Love the video. We have similar stories. I was a 911 paramedic in a fast paced County for 10 years. After my Dr. Put me on disability for the 4 th time he refused to return me to work. I was officially disabled and I spent a year in deep depression and pain. Still live on pain meds 22 years later. Your video is spot on brains over brawn. Whether it's work or survival.
I really appreciate the kind words and positive feedback.. Thank you for sharing your story as well.. We may be old and broke down but we’ll still get there with grit 👊🏻
Amen brother
Been in/around disaster relief for, what, 10 years-ish? LOVE< LOVE< LOVE this approach! Thank you! Best yes.
Got my vote. This is good for us older preppers too, as when we get to our 60s we realize that we have to be prepared but have bad backs and 20 lbs can be heavy. Thanks for being brave enough to say you can’t carry a heavy pack any more!
Thank you! I appreciate that very much 🔥
I walk my dog and started carrying a pack about 3 years ago.(retirement is great) The load out is now 28 pounds. I'm averaging 100 miles a month lately. I know that if push come to shove I could carry twice that and cover at least ten miles a day, set up camp and do it again the next day and the next day...
It take practice, it takes good shoes, it takes up a lot of time.
If you haven't started carrying, do it sometimes. Get out of the house after supper once a week with that pack on, come home after dark. Try it in the winter. You notice who doesn't shovel their sidewalk and where the sidewalk doesn't even exist. .
Why the hell do I carry 28 pounds? Water for me and the dog is the biggest, most of the stuff is so rarely used, but has been used. But it is great exercise and practice. The dog loves it, I love it and my wife has the house to herself for a while every day, so she loves it. (and before you say anything about my wife, she is a better shot that everyone except two people I know, and she is equal to them)
Everything sounds good to me! Glad to read about what you’re doing- keep it up!
You are correct about getting out and doing it now.
An emergency, or shtf situation, isn’t where you want to find out how far you can travel in a day.
Yes, do it! To the first option.
Great video my friend, thank you for sharing it. All the best to you and stay safe out there.
Yes keep it coming
Roger Wilco 👊🏻
See you again absolutely you and Jason that will be a plus thank you very much and stay safe out there

