It's funny how this arc started with Luffy wanting to go to Marijoa to save Vivi and now, 52 chapters later, Marijoa has come to him. The next 3 chapters will be insane!

Saturn's devil fruit is definitely a yokai called Ushi-oni, which are often depicted to have spider-like legs and a bull-like head. So the 5 Elders are probably yokai/demon themed.

I like the countdowns. Something being repetitive does not make it a bad thing. And that alone is no criticism. What is the fault here. It has been clearly justified in the story

@UltimatePower01 No it isn't. For example almost every arc in a Shounen manga ends with a climactic battle between the main character and the villain of the arc. It is repetitive. But that alone is not a criticism. Many arcs end with Luffy and other strawhats as well as other side characters getting a one v one with major fighters on the opposing sides. It is far more if not equally as repetitive as the countdowns. Yet that alone is not a criticism of the trope. The repetitiveness may annoy you in particular. That is fine. But if you want to cite it as a criticism, you will have to explain why repeating that particular action in some arcs is bad. Otherwise you are confusing your personal feelings with criticism.

Oh Merphy, you sweet summer child, thinking we will actually get to see the Gorosei next chapter and that Oda's not just going to cut away and deal with some side plot., like the Zoro and Lucci fight or whats happening in the labo stratum and the sunny.
Just like people thought we'd get Vegapunk's message this chapter and all Oda gave us was a countdown, he won't show us what the Gorosei look like next week.

Something to note is how when the strawhats and co where purely a physical threat they where fine with taking their time and sending only saturn but the second the threat came in the form of information and knowledge they ( the gorosei) immediately came to stop it

yeah esp. rogersbase. he is doing this ALOT. he has this idea in his head how the story "should go" and doesnt want to have it any other way or else its "bad".
no hate towards roger, but he is doing this alot with one piece(best example his "vivi getting the paw paw fruit theory". he is so convinced this is the way it suppose to go that he doesnt wanna see any other way). Thats why i like Merphys reviews and view on the story. it feels way more open minded and much fresher takes than alot of the other "old guard" of the OP reactor community.

But saying that those fans who liked it were blinded pissed me off specially his reasoning was that the trope was used repeatedly. In my case I don't care if they are repeatedly used as long as it makes sense and it fits the narrative of the story.
In this case it doesn't only fit, it actually elevates everything as well as the stakes.

As soon as Roger started a tantrum, I closed the stream. Im not sure why but in the last months he has been acting like his opinion its the standard and anybody outside his fandom its dumb to have their own. I dont get why people are tying saturn and insect together as "haha youre kind of an insect too" and not Saturn is a Spider who sees all humans as insects(food). Like everyone is pulling insect as irony when it seems more to show the extent of his monstrosity.

People complained a lot in regards to it and how Oda has done this in the past. The thing is... a countdown that's a risk FOR THE BAD GUYS is actually not that common. We had it once at the end of Dressrosa, and even then it's quite a different thing. The heroes' goal is merely surviving/getting out of there. The bad guys have a LOT to do in order to stop what's happening and the stakes are higher than ever

My favorite theory so far is that the video feed isn’t on egghead but on Kamabakka kingdom which means that dragon doing nothing is actually a good thing .
The parallel between Vegapunk + his Stellars and Imu + Elders being hiveminds can also be used for Vegapunks Punkrecords (as in, a wikipedia for everybody to use) and the void history (a huge amount of knowledge deleted from public knowledge).

Vegapunk might be planning on showing some of Kuma's memories. We know he had a way to read them without destroying them, and if you want to show people the truth of the world and the people that run it, Kuma's life is a good place to start.

And I would agree that Kizaru holding his hand over his face could incidate mourning, if it wasn't for the fact that this is the third time he does so this arc so it seems more like it's a "I can't be bothered with this shit" vibe he's giving off.
I like the idea that the Elders communicating is a more honed version of the Voice Of All Things. I also like the idea of the Vegapunks in the message being holograms, and that the footage is actually live, but I don't know what the reason for that could be

I do like the setup, as this allows the straw hat crew to "win" by just holding out for 10 minutes, then escaping. And the gravity of that information being revealed allows the gorosei to go all out and show us their full power, without the gorosei being defeated nor completely destroying the straw hat crew. I'm hoping everyone from this gets a big glow up in how they are presented after all this

A lot of people mention Saturn being a spider as putting him on the level of insects and I don't get it. If anything it gives horrifying new context to his earlier dialog. Spiders eat insects, they are prey.

