinely like my designs!! Now I may have to modify my original designs based on clients budget BUT that’s ok!! Not everyone is a movie 🎥 star who can afford PRADA designed 100k dress BUT the fact remains “if the house of PRADA” wanted to design $1000 dollar dresses for the mass market “they are most welcome” BUT the house of PRADA” chooses NOT to play in that segment!!!!!!!!

Web connection is helping you realize, how Far East nations are so young and eager to build up new levels of civilization, of comfy cozy homes, of new touristic atractions, of new small enterprises, of new farming interests or sports stadiums, this latest Reps trend in USA is about..how to mess up the others lives in order to slow them down, it's not about doing something usefull for American citizens, but something about damaging rivals in business, no matter Chinese, Japonese or Europeans, this America that has nothing but enemies to fight against makes me sick guys, it's a shame and a huge waste of time. What if you try to build up a bridge to tie Cuba the American land? People that need everything are the best customers, instead of living in this eternal terror of nasty neighbors, well, if nobody's doing nothing about it, only organized crime take over. Try to imagine a bridge on boats like ancient Roman Empire legions used to build, like airplanes carriers but a bit longer, let's say, a chain of bridges having bellow as much commercial areas like a brand new city. Instead of living in fear of not granted invaders, let them people of Cuba work for you guys, you see, a constructive point of view is our salvation

Zaha Hadid gave us the joy of new revolutionary constructions materials such as airplanes carbon fiber, we need cheaper technologies and faster way to build up infrastructures, now you know how important architects are world wide. The last devastating floods are just like a cry for help, everybody must build homes on higher hills and let water channels run free keeping the atmosphere fresh and healthy. You need to tell the lndian slums locals, they are sitting on their fortune, on the ground must be fertil soil for gardening, no matter if they plant only lavender or peppermint erbs, no matter what they prefer to have under their feet, move up the first level until this global warming will calm down, you see, all alone we are like a tiny drop in the ocean, only united we can make the difference. Do you ever watch CSI Miami? How come the Florida swamps are so smart and Mississippi river on New Orleans can not be tamed the same way? Too much good water is running to the ocean when we need water reservoirs for the inner lands and farmers business, you see, if this is a big problem, let them Chinese partners in business join the projects, strategic infrastructures are always worthy, bridges or navigation channels even parking lots or new cycling areas, they are a golden mine for the future