Another great video JJ
Thank you! 👊🏻🔥👊🏻
Go for it!
A full tang knife in addition to the multi-tool, and basic first aid. Yes, a collaborative video with Jason has my vote. Way to hustle last week - epic effort. Thank you for the content. Cheers !!!
Vote counted! #19 I really appreciate the kind words and yes, I agree! I have those items in my EDC.. Thanks for watching and you have my gratitude for the positive feedback 👊🏻🔥👊🏻
Great Informative Video!
Thanks, Brother!!
Would love to see a collaboration video. I like the idea of the solo stove. I currently carry a Esbit style in my pack with a eight pack of fuel tablets stored in the folded stove. Hope to see more from you, sir.
Vote Counted! #47 I used the Solo Stove in the last bug out challenge I did (lasted a week) and I can’t say enough how awesome it was.. Glad to hear you carry a stove pre loaded up as well. Thanks for watching 👊🏻
JJ, you are the best. We are so thrilled you are enjoying the PNWBUSHCRAFT groundcloth hammock chair. We appreciate that your shared it with your community. I also vote for you guys Glamping!!!!
It’s easy to share gear like y’all’s that is that awesome- I LOVE IT!!! Vote counted! #24
No snide remarks just a big thankyou for this. As a full time overlander I'm looking forward to building a Togo bag. Your insight and experience really shows!
😂 We appreciate all the comments and I’m glad you got something out of this video 👊🏻
Nice
Just me- I always have a supply of known pure water
ready to drink. I might not find a viable source to filter/purify
easily accessible, and I might need that water RIGHT NOW.
Also, good to see you have a
length of cordage ready to use,
and not all knotted and woven into some neato accessory.
Like your main water supply, if
it's not ready to use right now,
it might as well be at home or in the truck.
Thanks for the video
Absolutely! I do carry the Grayl full and sourcing water can prove difficult at times.. In my case I had to drop some weight and that was one major advantage.. Thanks for watching 👊🏻
Another great minimalist carry, quite similar to ours. It would be an excellent vid if you & JS teamed up to do a bug out scenerio but not travelling together. Both of you start at a different designated starting point and meet up at an agreed bug out location. Australia will be watching.! Cheers JJ.!
I Honey Smack Dig this idea!!! 👊🏻🔥👊🏻
Yes 👍
Yes to the “Glamping Adventure” or for the Back Pack adventure film?
@@FueltheFires glamping adventure
Enjoyed your expert commentary! In addition, I would definitely add a 3-liter Camelbak, a Sawyer filter and water purification tablets along with an IFAK, Space blanket, small handsaw, and a 9mm pistol.
Thank you for the kind words- grateful.. In the EDC video I present solutions for some of the items you presented there 👍🏻
Great video also brother. As a big guy with a bad back I feel your pain. 27 years of elevator work and living a country boy life style as we call it. It has taken a tole on my body.
Thank you! I can appreciate the corn-fed life and what it does to a man’s body.. Thanks for watching and supporting the channel 👊🏻
I just got a small backpack so I had to downsize and lighten my load. The older I get the less I can carry. I voted yes for glamping trip.
This is my first time seeing you but I love your kit, man. Jason is easily one of my favorite people on the internet and I look forward to seeing you on here again.
Awesome! I agree.. Jason and I are good friends and I appreciate the positive feedback- thank you!
Also my first time seeing him;, I wish he'd have gotten to the point of the video without a 5 minute preamble irrelevant to the topic at hand.
I would take away the handheld flashlight & go with a headlamp for sure. I never go anywhere without one.
In the second video I show how to use the handheld like a headlamp.. An actual headlamp is a great idea though!
Gummy bears…yes. I love the cliff bars too. Great items in your kit.
I was surprised by how many positive responses I’ve gotten from the gummy bears 😂.. Thanks for watching 🔥
Having something ready to eat
that doesn't require cooking and
can be eaten while on the move
is essential IMO
The Clif bars are an excellent choice
IMO. I've tried other similar energy bars that are readily available in my area, and they don't make the cut
Yes, please do something with Jason...he's amazing! You two will be awesome together!
Vote counted! #20.. Thank you- we have a blast when we get together for sure.. You will definitely see us together in upcoming videos 👊🏻
👍 Definitely want to see you and Jason do a glamping video.
We’re gonna make this happen 👍🏻
Love the kit - mine is very similar. I like having a couple of large trash bags as well. Good stuff!
You and Jason should 100% do a team up 🔥🔥🔥
Do it!

