CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Jack (Nicolas Cage) puts everything on the line for a poker hand, but Tommy (James Caan) stuns him with a Queen-high straight flush.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
After making a deathbed promise to his mother that he would never marry, Jack Singer (Nicolas Cage) finds that resolve challenged when his girlfriend, Betsy (Sarah Jessica Parker), begins making noise about wanting to start a family. Worried he might lose her, Jack makes the rash decision that they should fly to Las Vegas that weekend to tie the knot. Feet still cold, Jack spurns Betsy's idea to get married the moment they step off the plane, preferring to procrastinate for a few hours over a game of poker arranged by notorious gambler Tommy Korman (James Caan). Peddling the game as a get-to-know-you thrown by the hotel, Korman steadily raises the stakes on Jack until the novice is in for 65,000 dollars of the house's money on a hand he's sure he'll win -

the fruit plate always gets me lmao
never get tired of watching this scene
That line always cracks me up, great writing!
Happens more often than you think I swear they always come up to you when you lose all your money like perfect timing.
Fruit cake would have been even better.
@@rempseaheinamies9414 whether it's a fruit plate or fruit cake, why of all times did he choose the second Jack just got the shock of losing $65K to come and offer it to him?? Where the hell was he every other second Jack was there when he didn't just get hit with horrible news??
When I've been getting mugged at the tables all night, a comped breakfast makes me feel a little better.

Sounds like the rant of the Poker Brat... XD
😂😂
Such great acting here all around. Nick Cage's reaction is so spot on and is the reaction by any stunned card player who loses a ton of money on a great hand. Priceless.
Also, love the guy playing Elvis and the writer or writers inserting the guy offering fruit ( the waiter ) is perfect as far as comedic timing mirroring reality .
Waiter
I've seen a ton of movies in my life and this scene where Cage's character realizes he just lost the hand is probably the most real thing I've ever seen.
I agree. The poker game itself was completely un realistic, but those few seconds were
i felt it in my stomach...ptsd
I really feel sorry for him : I also don't like to lose but I also stay away from casinos.
The idea of losing a straight flush to higher straight flush is literally almost not possible considering the odds
@@bsheaves 5 billion to one. As his girl found out the odds and knows the score.
Rule of Thumb: if someone is letting you borrow tens of thousands of dollars during the middle of a hand and you don’t have the nuts (royal flush) then you are probably being set up.
He did have a royal flush
He had straight flush, dummy......Royal Flush is 10 J Q K A of the same color.

No way, he had the unbeatable straight flush😆
No he didn't...
Fortunate to have James Caan in the picture 📷 ...James is impressive 👏 memorable performances 🎭 always
He died recently. On July 6th.
The odds of that actually happening means you were cheated 🤔
You can't just be loosey goosey while eating a sandwich Everything you do in the poker table conveys information
😂😂😂😂😂
You can if you're Jerry Tarkanian. He had a towel in his mouth for 50% of his life. That's the joke, that's why he takes a bite of a sandwich. Nothing out of the ordinary for him.
03:41 - I love Nic Cage so much. Always the best reactions. An older him would have also treated us to some screaming as he flipped out and explored the room with lots of emotion. I can see it in my head.

No point leaving my comment think you win sir 👌
Sick
Savage. Brutal. Heartbreaking. Epic. Best poker scene since the ending of the Cincinnati Kid.
For those of us who bet big and raised and re-raised with what we naively thought was an unbeatable hand , only to be shocked to see the opponent had a once in a blue moon super hand to win the huge pot, I can only say that I feel his pain. This was a very realistic scene . Poor guy....he was so confident of winning the big pot but it was not to be.

I believe all of these are required in every poker movie.

That's why the straight flush was to the queen.
His flush was his name Jack.
Jack lost his Queen.
Perfect plot.

Nice seeing ol' Tark the Shark at the table - those were fun days at UNLV.
Never much cared for Nick Cage. But in this scene he gave a great performance. Very convincing.
He’s great in “raising Arizona” and “con air.”
@@alwillk Yeah, he is. I think that some people find Cage to be a little too intense in Honeymoon in Vegas, that he's too freaked out and yells too much.
But the thing is is that they need to really think about the situation he's in, imagine suddenly owing $65K you don't have and then look at maybe losing your wife. Looking at all the scenes in the movie before the poker scene, Cage actually doesn't yell or freak out at all, except for the scene when his mother just died. He has moments of feeling unsure and hesitates about getting married, but he doesn't start yelling alot until after he finds out he owes $65K or losing his fiance to a major gambler.
how Many rules were broken in this poker scene?
like 20 or something
0 rules....its the original poker
I SPIT I YOUR TABLE PEWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!
It's rude to slow roll. Helmuth taught us that.

Funniest scene is when he’s at the airport and he can’t get a flight. The cashier says they have a flight later that day and he says “I’ll be sucking on an exhaust pipe by then””. Always cracked me up

Ladies and gentlemen, this is my no. 1 favorite scene from my top ten of my favorite scenes from James Caan movies! Classic scene when Nicholas thought he got him snowed, but James gave him the blizzard! 3:21 James Caan R.I.P. He'll greatly be missed. To the queen!

That fruit plate will forever haunt his life.

