We just went through this bought a van already had our gu patrol series 1 and series 1 patrols can only have a max ball weight of 200 kgs, total so we are over ball weight and gvm then found out y62 series 5 has the best tow scale for us as well.
Yeah it’s a big pain in the butt with the ball weight problem with the 61’s and some of the earlier 62’s as we like our patrols. But still even though the series 5 don’t have the same problem and give you a great CGVM than the earlier ones they are still very heavy and don’t leave you much payload before hitting the GVM. From there tare weight ( on spec sheet ) you need to add the weight of the fuel and ball weight then that will give you an idea on how much payload you will have left before you and your family hope in plus anything else you wish to carry.
Hey mate, maybe too little too late, I'm in the process of getting a GVM update to 3500 Kg, once they reinforce the rear axle and diff, the engineer will supply documents to indicate the de-rating tab (what you're experiencing) will no longer apply, the engineer will actually remove the decal sticker from the rear door.. But was told to keep the document for the boys in blue, A copy of the engineer's statement would also be sent to my insurance company... So in effect, I will still keep my max GVM with a TBW upto 350Kgs.. Work done by the same company contracted to emergency services and SES vehicles..

Yes a little late lol but not gone unnoticed by far even though we’ve brought a new rig the patrol is still very much in the family. 👍 By going the way we did we may for spent a few $$$ but our total CGVM is way under than what it was with the old girl. I got the gu patrol as well. You can update the gvm and it get you up to 3.5 ton tow capacity. I asked what needs to be change? The answer was funny because they telling me all the breaking systems and suspension and wheel bearings and anything related to gvm and towing are the same as any other patrol. The only thing is different is piss of paper and it costs 4.5k to get that paper.
Hey mate just looking on my patrol back door and I have a different zd30ddti which is not on that sticker. When u look in the manual it said except the zd30ddti engine auto. I have a dx walkabout. Tow capacity 3.2t .I dont know if that helps.
Can you please tell me why you keep saying your GVM is only 3300 when the sticker says GVM 3500? Is it because you have to deduct the 200 towball weight from the GVM?
Thank you for the Question. When you look at the sticker the weights that you see are for the capacity of what you are allowed to tow as per what motor / gearbox set up you have. The 3300 Gvm that you are asking about is how much this Patrol can weigh including the ball weight of what you are towing the passenger’s and all the goodie’s you choose to have on it or put in like fridge chairs extra batteries ect.
