- Testing out the new Tial MVS 38mm external wastegate on my turbocharged 1.6 liter 1992 Miata. In this video it is running the stock 1.6L long block, an Ebay cast turbo manifold, Ebay 50 trim T3 turbocharger, Ebay intercooler, 2.5" exhaust, 550cc injectors Coolingmist.com water/methanol injection and a 1G DSM 4G63 ECU.

Thanks Gustavo! I sold the car, so there's no more canyon runs in my future :-(
Regarding the expense, I had many parts left over from other projects, got deals on things, got used parts, etc. but you could easily calculate your cost based on the mod list on my website. Good luck!
@XRoadStarX Thank you! 100% stock internals, never touched, rebuilt, etc.
Thanks man and good luck to you!
@TheSleepermgm The car recently made 252hp and 219 ft-lbs. Check out my channel to see the video!
@sidewayssam Sounds good, best of luck to you!
Thanks! It's a 2.5" Magnaflow. Full details are on my website.
It seems like every car is different, and it's really hard to tell from a video. I think it sounds GREAT from behind the wheel and really compliments the regular exhaust tone.
Man this sounds awesome! Can;t wait to dump my miata's EWG out the fender ;)
dude that is effin' awesome. i wish mine sounded like that !
Mighty Car Mods
The setup runs and works perfectly! The mitsu ECU works perfectly and the Mazda engine runs perfectly on it too. The reason being is that the Miata engine already uses the coil pack, cam angle sensor, ignitor, etc. etc. that the Mitsu ECU utilizes on the DSM vehicles. Even at that, it's easier for 99.999% of the people to just plug in megasquirt and call it a day.
My jaw dropped when you cane around the corner. I'm waiting on my wastegate to come in and trying to hear how they sound out of the car.
I really miss this old car and how it would wail like this! Enjoy yours man!
Check out my website for all of the details, I ran a modified Greddy kit initially, then switched to a T3 based setup.
@KillerClown425 I have most all of this documented on my website, so I'd ask you to go there for all of the details. The Turbo is a straight T3 50 trim Ebay unit.
@MyOpinionMatterss Thanks! To answer your question, it doesn't start making any noise until I reach about 9-10psi under heavy load. At that point, you're beyond part throttle and are usually hauling butt! So you don't hear a peep out of it 95% of the time I'd say.
Sounds like heaven
Haha, thanks I agree!
matt oconnor yes!
It takes a stockpile of DSM parts, seeing the miata and dsm wiring schematics whenever you close your eyes, and a sprinkling of insanity. :-) In all seriousness, Megasquirt plug n play is the way to go for turbo miata engine management.
@TOPSECRETEVENTS You're welcome! It is a very fun car at this power level!
@dtoll2002 It is dumped straight to the atmosphere
Thanks! The Miata uses all of the same electronic components as the DSMs 4G63, so I started studying wiring diagrams and went to it! I did use a (greatly similified) engine harness from a DSM, that was the best way for me as I didn't want to cut the factory harness at all. It ran awesome, but I would recommend megasquirt plug-n-play. Far easier and great software too.
It is dumped to the atmosphere.
@ptadam22 Thanks for the kind words!
@kensei96 Thanks!
@julimaru Thanks! I love it to!
Sounds good!!!
@94EglVisionTSI Thanks!
quick question how did you remove all your internal wastegate bullshit? cuz the t28 turbo i'm looking at to buy for my black 92 miata the internal wastegate crap is like welded, so i guess you cant remove it=( what kind of turbo do you have if you dont mind?
probably a stupid question but is a 4g63 ecu from a 2.0 mitsubishi? and yes it screams nice car man.
Hi mate where did you route the ewg to? Back into the system or a pipe to the floor?
Thanks Alex!
Sunflower has some nice sound to it. What was your total expense?
Would like to see some canyon runs on this car if you don't mind. I'm sure a lot of people would too. Props on miata !!
@turbomiragedude thanks!
its the Mushimoto JDM Magnaflow super happy lucky exhaust.
@dedasdude Ha!
@turbomiragedude haha just curious, ive seen most people use megasquirt. just seeing what it took, howd the tune hold up on it though? did you end up getting a better ecu management?
sounds great!i finally got my kit, bought a second hand one on ebay, got a bipes, and going to use a rising rate fuel reg just to get going......but may be seeking your advice....lol....once i get it going ,think i will be megasquirting it...
So your running a dump tube straight out or is it re-welding back into the main pipe?
Curious why you run a 4g63 ECU? do you use DSMlink or something? common ecu swap for miata?
@turbomiragedude i gotcha, post more videos sir! like the miata and would love to see me from you. sounds good also! thanks for reply
😍😍😍😍😍 Very Nice
How does one go about using the dam ecu? Does it literally just plug in or is it more then that? Done a little research and looked on ur site with little help
Beauty mate!
how did you hook up the vacuum lines on wastegate top port to boost controller and the side port to vaccum source
That sounds awesome! How loud is it at low boost, like part throttle but just enough to build some boost?
hey is there a way u can help me find that turbo on ebay thanks!
That little thing rips!!! How did you get it to run on a 1g dsm ecu?
Was that the clutch slipping between 1st-2nd?
Wow, that is a clean M1, and that open gate sounds like the devil! I like it.
Your car is sexy, keep up the great work.
how did you route and connect the wastegate?
do you have a link for the IWG blockoff?
what does it take to use that ecu?
god dang that is beast, great work
Hi It’s been a while since the video has been posted lol, but I have a question.
Did this Setup end up being reliable and efficient or were you just trying to push the stock engine’s limits?
Yes, this was an oldie but it was completely reliable. It was at the limit of the stock 5 speed though I’d say.
Tom's Turbo Garage how much boost were you running?
1.6, stock internals, very impressive
0:36 Welcome to the mayhem
sweet jesus I'm in love
Great sound..
Do you have to weld an ewg on or does it just bolt right on?
You have to weld a flange to your manifold before the turbo
Hey, Tom i have an almost identical set up as yours but get really bad on throttle compressor surge around 3k-4k. Currently have an ebay t3 internal wastegate. Thinking about getting an anti surge and external wastegate, have any ideas before i start shellin out cash? Thanks!
go up in AR, Get a cam or a larger intercooler any thing to move right on the compressor map
cool
I have to ask?, Is the exhaust pop, from a dead stop normal?
I have a unit that does that all the time. I am not sure if it is normal? It only pops once from a dead stop then goes like a bat out of hell.
+mike 13 the sound you're hearing is the engine hitting the rev limiter in first gear due to wheel spin
Thanks! That is what is going on!
That's always been a concern of mine, is it going to cause any problems to let the rev limiter control the rev or should I always let off before hitting that point?
TJ in my case with a snowmobile, I do not want to hit the rev limiter.
More weight needed to clutch.
I am running Super Tips.
Holy shit
Perfect Miata!
