less the average idea, are we really accepting the power rangers silly ideas ? wasn't sanji's brothers enough of a failure in the character design aspect?
@Roronoa Boa the one i do not trust with the character and ability designs is oda lol, i genuinely was disappointed in the germa character designs, way too cartoony and power ranger like, not one piece and anime style whatsoever, what can syborgs do other than shooting laser beams and making big explosions ?
I completely agree with the Boa/Pudding take. Pudding was done much better than Boa was via the storytelling. Its not a matter of which character is better or more popular its simply a matter of how they were handled in the narrative and Pudding got the better of it there.
the difference is, Boa's lovy dovy is written as actual comedic relief Puddin's lovy dovy is part of the actual character development, with reasons behind it that go beyond the comedy.
The contrast between Boa and Pudding with the way they fell in love with Luffy & Sanji respectively shows which one is more relatable, in my opinion. Luffy was the only one who didn't fall in love with Boa at first, and Sanji was the first one who showed genuine love towards Pudding. So I think it's more relatable with Sanji x Pudding.
'twas was never a matter of "if", only "when Murphy will appear in her room to talk with a Dude in a Room" Loved this! She's got this happy energy that gives to the fandom and is greatly appreciated
Liam knows One Piece better than Oda at this point. How he can recall character names from 15 years ago and drop the name of anime directors at the same time is mind blowing to this 20+ year anime fan.
It is funny going back to this late into Egghead and how Merphy, with some of the details a bit hazy, somewhat called the S-Snake and others with the warlords~
So true about Sabo. If we heard of him before Ace’s death then his reemergence would’ve been legendary. But his introduction afterwards felt like Oda trying to have his cake and eat it too. Shame because I love Sabo’s personality and root for him, but I can’t escape a nagging sourness whenever he’s on screen.
I disagree, his existence is in universe shown through aces tattoo, thought to be dead and why would either character bring him up for no reason in universe while they believe he's dead?
In the first panel with Ace, Luffy and the sake cups at the start of Marineford, you can see a third cup off to the side. So it must have been planned in some way
@@asksalottle220 but Sabo as a character, as a person, essentially wasn't revealed to the audience until Ace died which is not exactly high quality writing since it felt cheap. Oda name drops characters all the time that don't appear for hundreds of chapters. If he really wanted a second brother for Luffy it would have been better to hint at his existence earlier on. And to be honest it didn't even need to be that much earlier. When Luffy found out that Ace was going to be executed, he was in a hurry to go save him. A "I don't want another brother of mine to die" comment by Luffy couldve easily been used anytime between Amazon Lily and Marineford in order to prep the audience for the reveal of Sabo
I actually think that One piece is actually the most detailed world building in fiction. I would even have the cheek to say the world building at this point has actually exceeded Tolkien. Because even though Tolkien has created a rich history with middle earth, Oda has actually mapped out the geography, culture and economic systems of probably over 50 countries within one piece.
I'd say Oda and Tolkien are level with the two focusing on vhastly different concepts in their world building. Oda deep dived into governement structures, economic balances, social strata etc. But Tolkien created entire languages and cultures, fleshing out thousands of years of history. I imagine we'll get a more complete sense of the history of OP when the void century is revealed but I doubt it'll be as involved as Tolkien. Ultimately their world building reflects their world. Oda stretched out touching several countries, regions, islands, oceans and more. While Tolkien stretched back, sticking with 1 landmass but touching on several ages within.
man... i never thought for a second that they were planning on making "pacifistas" with other strong characters in one piece.... and now seeing the seraphims im mind blown... thats kanjuro-being-the-traitor-level of theory
With the cesspool that the one piece community has become over the past couple years hearing the positivity coming from new comers like merphy and Daniel is so refreshing, as well as ppl like glr, tekking, joy girl, and manu
It's funny that she in 18:06 mentioned that she she was wrong with her theory bc she thought world gov wants to "kuma" all the warlords, and now this is really happening with Oda showing the Seraphim Pacifistas
I would love to hear some experiences of readers of literature getting into manga, and readers of manga getting into literature as a result of Merphy and/or Daniel reading One Piece. I feel like this "movement" has bridged a gap between the two communities and it's been beautiful to see. They show so much respect towards eachother.
Personally I feel like Oda doesn't like killing characters. He belongs to the previous generation of shounen mangakas who rarely uses death as a means to have something impactful happen. But modern anime/manga almost has death every time. It would be nice for him to start breaking out a bit from the traditional and older shounen manga style of stories.
