The world teaches you to move away from the child within yourself where dreams are dreams and life is magical. You have to fight for that mentality as you age
It’s difficult to detached because I live in my own bubble until as I grew older harsh reality became reality and I’m caught in the middle of it and now I have to deal with my emotions and change of mindset at my current age of 56+ 🥺😭.
I heard this song as a child because my dad played it all the time .. I truly understand what it means now 🥹. Thank you for sharing this masterpiece with me RIP DAD 🙏🏼💞
Lost my dad 3 years ago last month. He introduced me to so much music. I came across your post, as I'm sharing this with my 18 year old daughter. I hope you have an amazing day.
When I was a teenager I thought this was just an OK song now that I’m in adult in the last years of my life now it’s almost as if it’s prophecy. The greatest joy in life is to see that magical belief of children and see how they truly believe that everything is so beautiful. Any human that steals that from children is the lowest of the low.
As I read this on Oct 5, 2023, the "replys" to your comment have dwindled down to 2 from the stated 4, so I'll be carefull what I write. Yes,the lyrics have special meaning to those that are in the last years of their adult life, but we must also remember that the meanings here are those preached by the French philosopher Rousseau who "gave" away all of his children to orphanages, and whose musings fed the French revolution. Pure liberalism with so much feeling and emotion.
As an adult, a person often forgets the emotions they had as children. The memories of childhood get corrupted over time. Some moments stick out while others fade away forever. This song has a way of forcing you to recognize and think about how much a person and perceptions change over the years.
always question authority,do not conform,do not comply,do not be corrupted by this crazy world,do not be a vegetable! always loved this song it's getting played at my funeral.
“Tell me who I am.” That line sums up everything. We’re never told as children because nobody knows. So we put on acts and some take them too seriously. Those are the fakes and the trouble makers. Be a genuine fake.
@@kennymilsom One of the experiences in my life were from a very young age (6 or 7 years old). I could feel the indoctrination being taught at school. I would question my friends about the ridiculous lesson we just had, they would believe the teachers just because they were the teacher. People are programmed from a young age to blindly follow and believe what they see on the TV, most of the people in the world are sleep walking.
This song has very sentimental value for me. 1972 my brother and my sister used to listen to this almost every day while my brother took us to school. Had the best memories with my siblings. My brother suddenly passed away in 2013 😢 these songs have special meaning for me.
9 years ago (17 years old) I listened to it for the first time and I couldn’t relate to the lyrics, although I loved it musically. Right now, 9 years have passed (26 years old) and it feels like only 3 since the first time I listened to it. But now it’s totally different.. I just fell into the meaning of the lyrics and they blew up my mind. Such a big difference between then and now.
About “The Logical Song” (1979), singer-songwriter Roger Hodgson claimed : “It’s basically saying that what they teach us in schools is all very fine, but what about what they don’t teach us in schools that creates so much confusion in our being. I mean, they don’t really prepare us for life in terms of teaching us who we are on the inside. They teach us how to function on the outside and to be very intellectual, but they don’t tell us how to act with our intuition or our heart or really give us a real plausible explanation of what life’s about”. “The Logical Song” is the most quoted song in schools. PRETTY IRONICAL‼️ ONE FINAL QUESTION…. Honestly, how many of YOU do RELATE to “The Logical Song”⁉️ 💙📚💛

