Crazy thing about Zach is that he played in a Hardcore band called “Inside Out.” Just straight screaming. That’s how I knew of him. When Rage came out, I had no idea it was the same singer. I love this track. It always gets stuck in my head. Yeah, it’s crazy how many criminal cops there are. I’ve seen a cop smoke crack. Not undercover, or by accident. Full uniform, badge, gun, etc. hitting the pipe. I wouldn’t have believed it if I didn’t see it with my own two eyes. Terrifying. That’s the whole story though. He got high, thanked the dude who’s house it was, then jumped in his patrol car, and went to work, I guess. Wild shit. Not even the worst thing I’ve seen a cop do.
I really love the last emperor. He is one of the forgotten greats. I would list some of his great songs to check out but its to hard to pick from his body of work. Some popular tracks are heaven, secret wars, and one life. But i really recommend to check as much as you can (suzie wong is one that is still on my weekly playlist.)
Please check out his DJ Shadow track from 2003 called March of Death, his five songs with Jon Theodore (One Day as a Lion), his El-P-produced solo track Digging for Windows from 2016 and the one he did last year with Algiers called Irreversible Damage. You said his last name right. And this came out in 1999.
I had a friend pass me a copy of "Legend of Bigfoot" back in the day and after I heard "Secret Wars Pt.1" he had me hooked. That early 2000s underground hip hop scene was so vibrant and alive.
This song is about Iran-Contra, narcos, and Freeway Rick Ross, way bigger than just some corrupt cops. Look up the story of Freeway Rick Ross, and watch the movie American Made (2017) to get the real scope of how big.
For those who missed it, Zach's "wretched of the Earth" line is a reference to a book by Franz Fanon, the Afro-Caribbean psychiatrist, political philosopher and activist. Showing once again just how well-informed Zach really is, not only a teacher but a student himself.
Hence the lyrics: “I bring the sun at Red Dawn upon the thoughts of Frantz Fanon So stand at attention, devil dirge You'll never survive choosin' sides against the wretched of the Earth”
PEACE AND INFINI7E BLESSINGS FROM PUERTO RICO!!! THIS TRACK IT'S A CLASSIC AND IT HAS A SAMPLE FROM "LA MURGA" FROM WILLIE COLON AND HECTOR LAVOE......PEACE!!!
Pretty much anything Zach or KRS-One does has about 9 deep references per verse. You almost need to watch the lyric video with 3 or 4 Google tabs open to research them.

Zack is one of the most underrated MC in history.
I have always loved this track. Zack is a top tier emcee. Check out "Burned Hollywood Burned" with Black Thought and Chuck D.

New LAST EMPEROR/MADSOL album entitled "PROGRAMME" out now on BANDCAMP!!!
Just by Run The Jewels ft. Pharrell Williams and Zack De La Rocha
One Day As A Lion - Wild International
(Under his own name) - Digging for Windows
This takes me back. My soundtrack back then was Lyricist Lounge (that's where this song is from) and Soundbombing II.
Side note, THIS was my introduction to Zach. Not Rage.
A good introduction to Zach too

And this came out in 1999.
I remember when this video dropped on The Box music video channel in98/99 when I was in 8th grade, I still have it recorded on vhs
I wish Zack would have done more of this kind of thing.
RTJ and Zack had a real hip hop beat too. This has a boom bap type beat, more traditional NY hip hop beat.
One Day as a Lion: If you Fear Dying and Wild International, Zack's best flows
Yeah this track was supposed to be for Zach’s solo rap album but the record label canceled it so it was only released on compilation albums
The whole Lyricists Lounge album is awesome.
This track and a slew of other tracks.
RATM "wake up" and "take the power back"
Last Emperor is great, unknown by most. Check out more of his stuff.

Your voice rolls in the deep
Check out Wild International by One Day As A Lion....zacks project after rage against the machine
Never heard this. Loved it. Love that he mentions Maxine Waters.
The song is about Iran-Contra, look up Maxine Waters Iran-Contra speech.
@@CalixYukon I will thank you!
💚 it