YES ,It would be nice to you guys do that, Maybe some of us could learn something
Vote counted! #45
Count me as another vote for you and Jason glamping - it should be a hoot! I would bring my Keith Titanium canteen and nesting cup, as I live in the desert currently, and water is scarce. So that would go in one of the side pockets, or in a canteen shoulder bagI would also add one of my reflective bivvies, the kind made of the tyvek-like material. As a woman I sleep a bit colder than most men, and the reflective bivy really helps. One brand even makes them with bug nets and waterproof zips (they have big, long roomy size ones too for big guys). You may not need the bivy with a bug net if you have the snugpak jungle bag and bug net, but if I had my Helikon-Tex Swagman Roll I would definitely want the bug net reflective bivy. A saw (Silky pocketboy unless I had my leatherman P4 or something else with a saw) and a roll of bank line. I might also add a 55 gallon 6 mil bag for a browse bed, but I guess you could use the ground cloth for a browse bed.
I'm glad that you mentioned the PNWBushcraft ground cloth. I saw it in your EDC video and thought it was the PNWBushcraft ground cloth, but I wasn't sure because I don't actually have one yet. So I'm glad that you mentioned it here. I love waxed canvas! So you are a fan of the Tarahumara pack, as is Jason. I have been eyeing it up, but wasn't sure if it would be big enough for what I need to carry.
Roger that! Yes, I love my Tarahumara- it fits wayyy more than it looks like it will.. The PNW Bushcraft ground cloth is easily my new most favorite piece of kit- so versatile! Those are some great suggestions you made and we really appreciate your input 👊🏻🔥👊🏻
Excellent video, great advice as always.
Really like the Snugpack Jungle Bag. It’s just the ticket here in south Texas.
I carry the Emberlit FireAnt stove, because it packs small and works well with twigs, solid fuel, or in combination with an alcohol stove.
I vote yes! I’d love to see you make a video using this kit to get home.
Cool 😎
Vote for an adventure with Jason. Speading gear to multiple bags helps with weight. Chest bag with food so you don't have take main bag off to eat on the go. Have military surplus fanny bag with tarp in it so can quickly set shelter.
Vote counted! #33 ..Spreading the resources out like that is PERFECT- great tips 👊🏻
Best channel on UA-cam no cap
Thank you! 👊🏻🔥👊🏻
Right sir
I would like to see the 2 man weekend trip.
Copy that- we are working on making that happen 🔥
Ok you got my vote do it
Informative and beneficial video!👍
Thank you!
Would love to see another adventure video. And a video of you and Jason

Yes. An adventure video with Jason would be most excellent. I must have missed some strike anywhere matches and some man made tinder. Overall, a good video. Thank you for your time and your expertise.
Vote counted! #12.. All of the items you mentioned are part of my EDC- thanks for watching 🔥
Yes✅
You’re my new favorite guy on SD! I’d like to hear more about your military service. I’d also like to thank you for it, so thank you! Do you have a personal channel?
Thank you! I was not active military- I was on a special operations government funded paramilitary team.. I was a SAR-1 with FEMA, DHS and NASAR.. Thank you so much for the kind words 👊🏻

I would love to see a video with you and Jason. I really enjoyed your last video and would like more like that, with you showing what you are carrying. Stay safe!
Vote counted! #49 Thank you for the positive feedback! It takes a lot to make those style videos and I’m grateful you appreciate it - Roger Wilco 👊🏻🔥👊🏻
Putting in a vote! Yes!
For the “Glamping video” or the “gear use video”?
@@FueltheFires Gear Use. But if it’s an option, I’ll go with ‘all of the above’. 😂
The next video will be a “gear use” video for sure! Because you responded “yes” to both- YOU ARE THE 50th VOTE!!! 🔥🔥🔥
Yep, it’s so easy to over pack by overthinking the “what if’s”. I forced myself downsized to a 20L pack/ 17lb load. It wasn’t easy but it’s the right thing
Solid thinking right there 👊🏻
Ankle hogh pantyhose.
Prefilter water.
Reduced friction on long hikes when worn as liner under your socks.
Small badic repair kit.
At least one heavy duty needme and dental floss.
Waxed dental floss reduced friction in heavy material.
I use a leatherman needle nose pliers when sewing through canvas, like repairing heavy duty back oacks.
Roger that- I have a heavy duty needle and technora cord in my Wazoo Cache belt that comes in the 23 piece adventure kit.. The S.O.G. has the same point on the jaws like the leather man you mentioned.. As far as the liner for your socks- yes, they work very well.. Thanks for the response 👊🏻
Make it happen!

