Later his character is all about robbing on his rep and his name just by saying “Omar coming” I guess the writers of the show hadn’t flushed out his character yet but that scene always bothered me.
Omar said later that he started rolling different when he met Brandon. He even tells Brandon that he's usually happy when his name rings out but he was trying to hide their association for fear of losing Brandon
