I watched this video on 2020 and now I’m almost done with my first year of architecture. He made me want to study this major and I’m thankful every day cause I’m so in love with it.
Piano's reverence for the workers is commendable. So many "starchitects" seem to expect their creations to be built whereas Piano is genuinely grateful for the labors

He's probably over 90 years old yet still giving speech on the stage, really inspiring person! My most respected and most admired architect of all time.!
One of the best architects of all time, in my opinion. I’m a 62 year old architect and am currently reading his 1998 “Logbook”; his views on his projects in his own voice. Highly recommended.

I think it's amazing how someone can talk so passionately about architecture; something perceived as generally boring in my age category. However, it is the passion that hits you exactly right. I love how TED talks enrich my way of thinking by means of such videos. Some videos are about business, economics and other hard things, while some (like these) are very soft and just trigger the mind to become something better than it was the day before. Thanks TED And above all, also thanks Renzo. Your passion/story is inspiring
"Beauty is not a frivolous idea." This statement is a great prelude to understanding the need for it in our world. So many parts of many American cities are NOT beautiful; the result is that we live an impoverished life, one that no amount of digital media can fix.
One of the most educational and emotionally touching offering on Arcitrcture and how it could be achieved. BLESS YOU Mr Piano!!!!!. Gulzar Haider (teaching architecture since 1969).
Arquitecto.Cesar Bello
“The real beauty is when the invisible beauty connects with the visible”. It applies in everything including science. I should remember this rare wisdom. What a beautiful video!
There is no wisdom here! True wisdom is understanding that beauty can only be achieved through a certain set of rules of symmetries and proportions. Wisdom is understanding that beauty comes from nature. Wisdom is understanding that the Sacre Coer cathedral is objectively more beautiful than any ugly concrete abomination or social high rise complex. Wisdom is understanding that one must apply a certain set of skills to achieve beauty, to be a good artist. Wisdom is understanding that not everyone can be a great artist. There's some fucking wisdom!
Tim Slee then we should just stick to the classical architectural treaties forever and ever. If it is so simple, why don't you do that yourself and become the best architect of your era? Someone who knew how to wisely marry timeless aesthetic principles with the reality of his time into buildings was Louis Kahn. Maybe his architecture you would like.
@@emiliorumbead8926 Modernism is the first architectural style that is so controversial, that just can't be embraced by a big part of the population. We didn't have to deal with this problem in classicism, renaissance, neo-classicism. Most of the population can see an old classic building as beautiful(this is why historical cities invest so much in old-towns), but a modern building divide the opinions in 2. One of the most important role of an architect is to find the objective beauty and use it so that the vast majority will be satisfied, modernism as a style just fails in finding this objective beauty(except very rare exceptions that most of the time ignore the base definitions of modernism, using details and equalising at least a bit the form with function).