You and Jason is a go for me. I may have missed it how with your skill set would you rate the time set. Thank You JJ, Be well, be safe, be happy. Regards
Thanks! I will show a video very soon if the gear in use 👍🏻.. You will also see Jason and I in videos together as well 👊🏻🔥👊🏻
11:36...YEPPERS !!!
I have learned and continue to practice MANY old ways skills...even make medieval armor the old ways... Then I figure out how to apply modern ways, when there is an improvement to be had/made.
Thank you! 👊🏻🔥👊🏻
Rock on 🤘🏻
One of the best videos yet to challenge thinking
#humbled! I really appreciate that- thank you! I really want to inspire critical thinking with the audience and am grateful for the comment 👊🏻🔥👊🏻
Fuel the fires! Love it! Love the kit, adding or subtracting is skill relevant 🤔. And bringing comforts just need to be weighed with the ability to recreation in the field vs need/wants.
You’re absolutely right! I really appreciate the positive feedback and thanks for the support 💪🏻
Plus 1 for the bougie glamp-spedition!
Vote counted! #34 ..and I love the way you worded that 😂
Definitely love to see another adventure! Game on!!
I can make it happen 👊🏻
you earned my subscription 😎
Thank you and welcome to the Tribe 🔥🔥🔥
The only two items I’d add is a Silkie pocket boy saw. And a small trowl. I typically carry a little more medical but where I live there’s a lot of chores outdoors that can be remedied with the pocket saw. And you already know what the trowl is for
Absolutely! I have an Opinel pocket saw in my EDC and absolutely love it!
Nicely rounded bug bag. I would add triple antibiotic ouement, gorilla glue for cuts, 200mg caffeine pills, 91%rubbing alcohol liquid or wipes and fly tape .
Thank you! Yes, I have the majority of those items in my EDC.. Thanks for watching AND commenting 👊🏻
Solid vote on the “glamping” video 🔥🤘🏻🔥

I would like to see a list compiled of the names of all the stuff in your pack and where to buy them. That would be great. Thanks. Great video.
Ok- I will look into doing that and we appreciate you watching 🔥

Glamping will certainly be a video in the future- the people have spoken 😂

Have other brands but the same kit. Best advice is to try and take "all" the gear you wish you could bring for a weekend. You learn fast if its too heavy and if youre ealisticly gonna need it. Just overload
Rock on 🤘🏻 You know what’s up! 👊🏻
VOTE. LOVE THE IDEA