For the Kizaru panel, is it just me or it looks he isn’t just in mourning but actually is crying? It’s hard to tell due to Oda’s rough art style but it seems like there is two lines going going from it’s hidden eye to his ear that look like tears.
One theory i like is that to support what Vegapunk will expose about the ancient kingdom he needs to show the "hero" and the "culprits"
Which are Nika and the Gorosei hence he lured them by giving them 10 minutes and "live stream" the fight.

The only reason Saturn is there is because of Vegapunk and the command authority. It makes sense for the other Elders to arrive now that Luffy/Nika is also there. However, I have no clue how the stakes aren’t through the roof and Luffy will be able to do a 5v1.

To me, the telepathic communication between the 5 Elders seemed just like when Shirahoshi & Luffy were able to hear the Neptunians, or when Momo & Zunesha were able to communicate with each other.
This got me thinking: Saturn keeps talking about humans as if he's not part of them. So maybe, the 5 Elders really are non-human beings who just each ate different models of the Human-Human-fruit, to pose as them.
If that's not the case, then here's a crazy theory:
Allegedly, zoan-type devil fruits have a "will of their own".
But what's interesting is, that Vegapunk had to rely on studying bloodlines in order to research Devil Fruits.
So my crazy theory is this: individuals from 800y ago have been turned into Devil Fruits, except for the 5 Elders & Imu; aka Saturn really is this creature he's turned into in this chapter!
i have the itch that the buster call is just an imitation of the original buster call which was the five gorosei coming down to obliterate everything back in the forbidden century and it explains why they are coming down.

My prediction for this is since VP was the most intelligent man on earth, bringing the Elders was his plan all along. Not sure about the outcome tho (because how you defeat such monsters after dead?).
I think people disliking the countdown are being distracted way to much or being to naive by it rather than thinking on the events its triggering... There is no reason to give so much importance to a countdown specially just the first chapter that it was mentioned when the trigger effect was summoning all the Elders, thats what matters and people dont really see it! Like come on, its not that deep but it is? lol

At the point where Merphy mentioned himans being called incects by Saturn made me think a bit. What if each of the elders have a different name for humans. Like the bird could call them something like mice as a theme around prey. But not knowing for sure what the others are makes this short theory a bit of a hit or miss.
This is a vibe I get from Saturn frisbee-ing himself back and turning himself into a buzzsaw, but it feels like he's used to fighting in this logic. More precisely, it definitely feels like he's not only seen but fought Nika's powers in the past.
Definitely lends more credence to the "Gorosei and Imu have been alive since Void Century" and also just a cool aspect of the fight. Rather than just taking the giga disrespect hit, being flabbergasted and then coming back for more (Like Kizaru and Kaido), Saturn seems to be using a similar cartoon logic back at Luffy.
Commenting this each time merph calls a Spider an insect. They're arachnids! Arthropods aren’t insects and that's the point and theme for the gorosei; they are so far from human that they manipulate and devour humans.
There's still the robot that might come and help kick some butt with Luffy
I love the fact that the situations is inverted now... Generally, it's the protagonists that have to race against the clock to stop the bad guy's timeline dependant plot.

Let's not forget that Punk Records is actually Vegapunks brain, so he may not actually be dead in the strictet sense. And if the message is really coming from Punk Records it might be that it's not even a recording at all but rather a livestream, which would explain the 10 minutes countdown, and the mesage itself my be showing actual live footage of Luffy as Nika and showing the world the true form of the 5 Elders.
The past 30 chapters are absolutely insane. And the upcomming few will be even more mad and I can NOT wait
honestly my first thought was not the other elders getting summoned but like a weapon getting summoned like the one that wiped lulusia or whatever it was called off the map. The elders does make more sense though 😅

