That was the sloppiest hit I ever saw on the wire, they came around the Conner and wasn't ready at all. Timing is everything, they shouldn't even have moved on them and with all that shooting nobody got hit
That's why they're after Omar - he got rid of their best hitmen. Don't get me wrong, Bird and Stinkum were dumm, but they never messed up a hit like that.
You can tell that a lot of the experience Simon got when he wrote this show was from the seventies and eighties, because in modern Baltimore there for damn sure is no Sunday Morning Truce. "The game is still the game, it just got fiercer" Slim Charles
+Big R It was made up completely for the show. There was no such truce in the 80s which was actually the peak of violence in the U.S. compared to today.
That’s why David Simon hired Robert F Chew. Besides his acting abilities and professionalism, he said he had one of the most authentic Baltimore accents.
This strange little Sunday morning truce is one of the big reasons Avon was able to endure for so long until Stringer ratted him out, he wasn't a sociopath who ruled the area through pure fear like Marlo. Marlo was always going to burn out because he couldn't invoke anything but pure terror in the community, and that can only last so long.
yup. Great point. And if you look at the most powerful / successful leaders of criminal organizations throughout history they also ruled in the same way. It's much smarter as it enables the community to defend and protect the criminals from law enforcement. You want people to not only be afraid to snitch on you due to the obvious consequences and fear you to an extent but you also don't want to "cross the line" where people feel things have gone to far and is effecting to many Good / Normal people where they will feel there is no other option but to snitch no matter how bad the consequences may be.
Even more than Avon…Prop Joe. He kept it quiet as a mouse making money hand over fist the entire show, with little violence on the eastside. It’s a shame Marlo did him dirty like that, Joe should’ve never let him meet the connect.
Grandma :" Oh my goodness!" Lolol But the best part thats missing is when the 2 dudes are waiting to see Avon. Someone walks in and says "I heard yall shot at an old lady today....mmm mm mmm *smh*" Lolll

David B but Shamrock even mentioned during the phone call relaying info to String that it was a church day. String shoulda known the rules. Even Gerard and Sapper’s dumb asses knew that. So that’s on String. One for ordering the attempted hit to go down on a Sunday morning, two for hiring two morons like Gerard and Sapper.
"... holdin' the torn up church crown of a bonafide colored lady! Do you know what a colored lady is!? Not yo Moms fer sho!" The writing and delivery on this show is nothing short of brilliant.
Check out the picture the minute taker has drawn at 00:21. It's a naked chick sat on a rocket. Haha, it's pretty good. Stringer picks up the notepad and has a look. You can tell he's thinking "WTF" LOL
@ True but consider this. If the black people who went through the slave trade are the true Jews, then those laws as in respecting God's day shouldn't be taken lightly by any of them. It's not just important to Grandma or the drug trade to have order but for the that community to obey the laws of God. Participating in the drug phenomenon has cursed this community until this day. When you turn away from God you turn to the wolves. Just my Outlook.
@@imanisteel7960 you have right to your opinion but Slim Charles wasn't talking about religious conspiracies (no matter if said conspiracies are true or not). The reason he calls her a "bonafide colored lady" is the struggles she faced during the Civil Rights era and the Church Crown is significant in the fact that the Christian religion was instrumental in that cause as Doctor Martin Luther King Jr was a preacher and many protests and marches and such were started and organized through the Churches while for this same reason the Churches became targets for KKK such as the bombings and burning of Black Churches in the South as retribution / intimidation tactics from the KKK. That is the depth of this scene.
But you have no clue what Avon would have done since he was asleep. Tywin Lannister has the same conversation with Tyrion in Game of Thrones after the red wedding. Tywin asked Tyrion “ explain to me why it’s less noble to kill a dozen people at dinner than 10,000 on the battlefield?” In then the wolf doesn’t care about the opinions of the sheep. Omar was hard enough to find. Stringer saw an opportunity and took it. Avon most likely would have done the same thing.
Slim Charles not only understood the rules, he understood the impact this move would have to Avon's reputation. We are later reminded of how important reputation is when Brother Mouzone reminded Avon about it.
Juan Alvarez Well, Stringer was following the Sunday morning truce for years. But like he said, when Sapper called to say they saw Omar, I guess he just really didn’t give a damn. That’s what he basically told Avon. Besides, grandma hadn’t come outside yet. But still... that’s why they used to have a truce! Killing the elderly, accidentally, will get the police and community leaders on your ass fast.
@@deb7457 What he told Avon was straight up a lie. He said he heard the name Omar and didn’t think about it being sunday, while in fact Shamrock told him it was sunday.

***** You take into consideration that most people you talk to on the internet aren't english or american or australian or w/e english speaking countries. What seems easy to hear/understand in a certain dialect in english may seem easy to some but isn't to others. People making an effort trying to speak english so you can understand them because you wouldnt understand them if they would speak any other language don't deserve to be called retarded.