The most egregious one is definitely Pell. Man is literally just there now doing nothing. Like I get not wanting to kill characters but if you're not gonna use a character and you do a fake out death it just frustrates people. It would be fine if he was gonna do something but we all know he's not
I know it isnt over but the fact that he didnt kill anyone in Wano it's terrible, I mean it's a war against two yonkos, if nobody dies it feels kind of fake
As much as Oda doesn't like killing characters, he writes some of the best deaths in manga. Like find me a better death than Whitebeard or Oden from any series.
I feel like oda doesn't kill characters unless they have a really really huge impact on the story. Like wheter u kill pell or not it doesn't affect the storty( but i feel like he should have died 😅😅) All the characters that have died are in flashback which have huge impact on the story and the real-time deaths like ace whitebeard pedro also follow the same rule
My philosophy behind theories is that I love making ones I think make sense, but hope all of them are wrong because I have faith that Oda is smarter than me.
dude in the room quick question would you consider being a guest on the one piece manga bros podcast ran by the anime youtubers ruffsenpai, boomsentai and seeohknee

I think Pudding was done better because bouncing off of Sanji was brilliant not only for his development but for hers. Whereas Luffy well…didn’t give a single shit haha. It was nice seeing him understanding there was a friendship though and obviously he was always going to do the right thing for everyone around him…but Sanji adds so many dynamics to WCI as a whole it’s obscene haha.
It makes me sad that I've known about one piece for 15+ years, and I never gave it a chance until about a year ago because luffy looks like a loony toons character, and my intro to anime was, like everyone else in the west in my age group, Akira first, and after desperate searching on earlyish cable, DBZ. BTW, I was one of the many, super saiyan goku gave me goose bumps I loved it so much. Same damn thing happened for me at gear second. Gear 5th and gear 2nd I still can't decide between. Long story shortish, I have have had many many more goosebump moments in One Piece. Oh, and the REAL moment this... manga/anime got me was Nami's tears and luffy giving her the hat. How can you stop after that? I will not.
Ever since you did your first interview on this channel, I had always hoped for this to happen. Love Merphy and love your way of interviewing Liam! Thanks for this. 😊
Very important for my start as a fan was my friends never downplayed the arc. I burn out on mmos so easy when people are like "oh just get to max level it gets good there" most of my OP friends let me enjoy the series for what it was, and I was gonna get to wano when I got there. They'd always "level down" so to speak and talk about the current stuff with as little "just you wait" as possible. There was a lot of grimaces at me saying "Hey so are all the whitebeard memes only from his first appearance?"
My two favorite one piece youtubers giggling while talking about fictional pirates gives me so much joy (sorry, no commas). I have a theory about THE ONE PIECE. To me, What roger found that day was the Manga of One Piece, for two reasos: - First: He laughed, everyone laughed, who reads one piece and don't laugh? - Second: Roger said that it was too soon, it was because Oda didn't finish the manga yet, but when luffy finds it, the manga will be complete.
One critique I would give this video is that there was no introduction to who Merphy is. I had to Google find out because I waited several minutes into it hoping to find out who she is and why she was someone being interviewed. Love your content, just maybe introduce them next time. Not everyone follows every youtuber
@@theifzelnite1087 I unfortunately have never had the opportunity to read the manga. But it is definitely one of the most beautifully handled Anime. But they did have to advantage of being able to work on it after the story was complete.( with FMAB obviously)
Not gonna lie it'd be based, meta and hilarious for Oda's 25+ year story to conclude with the one piece being sake, just literal alcohol, by the time they reach it the strawhats will all be old disgruntled alcoholics
One of the things that really stands out to me about Merphy's meteoric rise in popularity with the OP fandom is that she's almost a proxy for that friend or family member that we've all tried to get into reading the series, while all of us know full well that the barrier of entry is daunting and understand their reluctance. But once they finally give it a go, we get to watch them fall in love with OP almost in real time. It's beautiful. To top it all off, with her expertise in literary analysis she brings so much more to the table in terms of themes, character moments, and well I could go on and on.
Gecko moria is a really deep character when you look past his placement in The story. I dont think enough was done to look at moria’s past And how he suffered And how his world views were affected by those Crashing defeats And experiences in The New World. He even storms onto blackbeards island Just to try And save his Crew member And once again his Crew mate is slaughtered before he arrives. Thats pretty tragic when you think about It.