This might sound stupid but your neat idea of Vegapunk and his satellites being a parallelism of the elder stars and Imu lead me to come up with this: If you have 6 on one side and 5 on the other that does not sound quite correct so it would subsequently seem feasible for their to be a kind of sixth elder star. However if we consider the satellites to "orbit" around Vegapunk, we must ask what the elder stars actually "orbit" around and that would be the sun and in that idea the missing elder star would be the earth/Imu. However since this would mean Imu would be on par with the other Gorosei and I don't that's the case, neither do I think that the elder stars are actually orbitting around Luffy as our current sun god. My idea is now a bit far fetched. What if Imu is simultaneously the sixth Elder Star but also the former sun god (however that may be possible, maybe Imu and the sixth elder star fused in a way or whatever). If that were true, it would mean the Gorosei would orbit around Imu instead of Luffy. Or what seems much more likely is that originally the gorosei were supposed to serve the sun god, but Imu somehow took over and made them serve him and prohibitted the worship of the sun god (which would be a parallelism for the church prohibitting the heliocentric modell of our solar system). That is of course all just speculation and I am probably very wrong, but nevertheless thanks for bearing with me for that long and have a nice day😄
I agree with your Imu theory. I think the Saturn is way too inhuman to actually being a human being. I mean, this spider form doesn’t seem a transformation (like Kaido’s dragon form). It almost feels like it’s true self. Idk if they are devil fruit users. My theory is that Imu is a devil fruit user and the elders are his summons from his devil fruit (like Cracker’s biscuit or Big Mom’s homies, but with more independence). It’s either that or they are actually devils (I mean, the name devil fruit must come from somewhere, maybe there truly are some devils and the fruits are just a prison of sorts, and the elders are free from their prison).
Saturn’s not a spider, he’s an Ushi-oni, it’s a Japanese bull-spider demon. I’m betting the other elders are all demons too.

One thing I dont understand is why can't the message be played in loop, given it wouldn't take more than 10-15mins. So by this way even if they stop the playback by 10 mins atleast it would have reached most people if not for all, that's enough to get the ball rolling. And playing on loop has upside of whoever missed it first time can listen/watch it so they don't have to take others word for it. So only reason the most brilliant scientist in one piece choose this way should be plot convenience and create drama out of ticking time bomb(not really)
I absolutely loved this chapter because just getting the truth of the world that easily would make it seem cheap, but now I know why Robin is asleep, can't spoil her dream for her on egghead! Plus having that count down seems like more of "clearly we can't defeat these guys, we just have to hold them off for ten minutes" kind of fight and I am so here for it. I really don't know how this arc is going to end. I just love hearing everyone's theories, this fandom is so smart sometimes it is crazy.

7:30 I don't think we'll get a full message from Vegapunk. Knowing Oda and think on how things are going, I'm almost certain that we'll get only part of the message because the Gorosei will do what they got there to do, but they'll be a little too late because it was such a surprise to them. So I think we'll have a hint of what Vegapunk discovered during his research and the rest will be left for the real endgame.
I think Merphy is making the "animalistic" aspect more complicated than it has to be.
I have been calling this from day 1, but to me now is more obvious than ever: the gorosei are mythical zoans. Saturn just went from hybrid to full animal.

What if Imu ate the Den Den Mushi devil fruit. He could probably create a psychic link between the gorosei which explains how they can communicate with each other. Also it could mean that he is connected to every den den mushi in the word explaining how he seems omnipotent. Plus the eyes are similar. It is just silly enough to work in one piece and it could be pretty OP with the right user.

I have thought about the Imu satellite theory for a very long time.
Think about the aspects of Vegapunk split into the satellites and consider where the overlaps would be and what would be missing.
Perhaps Imu only has five because Punk-01 is Shaka, who is the aspect of Vegapunk's Good.
I wonder how long the countdown will actually last. We saw people all over the world already set up; will the Vegapunks’ countdown just keep filibustering despite that to add to the drama? I definitely think the broadcast will be cut off at some point, so will Vega (logically) throw the most important information at the beginning or build it up too long before some major reveals? We definitely need to save some info for Laugh Tale…
I really think the broadcast is going to be a video of Kuma's memories of God Valley. We know that Vegapunk was experimenting with the memories. And the world seeing the Celestial dragons essentially do a genocide for sport would sure stir the pot.
My thoery is that the broadcast signal is in kamabakka kingdom that’s why Shaka was on the phone with dragon in the beginning of the arc to give him a heads up that signal might be broadcast shortly and who better to protect it than dragon