I love this song. It came out when i was a teen. We had to do a quote in our year book. I use part of this song 43 years ago. This song IS MORE TRUE in 2023.
That's the whole problem, no one can tell us who we are and do we dare tell ourselves!! Greatest song ever moreso now that I'm old and truly understand the unanswerable question!!
Will I ever move on past classic rock? I wonder and then I listen to an amazing song like this from 1979. Way ahead of its time and deep. It was cool when music and philosophy intersected.
The 70s had some of the best albums ever -- with no bad tracks on the whole album. Among them: Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon," Boston's self titled album "Boston," Queen's "A Night At the Opera," and finally this masterpiece! Breakfast In America is easily one of the best albums of the decade. Quite a treat for my teens and twenties.
Three year old me loved this song. My dad played it alot too. He was a fan of the whole album. Over time I grew to love it too. Its crazy, but I still love this song, as a middle aged adult it makes SOOOOO much sense now.
Its JUNE 2022 in the UK.. and for some reason i wanted to search for the lyrics to this..... THEY HIT ME LIKE HAMMER.... Most of the questions ive been trying to make sense of in terms of modern life are here.... beautifully delivered.
What a genius to write this it makes me think of my childhood when I was taking away from my family to be taught how to be logical... This song really gets home
Greeting from Pensacola- July 1 2023 4th of July weekend - man does this take me back or what! So fitting and use to LOVE this song. My how time has flown- and hope everyone enjoys hearing this again as much as I - GREAT song! 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🫶🏻
I used to listen to this song when I was young. I couldn't believe that this song carry a lot of significant meaning. This song is incredible and behind the man nature. Thank y you for sharing the lyrics
‘Breakfast in America’ was one of the first albums I bought. This song brought into sharp focus for me the wrench I felt when I had to leave behind the joyful, fun filled days of ‘playing out’, having fun then coming in for our tea after being at ‘Junior school’ and starting Grammar school with its discipline, homework, exams and expectations of going to university; which in those days a much smaller percentage of students than now in the UK. Now that I’m much older I can see the deeper meanings and themes in the lyrics and how they are even more applicable today.
As a child, I loved the idea of the song.
As an adult, I love the truth of the song.
Same 😊. I’m 60, crying yet smiling in my car after listening. Time …
Indeed. There is some serious life experience in this song.
I'm 59 and I can really relate to this song.
Timeless masterpiece. The lyrics are so ahead of its time
Indeed
especially the word "digital"... but it should be zero-one, zero-one instead of 1,2,3,4,5 (just kidding)
good points are time less
Waaaaaaay ahead of its time. 😊
Microchip of UB series...
It’s 2023/2024 and this song is so applicable and so logical and so sensible ❤
I was just thinking the same thing, 👍👍👍
Take care,
Melbourne, Australia.
Ditto. I've been singing the wrong lyrics in so many 80's songs.

Dude same this was my dad's jam and when spiderhead came on I heard and had to jam his b day was on 4th.
Dang… I didn’t expect to see comments or replies so deep and sad…
My mother used to play this. I had no idea what it meant. Makes too much sense now.
Still love Supertramp at 64 years old.
This song it was decades ahead of it's time
Lol , I've just wrote the exact thing in some previous comments, you are spot on.
Seems your decades behind.
There was a whole lot of deception going on back then too.
No you just caught up with it .
Never understood this until now.
Truly ahead of its time.
Nope, you've just caught up. Excellent song

Love this song. Also, In 1979, Paul McCartney was asked to name his favourite song of the year and he chose this ❤
I love too
Makes so much more sense to me now in 2023 than it did decades ago. Wonderful !"
We need to play this everyday for the kids now day's
When I was young, I felt the meaning of the Song without understanding the words. Today I celebrate the magic of the lyrics. Thanks for sharing ❤
This song simply doesn't age. In fact it seems even more relevant now than it did in '79 (of course, I'm significantly older now)
As an adult, a person often forgets the emotions they had as children. The memories of childhood get corrupted over time. Some moments stick out while others fade away forever. This song has a way of forcing you to recognize and think about how much a person and perceptions change over the years.
That's right.
always question authority,do not conform,do not comply,do not be corrupted by this crazy world,do not be a vegetable!

it's getting played at my funeral.
Maybe even more relevant now than when it was recorded
I believe so.

I grew up listening to Supertramp... now I am a supertramp. Been backpacking living in a tent 5 years in April. 🏕👌
My sister introduced me to supertramp when I was a child... Love you lishy.
Long live the inner child!! If he died inside, it's time to resurrect him 😊
This song makes all of us think for ourselves, for what we have been before, for what we are now.
Exactly and how we see the worlds asleep etc, the lyrics are so true.