I feel completely the same with Kuma, he’s such a mystery and he’s affiliated in some sort of way with every major party in the OP world and I just want his flashback, his moment and I wanna see how his character eventually affects the story as a whole. Always been a huge Kuma fan. Also, I hate to be “that guy” but I can’t help it, Merphy is gorgeous like wow…. I mean her being so smart and bright definitely adds to it, but just wow haha
I just discovered her review series just as I’ve been finishing going through TotallyNotMark’s journey(only three videos left as of now), so once I finish that I’m going to be watching her’s next!
Oh I see why the "Pudding is better executed than Boa" opinion is quite controversial, and i think it's mainly because we are mostly manga readers while for Merphy this was one of her firsts so she doesnt know how usual the tsundere characteristic is in anime/manga. So even if it was a well made tsundere character, to most of us it feels like "oh not this again" and maybe thats why the characterisation feels a lot weaker even if it wasnt the case
I think there's a quote from One Piece that is coincidentally quite fitting to describe Merphy, myself, and many others' experience with the series as we were first falling in love with the world and its' story. "Frog in the well, know how wide the ocean is."
@@Ghost-zj4pc I do know that it is a very old proverb! But that also doesn't change that the phrase was spoken in One Piece by a character, this making that sentence the literal definition of the term "a quote from One Piece." It's more relevant that it was spoken by a OP character, because this is a comment on a OP discussion. I didn't see the need to elaborate.
I agree 1000000% about the fake out deaths, but TBF I think some could be be made sense like Pell's survival makes perfect sense because we learned that HAKI HAS ALWAYS EXISTED IN-WORLD and the fact that he is a ZOAN and he could have awakened his DF and we know awakened Zoan's are tougher and more resilient Pound's survival could be due to the fact that the Big Mom pirates went easy on him since he's a step-dad, I like to think they're ruthless but not evil so they let him get away Kinemon's fake out albeit it dumb, it does make sooooooome sense, it ties back to Punk Hazard, but personally it's really unneeded but I think the reason for his survival might be to join the Straw Hats since Momo won't since he's royalty and most probably (99%) an ancient "weapon", Kinemon was asked to join in Punk Hazard (his legs though)
@@marocat4749 While true, have you forgotten that: 1) Oden was also a father 2) Oden is still chose to leave despite being the next ruler 3) It's sooooo rare for someone to develop a new dream isn't it? less the average idea, are we really accepting the power rangers silly ideas ? wasn't sanji's brothers enough of a failure in the character design aspect?
@Roronoa Boa the one i do not trust with the character and ability designs is oda lol, i genuinely was disappointed in the germa character designs, way too cartoony and power ranger like, not one piece and anime style whatsoever, what can syborgs do other than shooting laser beams and making big explosions ?
“I try not to think about it, the moment the one piece is revealed signals the beginning of the end” in Liam’s head …(of my OP career)
Dayum... watching this after the last chapters... Merphy totally got it right with the Seraphims.
Merphy has observation haki confirmed
This is crazy I just found her Channel last night and listen to her for about 2 hours. I listened to her marineford breakdown. She's pretty awesome.
i envy you.. go watch her journey from the start.
I completely agree with the Boa/Pudding take. Pudding was done much better than Boa was via the storytelling. Its not a matter of which character is better or more popular its simply a matter of how they were handled in the narrative and Pudding got the better of it there.
Pudding had about 80 chapters to flesh her out whereas Hancock had about 10 including a couple panels from Impel, Marine and Return to SA.
the difference is, Boa's lovy dovy is written as actual comedic relief
Puddin's lovy dovy is part of the actual character development, with reasons behind it that go beyond the comedy.
She just predicted the seraphim. Wow.
'twas was never a matter of "if", only "when Murphy will appear in her room to talk with a Dude in a Room"
Loved this! She's got this happy energy that gives to the fandom and is greatly appreciated

Liam knows One Piece better than Oda at this point. How he can recall character names from 15 years ago and drop the name of anime directors at the same time is mind blowing to this 20+ year anime fan.
He remembering the shovel guy was amazing haha
Thats a bold statement xD oda remember random sht in one piece from 10000 years ago
Best reason to love crocodile is, ‘hisashiburi dana, Mugiwara’ from impel down
Has anyone asked Merphy to do reaction videos on One Piece openings? There are high quality videos available on YT. Could be fun.
Please!
Sake has a fermentation process. Roger saying "We were too early" can also mean sake was not ready to drink.