Great video!!
Knowledge = less weight to carry. Ounces = pounds and pounds equals pain. My pack weighs around 15 pounds.
Great chain of thinking! As long as I can meet all my priorities of survival, that’s my goal 👍🏻
Make Jason Glamp please
Do it.
I would LOVE to see that!!!! I'm talking cast iron pans and French coffee presses!!!!! YES!!!!!!!!!!
Vote counted! #16 Those are great suggestions too 😂
great video!!!
Thank you!!! 👊🏻🔥👊🏻
Thank you!!
👍 yes climbing gear complete is heavy. A old cave explorer. Love your work thank you
Thank you for the testimonial on that- and I really appreciate the positive feedback 👊🏻🔥👊🏻
@@FueltheFiresour welcome 🤗 Remember the searching rescue / Caving backpacks 1000D and up and heavy steel Buckles. Not comfortable but needed for the job. I like the "on rope one " Rescue pack for Durability not for comfort. I am glad you recovered from the injury 🙏🙏 I am 60+ and keep working hard to stay active. Never give up the Human body can do more Then you think. Miracles happen large and small I say that from a accident being Quadriplegic for 7 years to exploring the Amazon for years it was hard work but worth it. God bless you and yours !
Awesome testimony and thanks for the pep talk there.. Roger Wilco! Working at it everyday and I appreciate you 👊🏻🔥👊🏻
Absolutely need to see the glamping video. Great content!
Vote counted! #13 Thanks for the positive feedback 👊🏻
I’m disabled so I have to make sure that I can physically move my bug out gear around. So I bought a wagon. I can still take what I need and move it around as well. I still need to fight the temptation to overpack.
I think your gear could use a cutting tool such as a knife or a sharpened shovel. Even just an axe head would suffice.
I don’t think JJ has ever been seen without a knife in his pocket or strapped to his hip.
I absolutely have those items as part of my EDC and I commend you for finding a work around to stay prepared- good job 👊🏻
Good video high quality kit. Plus he had a Leatherman wave with him. Gear quality matters like the water bottle setup.
Yes 1 vote would like to see
Is that a vote for “Glamping” or “Gear Use?”
There is no one setup that will cover everything. So maybe have baseline kit with extra modules in labeled dry bags. If you just need to go to escape a natural disaster have a module with civvy clothes, light weight food and money. If there is civil unrest more weapons and ammo. If you got to head to the hills because of something bad and unnatural hitting your area then you need a long term module.
Couldn’t agree more and we will cover these exact recommendations in upcoming videos for the series- excellent tips and thanks for watching 👊🏻
Definitely want to you and Jason and Jason all together glancing! LOL!
Vote counted! #25
I'd also add the minor extra weight and carry a pocket rocket stove and cannister. In a bugout situation, you may not have the luxury of dry material or the type to build a fire to utilize a wood burner. With a rockest stove you have boiling water or food (if you're carrying real food and not a snack) in 3 minutes. There's really not enough crossover between disciplines. As a hunter, backpacker, and quasi-prepper, everything I buy serves multiple purposes. I can't count the number of times people have complained about the quality or whatever of certain backpacking gear because they only buy from companies targeting backpackers, then I can point them to hunting gear that is actually better and makes little to no difference in weight. The same works in reverse. Do research into long distance backpacking and you'll find other items that would be great for a bugout bag that you'll never see on these channels.
This is great perspective and thanks for posting this 👊🏻
Definitely do a video with Jason 😃, and yes do a gear test video, keep up the great work and looking forward to the rest of the series 🤙🤙🤙
Vote counted! #46 .. Roger Wilco- next video will be the gear use video 👍🏻 Thanks for watching and I appreciate the support 👊🏻
I keep a solo stove in my bugout bag. It's lighter than a titanium camp stove with a standard can of fuel and it will lasts alot longer. Great video.
Thank you for the feedback and for watching the video 🔥
Love you guys keep up the good no Great videos God Bless you and the USA

I like the Streamlight flashlights as well for my EDC. I carry the Protac 2AAA. I found a peptobismul travel size stripped of the covering friction fits great to act as a red lens. I keep some hair ties in it for strapping it to my hand and enough room left for a small hank of #12 bank line for general purpose or dummy cordage. Great vids, thanks!
I am a big believer in Streamlight- they have always worked very well for me, especially with my weapons lights.. Those are great tips you included as well! Thanks for watching AND commenting 👊🏻🔥👊🏻
And here is another vote for do it.
Vote counted! #36
Know all to well about taking a hit to the ego because of injury. I'm currently rehabbing an ankle with 75% bone still intact. I use to be able to carry mine and both boys(5 & 3 yo) if needed or even another adult for miles if necessary. Currently I can't walk a mile, or up and down stairs without pain without any gear. I believe if absolutely need be I got one last hard push in me right now but would be my death march probably. That leaves a man feeling low. Focused on rehab as quickly as possible. Then I'll have to find my new limits.
I wish you the best in this situation- I know how hard it is emotionally and physically.. Godspeed 🙏🏻
Been there twice. Take your time and do what you can without taking the risk of further injury. Most of times, it's better to go lighter but to not stop moving at all. Your body can then adapt and rebuild and by moving it generally heals faster. I'm not a doctor but I can tell you that stuff from my personal experience. Godspeed.
👊🏻🔥👊🏻
Lol sometimes it's really fun going camping for a night or 2 but being able to bring everything plus the kitchen sink lol.... we've always called it car camping... but i still enjoy the light weight backpacking deep in the woods with minimal stuff to!!!! Its both alot of fun!!!!!! Hopefully you guys can make that happen that would make a great video!!! Its nice to splurge every once in a while!!!!!god bless