+Kocayine No it's definitely a black woman who lived through Jim Crow laws, that's why he says coloured, that was the term for non white people back then.
Just goes to show you that once you're in the game, it's hard to get out. Omar said he was gonna walk away from the game after Tasha got killed in that shoot out when he was attempting to rob a stash but he couldn't even do that, seeing how they disrespected the Sunday truce. That street life'll suck you in and it's hard to get out
What I find funny about this is that, the Barksdale crew ( outside of getting locked up) were at their weakest in season 3. Yet, they were still able to not only get the drop on Omar but also anticipate his next move. That being as how he took his grandma to church on Sunday's. That was the sloppiest hit I ever saw on the wire, they came around the Conner and wasn't ready at all. Timing is everything, they shouldn't even have moved on them and with all that shooting nobody got hit
LOL, LMAO. SLOPPIEST IS RIGHT! YA FEEL ME??
I love this scene. Them some low budget dudes anyway! Lol
One of the many great scenes on The Wire!
Thomas Brooks of
That's why they're after Omar - he got rid of their best hitmen. Don't get me wrong, Bird and Stinkum were dumm, but they never messed up a hit like that.
The old school rules are gone from the streets
The goofiest hit attempt in the whole show lol..Literally took them minutes to pull a gun out their pants and shoot..🤣
"I definitely hit him" One of the bozos. 🤣
"Oh Barksdale got to GO!"
Stinger too!
This ain't got to end man.
@@celtics8402
This THING got to end, man...
That line give me the most joke
This show really hard af
he said "takin' his wrinkled-ass grandma to church"!!!
I love how they always make sure to make Slim Charles look 8 feet tall. Even though the actor is 7 feet.
You can tell that a lot of the experience Simon got when he wrote this show was from the seventies and eighties, because in modern Baltimore there for damn sure is no Sunday Morning Truce. "The game is still the game, it just got fiercer" Slim Charles
Some reckon Barksdale is basically the last one of the gangsters who still follow those principles, the last of the traditional gangsters
+Big R It was made up completely for the show. There was no such truce in the 80s which was actually the peak of violence in the U.S. compared to today.
+redskinsxvii I think the idea of a Sunday truce came from the 70s era. That's before hip hop, and soul & Gospel were prominent
im sure there is one back in NYC
thats the focal point of the show to show the evolution of the game and how the lil youngings are pretty much more grimier and savages
The way slim Charles braids click and clack while he’s yelling is so cool. Wish I had braids
I live in dc and frequent the pg County area. Their accents are perfect. Prop joe is definitely from Maryland. So authentic. Wire is classic
Prop Joe WAS from B-More. He passed away though.
That’s why David Simon hired Robert F Chew. Besides his acting abilities and professionalism, he said he had one of the most authentic Baltimore accents.
@@sickofguysnamedtodd2293
All the Chew's I know come from Maryland
fuck PG or DC gotta do with this?
If Slim Charles picked up, the story would have changed thousands of times
I think slim did not pick up the phone on purpose.
Leaving that responsibility to call a shot on a Sunday morning fall on stringer...
So Slim was concerned about Avon rep but Stringer throw Caution to the wind. Bell singlehandedly destroyed Avon
gr8 scenes.... everybody shined on this show.... the acting was 5 star
boygenius7 respect certain things always
Grandma :" Oh my goodness!" Lolol
But the best part thats missing is when the 2 dudes are waiting to see Avon. Someone walks in and says "I heard yall shot at an old lady today....mmm mm mmm *smh*"
Lolll
In_Vas_Por think it was shamrock
ima find out lol
It was Shamrock's ol' triflin' ass. lmao
@@Raphie009 Lol the whole thing was a massive botch. They should've provided more information in the first instance. Shamrock should've asked for more information and Stringer should've known better.
I swear to god on a sunday mourning ,they shot her crown of her head yo.
Sky Walk 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Cafe? At the airport? Why cause I know she never go down there lol
Exactly!! She aint never gonna go
That taxi driver is a fucking boss. Bona fide getaway driver
On SUNDAY MORNING “we called to askkk” 😂😂
"Y'all woulda known betta than that BOOL shit" lol Slim upset.
I love the background church sermon music as Slim's cadence mirrors a preacher explaining and preaching rules, morals, ethics and codes.
They're in the funeral home
"... holdin' the torn up church crown of a bonafide colored lady! Do you know what a colored lady is!? Not yo Moms fer sho!"
The writing and delivery on this show is nothing short of brilliant.
Check out the picture the minute taker has drawn at 00:21. It's a naked chick sat on a rocket. Haha, it's pretty good. Stringer picks up the notepad and has a look. You can tell he's thinking "WTF" LOL
Lol he mostly grabbed that notepad to make sure Shamrock wasn't taking notes on a "criminal fuckin conspiracy" again.