It Wil neverl be sake, this theory is the must dumb ever create, oda dont the messege of 30 of story bê alchool
18:00 right on the money, that’s crazy lol
I just want to say, Sabo is also my least favourite character.
Liam's just like: "Who is Tree-head...?" 🤣
Really hope you talk to her again after she finishes HxH. Would be great to hear another discussion
With recent revelations Merphy almost nailed on the head the Kuma incident. Kudos to her
It is funny going back to this late into Egghead and how Merphy, with some of the details a bit hazy, somewhat called the S-Snake and others with the warlords~
@@braedenmahar597 Both Luffy and Ace say Sabos name during Marineford though.
@@sorakazesenpai do they? I can't believe I missed that. Do you remember about when either mentioned them?
@@yuukinoyuki9064 That is a very unique way of looking at it. Never thought of it that way.
man... i never thought for a second that they were planning on making "pacifistas" with other strong characters in one piece.... and now seeing the seraphims im mind blown... thats kanjuro-being-the-traitor-level of theory
With the cesspool that the one piece community has become over the past couple years hearing the positivity coming from new comers like merphy and Daniel is so refreshing, as well as ppl like glr, tekking, joy girl, and manu

this video is a dream come true for me i met murphy bc of liam and now seeing the together talking ab one piece 😭😭 i need more
Can't believe she predicted the Warlords pacifistas.
I would love to hear some experiences of readers of literature getting into manga, and readers of manga getting into literature as a result of Merphy and/or Daniel reading One Piece. I feel like this "movement" has bridged a gap between the two communities and it's been beautiful to see. They show so much respect towards eachother.
Omg that would be amazing. They are both great forms of art
11:28 At this moment the fireworks started outside and I thought it was in the video, lmao
It would be fine if he was gonna do something but we all know he's not
@@darknesswave100 SPOILER
Because he's Pluton lmao.
Wait 5 years.
Like wheter u kill pell or not it doesn't affect the storty( but i feel like he should have died 😅😅)
All the characters that have died are in flashback which have huge impact on the story and the real-time deaths like ace whitebeard pedro also follow the same rule
Love this video! I’m so glad you brought Merphy and love the conversations/interactions.
What I truly like about gear 5 is before it was introduced seemly everyone thought it be a serious power up but we got something else entirely
And pretty much almost everyone universally loved it except for a small minority.
@@chubbyalonso3687 and those people are the people who are still stuck on the idea of wanting to have a serious power up.
All those garbage fanarts (no disrespect meant to the artists) of theoretical Gear 5 being in full black armanent with spiky hair or whatever Super Saiyan ripoff design and Oda makes him a white Looney Toons cartoon, so good.
I have been binjing her One Piece Reviews and I’ve been enjoying seeing her blind reactions and how it exactly how we all felt reading through. Glad to see you guys collab, Great video!!

Just watched this video after chapter 1059
And 18:09 has aged so well
Merphy observation haki confirmed
Welp. She wanted the tragedy of kuma's past. Can't say oda didn't deliver.

I wish these interview style content had time stamps.
I know! Merphy hates Caribou because of the way he moves. He doesn't walk, he sort of.. undulates.
I hate you for using that word.......

I will not.
12:10 I was not ready for that... not one bit.
completely agree on the not getting to wrapped up on what the One Piece is thing
Ever since you did your first interview on this channel, I had always hoped for this to happen. Love Merphy and love your way of interviewing Liam! Thanks for this. 😊
Very important for my start as a fan was my friends never downplayed the arc. I burn out on mmos so easy when people are like "oh just get to max level it gets good there"
most of my OP friends let me enjoy the series for what it was, and I was gonna get to wano when I got there. They'd always "level down" so to speak and talk about the current stuff with as little "just you wait" as possible.
There was a lot of grimaces at me saying "Hey so are all the whitebeard memes only from his first appearance?"
Merphyyyy!!! I never clicked faster in my life!
18:16 this aged well (and gained wings along the way)
Literally 18:16 spoilers for chapter 1059 😂😂😂😂
I watched Merphies journey through One Piece after you made a vid about her earlier Liam and its been sooo much fun !
My two favorite one piece youtubers giggling while talking about fictional pirates gives me so much joy (sorry, no commas).
I have a theory about THE ONE PIECE. To me, What roger found that day was the Manga of One Piece, for two reasos:
- First: He laughed, everyone laughed, who reads one piece and don't laugh?