" No thanks ! Have you got a glass of Cyanide...? "
James Caan and Nicolas Cage. What's there not to like?
"Would you like a fruit plate?" lol
Straight flush vs Straight flush is Astronomically rare. It would be fair to claim cheating here. He got Paul Neumaned.
If it were an "election" there would be nothing strange about it. No evidence of any wrongdoing. Perfectly legitimate.
@@projectJ30 I think the odds of 2 of 6 players each having a straight flush in the same hand are far slimmer than the odds of Joe Biden winning the 2020 election. On election day, he was generally favored to win.

That's the trouble with movies. The average movie goer knows jack shit about poker, so directors favour dramatic suspense over received etiquette. Mike Matusow would have threatened to punch him in the mouth before storming out in tears.

0:40 - 0:50 and 1:43 - 2:02 and 2:38 - 2:43 - the three moves Jack made which ultimately landed him in that enourmous debt. He got cocky without realizing how in over his head he just made himself

A straight flush is pretty much unbeatable unless the opponent cheats.
hey he KNOWS THAT NOW!!
0:33 I forgot Tark the Shark had a cameo in this movie between gigs as hoops coach for UNLV and Fresno State. The sandwich must've been an excuse to flash his 1990 championship ring😂 He was also in Blue Chips around this time.

Dude, u don't fold a straight flush lol
Should have called at the 8 grand. Unless you have a Royal Flush in your hand, there's no unbeatable hand.
Just imagine...one more raise and he coulda got Caan to fold
I bet this scenario has happened only a handful of times in the history of five card draw.
I doubt it. It may never have happened anytime anywhere. Straight flushes in a 5 card draw don't lose. The odds are too high
Jason Balcaitis false, it happened it The Parent Trap 😂😂😂
in your honor, a royal flush.
People haven't seen the movie. James Caan character was cheating this super naive guy. Pure setup including having him watch a video on poker.
@@YtubeUserr you´re joking right? of course it happens sometimes, just imagine how many hands are dealt in casinos and online sites world wide, I myself have lost a straight flush to a higher straight flush in holdem, it was a 10$ sit n go, i had two red 8s, the board ran out 9TJQof hearts and the ace of spades, my opponent had two kings with the King of hearts. This was maybe 10 years ago.

Would be good for him if they had a bad beat jackpot!
i'm guna say that all the time now. "would'ya likea fruit plate?"
What are the odds, of 2 players having a royal flush one to the jack and one to the queen ? Only in a movie .
Sick slow roll
Yeah tough break, what are the odds, like one in 500,000 or something of those two hands being made?
The chances of a straight flush being beaten is less than 1 in 25 trillion.
Lmao! Can you even imagine that happening how you would react lol?😂
I have had it happen and we get the bad beat jackpot. But I did not have 50 grand or 100 grand at stake.
James caan played the lead role in the original gambler film he was good in all his roles especially misery also loved him in mickey blue eyes which kinda gets overlooked
Greatest poker seen ever filmed. Incredibly realistic.
Henry Gondorff - Hold my beer!
was this meant to be sarcasm? straight flush vs straight flush in 5 card draw is not realistic at all
Lol
@antzooma neither is using money that's not already on the table when the hand starts. You can't buy in after the hand starts.
But on a serious note, this is why u never sit down in a 'bottomless game '
There was so much wrong with this scene. Don't they bother to consult someone who knows what the hell is going on so it can at least look believable?
Casino royale had a poker consultant!! When the director realised that poker isnt always quad aces v straight flush then I think the consultant is told to shut up!
Neil Godfrey who is talking about casino Royale?
This movie came out in 92 well before poker became as popular as it has become in the last 15 years. This was just a comedy so why spend all that extra time and money on a scene that less than 1% of it's audience would of even noticed.
Sean Byrne this is a comedy...

Cooler of all coolers...damn...
I checked out of this scene in the third second of this clip, but stuck around for kicks anyway. Shit, it's like a museum exhibit of all the worst cliches! My favorite part was how ole man Caan decides to just call the Q-high straight flush...gotta watch out for that royal! lmao
When Jack told Betty that a straight flush is "like" unbeatable but not unbeatable, what he should've said was that a straight flush to the jack is "like" unbeatable. "To the jack" can be beaten by a "to the queen" and "to the king". So Tommy could've lost too if Jack had a straight flush to the king. A better way of saying it is almost unbeatable instead of like unbeatable.
Also, that was so annoying that the waiter chose that one particular second Jack got knocked to the ground to come and offer him a fruit plate. Where was he the whole time Jack wasn't in sudden shock from realizing that he had a $64,000 debt?
String bet...
It should be an obvious tell when your opponent wants to add on during the hand
dmed Lol! A tell for what? That he might have quads? With a straight flush, you are raising all the time no matter what.
You can come to my poker game any time, Born Red.
dmed If you deal me straight flushes, I’ll be there in an instant.
If you're willing to bet all that you have in a poker game, you're always welcome.
dmed Would I be willing to go All In on a straight flush that has 0.02% chance of being dealt? Not to mention the odds of Straight Flush v Straight Flush is millions to one? Yes, I would. I’ll happily play against any nit who would fold a Straight Flush too.
How many decks were they playing with
The odds of that hand happening on a real-life poker table are a billion to one, but still a good scene.
More like 3 billion to 1
More like 20 billion
what a bad beat LMAO
Tommy Korman slow rolling!!!
Best poker movie ever, Rounders. Simple hands, that could actually happen!!
Maybe but the happy ending is unreal. Real life and luck are bitches that most of the time rewards the wrong people. That's how it is, luck is unfair. But movies love to make people believe if you are good and deserve it, it will happen.