Haha. Yeah man. Stringer gets so annoyed by the stupidity of his staff. Good old Shamrock LOL
It's from old 40s pin ups. Usually a pin-up girl, sideways, on a plane or plane's engine.
That's inspired by the 40's famously WW2
little details like that make me love this show even more
This scene is so much deeper then people realize...
imani steel facts. A lot of levels. Shows Stringer and his lack of respect for a code for one.
@ True but consider this. If the black people who went through the slave trade are the true Jews,
then those laws as in respecting God's day shouldn't be taken lightly by any of them.
We are later reminded of how important reputation is when Brother Mouzone reminded Avon about it.
y'all ever notice we never see stringer bell's family? the reason for that may be behind why he would violate the sunday truce.
Slim bringing the sermon. Classic. Slim and Omar Killers with a Code of Conduct.
0:52 I like to think Slim Charles didn't pick up the phone because he was busy taking his own grandma to church
I feel bad for the taxi driver. He's gonna get a mouthful at the end of a shift
Always loved how they would have random music from the times playin on the radio n shit in the background. Took the realism to another level
That was Stringer's call. Dude knew it was Sunday.
Yup
Stringer’s right hand man stands out in every scene he’s in. Love him
I think Slim was such an interesting character..... Wish they would've went into his story more
“I swear to god on a Sunday morning they near shot her best crown off yo!”
Nahhhh I can’t I just lose it laughing everytime I hear it 😂😂
On a serious note what an actor he was, they all were
every time Omar tried to quit something pulled him back in.
Dam I miss the wire ,but aren't them two the same ones that string called a 40 degree day dudes this is a prime example they always get 40% of the job done
Now that's a real man right there. The fact that when he saw them coming his first and only act was to use himself as a bullet to save his grams and he doesn't care that he almost was got but what he was so angry at was the thought his grams might be disappointed in him
This is comedy gold right here 😂😂😂😂
“If it ain’t him, we’d only be wasting a bullet.” What a crazy mentality to have 😅
Slim Charles is my favorite character in this show. Just a true gangster, doesn't want the crown and don't want his name ringing out.
Triflin' with Avon Barksdale's repittation.
The "Oh my goodness" always gets me lmao 😂
2:17
Ricky Williams played for Stringer & Avon after the Dolphins
avon was more loyal and had a heart. stringer bell was just all about that money
0:09 the Barksdale organization always had a good taste in music. The Stanfield crew listened trash rap songs
Bruh Chris had the worst taste in music lmaooo. Such an interesting part of his character.
dallashood67 lol he did
They just in the whip bumping that OutKast lol
No tearing up church crowns today, y'all. Happy Easter
Happy Easter 2022
“Is that him” “Shit if it ain’t we’d only be wasting a bullet” crazy and underrated dialogue right there
"Do you know what a colored woman is? Not your moms', that's for sure!"🤣 That is what one of the most elegant yo momma jokes I have ever heard.
Correct me if I'm wrong but does "bonafide colored lady" mean a woman of color who's lived through the era of segregation?
***** lmfao "cutter lady"
***** You take into consideration that most people you talk to on the internet aren't english or american or australian or w/e english speaking countries. What seems easy to hear/understand in a certain dialect in english may seem easy to some but isn't to others. People making an effort trying to speak english so you can understand them because you wouldnt understand them if they would speak any other language don't deserve to be called retarded.
***** fair enough, my bad, I use this argument alot cause it applies to many situations on the internet lol.
+Kocayine No it's definitely a black woman who lived through Jim Crow laws, that's why he says coloured, that was the term for non white people back then.
"Not your moms, for sure!" LOL!
Outcast playing in the background, while those two knuckleheads figure out what's going on....haha
Just goes to show you that once you're in the game, it's hard to get out. Omar said he was gonna walk away from the game after Tasha got killed in that shoot out when he was attempting to rob a stash but he couldn't even do that, seeing how they disrespected the Sunday truce. That street life'll suck you in and it's hard to get out
He said he would walk away from robbing Barksdale stash houses not the game completely but once they shot off granny's crown he was back on the hunt.
Hannibal Mathis true shit. That's how gangbangin manifested so long. An eye for an eye. Won't leave well enough alone
@@yungjj84 Exactly, you take shit to a whole new level shootin at somebody when they’re with family
@@TreWimsical Reminds me of the GTA IV mission "Undertaker".
You can do some s**t and be like what the eff, but never on no Sunday morning.
What I find funny about this is that, the Barksdale crew ( outside of getting locked up) were at their weakest in season 3. Yet, they were still able to not only get the drop on Omar but also anticipate his next move. That being as how he took his grandma to church on Sunday's. Just goes to show, sometimes the hunter can be the hunted.
man what? they got the drop cause bro wasn't even thinking someone would do so bs like that. Shit lower than dirt.
The cab driver did good instinctively drove away burnt out too on that impala ss taxi edition
