ALWAYS CHECK YOUR OIL !! -- Honda Pioneer 700

- One weekend last summer I noticed my Pioneer-4 was having trouble in reverse. It worked fine in forward drive and only acted odd when I put it into reverse. The oil was so low it would not register on the dipstick. I am always very careful to check my oil before riding, but I forgot to check it that weekend. Shame Shame Shame!
I'll never make that mistake again. Fortunately, the Pioneer was fine, and my dealer this is a very common thing and not to worry about it as long as it's still running fine. Since that episode, I've driven the machine probably 50 miles, and it still purrs like a kitten.
That's quality.
Same thing happened to me on my 2013 Big red last week. Was shifting strange, checked the oil and nothing on the stick. Added a quart and it was fine. Changed the oil yesterday and she's shifting smooth again. Hope I did't damage anything. Going forward I'll checking my oil more often.
My dealer said not to worry, that it's completely normal. I've never had any problems with it. Compliments to Honda for making a solid machine. But now I keep oil with me when I'm far from the shop and check the oil a lot more often. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.
Yes. Basic maintenance is the difference between a dependable machine and a problem.
I have a 2014 Pioneer 700 and it's never used any oil over 7 years and thousands of miles. Can also easily check oil without moving the set by dumping the bed. Same engine that's in the Honda Rincon. Make sure the filter is properly lubed or it will dust the engine and destroy the rings and they will burn oil after that
When my dealer said it was common for these vehicles to use a little oil, I started calling other dealers to check that, and most mechanics at the dealers agree that the 700 will use a little oil occasionally, which can vary with the weather. It doesn't bother me. I always check before I ride, and change it more often than recommended. And I'm very careful to wash down the engine before I change the oil, to avoid getting any dirt into the system. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Are you running the engine before checking the oil?
Check the engine oil level each day before operating your Honda SXS and add, if needed.
Before driving your SXS, check the engine oil level.
1.Park your Honda SXS on a firm, level surface.
2.Start the engine in a well-ventilated area and let it idle for 3 - 5
minutes. Stop the engine and wait 2 - 3 minutes.
3.Remove the front seat (page 124) and left side rubber dust cover. 4.Remove the dipstick from the front crankcase cover and wipe it
clean.
5.Insert the dipstick without screwing it in, then remove the
dipstick and check the oil level. The oil level should be between the upper level mark and the lower level mark on the dipstick.
Thanks. I've always changed my own oil and done an oil change video a couple of years ago. I'm very familiar with everything associated with oil. Credit to Honda for making a solid engine that runs well, even when the oil is low. Thanks for watching.
Did you ever figure out why your oil sump was empty
Mine uses a bunch of oil. Not the only one the dealership knows of doing the same thing. Thinking about putting a new piston kit in it. I carry a quart of oil with me now. 2015 700-4.
I hear from a lot of people who claim their machines use a lot of oil. Mine is still running fine. I frequently check my oil and always keep a couple of quarts too. Thanks for watching and taking the time to reply.
I was told by a Honda technician that if they are driven at constant high speeds like roadways they will use a little oil. Said you won’t see it but high revving causes oil to burn in that single cylinder engine. Just what I was told now…
I've heard the same thing. Thanks for the comment. Thanks for watching.
Anytime you feel it slip check the oil for sure thats what drives your transmission . I learned this the hard way thinking the tranny was going Continued driving until I broke a ring . Believe it or not the old Honda still runs and drives lol uses oil fouls plugs but drive it daily and will until it blows
That shows how well Honda engine are engineered
That was good advice but I would have liked to know why the engine lost its oil ? You never did say why.
I haven't figured out why it uses oil. I store the Pioneer in my shop and there are never oil drops on the floor and the engine stays clean. No signs of any leaks. The dealer said it's normal to use a little oil. I always check it and add a half quart about every 30 hours of use. Thanks for watching and commenting.
And I change the oil more frequently than Honda recommends.
@@MikeM100 That's not normal!!! Have owned several Hondas! You got a problem!
It always ran fine. I sold it to a friend and he routinely adds oil like I did. It's still running great now. Has 2200 miles and purrs like a kitten. I've never figured out why it used oil.
@@MikeM100 Great video! Did you upgrade to the Honda 1000? It would be annoying to add oil that often!

Merry Christmas. Thanks for watching and commenting on my videos.
Why didn't you say why no iol buttercup
Hi Mike, what is the Robot that you have as your logo on your Channel? I used to have that toy when i was a kid, but this is the first time i have seen it in 40 years. What exactly is it?
That's a picture of a replica I built of a robot I had in the mid 70s. The original walked and had flashing lights, but did not move his arms. The one I built walked and had moving arms and could say "Take me to your leader Earthling" or mimic Marvin The Martian saying "You're making me very angry". We moved to a new house about 14 years ago and he disappeared in the move. I keep hoping he will show up some box we forgot to open. Thanks for watching.
@@MikeM100 That's exactly what I had in the mid 70's actually 1975 to be exact. it had two batteries in the back, and when turned on , it would walk a bit then the chest would open and it would fire some lights and the body would rotate like once or twice, if memory serves me. Where did you get this one? or did you build it from scratch?
I built it from scratch from aluminum and painted it. I bought all the electronics, motors, and lights from RadioShack. That was before Amazon. The good ole days
I have a 2014 700 pioneer .i have camso tracks on it ,oil is good, muffler good, spark plug New,
It still wont shift good .its good at beganing but if i press the gaz it does not give more power???what could it b.
I'm not sure about that. Mine has never had that problem. Almost sounds like a dirty fuel filter. They will let gas flow until they get under pressure and then clog up. You may want to clean your tank. A good place to look for help is the Pioneer 700 Owners Facebook group.
Get the transmission map reflashed
Have you ever had a problem with one of the front axle seals leaking ?
No. I ride my Pioneer like a pack mule and it's never given me any trouble.
hello, Are you interested in testing products? We would like to invite you to test the front windshield for your Honda Pioneer 700
You can't see the oil in the stick
The oil was pretty low. But when I changed it that night, nearly the correct amount of oil drained out. The dealer said not to worry about it. That it's normal. It's been running fine ever since.
Honest Man. Must be a Republican.
👍 4. That machine uses too much oil. Just keep checking the oil because without the oil it's not good for the engine
Do not run your engine before you check the oil. What it has no oil? Now you just killed it.
Check first.
To be onest i did not tingk of that.tanks il let you no.
Ps... im french so dont mine my spelling .lol
