Actually Amami Oshima was part of the Ryukyus until the Satsuma Clan came & overthrew the Ryukyu Kingdom. Because of all the native islanders fighting against them. Satsuma took away these islands as punishment & made them part of Satsuma which is present day Kagoshima.

This is a folk song from Amami Oshima and the language she is singing is Okinawan and not Japanese. Please notice how much feeling she is conveying when she sings this shimauta with her eyes closed everything is so expressive. I wish she would have worn Amami Oshima or Okinawan style kimono. I like to see the styles of Amami Oshima and be proud of it. This song is becoming readily recognizable thanks to Asazaki Ikue Sama. This was a piece on the Anime series "Samurai Champuru"

All the people of the islands fought the Japanese. In retaliation they captured the King of Okinawa & held him prisoner in mainland Japan for many years. They took Amami Oshima & made it a part of Satsuma which is now Kagoshima. As the generations continued the Japanese Yamatu influence changed some of their ways but deep down they know that they are Okinawan Shimanchu from Amami. This is the difference. もう何年、何十年前の事なんですが、何かの音楽番組を見ていてこの曲と出逢いました。
涙が抑えれませんでした。
初めての経験でした

音楽や唄声が心に響く事を身体で感じた最初の出来事でした。
とあるアニメの挿入歌でこの曲が使われていてその時も
最初の出逢いの時同様に涙が抑えれませんでした。
今、僕は難病患者で余命を宣告されて

心折れそうな時は、この曲を聴いて

軽率に帰りながら聞いてしまって、涙が止まらなくなったので家に入れない。歌詞の内容が分かるわけではないのに。なんて歌なんだろう。
社会に負けまいと、頑張る日が続いていました、そんな時に通勤電車の中でこの曲と出会いました。なぜか分かりませんが涙をこらえる事が出来なくなり、人ごみの電車ですすり泣いていました。言葉はわかりませんが、心に訴えかけてくる。そんな一言では言い表すことが出来ない神聖な音楽だと感じました。

元ちとせさんで奄美島唄の存在を知り、サムライチャンプルーでこの方の存在を知り、 何とも歌詞が分からなくとも涙が出てくる本物に出会えたと当時思いました。(元ちとせもすばらしいですよ) この方の大ファンだという監督さんに感謝しかない。
ライブでお見かけしたのはもう十年以上前で、自分含め色んなものが褪せてったが
朝崎さんの歌は、やっぱり凄い。心で唄うってこういう事かって。
神々しくも侘しさがあり、穏やかな海底のように充実した重さと柳のようなしなやかさ、根っこの様な強さもある。

ええうみの一番めの歌詞が好き。着飾りたいけれど、片袖のない着物。ひとつあるはね(着物)は愛しい人に着せてあげ、私は奥山のかずらをまといます、、東北の、継ぎ足されて着られた着物(BORO)を思いだします。愛しく美しい曲。
ピアノのアレンジで聴きやすい。そしてメロディが良い。更に歌詞が良い。
