Dear sir. This song is my goto when i need calm. your posting is the version i choose most. peter gabriel would be proud of you spreading good vibes over the planet
Anne Sexton was an absolute genius. 45 Mercy St is one of those poems that should be required reading in schools to teach kids what true wordsmithing is. And Peter Gabriel did an amazing tribute to her with this. Wow.
This music makes me transcend beyond life... post mortem, looking at this image... how many people are huddled, collected in their cozy homes, cold streets... how many souls are no longer there? How many bodies lie in the cemetery... .bodies of people who once laughed, walked, studied, worked, passed through these places, today they are no longer there!
Before I started studying English (I’m from Brazil) loved listening this song on the radio. Maybe because the presence of percussion instruments that we call “triângulo” and “zabumba”. A beautiful song ❤
There is, it has many names; the lonesomeroad, the long mile, the valley to which at the end lies the lord of death and the castle born of ice. No judgements in deaths eyes, only rest.
This song resonates with me because my father died when I was 9 years old, I was told it was a heart attack(which I understand now) but when I was 18 I tried to join the military and discovered my dad had committed suicide. It hit me like a tsunami, and I spent years trying to find out why. I never found found why and later realized knowing the reason wouldn't,t make me feel better.
Amy, so sorry that you lost your Dad at such a young age. That in itself is a lot to deal with. Then learning how your Dad “really” died is such a traumatic event for you to experience. I pray you’re doing well. I can relate to finding connections and comfort in music(as well as movies, plays, etc) Sometimes writing down your thoughts for just you can be really helpful and cathartic. I’ve written several letters that were never sent but it was really good to make peace with the past. 🙏🏼 Sincerely, Shannon
Sempre que escuto essa música me lembro da mini-série da Globo 'O sorriso do lagarto', da qual ela era tema. Época boa tanto nas músicas como nas séries da Globo.
thank you sir for posting such a beautiful song from Peter Gabriel and i lost my dad to a stroke, my Army battle buddy and a very close friend all in 1 day both to cancer and they all were fans of this song and it brings me to tears when I listen to this song and think of them as theyre always in my heart and in my thoughts 😢
when you’re young and strong you give your love, energy, time, and money and you think to yourself these are the values I taught to my children and younger relatives who are dear to me, and 40 years later I’m looking for mercy from them, imagine that
Every now and then I walk in on a song, or a poem, and I know that I've just missed out on something deeply profound. Something massive has just happened, and I missed it. I feel like Lancelot in "The Lady of Shalott." I have no fucking clue.
My god, was lost many mant years ago,had a dream this song and story has been with me 30 years, my own nighrmare, but will never forget, cold north Sea winters, lost chances, wasted years, all of it, wish i could put it plain, but dreams that r fevered, days that have no hope i remember
Sorry to bother you, what is the movie you're talking about? If you can give me the year or where I can find it, I would really appreciate it. Thank you ☺️
O sorriso do Lagarto, tema dessa série global, passava tarde da noite. Na época que mataram o PC Farias. Raul Cortez, Maitê Proença, Riccelli e Bruna Lombardi
Not certain about the father references....did Anne Sexton have some type of Daddy complex?...don't know much about her, but I think she was a complex person
Dear sir. This song is my goto when i need calm. your posting is the version i choose most. peter gabriel would be proud of you spreading good vibes over the planet
Doing that currently...
I don’t know what to tell you about that... thanks I guess..
My Dad was my greatest inspiration. He died of Alzheimer's. he is still in my dreams with his favorite dogs in the stars.
My dad's mom had Alzeimer's to. She past away when I was almost turning 7 years old. I can't even totally remember her.😢
It was September or June of 1997 but maybe it could have been a month after my 7nth birthaday. Of 1998...
Sorry for your loss.😢💙

Dieses Lied kann man nur laut hören. ❤
The beauty lives in the eye of those who wants to see it...

There must be a Mercy Street out there somewhere, where we can BE given mercy. For all our mistakes, our errors, our faults..
Selfless love. Didn't seem so cool for years but now I know.
and find acceptance
God's mercy and goodness is always before us. Psalm 103, my friend.
There is, it has many names; the lonesomeroad, the long mile, the valley to which at the end lies the lord of death and the castle born of ice. No judgements in deaths eyes, only rest.
One of the few songs where the humble triangle plays a prominent role.
One of my top 5 songs...
I can’t believe there are other people in the world who put this on their top 5..thought I was alone
Even calling it a masterpiece doesn't do "Mercy Street" justice.
Mine too it is a beautiful song from his 1986 album So which is a masterpiece in it's own right.
It's a very epic, spine tingling, emotional song that there's not enough praise for.
That's deep. So many song.
Para os fracos de coração, essa é só uma música melancólica. Para mim ela é uma viagem . Música marcante é isso
Acende mais um ... 🤪🤪
Still one of my favourite songs of all time...
Very beautiful song...
❤️❤️❤️

Pure magic💛🤩
The hidden depths in all of us and the fear of never expressing them.

Impecável percussão do Djalma Correia.
How does the image you used for the background work so well for the song?
It’s all “in your eyes.”

O sorriso do Lagarto, tema dessa série global, passava tarde da noite. Na época que mataram o PC Farias. Raul Cortez, Maitê Proença, Riccelli e Bruna Lombardi
Whats the thing between this song and Anne? Did he wrote for her?
The song was inspired by the poet Anne Sexton, specifically her poem "45 Mercy Street". She commited suicide when she was 45 years old.
@@thedreamisgone.musica Thank you!
