The reason that silcock key is made the way it is it's because those things are recessed to prevent people of using pliers or vise grips from turning them on.

Carry a pair of fence pliers, you have a combination heavy duty wire cutter, a pry bar and hammer, and they usually have insulated handles. There are multi tools that have a vice grip pliers instead of needle nose.

Interesting to see your choices of gear to bug out of an urban area. By choice I’ve lived in a rural area at one time in Wyoming and now in Idaho for 30 years plus so my perspective is a little different.Nothing but a forest fire could get me to budge from here. Our fire season is usually August and September so my bugout is a full size 4 x 4 truck pulling a fully stocked camping trailer (always have it hooked up during fire season) and my wife will be driving a Jeep Wrangler pulling a small enclosed cargo trailer with as much stuff as we have time to load. As always, hope for the best but be prepared for the worst. 🤔

Cheers for the updates mate. We all have draw string bag in our customised daypacks. The Exo is bit high end for us & not exactly grayman look but it is an excellent backpack when you're hitting The Druids. All your minimalistic makes sense, as dad would say "make the best with what you got". We have first aid & modded multitool in our packs. We know all the water resources between school & home including public restrooms & aquarium shops & fountains. When closer to home we know where all the streams & creeks and depending on seasons how much water will be avalable. Glad you show the umbrella. We have umbrellas in our daily carry, as you point out, it's a great shelter from rain & also sun. Plus the material from an umbrella can be turn & use for almost anything imaginable in survival. A quote from our mentor, the legendary Mors Kochanski " The more you know, the less you carry". Thank you Mr. Salyer. Looking forward to your accepted challenge. Greetings from Australia. Rylie. A few points. 1. Fixed blade knife is a must have, many are easily concealed as long as you're not moving through a metal detector. 2. Gas mask doesn't need an opening for water, you're going to want to get out of the " hot zone ", and even the attach point is subject to contamination. 3. If you can carry an umbrella, you can carry a lightweight tarp. 4. There's no advantage to having a cheap, clear daypack. There are many low pro daypacks that will actually be useful. Do better.
On a side note, we live in a sad time when a simple description of a firearm is avoided to appease the snivelers at YT.

maybe in my thinking he used the shark pack as an example (not what to buy) say one at wally world or staples or target. as you said one that "you" would want to use. some may buy a black one (a pink one) yes i see people buy pink ones (talk about gray man) you can see them 100 miles out but some may think, who would wear pink, must not have anything or use. me both umbrella and tarp, walking in the rain with an umbrella keeps you dry quite well. (you could wrap the tarp around you and keep dry that way. (both rain suit/jacket and umbrella. just my thoughts you bring up some good points.

we have different "sillcock keys" here in europe, but most are made to use hex bits on them too, and you can also use them to open garbage bins and some of industrial buildings and sites. Talking about ponchos; i was stopped and question by cops because of me, wearing old Soviet era poncho during heavy downpour in our little town hehe. still use it, its cops that dont react to it anymore LOL . nice setup, good to see that someone still use classic pliers for heavy duty work. i keep small bolt cutters in my bag, wave on me most of the time (when away from home toolbox) but keep nearly 50 years old combination pliers that have notch to cut steel wire up to 3mm2 diameter close by at all time. nice addition with drawstring bag, i've made custom, molle compatible bag, that can bee connected to belt, bag, backpack...mag drop pouches are great way to expand storage when needed.

One subject no one ever talks about in their videos is a situation that forces you out of not only your home, but out of the town/city you live in, and makes your return just not possible thus forcing you into a long term wilderness survival scenario. Planning for something like that might not be easy, but it very well could prove beneficial for you in the long term.

It's discussed on many channels, hence the use of the term ''INCH bag'' where INCH stands for ''I'm never coming home''. However this subject is polarising. Many say that if you do such a thing you're just a glorified refugee, and that for 90% of people this is unsustainable in the long term. The 10% that can do it are those who already live in remote areas and hunt and fish for their daily food.

using the fan feels okay for that few.. but you're actually expending more energy and can make yourself hotter than if you accept that it's hot and acclimate to it. you can also use passive cooling like a wet bandana (the cooler the liquid the better) wrapped around neck or draped over head. sounds counter-intuitive at first but the less calories you expend the better.
and of course there is the old stand-by of having an ice cold adult beverage ready to go.

Also i am a senior disabled Desert Storm Veteran. My dad when he paseed at 83 had maxpedition organizers lined in the under bag of his walker. He had everything for water, shelter, fire, cordage. Most people dont think of this if they have disabled people in their groups.

