This comment section feels like a secret place for all of us seeking pure emotion, sadness, history and truth of this world.. I seek for this artist whenever I feel lonely and misunderstood, yet my heart and mind become so peaceful when I see there is a handful of you from all around the world who have found this sacred place... so happy to know there are beautiful people like you, so if you are here listening this for the first time or you've been familiar with this music diamond for some time, thank you for making this world a better place and making me feel like I am not alone even in the darkest hours!

Couldn't have said it better. I'm a twenty one year old male living in Sri Lankan. I'm still studying and trying to become an author. I see soo many people in this comment section which made me feel really happy because we all are here for the same reason. To enjoy a piece of music like this I don't think you could be another clot chaser in a social media site. I just recently came to actually search this theme upon hearing it on NHK world documentary ' seasoning the seasons ' for several weeks.
I'm just too happy to see you all gathered in here listening to this. It's such a pleasure. I see everywhere how wrong the world has become. Relationships, people, ethics, they have all blurred out because of the influence today's people are getting from sources they now believe is superior. I just hope that one day I will have friends who I can enjoy these things with me. Though as unlikely as it sounds I have found all of you here so it's not too late. Keep looking for new things and keep on trying to be the best all of you can. Be kind and be grateful to all around you. You guys are beautiful people

"Yoisura-bushi" is a traditional folk song from the Amami Islands in present day Kagoshima prefecture.
It was also handed down to Okinawan tradition.
It’s a song of protection for brothers or men who have gone out to sea, and is based on the belief in a god, or "Onarigami" [“Unarikami” in Amami dialect], who lives in sisters. A white bird or swan perched upon a ship’s stern is regarded as a symbol of Onarigami, and considered a good sign. The title of the song comes from the traditional musical accompaniment of “Sura-Yoisura”.
The words below were translated from Amami into Japanese, and are difficult to translate precisely into English because of some culturally understood meanings. But it’s the lament of a sailor on the high seas who wishes for a sister-goddess, or “Unari-kami” to worship for the blessings of good fortunes against the pull of the gods.
(No boat upon a high ship, Yoisura)
(No boat upon a high ship, Yoisura)
(No swan sitting, Sura Yoisura Yoi)
(The swan is not there, Yoisura)
(The swan is not there, Yoisura)
(Without a sister goddess [Unarikami]. Sura Yoisura Yoi)
(I would worship you, Yoisura)
(I would worship you, Yoisura)
(Sura Yoisura)
(I don’t see good fortune in dreams, Sura Yoisura Yoi)
(To match the pull of the gods, Yoisura)

For some odd reasons, this reminds me of either long faded hopes and dreams or, rather,.....
.....long faded memories one hopes to reclaim, trying to catch them as they float further and further away, like dandelion seeds to the wind .
Frankly, I think the latter of I've said which would be worse.

This song is so full of emotions, so brakes my soul in little parts. . . . Before this song my true love leaves me forever and she brakes my heart at all.
Hearing this sand song I relive her denying, and die again.

I love this woman's voice. She is hauntingly wonderful. I have no Idea what she is saying but strangely it makes no difference. Perhaps you might know the name of the song she sings that is featured on NHK'S Seasoning the Seasons. I can't seem to find it. It has the same haunting beauty. She is really a great talent. Anyone out there know the name of the song on NHK?

      Chris Lehman
I was so smitten by the soundtrack of that series I actually asked NHK World about it and here's what they said.
      ----------------
The theme song "AHAGARI," which was produced exclusively for the program, is the song that is based on the traditional Amami Shimauta (the Japanese traditional folk songs of Amami Islands), with lyrics written by Ikue Asazaki who sings this song. The title "AHAGARI" is an Amamian word that means everything is bright.
For your information, this song is commercially available on CD, and apparently it can be purchased online. If you are interested, we believe that you would be able to search it over the internet. (To be on the safe side, please make sure to preview the song before purchasing.)
We hope the above information helps.
Thank you once again, and we hope you will continue to enjoy "Seasoning the Seasons" along with other NHK WORLD TV programs.
      Regards,
      NHK WORLD

we are thirsty for history.... , the onikawan people were the minority of the japanese civilization , this pain can only be developed by a culture that has experienced the discrimination of 100 years. Which they tried to overcome by overthrowing the shogunate every single year through the 100
