    Check out the following paragraph taken from the Wilton website. It quickly explains all of the key features...
    The Tradesman XC vise is designed to handle the most demanding clamping applications under the most extreme environmental conditions. Unlike most vises that have a fixed center nut, all Tradesman round channel vises use a nut anchored at the rear which provides straight line pull and even pressure resulting in greater durability. The round channel design also allows for a completely enclosed spindle and nut assembly keeping debris out and lubrication in for a lifetime of smooth operation. For ultimate versatility, all Tradesman vises are equipped with main jaws, pipe jaws and a machined anvil work surface. The Tradesman XC models also include electroless nickel coating of key components, prolonging life in corrosive environments, saving hundreds of dollars on repairs and avoiding countless hours of lost work downtime.

    Question of the day: What type of projects would you use the anvil for? If you could choose between the 4 sizes of this vise, would you go with this 6.5" size or something else? And why?

      @@s_s_gdesigns1856 I could get by with the 4.5" one, but it's nice to have the extra capacity. This is my upgrade from using a handed down drill press vise. My productivity just went up a couple notches, lol!

    I see people smash and drill harddrives all the time, but it's actually easier just to take it apart with a screwdriver and get the discs out and just shatter them with a hammer or even melt them down or grind the surface down with a grinder. You could even use the little motor in there to spin on some sandpaper. The motors are extremely reliable high RPM electric motors, you can use for some fun projects too. Ihad a friend who used to use he discs as coasters for drinks. Just slap some thin cork on it with an adhesive backing.

      Thanks for the advice. I was surprised how tough the outer part is. I'll probably take a grinder to them next time.

      I tried puttting a 4x4 leg directly under the vise, to help support it when using the anvil. I then drilled 4 holes in my 3/4" work bench top and bolted it down. It's held up nice so far and comes in handy for all types of projects. I never realized how much I would use this vise.

    Do you think 5 inch bench vise would be good for most DIY projects? Or, should I get maybe 6 1/2 inch?

    • @MarkThomasBuilder
      @MarkThomasBuilder  2 роки тому +1

      I have a couple vises and would say the 5 in would be enough for most projects. I also use the Rockwell Jawhorse outside and that's holds the larger items that don't fit the bench vise.

    the anvil, its so tiny. I have an actual anvil, its more than 15 times the size of that one. You could use that anvil for really tiny jobs though, would not hit it too hard. Maybe stamping keys with number punches would be fine light hammering. Its not meant for real anvil work though, just the small stuff. Love the vise. They have an 8 inch version of this for just under 4K just wow!

    Nice vise for sure, but I almost fell off my computer chair when I saw the north of one grand price. Sorry, but that is ridiculous. Other than the XC coating/protection it is really no different than a $230 Doyle or a $140 Forward 6.5 inch vise. Not even made in the USA for that price. These are all american companies having their vises made overseas to their specs.

      @@BigHomie030 Nope, The Tradesman is made in Taiwan I just got that confirmed by Wilton. Depends on which model size your looking for on price. I've seen the 1745 XC for around $600. Some of their other models are still USA. I'd say even though its Taiwan made, its still most likely better than most of the China junk. I still think its a bit over priced for not being made in USA though. Depends on specs and materials used. China can make a great or a bad product, depending on specs. IsleOfFeldspar the machinist and combination vises are still USA made. A 4.5” C1 is larger than a 1765 tradesman. It opens farther, has taller jaw towers and has real pipe jaws that are tool steel instead if powdered forged like the cheaper tradesmen