Many homeless people travel carrying all these items every day and blend into the background seamlessly because you are used to seeing homeless people carrying a bunch of crap in an urban environment.
Let’s not forget about that. Carrying camo in the city is like wearing a Forrest Gilly suit in a parking garage, trying to hide, in an urban setting, a garbage pile of gillie suit in an urban environment would be a much more effective means of staying “grey”…

My thought on all this is that as individuals we all have to decide if we want to carry a good-sized kid. Now my Approach is to begin with some kind of waist pack or Fanny Pack or maybe a thermite from Maxpedition that rides on your thigh. Some people like to use pouches that attach to a belt. I think these are all great ideas because even though you may be wearing a small bag you can easily enter and exit vehicles and you can carry more than what you could carry if you were wearing cargo pants. I wear cargo pants all the time but it's uncomfortable to weigh them down plus you have to take the stuff out of the pants when you're going to wash them and you have to remember to put all the stuff back into the pockets. The supplement what I have I can grab a shoulder bag and then I can pack a pistol and some magazines and extra ammo and a first-aid kit and even some food and one or two water bottles. If I know that I have to evacuate and maybe live outside for an unknown amount of time then I would grab my large backpack and I would get my larger blades and tools.

I keep a long gun and soft body armor in my truck all the time. I have an F-350, there is a lockable compartment under the rear seat, I also keep it locked with a bicycle chain. I believe a long gun is invaluable in a get home situation, especially where in am. I’m in Miami in an upper middle class gated community but if I’m in the beach and something happens, I would have to traverse about 10-15 miles of pure ghetto, some of the worse neighborhoods in America. If your white, in those neighborhoods, you ain’t going to be a “ GREY MAN “ you’ll be shooting it out with the savages that live there to get home.
I’m not saying anything derogatory about anyone, what I’m saying is factual and reality. If your trying to get home with your wife and you have to traverse that neighborhood, you’ll be in shootouts to keep from getting killed and your wife from getting raped. If I wanted to go around, I would probably have to walk about 60 miles to get to my house.

I added a titanium pry bar to my set, 650 mm. long. It's about 40% lighter than a steel one and acts as a skeleton key of sorts: worst thing is to get blocked somewhere when time is of the essence. It will break open most hanging locks and doors, no problem.
Also doubles as a blunt weapon. Due to it's length, reduced weight, it gives for a faster, "whippier" swing so it should be adequate against knives, which will be the most common weapon for most opportunists in a crisis. A hit to the head will most likely crack the skull or cause a severe concussion. A hit to any extremity - a broken bone. No good if you're surrounded though, so it's by no means The Flaming Sword of Eternity or something, just something to whack the stray idiot that doesn't know any better. No good in having a bug out bag if it can be taken from you by some random chump.
Also, if there's some leak, toxic smoke or else, the canister that size is probably good for what, 30-45 minutes (depending on the intensity of the hazard)? So that doesn't give you much time to get away. One locked door can reduce that time by half or even make it impossible.
There's this story about a Chinese woman who got stuck in an elevator somewhere around New Year's eve. Couldn't get out and just..died. Can't remember if she was mute, too - I guess that would make sense. Anyway, my point is - you can't run if you get stuck, and a pair of pliers and a nut wrench can only get you so far.

From a global perspective it is really interesting to constantly hear Americans talk about their fear of their neighbours and community.

@@eliot1970 You don't remember people fighting over toilet paper and bottled water two and a half years ago? Or that widescreen TV on Black friday? Man, during the Yugoslavian crisis people had to mask the smell when they were cooking food because hunger-crazed people would hunt them down, tear down the doors and steal take it from them.
In Leningrad during WW2 there were cases of cannibalism - some sociopaths teamed up and hunted down people for meat. Others ate their pets. There were even large packs of rats that attacked people, pinned them down with their collective weight and ate them alive.
Are you kidding? If your neighbor's child will be dying of hunger, he will crack your skull open without thinking - or you really think he'd sit on his hands and watch his beloved child croak because of his neighborly love for you?
There was an episode in Josephus Flavius, Judean Wars, if I recall correctly. When the Romans, after a very lengthy siege, finally entered the city (it's either the siege of Jerusalem or some city adjescent to the Galilee sea, the name eludes me), in one of the houses they came across a crazed woman with a half-eaten child in her hands, all covered in blood. Immediately they ended her suffering. You can read the accounts. Nothing changed since those days. Not even the way we think, really.
Food supplies in any major city are 3 months tops. Then it's Mad Max. The hippie liberals will be stripped down first. Then the do-gooders. Then the ordinary "I don't need no gun, the police will protect me" folk. You'll see vegans eating cats and nuns giving it up for a can of tuna. And the only people who will retain any decency are people with actual skills, like your mechanic or repairman, people with resources and discretion, people who are willing to kill and steal, and people with guns.

I hate your "shark pack" because everyone else can see what is in it too. I agree that there are times when you do want to be a "gray man", but I would go with a solid color pack, not a clear one. It is no one else's business what is inside your pack.

I really disagree with having cash on you. Firstly, if there is a shtf moment nobody is staying at work. Secondly, lawlessness would be on the rise and cash may make you a target. I wouldn't bank on cash working either way and would never trade gas or anything else for a piece of paper.

@thadgomez5963 ... as said, get a full facepiece mask and either wear with your existing glasses (that degrades your seal quality) ... OR ... get a set of prescription Mask Inserts and just install them into your mask and be done with it.
We sort of went in the middle with Ranger Band glasses, you can wear them with or without your mask... and they'll never fall off.