- Second: Roger said that it was too soon, it was because Oda didn't finish the manga yet, but when luffy finds it, the manga will be complete.
That would be nice 4th wall breaking
cyborg mihawk huh
Thank you!! I hate Sabo for existing. It’s not that he’s done anything. He just feels cheap and people always give me hate for it.
One critique I would give this video is that there was no introduction to who Merphy is. I had to Google find out because I waited several minutes into it hoping to find out who she is and why she was someone being interviewed. Love your content, just maybe introduce them next time. Not everyone follows every youtuber
Merphy saying "Ashura will do something soon" didn't age well😂
Well he did something almost impossible for One Piece standards....
He stayed dead
Hearing the words "lost interest" when talking about FMA hurts me deep in my soul
Right? But oh well lmao
Same but she's gonna read it again soon :)
Hopefully now that she's more into manga she'll read it again. I've read the manga and watched Brotherhood more times than I can count at this point
@@darknesswave100 I’ll say this, anime is better than Manga
Great interview as always. Looking forward to watch her content. First time hearing about her
I just discovered her review series just as I’ve been finishing going through TotallyNotMark’s journey(only three videos left as of now), so once I finish that I’m going to be watching her’s next!
She's very entertaining when she's talking about the series. Can tell she truly loves it
After watching this the algorithm decided to recommend me her channel I'm now fully caught up to get hxh reviews and eagerly awaiting chimera ant arc
I hope she goes back to Fullmetal Alchemist. It's an all time great and a good story even outside of manga.
Well, Merphy's theory on the World Government planning to cyborg all warlords aged pretty damn good, I would say
If Merphy likes non-cluttered art with clean backgrounds she might like the art of Bleach
that one commenter is like the guy that asked Gol D Roger about his treasure
Oh I see why the "Pudding is better executed than Boa" opinion is quite controversial, and i think it's mainly because we are mostly manga readers while for Merphy this was one of her firsts so she doesnt know how usual the tsundere characteristic is in anime/manga. So even if it was a well made tsundere character, to most of us it feels like "oh not this again" and maybe thats why the characterisation feels a lot weaker even if it wasnt the case
Daniel, Rogersbase, Merphy, i think the next one is gonna be TNM lmao.
Holy shit. They predicted the cyborg warlords..
I think there's a quote from One Piece that is coincidentally quite fitting to describe Merphy, myself, and many others' experience with the series as we were first falling in love with the world and its' story.
"Frog in the well, know how wide the ocean is."
Its not a one piece quote
It’s a Japanese proverb 🙂
@@Ghost-zj4pc I do know that it is a very old proverb! But that also doesn't change that the phrase was spoken in One Piece by a character, this making that sentence the literal definition of the term "a quote from One Piece."
It's more relevant that it was spoken by a OP character, because this is a comment on a OP discussion. I didn't see the need to elaborate.
damnit merphy you are to blame with kuma's backstory
Looks very marriageable
I love Fishmen Island and Skypia! I never get how people skipped those?! And i also think, that fishmen island is an absolute masterpiece! :)
Username checks out
Hold on... her kuma theory is actually pretty accurate...
I agree 1000000% about the fake out deaths, but TBF I think some could be be made sense like Pell's survival makes perfect sense because we learned that HAKI HAS ALWAYS EXISTED IN-WORLD and the fact that he is a ZOAN and he could have awakened his DF and we know awakened Zoan's are tougher and more resilient
Pound's survival could be due to the fact that the Big Mom pirates went easy on him since he's a step-dad, I like to think they're ruthless but not evil so they let him get away
Kinemon's fake out albeit it dumb, it does make sooooooome sense, it ties back to Punk Hazard, but personally it's really unneeded but I think the reason for his survival might be to join the Straw Hats since Momo won't since he's royalty and most probably (99%) an ancient "weapon", Kinemon was asked to join in Punk Hazard (his legs though)
Which would be weird i he joins, because all his goala ar his wano, his wife and momo. Momol still will need him. And he i his dad now.
@@marocat4749 While true, have you forgotten that:
1) Oden was also a father
2) Oden is still chose to leave despite being the next ruler
3) It's sooooo rare for someone to develop a new dream isn't it?
All this to say, Kin can still join, he can still abandon Tsuru for a while, and Momo is a grownass man now, he'll mature the hard way, without another father lol
I really want merphy to watch morj's dawn of the world video. She likes themes, and that's probably my favorite video in the community that goes hard on themes.
